202 | Did Dr Frank Logsdon work on the NASB? | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 225257
Hello kwadecook, The Lockman Foundation's Official Response to KJVO claims about Frank Logsdon Published with permission from The Lockman Foundation "The Board of Directors of The Lockman Foundation launched the NEW AMERICAN STANDARD BIBLE translation work in the late 1950's following the completion of the AMPLIFIED NEW TESTAMENT. Dr. S. Franklin Logsdon was acquainted with Dewey Lockman, president of The Lockman Foundation, prior to Mr. Lockman's death in 1974. Mr. Logsdon was never a member of the Board of Directors, nor was he an employee of The Lockman Foundation. Mr. Logsdon had no authority to hire employees or translators for the Foundation, to set policy, to vote, to hold office, to incur expenses, etc. He cannot be considered "co-founder" of the NASB, nor part of The Lockman Foundation, nor part of the NASB translation team, nor did he write the forward of the NASB. According to our records, he was present at board meetings on two occasions -- once to hear a travel report; and once to deliver an "inspirational thought." Mr. Logsdon last wrote to Mr. Lockman in fall of 1973 that he was moving to Florida. Mr. Lockman replied that he was surprised and saddened by his decision to leave the area. Mr. Lockman passed away in January of 1974, and no further correspondence was exchanged between Frank Logsdon and The Lockman Foundation. He resided in Florida until his passing some years ago. The grass withers, the flower fades; but the word of our God stands forever. Isaiah 40:8 (NASB)" The Lockman Foundation I hope this helps, BradK |

203 | John 1:1 and John 1:14; Is Jesus God? | John 1:1 | BradK | 225245
Hello Julie, Welcome to the Forum! Yes, the Jehovah's Witness deny the Trinity and the Diety of Christ- among other things. Their error is founded in Arianism, which goes back to the Council of Nicea in 325 A.D. Jesus Christ is God incarnate. Notice these verses in John: John 4:25 "The woman *said to Him, "I know that Messiah is coming (He who is called Christ); when that One comes, He will declare all things to us." John 4:26 Jesus *said to her, "I who speak to you am He." "Question: "Is Jesus God? Did Jesus ever claim to be God?" Answer: Jesus is never recorded in the Bible as saying the precise words, “I am God.” That does not mean, however, that He did not proclaim that He is God. Take for example Jesus’ words in John 10:30, “I and the Father are one.” We need only to look at the Jews’ reaction to His statement to know He was claiming to be God. They tried to stone Him for this very reason. “… you, a mere man, claim to be God” (John 10:33). The Jews understood exactly what Jesus was claiming—deity. Notice that Jesus does not deny His claim to be God. When Jesus declared, “I and the Father are one” (John 10:30), He was saying that He and the Father are of one nature and essence. John 8:58 is another example. Jesus declared, “I tell you the truth, before Abraham was born, I am!” The response of the Jews who heard this statement was to take up stones to kill Him for blasphemy, as the Mosaic Law commanded them to do (Leviticus 24:15). John reiterates the concept of Jesus’ deity: “the Word was God” and “the Word became flesh” (John 1:1, 14). These verses clearly indicate that Jesus is God in the flesh. Acts 20:28 tells us, “Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood.” Who bought the church—the church of God—with His own blood? Jesus Christ. Acts 20:28 declares that God purchased His church with His own blood. Therefore, Jesus is God! Thomas the disciple declared concerning Jesus, “My Lord and my God” (John 20:28). Jesus does not correct him. Titus 2:13 encourages us to wait for the coming of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ (see also 2 Peter 1:1). In Hebrews 1:8, the Father declares of Jesus, “But about the Son He says, ’Your throne, O God, will last forever and ever, and righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom.’” The Father refers to Jesus as “O God” indicating that Jesus is indeed God. In Revelation, an angel instructed the apostle John to only worship God (Revelation 19:10). Several times in Scripture Jesus receives worship (Matthew 2:11, 14:33, 28:9, 17; Luke 24:52; John 9:38). He never rebukes people for worshiping Him. If Jesus were not God, He would have told people to not worship Him, just as the angel in Revelation did. There are many other verses and passages of Scripture that argue for Jesus’ deity. The most important reason that Jesus has to be God is that if He is not God, His death would not have been sufficient to pay the penalty for the sins of the world (1 John 2:2). A created being, which Jesus would be if He were not God, could not pay the infinite penalty required for sin against an infinite God. Only God could pay such an infinite penalty. Only God could take on the sins of the world (2 Corinthians 5:21), die, and be resurrected, proving His victory over sin and death." [gotquestions.org] Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

Hello Alegrio, C.H. Spurgeon in his Puritan Catechism states: Q. What is the work of creation? A. The work of creation is God's making all things (Gen. 1:1) of nothing, by the Word of his power (Heb. 11:3), in six normal consecutive days (Exod. 20:11), and all very good (Gen. 1:31). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q. How did God create man? A. God created man, male and female, after his own image (Gen. 1:27), in knowledge, righteousness, and holiness (Col 3:10; Eph. 4:24) with dominion over the creatures (Gen. 1:28). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q. What special act of providence did God exercise toward man in the state wherein he was created? A. When God had created man, he entered into a covenant of life with him, upon condition of perfect obedience; (Gal. 3:12) forbidding him to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, upon pain of death. (Gen. 2:17) May this help you in your understanding. BradK |

