182 | do you belive in woman minister | 1 Tim 2:1 | Beja | 223781
Glomo, You may need to flesh out your question a bit more. Do I believe women ministers exist? I do believe they exist. Do I think they ought to exist? It depends on what you mean by minister. If you mean an elder of a church then I believe then they ought not to be. However, what various people on this forum thinks is less than irrelevant. The real question is what scripture says, to which I would refer you to 1 Timothy 2. In Christ, Beja |

186 | Is it OK to danc on Good Friday? | Eph 2:1 | Beja | 223700
MoQSwan, There is nothing in scripture about dancing on good fridays. However, I must say that I find an interesting inconsistency in your post. You seem so very worried about being specifically in God's will with regards to this question, yet you feel free to follow your own feelings in spite of what scripture says in other areas. Hebrews 10:24,25 and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some Scripture clearly commands us to be active in attending church. Also scripture clearly affirms that the gathering of the church is a place where God's presence is there in a unique way. Ephesians 2:19-22 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God's household, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit. 2 Corinthians 6:16 Or what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; just as God said, "I will dwell in them and walk among them; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. Keep in mind the concept of the temple is a special place where God and man meets. And now that is in the church. So what I wonder is, if you are willing to throw out all of scriptures teachings in this regard for the sake of your feeling, "God resides in everything and not just merely a church," then why worry so very much over precise details of what scripture says in regards to dancing? 189 | Who gets custody of children in a divorc | Matt 19:9 | Beja | 223510
Pumpkin, Scripture does not discuss this issue. However, I would assume that whichever of the parents didn't get stoned to death would have the children. Since the only valid reason for divorce is adultery, and the penalty for adultery is stoning, it seems the logical answer. One might ask what happened in all the occassions where God's instructions weren't obeyed? For example one might say alright, neither of us committed adultery and yet we are divorcing so who gets the children according to God? The problem with that question is that God doesn't usually give out secondary instructions. He doesn't say, "assuming you don't wan't to obey do this instead." We so often keep seeking for a way to be religious and acceptable without obeying. So the end result becomes something like this: Question: According to the Bible, who gets custody of the children in a divorce? Answer: Don't divorce. I know this might not be helpful, but its the only biblical answer I have, and the one I'd give my own relatives if they asked. Oh, and I'm not saying we should stone people for it today. 190 | Did John really baptise Jesus?? | Bible general Archive 4 | Beja | 223506
Cecilk, Welcome to the forum! John did indeed object didn't he. Mat 3:14 But John tried to prevent Him, saying, "I have need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?" So John testified in that to Christ's sinlessness. Though John didn't fully understand what was happening. Though even still, I certainly hope that John's words did apply to Jesus in another way! One might say, how is it that Christ can be baptized for repentence of sins? I ask you also, how is it that Christ was slain for sins? Christ performed all parts of perfect righteousness for those whom He has purchased for the Father. This is what our Lord responded. Mat 3:15 But Jesus answering said to him, "Permit it at this time; for in this way it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness." Then he *permitted Him. Christ did not merely need to accomplish death, He also needed to accomplish everything which the Father expected of you and me. If we say that Christ can not live and work for sinners, it is also a denial that He can die for sinners. But praise God that Christ has not only died in my place (substitutionary atonement) Christ has also lived out perfect righteousness on my behalf! (imputation of Christ's righteousness). And so Christ became our righteousness (1 Cor 1:30). 2Co 5:21 "He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him." In Christ, Beja |

191 | ... | 2 Pet 1:20 | Beja | 223472
Thorwald, I will try to follow your points. a.) Who says that King James was anointed? You might be surprised to find out that the translators of the King James Bible actually said that it is good to use multiple translations to get the sense of scripture. Second, all the arguements that are used against the modern translations were the same arguements used against the King James translation when it was translated. The Christian's of the time argued that the perfect translation already existed, the Latin Vulgate. b.) They said they would throw them out of the synagogue, not the church. You are majorly missinterpreting that scripture. Second, if you read Deuteronomy 13, you will see that God also allows false prophets who have false visions to test the people. 1 John 4 says that we are to test such confessions against scripture. That sir is why you have been thrown out of a Church. c.) If you read the 1 Corinthians chapter 7, you will see that scripture actually says the exact opposite of what you are saying. d.) Sir your visions are to be tested by scripture, and when your visions disagree that means you are a false prophet. Your visions do not trump scripture but rather are to be corrected by scripture. 193 | Is forgiving the unrepentent scriptural? | Matthew | Beja | 223264
Biblenovice, I intend this really as a response to all three of your posted questions, but I'll just pick one so as to leave others up for people to answer. My response is actually a question for you though. Do you attend a church? Very much of what you ask contains so many confusions and missunderstandings that it would be quite a task to straighten them all out in a single response. These should be delt with through careful instruction week after week in a local congregation. If you do not attent a church then I tell you right now, THAT is the means appointed by God for your instruction, and you would do well to attend to it. These forums are and will always be, very limited in its ability to help you. In Christ, Beja |

