201 | Can a woman divorce man: Ongoing porn? | Matthew | justme | 212566
Bandaid: No one can tell you what to do, and with such little information about specfically how long this has gone on, only the people involved know what is best. Jesus also said to look at a woman with lust in your heart is adultery. All sins begin in our minds or some would say the heart. Jesus also said that hardness of the heart is the cause of divorce. Either party in a marriage can seek a divorce when immorality is present. Divorce is not a requirement, it is an option, one which should be prayed over and there just is no other way. An excllent Christian film out is FIREPROOF, which is still in shows and available on DVD latter this month. I would encourage you to see it. There are many Christians who thought circumstances were beyond any hope for their marriage, and God completely healed the marriage when humanly ther was no hope. I encourage your to get help from your pastor, or a Christian Counselor. Never forget that God loves you and is always there with us. justme |

202 | ONE FLESH MEANS? PUT AWAY MEANS? | Malachi | justme | 212404
This is a good question that not many ask. To put away was to send a wife away with no certificate of divorce. This ment a husband could recall his wife whenever he wanted. Often the Woman would marry another and even have children, which the husband could say your mine, too bad for the man you call your husband. In Malachi the Lord said I hate putting away. Some have mistakenly called this divorce, but ut is directly responding to the word put away. To divorce was to give a certificate of divorce, which gave the woman the right to remarry. Jesus said that divorce is due to hardness of heart. That is always at the core of any divorce, and people act out hardness of heart in many ways that are sinful. Hope this helps. justme |

203 | Why do I want to speak in tongues? | 1 Cor 13:1 | justme | 212337
catmandel: Welcome to the Study Bible Forum. I like the way you are carefully thinking about the speaking in tongues. "I am still confused." The Lord is not the author of confusion, and that you can be very sure of. Those who are saying you need to speak in tongues to prove you are saved are very much mistaken, and it's not Biblical at all. Toungues are listed as a gift, and if it is active today, does asking for something to prove you are saved have any Scriptual basis? Demanding someone to prove their salvation by demonstration of any gift is totally twisting Scripture. I have never heard of anyone asking for the gift of helps, or giving, and these gifts are important for the body of Christ. I think if you got a statement of belief from this church you just might see some other things that make you confused as well. If you have surrendered to Jesus Christ then you are saved by faith. To add anything additional requirements is wrong. You will want to follow Christ in baptism to show your obedience and desire to follow Jesus Christ as Lord of your life. Those people who say you must speak in tongues have been pressured into speaking jibberish just to prove they are saved, and that is a false teaching. Beware catmandel, this is very wrong. Get to a Bible believing church asap. Blessings. justme |

204 | Is NASB better than other translations? | 2 Tim 2:15 | justme | 211992
svickers2: Welcome to the Study Bible Fourn! The KJV was translated form the best manuscrips they had at the time, and those who translated the KJV had a Roman Catholic background. There are some verses that reflect the bias of Rome. The KJV is NOT the best translation NOW. The NASB used older manuscrips that were not available at the time of 1611. The wording of the KJV is beautiful, and will always be the Bible of choive for many. The NASB is as many scholars say the most accurate word for word translation today. At times the wording seems wordy, and required some thought. I personally like Psalm 139 in the NASB as the intimate words are so sweet. That being said, I like the NIV a hair more. The NIV is rendered thought for thought and sometimes that convays the message better for me. I find in the mid west the NIV and the NKJV seem toi be the majority of what is used by the pastors in preaching. The Bible sales also seem to back this up in this area of the USA as well. I personally think the best bible is the one you enjoy and will read. The Bible is the worlds best selling book that is read the least. So, I hope this also helps. justme |

