181 | Two tragedies in Life | 2 Chr 26:16 | EdB | 243539
TWO TRAGEDIES IN LIFE George Bernard Shaw observed, “There are two tragedies in life. One is not to get your heart’s desire. The other is to get it.†1 A young man lived in a small town where he bore the distinction of being the only musician. Since he was a very talented young fellow and could play several instruments, he was invited to every social function in the vicinity. As his reputation for livening up parties spread, his talent took him further and further from home, which meant greater success, notoriety, and money. The young man’s father, who was a pious and good man, feared that such exaltation for his son might give him a twisted perspective of life. The father did not want his son to lose all sense of proportion, and come to believe that it was due to himself alone that such success had come. So he spoke to him. “My son,†said the wise dad, “promise me that you will make it a habit to visit either the aged, the sick, or the poor before you go off on another tour. This will help you to remember that in life the scales are always balanced; there is no good without some bad; there is no joy without some sadness; there is no affluence without some deprivation.†2 2 Chronicles 26:5 and 16 says of King Uzziah, “As long as he sought the Lord, God made him prosper. But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up, to his destruction.†Arthur Pink wrote, “The moon never suffers an eclipse except at a time when it is at the full! Grace is needed by us to use the grace God gives us, and to save us from turning His blessing into curses.†3 A politician collared newspaper editor Horace Greeley at a convention, and proudly confided to him that he was a self-made man. “That, sir,†Greeley replied, “relieves the Almighty of a terrible responsibility.†David Arnold Ministries |

182 | Every Word | Deut 8:3 | EdB | 243538
To deny God uses a multifaceted approach to His relationship by declaring the cessation of the ministry of the Holy Spirit denies the scripture where God said He would never forsake us. Jesus told us He would be closer than a brother to us. The Holy Spirit is called in scripture our companion. So in what way has God altered His relationship to us from that of the first century church?
183 | Every Word | Deut 8:3 | EdB | 243537
Why insist that God no longer reveals His will to us? It is definitely a ministry of the Holy Spirit. To say this has ceased is to say you have no relationship with the Holy Spirit. In previously quoted scripture I gave multiple scripture showing the Holy Spirit Iis our teacher. If as a teacher it is not to reveal more of Christ us then to teach us what? Such nonsense to suggest the Holy Spirit does not give us new revelation of God is to admit ignorance of both the Holy Spirit and what scripture describes as His earthly ministry to us. |

Nor do we have full understanding of Book of Revelation. That scripture's full understanding remains hidden or not yet revealed.
185 | Resisting the Place of Scripture | Rom 9:31 | EdB | 243534
The question as ways becomes who is exaggerating their authority in handling scripture and therefore are wrong and who is right. I do not doubt the sufficiency of scripture I question man's ability to find it. Especially men that reject the Holy Spirit to the point of rejecting His ministry to man. Case in point those that have concluded the Holy Spirit and His ministry no longer functions today. If they are so convoluted in their interpretation of scripture to come to that conclusion then we must assume they are convoluted in all other areas. |

186 | Resisting the Place of Scripture | Rom 9:31 | EdB | 243533
However scripture itself says not all has been revealed. 1 Cor 13:12 Daniel 12:9 So there are things yet to be revealed, that is why we need to remain sensitive to the Holy Spirit. And as such this yet to be revealed revelation has no being on the work of salvation. So the author of this quote is wrong. |

192 | ...All other ground is sinking sand... | Jer 6:10 | EdB | 243524
Hersey is easy to detect, it rails against the obvious truths of Christianity what is more difficult to detect is the deception of the truth, the winking at sin, the teaching that we can sin without fear or responsibility. Many men often quoted lead lives than would make Christ barf yet they are quoted as men of distinction, men to be honored, men of leadership. Yet true history not rewritten or revised history shows they were little more than politicians positions that were pleasing to the crowds that supported them. We have hundreds of men and women that should be honored those that kneeled in prayer while their spouses, loved ones and children were being torn apart as entertainment. Men and women that gave up everything to travel to places not yet known to them to tell others of the Love of Jesus. I wonder when we quote men that called for rebellion, war, outright adultery. That looked down their noses at races of people calling them vermin. Of men that tried to have certain books of the scripture removed because the contradicted their personal theology. |

195 | Tilling the Soil | Matt 11:5 | EdB | 243520
To properly "till the soil" the tiller must have the unction of the Holy Spirit within him. Many of great evangelistic services have seen thousands come to Christ only to walk away a short time later when the emotion, the hype wears off. Salvation requires a change. 2 Corinthians 5:16-17 (NASB) 16 Therefore from now on we recognize no one according to the flesh; even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him in this way no longer. 17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. As a new creation the old is indeed passed away. We don’t worry if we were elected or not and we don’t worry if we can lose our salvation because we are new creations and as such are called to holiness. Willful sin is not an option of we fully love Christ. We are not yet perfect and may still sin but that is as Paul said something we fight not give into. Evangelism has become the game of numbers, how many did you get saved, instead of work Holy Spirit through man. That explains the state of the church in many situations filled with people that seek man’s leading, man’s intellect, man’s logic. It is a church that mocks those that endeavor to live Holy and Upright before God. It is a church that quotes man injecting doctrine found nowhere in scripture. |

