201 | once saved always saved? | 2 Tim 4:18 | Glory Bound | 128836
Personally I have always leaned against believing once saved always saved, yet I can provide just as many scriptural passages for "once saved, always saved" as I can against it. My determination concerning the thought is that it is a dangerous belief, thus through the Grace of God I am going to do my best to live as His word tells me I should, and when such questions as yours arise, I will lean on Proverbs 3:5 "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil." GB |

I give up! As I noted in an earlier post, I am familiar with the antics of many who use these boards. Your antics are obvious and I have no desire for farther debate. Open your bible. Read it with an open mind and closed mouth, for it will be of no benifit for you to yack at it either. Then read it again. Discussion ended. GB |

Gen 15:6 And he had faith in the Lord, and it was put to his account as righteousness. But did righteousness provide salvation? Has it ever? I don’t think so. Why did the Lord require sacrifices in OT times? I still contend that, in a more literal sense, OT salvation depended on “living right, sacrificing and obeying the word of God.” Likewise today, we are told to live as Jesus did. To do so we must make some sort of sacrifices on a daily basis, whether it be avoiding an argument even when we know we are right, committing some act of kindness at our own expense, or what. Back then, they simply had to believe Gods Word and live it. Today one simply has to believe in the Son He sent to pay our sin debt, confess our sins, repent and accept His gift. The rest will come with spiritual growth. GB |

Did I say "that there was no grace or forgiveness in the OT?" Please provide some scriptural references concerning someone in the OT who was saved "by grace, through faith.” ie Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Noah found Grace in the eyes of the Lord. Abraham, Moses, David, Isaiah and many others did the same. By the way, Abraham was the father of faith. What other commands of the Lord did they follow? What was the role of the law in OT times? If you are looking to man for an "absolute" answer, you are looking in the wrong place. Get into the word. It will get into you... This is a promise. GB |

207 | Proverbs 3:5-6 ; in a relationship | Prov 3:5 | Glory Bound | 128758
Some trust in science. Many trust in their own abilities. Some would have you believe that they must understand what scripture says before they can accept the truth thereof. The truth is that if this were true, they most assuredly would not be using a computer, telephone, or even a light bulb. They are fooling only themselves. When I simply do not understand something, Proverbs 3:5-7 is my rock. Inevitably, if it is important, the Holy Spirit reveals it. Sometimes it is years before I get the answer that I thought I needed so much. One show of faith is in a Christian’s adherence to Pro 3:5. God Bless GB |

208 | Were angels created on day 2 or 3? | Prov 3:5 | Glory Bound | 128752
Dear soul, you may wish to turn to the following passage for your answer to this question, for there is no other answer that is scriptural. Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: Proverbs 3:5-7 In Christ and His word GB |

Chesed, I am sorry that you misread or misunderstood my statement, for I did not state any "conditions for salvation." I was answering the second part of the original question which, if you "read" it, has nothing to do with anyone after the Savior. What I stated was as follows. "As to how people were saved prior to Jesus' sacrifice; I have done no in depth study on the matter, but from what I have read in scripture, it boiled down to living right, sacrificing and obeying the word of God. Isn't that what it is all about in the first place, obeying the word? Jesus was and is the word." If one obeys the word, they will believe in Jesus. Concerning Grace, you are confusing New Testament doctrine with Old Testament times. Scripture states that we are “saved by Grace through faith.” This statement was made “after Christ made His sacrifice and has nothing to do with the salvation of those prior to Jesus. If you can provide scripture to support your statement, which as I read it, and I paraphrase, says that even those before Christ were “saved by Grace through faith,” I would be glad to debate this matter. Otherwise, if you have no scriptural foundation for your statement, it is simple conjecture. I have no desire to debate conjecture, for you are entitled to your opinion. I prefer scriptural fact. If one reads the Old Testament accounts, the facts concerning this matter should be evident. Please be aware Chesed; though I have been here before, I am relatively new to this board and its current members. I know some, but there are considerably more, including yourself which I do not know. I am a fairly learned student of scripture, and I am very familiar with the antics of many which wish to engage in its debate. I am not saying that you are doing this, but when they were plainly stated, and a reader misquotes my words, I tend to wonder if the reader is intentionally trying to twist my words into something I did not say. Once I realize someone is attempting to twist my words, this someone looses all credibility with me and I loose all desire to debate with this person. In Christ and His truth GB |

Though some will surely profess otherwise, the truth of the matter is that there were NO Christians before Jesus. The word "khris-tee-an-os'", or as translated from the Greek, “Christian,” means follower of Christ. Before Christ, there were no "followers of Christ." According to the book of Acts, the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch. In scripture, this is the first mention of the pronoun, Christian. The only 3 occurrances are in Act_11:26; Act_26:28; and 1Pe_4:16; As to how people were saved prior to Jesus' sacrifice; I have done no in depth study on the matter, but from what I have read in scripture, it boiled down to living right, sacrificing and obeying the word of God. Isn't that what it is all about in the first place, obeying the word? Jesus was and is the word. GB |