205 | Demon posession or Personality disorder? | Mark 5:15 | justme | 211898
bandaid: Perhaps, we have become so educated that we have lost the belief in demons? We all have heard about Jeffery Dalhmar and his eating human flesh, and the many people he killed. This was in my opinion, a man who was demon possesed. Charles Manson is also a person I would say is demon possesed. These men are at the top of my example list of demon possesion. I believe that when Jesus healed those whom He said had demons, these people had more than medications could ever do for them. When Jesus cast out demonds there was clear evidence demons were present and active in the persons life. I think filth was involved in such demon possesed lives. I have never have been involved with anyone who said they were possesed by demons before they got saved. The stories I have heard about have been few, but as I recall they happened in South America, and places wwhere witchcraft and spiritualism were taken place. There are medical conditions that do cause people to act in very strange ways. For example Alzheimers Disease, can bring out words and actions that are opposite of the way the people once lived and believed. This disease is dreadful, and is not demon possesion. We do know that much about the brain and how disease can alter the thinking and actions of genuinely ill people. There are those who are quick to label all bad actions as personality disorders, that covers sin fairly easy. In my opinion drunkeness is a sin that makes a person dependant upon drinking even more, the result is a disease, but sin is at the core of the problem. Such are the case with many mental problems. This same Jesus who healed people long ago, still heals today. Jesus uses Doctors, Pastors, and other Christians to help heal today. To be honest prayer and the work of the Holy Spirit, should guide those who are trained to know the difference in real mental illness and sin, or genuine disorders. The key is prayer and wisdom. Many in the field of psychology are not Christians, and even some who are Christians, have adopted humanistic psychology, which keeps the person locked into a never endind cycle of never getting to the real solution which is surrendering to Christ and becoming a genuine follower. I hope this helps. justme |

207 | i want my family back | Bible general Archive 4 | justme | 211493
Russsh: I fully can and do feel the pain you discribe. I can not tell you how to bring your family back. I can tell you to continue to pray for each family member by name on a regular basis. I find that in reality there is no way to control other family members. Be a blessing to those who are with you at the time. My wife are now the oldest and grandparents. We are now as our parents where 25 years ago. Our parents have all passed on too. We both miss them, and wish we had asked more questions about them when they were alive. Unless the Lord returns our children will also feel some sadness as well. Being anchored to this body, the older I get I see the letting go won't be near as hard as I thought it would be when I was younger. Pray for peace and contentment, and remebr your family often in prayer. I hope this helps in some way. justme |

208 | Accept , Reject ? | NT general | justme | 211492
Newwine: Your profile is interesting to read. I wish others would follow your example and tell us something about themselves as you have done so well. This may seem trifle, but we don't "accept" Christ. We must surrender to Christ. To surrender to the calling of the Holy Spirit who convicts us of our sinfullness and our need to surrender to the Love, Mercy, Grace of Gods love and pardon by His one and only Son Jesus Christ. Most misunderstood is the fact Jesus accepts us just as we are. The two phrases I fell do wrong in an invitation aor "ask Jesus into your heart" and "to accept Jesus" inreality the idea is there but the words are not well chosen at all. Now, for free will. If mankind does not have free will to surrender or free will to reject the pleads of the Holy Spirit, then missionaries are a waste of time. Unless a person takes a verse out of context, you can't find a verse that says we do not have free will. Read John 3 as a total text and see if you follow what I mean. I would encourage you to reconsider what tou say in your User Info. There are some good commentaries that have come out in the last 30 years, so don't be so negative. Blessings NewWine. justme |

209 | pastor / shepherd? | John 21:17 | justme | 211285
Your statement seems to include to wide on scope of the reality I know and have experiended. Perhaps this is more of an issue in larger cities like Hong Kong, and others in the US. In the three seminaries I ahve been involved in there were very few pastors involved in teaching, as these positions were for those proffessors who were called by God to teach. May I disagree with you, but gently, that many pastors do labor and often many more hours are spent in sherherding than most have any idea. As a pastor there is no such thing as a day off, or a night you can go to sleep knowing you won't be awakened by one of the sheep needing you. Every denomination, and church has it's own criteria for ordination. I was orignally ordained by a Souther baptist church wher I first became pastor. When I became an Americian Baptist church pastor I had to go into a very involved period of writing papers on my theology od many areas, and a formal review by several ministers and the Area Minister. These meetings lasted not quite a year. Then my ordination was recognized. In a Conservative Baptist Church I served a pastor they took my ordination as it was. There is always more to the pastors job and calling then most people even think of. Don't judge so harshly, remember those who serve you as pastors in prayer and give encouragement as often as you can. Blessings. justme |

