My answer.................................................. Hi Colin, Thanks for your response and hypothetical :) situation. Your first question was how would I feel if a muslim man tried to get my daughter to study scripture with him by talking to her outside my church. My answer is that I would feel disturbed. Your second question was "what would you do"? I would talk to my daughter about the specific encounter and tell her that the man did not believe in the same God that we Christians do. I would say that it would therefore not be a good idea for her to study with him. The parallel to the current forum situation is clear. I think you are right to be disturbed that Aniset tried to convince Classy47 to study with him over email. I just think that the appropriate response is to tell Classy47 that Aniset is a member of a cult and to beware of his teaching. That should be sufficient based on current forum guidelines. Do you agree? |

Personal Note................................................ Hi BradK, Thanks for posting the doctrinal statement of the forum. Always good to have a refresher course now and then. This really is a great forum overall, and I'm glad that we can both participate in it together. Have a great day! |

Personal Note................................................ Hello Hank, I understand that my views on Aniset are of limited value to you considering I have not read all of his posts. However, this discussion that we are having started with this thread in particular, and in this thread, you accused Aniset of making "inroads of cultism", and told him to cease immediately. I don't have to read every post he has written to be able to respond to that accusation. I only need to read the post that you are accusing him about, and I did not see any statements that went against orthodox Christian belief in that particular post. You also said that I had written "sharp criticism" of others on the forum. I'm not sure which statements you are referring to, but I have tried to not be offensive to you or anyone else. Please read my post 117198 again, knowing that my tone of voice is not in the least angry or antagonistic, but simply trying to reason together. As for why we seem to keep butting heads, it appears that there is simply a disconnect between the attitude that I write my posts in and the attitude that comes through to you when you read them. It also seems that you think that I only state opinions and do not back them up with any facts. Do I understand you correctly? You finished by saying that you did not want this to turn into a series of arrows, but wanted to come to understanding and resolution. I couldn't agree with you more on that point. I am very thankful for all the hard work that you put into this forum (and have for years), and regret deeply that you seem to be angry with me at this time. |

My answer............................................................. Hi again Colin, You asked me a specific question, and I'll give you a specific answer. According to the current forum guidelines, it is less permissible to write a post that says "Jesus and Satan were brothers" than it is for a cult member to promote email correspondence. This is simply because there is a rule against making posts denying the deity of Jesus Christ, and there is no rule regarding the encouragement of email correspondence. I agree that the second could be more dangerous, however, it does not break any current forum rules. |

My answer............................................................. Good question Colin, You asked what I believe an "orthodox version" of Christianity was. I would consider that to be any group that believes in the statements contained in the "Apostle's Creed". |

Clarification......................................................... Hi again Hank, You asked, "Would I want Aniset emailing a member of my family to engage in private Bible Study?" The answer is no. I ask, "Does the forum have any rules that prevent that from happenning?" The answer is no. I ask, "Does the forum have any rules that prohibit members from posting that Jesus is not God?" The answer is yes. I ask, "Does it appear that Aniset posted that Jesus is not God, but only a creation of God?" The answer is yes, in post number 117322. You asked, "What should be the consequences (for post 117322)?" My answer is that Aniset should be asked to clarify his post 117322 and explain if he really means that Jesus is not God. If Aniset confirms our suspicions, then he should be banned from the forum for breaking forum rules. |

Personal Note......................................................... Hi Colin, I agree that the forum would benefit by stopping cult members from inviting people to email them for more information. However, that is totally up to Lockman and not us. Also I wonder how they could eliminate this without banning all people from posting their email addresses. Do you have any ideas? |

Personal Note............................................. Hello Colin, I completely agree with you that I too have learned from this forum, and it is definately worth defending. I'm glad that there are people like yourself who are comitted to that purpose. I just want to encourage everyone to keep their denfense consistent, based on Forum guidelines, and conducted with a Christ-like attitude. |