207 | who will Judge,Father?Son?Servant? | John 8:50 | BradK | 225216
Hello Alegrio, The Gospel of Judas isn't really germane as it's not canonical! Essentially, the Gospel of Mark portrays Jesus as Servant! (cf Jer 42:1) Can a Son of God become a Servant? Yes, the Son of God was! In Matt. 20:28 we read, "just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many." (NASB) Matthew presents Jesus as Israel's promised messianic King (1:23); Mark presents Christ as servant ; Luke presents the humanity and compassion of Christ; John presents the strongest case in scripture for the Diety of the incarnate Son of God (6:69). John 5:22 declares, "For not even the Father judges anyone, but He has given all judgment to the Son," Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

210 | why do you disagree | Acts 7:59 | BradK | 225152
Hello Warren, There is an undercurrent in your posts- from the verses you quoted- that would seems to indicate you believe salvation to be more than simply "by grace through faith" (Eph. 2:8). Most who use Acts to support the plan of (criteria for) salvation typically emphasize water baptism as a requisite. Yet, Paul clearly outlines the Gospel in 1 Cor. 15:1-4 1 Cor 15:1 Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, 1 Cor 15:2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain. 1 Cor 15:3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 1 Cor 15:4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, (NASB) My question is this: If baptism is a requirement for our salvation (the "Acts" formula), then why does Paul neglect to include it? Did he forget to mention it? How do we reconcile this? Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

211 | One soul,.. Many Past Lives ???? | Heb 9:27 | BradK | 225086
Hello legs..., I'm afraid scripture does not teach anything remotely having to do with either "regressive hypnosis" or re-incarnation! What scripture does teach is this: "And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment," (NASB) There is a disease we all have called sin. It affects each and every one of us. The only cure is found in the Lord Jesus Christ. Rom. 6:23 tells us, "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Further, we're also told in Rom. 10:9, "that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;" Have you trusted in the Lord as your Savior? In Him are hidden all the teasures of wisdom and knowledge. Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

Hello tamzan, Whatever your friend is claiming is not of God! God does not call us into mystical nonsense. I'd be uncomfortable too. 1 John warns us: 1 John 4:1 "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 1 John 4:2 "By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God; 1 John 4:3 and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God; this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world". 214 | Lying justified? | Josh 2:5 | BradK | 225026
Hello Just Read Mark, Good to have you back on the Forum. You asked, "Was it morally acceptable for Rahab to lie, to save the lives of the Israelite spies?". Scripture doesn't directly address this. To say anything else would be to argue from silence. What we do note, is that Rahab was commended for her faith! In Heb. 11:31 we read, "By faith Rahab the harlot did not perish along with those who were disobedient, after she had welcomed the spies in peace." (Parallel passages in Joshua and James don't deal with this matter either). In that sense I would term it a "non-issue":-) The entire chapter of Hebrews 11 speaks to and commends acts of "faith"! So I conclude that it was (and is) her faith that was notable, for that is what God inspired through the writers in scripture to record. I prefer not to speculate on what scripture doesn't speak to. I hope this helps, BradK |

215 | Is it Biblical to take up an offence | Bible general Archive 4 | BradK | 225008
Hello Prentiss, There is so much that could be said. As a rule, this Forum is not the best avenue to pursue matters of personal nature and relationships. Three quick questions: 1. Is your family member a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ? 2. Can you remain neutral- not take sides? 3. Do you have a Pastor that can provide needed Biblical counsel in this situation? Above all, continue in prayer about this family member and the situation. Lift it up in prayer, remembering that, "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God." 217 | About the Kingdom of God for 40 days | Acts 1:3 | BradK | 224955
Hello 00123, In answer to both your questions, we do not know from the text as it doesn't say. To say anything else would be speculation! All we're told is He (Jesus)was , "...speaking of the things concerning the kingdom of God" (NASB) We're not given any details beyond that. Paul warns us in 1 Cor 4:6 that we, "...may learn not to exceed what is written" The late Dr. Arthur S. Peake noted, "Speculative theology is an exacting master, and if we decide to go with him one mile he will make us go twenty." Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