210 | Wishful praying? | John 14:13 | justme | 211200
pgs: I see that you have been with the S. B. F. from back in 2001, but you have not filled out a profile yet. Please take the time to do so, then we have a better idea as to who we are addressing, please. Now to answer your question. Jesus is not santa clause and we don't give Him our wish list. Jesus said to remain in Him. To remain in Him is to surrender to His will every day in every way. I know this is not an easy task to be in constant state of remaining in Him. We always should to be in the direct will of the Holy Father. So when we pray, even for someones life we need to pray, please put this person in your direct will. When asking the Lord for something specfic ask for whatever it is to be His direct will for your request. This leaves no doubt that we have recieved the very best from the Lord. I have been very near going home to the Lord several times with health issues. All I ever have asked of those praying for me was to be in the direct will of the Father. I was so near going home that the celebration of me going home was all ready, encluding the songs to be sung and the place to plant my body. To the amazement of several doctors and Christian friends, and my family, the Lord wanted me to remain in Him here longer. So I know what I am saying is truth, I sincerely hope this encourages you to surrender to His will. justme |

211 | BIBLE TRANSLATIONS | Bible general Archive 4 | justme | 211166
SIRHIGHSMITH: Welcome to the Study Bible Forum! Your question is one which I really like. Your interest in studying the Bible is a wonderful blessing, and you will grow. May I suggest you go to a large enough Christian Book store, and look at the Bibles first. When your order from a online store you do not really know what you got until you see it first hand. Here is a good start from me to you. What grade level do you read at? The NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION is about fourth to sith grade reading level. That's where most average people read in the United States. The NIV is a Dynamic Version which is more of a thought for thought and is very good easy to read, and is used extensively in many protestant Churches. The New American Standard Bible is about tenth grade level and is accurate for more of a word for word translation. This is a real scholarly Bible, but can seem to wander and at times a bit wordy for me. Then there is the NEW KING JAMES VERSION, which is used a good deal, Calvary Chapel churches use it most in all the churches, but it is not really impressive for me. All these Bibles come with several kinds of study helps. The NIV Study Bible is also in the NASB. The Life Application Study Bible comes in the NASB and te NIV, and I think the NKJV as well. Then there is the Message in the NIV. There are more study Bibles that you can imagie. This is why I suggest you go to a Christian Book Store and look at these Bibles your self and take your time. Ask your pastor for any ideas. It does help to have a Bible that he uses to preach from, easier to follow. I always buy a Bible in genuine leather, not bonded leather. Bonded leatheris made much like cardboard and falls appart within a year or so. I have leather Bibles in very good condition that are thirty years old. I do care for the leather with treatments and the binding has held up well on all of them. Don't hold your Bible by the binding as this does cause the binding to loosen over time. Keep Yopur Bible out of the car when you are in the heat as this makes the pages puff out. Never expose yoyr Bible to mostiure as thsi will crinkel the pages up like popcorn. I personally like Bibles made by Zondervan, and Nelson publishers. Zondervan has the best replacement policy should your Bible not ware as it should, they will replace it free. Zondervan has maybe the largest selection of Bible versions and Study Bibles. Some people do not like Zondervan as the publishing compant was bought by Harper Colins which is a company which is not a Christian company. I worked for Zondervan in the BOOK of LIFE pragram. When Zondervan was bought out our division was allowed to go where we wanted and New Standard Encyclopedia bought BOOK of LIFE. I have not seen the quality gow down except in the Todays New International Version which is unworthy of any Christains money to be spent on it. A good quality Genuine Leather Bible will run fron sixtynine to ninty US dollars. You can spend a lot more for more expensive types of leather and hand sewn bindings. I think this should give you some more helps, and take your time to find what you feel fits you. My wife thinks I collect Bibles, and I guess I do. I enjoy reading as many versions as I can and I love The Word of God! Blessings to you. justme |