196 | Proof against election. | Matt 18:14 | EdB | 243519
Romans 8:29-30 (NKJV) 29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified. 1 Corinthians 2:7 (NKJV) 7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, Ephesians 1:5 (NKJV) 5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, Ephesians 1:11 (NKJV) 11 In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, Is this talking of individual men or is it talking of the collective of the church which God did foreordain to be justified and bring glory to God? Scripture clearly talks of God’s desire that none should perish. In John 3:16 we no requirement of election or predestination but the only the requirement to believe, to become dependant in our believe that Christ provided our salvation. As to the comment “Look for a church who hold to a confession (e.g., Lutheran Missouri Synod, Reformed Church of America, Dutch Reformed, Orthodox Presbyterian, or Reformed Baptist). The confession is what they understand to be the essential doctrines. Those without a confession will -- and do -- believe anything and everything. They will even place some things as having a higher authority than the Scripture.†This takes us outside the Terms of Use of this forum. Most if not all denominations not just those mention hold to Doctrine. As a member of the Assemblies of God we have 16 distinct Doctrines which as an ordained minister I must sign a paper stating I hold these as truth each and every year. A violation of this would require me to relinquish my credentials. It is against the terms of use of the Lockman forum to suggest that other denominations are in error because they aren’t in the named group. I also submit that God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit do in fact have a higher authority than scripture. NO where in scripture is there anything that states otherwise. In fact the Apostles were given authority to teach beyond scripture because the New Testament had not yet been written. The Holy Spirit was not withdrawn from man when the cannon of scripture was closed and much to the dismay of many the Holy Spirit’s ministry is alive and active today. The Holy Spirit will never take us pass the boundaries set by scripture but we should never reject the leading of the Holy Spirit as long as the leading brings glory and honor and majesty to Jesus. |

197 | Evidences that Give Assurance | Gal 4:7 | EdB | 243518
Yes the Holy Spirit is the assurance of acceptance of God but it isn’t until we fully yield to the Holy Spirit that we become empowered to the service we are called. Acts 1:7-8 (NASB) 7 He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority; 8 but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth." Many proclaim great things with elegant speech but few actually move in the Holy Sprit. Man has learned to piece together great flowing messages that touch the very emotional core of man but few have learned to yield to the Holy Spirit as to touch the soul of man. It is only under the unction of the Holy Spirit that preaching becomes life changing. Many sermons give us food for thought and growth but few transform us into the New Creations that walk holy before the Lord. |

198 | The Freedom of the Christian | 1 Cor 9:1 | EdB | 243517
Where is our freedom? Is it really that we have no lord over us or is it because we have the Lord over us? 1 Timothy 2:1-3 (NASB) 1 First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. 3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, We are to be in submission and many writers of old forgot this, they refused to submit to the authority God had placed over them and rebelled, often to their misfortune and brought disaster to the unity of Christ. Also we do not serve below us, we may feel that service is beneath us but when we serve we actually go above us, beyond what flesh desires as we push toward the mark the high calling of God. Again many forget the reason for service, 1 Corinthians 6:20 (NASB) 20 For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body. Jesus served man which in fact was beneath Him but we being servants of Christ are to serve our fellow man which requires us to go above and beyond our nature. |
||||||
199 | Hearing and Heeding the Holy Spirit | Rev 2:29 | EdB | 243516
Are we to be lead of man or by the Holy Spirit? Romans 8:14 (NASB) 14 For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. We sometimes place to much importance to where men have placed signposts and ignore the leading of the Holy Spirit which is promised to take us into a more complete relationship with God. The failures of man are important to observe so we don’t repeat their mistakes but the one that leads us should not be man but rather the Holy Spirit. |

200 | Condition of many Christians! | Hos 11:7 | EdB | 243513
MORE BACKSLIDERS THAN A DOG HAS FLEAS Three pastors, Peter Marshall, a Presbyterian, John Rustin, a Methodist, and Howard Anderson, a Congregationalist, were having lunch. John Ruskin was complaining about his troubles with Methodists. As he talked, Peter Marshall was relieved that Presbyterians didn’t have a monopoly on unredeemed human nature. “You mean that in your Methodist church, John, that some of your people have fallen from grace?†asked Marshall. “Peter,†he said, “we have more backsliders over there than a dog has fleas.†“That’s a good term, John – ‘backsliding.’ You Methodists preach a lot about that. The Presbyterians never mention it. They just go ahead and do it!†Just then, Howard Anderson humorously shared with them a poem he liked: “Tell my trustees when I am dead, That they should shed no tears, For I shall be no deader then Than they have been for years.â€1 “Then Jeremiah said to the princes and all the people,‘Therefore now amend your ways and your doings and obey the voice of the Lord your God’†(Jeremiah 26:12, 13). “There is a price to pay to be a holy man of God. You have to buck the current because the tide’s running the other way.†David Arnold Ministries |