Personal Note……………………………………………….. Hi Aniset, I am surprised to see you still able to post, for I had heard your privileges were revoked. I would greatly appreciate it if you would clarify a post of yours. It is number 117322 and it states that Jesus was “God’s first creation”. That seems to say that there was a time when Jesus did not exist. Is that really what you believe, or am I misunderstanding you? P.S. Thanks for updating your user profile, as agreed. That will help people to know where you are coming from on certain issues. |

A different view............................................. There has been a previous discussion about whether to call Easter by another name (such as Ressurection Sunday). Please type in the number 113147 into the "Quick Search" box at the top right corner of the screen to go to that discussion. |

Personal Note.............................................. Hi Justme, I am glad to get to interact with you again. I apologise for taking so long to respond to your request for my thoughts, but I have been too busy to spend much time here at the forum for a while. As for your concern about my referring people to other posts making the forum less inviting to yourself and others, I had not really thought about that. I am sad that you felt that your ideas were not appreciated and that pushed you away. On the opposite side, I was pushed away for a while because of the repetative nature of the forum. Some discussions just seemed to repeat themselves endlessly. Anyway, my reason for referring people to other posts is simply because it is a forum guideline to do searches before asking questions. I would guess that 80 percent of the questions that people post have already been asked before indicating that this forum guideline is not being followed thoroughly. However, I am also aware that the search engine for this forum leaves a lot to be desired, and someone could try to do a search and simply not come across a thread on their subject. Therefore, I try to assist by pointing them to a thread that I already know from experience relates to their topic. I am truly trying to help them. I do hope that they will share their own thoughts on the subject. I just want them to do so after being informed of what has already been written. I hope that this all makes sense to you and that you can see more clearly where I am comming from. Have a great day and please keep sharing your ideas with us all :) |

194 | Why does God love the world (us)? | Genesis | Sir Pent | 59329
An opposing view .................................... Dear Cynic, I must respectfully disagree with my esteemed colleague. John Reformed comes from a theological perspective that does not believe in “free will”. Therefore, I respect his answer to your question as consistent within his worldview. I on the other hand agree with the theological perspective that does believe in the “free will” of mankind. (Which of these perspectives is correct has been covered extensively in other threads, so please don’t anyone start it up again here). Therefore, assuming that mankind was created with a “free will”, it would only make sense that God who created them had “free will” as well. In addition it is logical that a God, who is “almighty” or “all powerful” would have the ability to do anything. This would include loving or not loving us. I see this as making it even greater that God does love us. If He had to, then it would not seem as awesome as it does to know that He chooses to love me. And then to think that He knows me completely for all that I am and chooses to love me anyway, that is even better still. |

195 | Why does God love the world (us)? | Genesis | Sir Pent | 59340
Redirection....................................... Dear Cynic, I eartlier incorrectly replied to John Reformed, instead of to you. Please read my post on this thread titled "An Opposing View". ...................................... To clarify my meaning, when I say "free will", I mean, the freedom to do whatever a person wants to do within the limits of their ability. And in God's case I believe their are no limits to His ability. ...................................... I want to reiterate that whether the Calvinist perspective is right or wrong has been covered in previous threads, and needs not be repeated here. |

196 | Why does God love the world (us)? | Genesis | Sir Pent | 59343
Personal Note ........................................... Dear John Reformed, Thanks, but the one thing that separates me from that view is that I believe that God chooses to offer salvation to all people, and equally lead them all to obtain it, if only they would accept. |

198 | The bible is a work of fiction - discuss | Gen 1:1 | Sir Pent | 15511
Dear Forum members, I could be wrong on this, but let me hypothosize something. This post seems merely intended to be inflamatory. It appears to be the kind of post that only a person who was not truly interested in reaching understanding would post. I'm guessing that they either posted it and took off never to return, just to stir things up, or they posted it and will just watch and laugh at all of the responses. In either case continuing to attack their post either does no good (if they've left), or plays into their hands (if they're laughing). I would suggest that we cease adding to this thread, until Chimeara should return and indicate that they are legitemately interested in discussing whether the Bible is true. I would also encourage us as a Forum to be more careful in our responses to similar postings in the future. Perhaps we could just let one or two people respond intially, and see if the original poster remains involved in the thread or not. Does this sound reasonable? |