213 | onced saved always saved | Hebrews | justme | 210951
dave525: This issue has been so debated to the extremes that believers have become hateful to each other in their belief in eternal security or in the possible loss of salvation. However this IS NOT about ARMINIANISM or CALVINISM. The Study Bible Forum has made this debate off limits to debate about. However, I want you to cansider some Scripture that I have found to help me come to a conclusion that neither ARMINNANISM or CALVIINISM has addressed correctly. If one should think he or she can suffer loss of eternal security then that presents a problem in the understanding of the meanings of words used in Scripture. What is "eternal life" and exactally what does the word "eternal" mean? Eternal life is NOT a lifetime of probation. When God says "eternal life" He means ETERNAL life, not probationary life. In Hebrews "eternal salvation"(5:9) "eternal redemption"(9:12) "eternal inheritance"(9:15). Now you can see the word "eternal" in almost every book in the New Testament, so what does eternal mean? In Colossians 2:13, 14 our sins have been nailed to the cross, our debt or pinnishment has been canceled out. In Romans 3:24,25 we have been redemption through His blood. The error that Christians make is in believing that Salvation only provides forgiveness for sins committed before conversion. Partial forgiveness is totally foreign to the Bible. There is no time limitations in the Biblical declarations of forgiveness. So will future sinfulness nullify a Christian's salvation? The Bible gives us eaxmples of true believers who did not continously believe and confess Jesus Christ. Peter denied Christ three times. Did Peter lose his salvation? NO the Lord Jesus Christ restored Peter to fellowship. Justification by grace through faith alone is but one reason for believing in eternal security. When we intrude our performance into the issue of our complete salvation then we change the meaning of salvation by grace alone, through faith alone by Jesus Christ alone. Here is a question to chew on and think about. How can we trust a heavenly Father whos love for us is conditioned upon our performance until the last breath of life? Is it possible to have fellowship with God if there is always uncertainty about where we really stand with Him? How can we live a stable Christian life if we constantly fear that God will disown us? In 1John 1:9,10 John makes it abundantly clear that Jesus Christ does forgive us of future sins when we confess our sins. He is faithful. When we say we have no sin we make Jesus to out to be less than God. The bottom line is God's plan of salvation is the confident assurance that we will get to be with Him in heaven with confidence. That is "eternal security" for me and all who have surrendered to Jesus Christ as Lord. Blessings, and I hope this will give you and others a chance to consider what the Bible assures us of. justme. |

214 | IF HE AINT REAL, THEN IM CRAZY | Rom 8:28 | justme | 210793
ChildofGod1988: After reading your profile, and this post I would like to share my thoughts and impressions. May I suggest you read several times over 1 Corinthains 6:9 to 7:40. With what you say in your profile, you seem to me that you are impatient and rush into hasty conclusions. I can't help but wonder if you have overcome the addiction to porn. Unless you have made yourself accountable to someone whom you know will help and hold you responsible for your growth to overcome this addiction, you are most likely still attracted to to satans best that cripples many Christian mens lives. You say you felt called into the ministry. What have you done with that call you felt? Is that call genuine or was it just a happy feeling at the time? You need to know if that was a genuine call of the Lord or just the Holy spirit calling you to walk in Holiness. Your profile says you were at the time 19 years old. Dear brother in Christ, very few love relationships at your age last very long. I encourage you to walk in the Lord and mature in Christ, overcome and rid yourself of any lingering desire for porn, or anything else that would make for a hampered marriage, and make you unequally yoked with the wife God would have for you. I hope I dont come accross like a stern old man who is down on you. I honestly have told my own son this very thing about 15 years ago when he was your age. I would like to hear back from you. So please respond to my post so I can remember you in prayer. Blesings. justme |