218 | Dan doesnot show up in Revelation 7? | Rev 7:1 | BradK | 224951
Hello Joshua561, That's an ineteresting question. Keith Krell from his study on Rev. 7:1-17 says, "It has often been noted that John’s list of the 12 tribes varies somewhat from the usual listing in the Old Testament. Specifically, Dan and Ephraim are omitted and Joseph has been added. Since John does not give us reasons for this arrangement, we cannot know for certain why the above arrangement is given. One interesting note is that a “normative” list of the tribes of Israel is not to be found in the Old Testament. In fact, there are over 20 different orders and lists of Israel’s tribes. Only once is the same list repeated (Num 2:7; 10:14-29). Practically speaking, no one knows the identity of these tribes today, not even the nation of Israel. All of the genealogical records were destroyed by the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70. God however, knows His people and their whereabouts. The most important element in these verses is the stress on the number twelve, which reflects the interest in the identification of this group with Old Testament Israel." 219 | WHITE STONE- REV 2:17 | Rev 2:17 | BradK | 224915
Hello Elm, In context, John is addressing the church in Pergamum were overcomers are promised hidden manna and a white stone with a new name written on it. As the Bible Knowledge Commentary notes, "Scholars differ as to the meaning of the “white stone.” Alford is probably right in saying that the important point is the stone’s inscription which gives the believer “a new name,” indicating acceptance by God and his title to glory (The Greek Testament, 4:572). This may be an allusion to the Old Testament practice of the high priest wearing 12 stones on his breastplate with the names of the 12 tribes of Israel inscribed on it. Though believers at Pergamum may not have had precious stones or gems of this world, they had what is far more important, acceptance by Christ Himself and assurance of infinite blessings to come. Taken as a whole, the message to the church in Pergamum is a warning against compromise in morals or teaching and against deviating from the purity of doctrine required of Christians." According to the Commentary Critical, "white stone … new name … no man knoweth saving he—TRENCH’S explanation seems best. White is the color and livery of heaven. “New” implies something altogether renewed and heavenly. The white stone is a glistening diamond, the Urim borne by the high priest within the choschen or breastplate of judgment, with the twelve tribes’ names on the twelve precious stones, next the heart. The word Urim means “light,” answering to the color white. None but the high priest knew the name written upon it, probably the incommunicable name of God, “Jehovah.” The high priest consulted it in some divinely appointed way to get direction from God when needful. The “new name” is Christ’s (compare Rev 3:12, “I will write upon him My new name”): some new revelation of Himself which shall hereafter be imparted to His people, and which they alone are capable of receiving. The connection with the “hidden manna” will thus be clear, as none save the high priest had access to the “manna hidden” in the sanctuary. Believers, as spiritual priests unto God, shall enjoy the heavenly antitypes to the hidden manna and the Urim stone. What they had peculiarly to contend against at Pergamos was the temptation to idol-meats, and fornication, put in their way by Balaamites. As Phinehas was rewarded with “an everlasting priesthood” for his zeal against these very sins to which the Old Testament Balaam seduced Israel; so the heavenly high priesthood is the reward promised here to those zealous against the New Testament Balaamites tempting Christ’s people to the same sins." I hope this helps, BradK |

220 | Paul | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 224889
Hello do you frog, In general, this section of Phillipians is giving us the example of (the) humility of Christ. On a deeper level it's "Grappling with the mystery of the Christ of Christianity" (Dr. John Ward) Following are the outline notes from his exposition he gave this past summer- 1. The Duty- (2:5) "have this mind among yourselves", 'this mind' used 27 times in NT (24 by Paul) It is a continuous, active, imperative! A. Context 1. Logically connected with vv. 1-4 2. Grammatically connected with vv. 1-4 a. mind - attitude Used twice in vs 2, "like-minded" b. consider- same as verse vs. 3 "esteem" c. He humbled Himself- same root as vs 3, "lowliness of mind" The concept of this points us back to vs 1-4. 2. The Christology (2:6-11a) A. His Humiliation ( vs. 6-8) 1. The contextual distinction ( vs 6-8) a. Pre-incarnate state ("ek sarke") vs 6 b. Incarnate state ("en sarke") vs 8 2. The Biblical Assertions (vs 6) a. His eternality- self-existant always means pre-existant 'being' is present tense b. His Diety- 'morphe' form of God intrinsic/extrinsic c. His humility- His majesty or the surrender of His privileges. Is the "robbery" referred to active or passive? 3. The Theological Proposition (vs 7-8) cf 1 John 4:9, Gal. 4:4, Heb. 10;3) Phrase literally reads, "but, Himself He emptied" a. The Problem- kenosis (Gr) What was emptied? He gave up "positional equality" b. The Proposals- (what did He empty Himself of?) 1. Christ layed aside His pre-incarnate glory. the outward expression of (His) Diety. 2. He surrendered the independant excercise of His attributes 3. He emptied Himself of this for the purpose of death, to become man. As God cannot die, so that He could die for us. B. His Exaltation (2:9-11) God as the subject, Jesus passive 1. The Principle- The way up is the way down (James 4:10) 2. The Proposition- God the Father has super-exalted Him and given Him the name that is above all names; 3. The Purpose- (vs 10) That "every knee shall bow to Jesus" "Highly exalted"- only use is in NT 4. The Pronouncement- What is the name? ...Lord! Jesus is the one true God. Is. 45:5, 23 "I am Yahweh" My hope and prayer is that you can somehow use this to further your knowledge and understanding of this deeply Christological passage. It's truths are tremendous!