215 | Most accurate translation of Bible? | Bible general Archive 4 | justme | 210729
SAnsel: Welcome to the Study Bible Forum. After reading your question and the other answser by humbledbyhisgrace, I thought I would give a little added information. What Translation of the Bible is used in your Church? I find it is awkward to have a different translation than the Pastor is preaching from. Personally I have a number of translations, and after some serious looks into how the translations compare with the Hebrew and Greek with the tools I have I have some thoughts. I use the NIV STUDY BIBLE and the NASB LIFE APPLICATION BIBLE, the most of all. I do have these versions in just the translations with no study helps as well. The NIV and the NASB compliment easch other is spots that I need a better understanding. I do have the ESV and to be real honest I have just not been able to feel as close to the ESV as I do the NIV and NASB. That is not to say the ESV is not a good translation, I just have used the other two for a much longer time and really do not want to make much of a change now at this stage in life. Why not go to a Seminary book store and get some tools that you can use to help you even if you do not actually read the orignal languages there are very good help tools so you can see the words for your self. You can get the ESV, NIV, and NASB in paper back all for less than perhaps 40 or so dollars. Hope this helps. Stay in the word. Oh The old KJV is not a bad translation, but some words have changed meaning, so be kind to th eKJV it's been here for a proven length of time and loved by many. I myself am not a KJV fan at all, but still see it as a reliable Bible. justme |

216 | Can one be refused services when sinful? | Matt 16:24 | justme | 210521
SATNJ: Why would anyone involved with unrepented willful sin, which Jesus is against, want to be baptized or thake part in the Lords supper? If the pastor of these people don't bluntly give these two the Scripture and the warnings and allows these two to participate in baptism and the Lords Supper then the Pastor is as guilty as the two fornicators are. This problem is one reason our country is in such a mess. No longer stand against sex before marrage, or living together, or homosexuality. Sin is now a watered down version of a "mistake". Sounds better and is less offensive. If you are one of the two involved in this sin than make a change now before it's too late. justme |

218 | Church membership...a requirement? | Bible general Archive 4 | justme | 209383
Beingstill: Welcome to the Study Bible Forum. Most churches that have membership do require a person to be a member before a person can take any leadership role. There is accountability to one another in becoming a member and there is the responsibility of the pastor for those under his authority. The book of Acts says that 3,000 were added to the members there one time, so there was a record of those who belonged there. Even in worldly organizations like the Elks, Moose, DAV, and many more membership is required to participate, should churches expect anything less? Perhaps your pastor has allowed you to assume roles that are open just for members, and was hoping you would be ready for a commitment to the church and his leadership? It sounds to me that you all were aware of church membership, and have enjoyed the blessings of the fellowship there for at least two years. I find it rather odd that after two years you are not ready to become members, so there must be some reason for not joining the church. If saw this kind of hessitation of people who were attending for two years and who enjoyed the benefits the church had to offer, I would want to ask why they had not joined as well. I would not become angry, and I would ask what might be your reason for not joining. That seems reasonable to me. However, the pastors other remarks on the surface seem uncalled for and unbiblical. Generally speaking if someone is reluctant to join churches there is some reason. Most gererally there has been a problem somewhere in a church in the past. Joining a church is not signing a contract for life, it should be not be entered into lightly, but not so serious as to require more than Christ would ask of us. If after two years of attending this church you do not feel led to join, and after what the pastor said, I would look and seek where the Lord wanted me to become a part of. If you all just do not want a church that has membership, there are churches that do not have membership. Calvary Chapel being one, I know of. I hope this helps some, blessings. justme |

isa26: What you discribe that your sister is saying is not to be taken lightly. You need to call her psychiatrist and inform him of your sisters feelings. Perhaps, if you do not know how to make contact with the Doctor, have your sister call him with you being there for encouragement and making sure she does contact him. Please do not assume that all depression and feelings of hopelessness are of satan. There can be medical reasons for these type of feelings as well, sugar can even cause these feelings, either too much or not enough can effect the brain. As a Scripture may I suggest 1 John 4 the entire chapter, actually the complete book of 1 John would be very helpful for her. Pray for her when you are with her, that way she hears for herself that you are praying for her. If the depression is where she won't read herself read Scripture to her. I would keep a watchful eye on her, and follow up with her doctor to make sure she is getting the corrected medications she might need. One other resource that is very important is her pastor, or yours, this is very important as well. I sincerely pray for you and your sister. justme |