194 | Pastor giving a wrong info | Luke 6:37 | Beja | 223229
00123, In addition to the wonderful advice of speaking to your Pastor, here is a ten step procedure for dealing with this situation! 1. Pray through Ephesians 4:9-16 over and over for you and your church. 2. Pray so much for this man that it would embaress you to tell anybody of it, then pray for him some more. Pray specifically that he would be an instrument of fulfilling the previous passage. 3. Pray over your own heart and make sure you are not twisting his words and that you are understanding him rightly. You would be surprised how your own heart can fool you. 4. Re-evaluate the situation after having prayed through it in this way. 5. Study hard to see to the root of his missunderstandings, or simply his general lack of knowledge in scripture and be able to demonstrate the problem with scripture. 6. Take your entire list you just made in step 5 and hold it up to God in prayer, searching it or your heart for any accusations, unbecoming attitudes, or lines of thought which you would not desire somebody to correct you with, and substitute something more loving, more gracious, more kind, and more in line with the gospel of Christ. 7. Pray more. 8. Correct your pastor in private. 9. Pray more. 10. Take your concerns to the church. Clearly I'm being a little playful with the "ten step" thing, but I hope the real counsel is evident. 196 | SEARCHING FOR THE TRUTH | Matt 5:17 | Beja | 223163
Robert, It has been two days since the post which I'm responding to, but I've only just now back tracked through the thread. So forgive me if this thread would be considered dead. However, I would just like to highly reccommend to you a book by the name of "Marrow of Modern Divinity." It is a somewhat old book but it is a very simple and enjoyable read as far as those old books go. I believe if you truely want to learn about this then this book would would be worth thousands of dollars for the clarity it gives on such a crucial understanding of....well...pretty much the heart of everything. The good news is that I downloaded it free online. I think if you go to www.monergism.com (a fantastic site) and do a search for it then it will lead you to a place where you can get it free online! I hope it is as edifying for you as it has been for me. I've not yet even found the time to finish it yet from the little over half of it which I've read it would probably be one of my top ten reccommended books anybody reading this post. A MUST READ. 197 | homeasexual invited into home | 1 Cor 5:1 | Beja | 223127
Posha, According to 1 Cor 5, if a professing christian is a homosexual we are not to even have a meal with them. However, I take 1 Cor 5 to mean that if an unbeliever is a homosexual then we ARE able to eat with them. The idea here is that with those who are professing to be christians, they are giving the world a false idea of christianity and the gospel, therefore our deliberate seperation is part of preserving both the church and the gospel. On the other hand, I bring to your mind what Doc is so often reminding us of. There is a difference in what we may do and what we ought to do. We may eat and spend time with an unbelieving homosexual couple, but should we? If our time is being spent to build a bridge for the gospel then in my opinion this is a good thing. Yet if we are just hanging out and having an ongoing friendship with no context of striving to bring them to christ or to show them their sin, then I would suggest it could contribute to the problem of confusing the outside world what the church is suppose to be. Not suggesting every encounter with them should be you challenging them, but I think if their conversion is the dominant desire in your heart it will look different to all involved. Hope this helps. 198 | chould a preacher question peoples chris | 2 Cor 13:5 | Beja | 222834
Jamesandfaye, Absolutely they should. Though it is done in the right spirit. Doc, gave you an excellent answer. Might I just add that one of the reasons its fitting that he includes the question, "What is the church," is because a part of what it means to actually be a church is mutual responsibility for each other. This makes evaluating our evidences of salvation especially appropriate. In Christ, Beja |

199 | How can we know if Bible was not fabrica | Rom 10:17 | Beja | 222470
Billy 2010, You said, "I don't want to simply have a blind-faith." Sir, I would like to commend very highly to you "blind faith." Hebrews 11 teaches us that faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. And it is by this blind faith that abraham believed God that his descendants would be as many as the stars in heaven. It was by this blind faith that he was willing to risk offering up the one son of promise he had through whom God had told him this multitude would come, believing that if God let him die then God was able even to ressurrect him. Blind faith is the means by which men are saved. Read 2 corinthians 4:1-6. Men are not set free from being blinded by clever arguements, but by God granting them to perceive the truth of who Christ is. Romans 10:17 claims that faith comes from hearing, and hearing from the word of Christ! The parable of the rich man and Lazarus in Luke 16 ends with the rich man in hades crying out for lazarus to go warn his brothers of this place. He was told that they have Moses and the Prophets (the scriptures), the rich man responded that if only one rose from the dead then his brothers would believe!. The response to him was that if he will not believe those said scriptures, then he would not even believe should somebody rise from the dead to warn them. And I tell you, sir, should you not believe scripture for what it says with this "blind faith," then you will certainly not believe regardless what defenses we give you. That being said there are many apologetic sites that could give you "defenses" of scripture's inspiration. A couple of things that strongly argue in its favor are archeology and prophecy. Many prophecies in scripture were fulfilled with such obvious precision that it speaks of scripture's inspiration. Time and again also, the world has accused the scriptures of false history details, the book of luke was once laughed at for references to people and places that we had no record of existing. Yet christians took it with, "blind faith." Now Luke is marveled at as historically accurate to a remarkable degree. Why? Because archaeological digs kept proving Luke right time and again. There are other things to argue for it, but you can always find a way not to believe it. Seek out this blind faith you refer to. It is the good stuff. It is the saving stuff. It is the faith that can ward off all the attacks of Satan (Eph 5.) In Christ, Beja |

200 | Searching for the truth | Deut 6:5 | Beja | 222468
FytRobert, The intended function of the human body, soul, and spirit is to, "love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might." (Deut 6:5.) You are entirely purposed for the glory of the Lord. "the body is not for immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord is for the body." (1 Cor 6:13.) Also, "you were bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body." (1 Cor 6:20.) All of your body, soul, mind, spirit, strength, will, whatever, is all for one function, the glory of God! Therefore, "whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." (1 cor 10:31) This is for both now, and while you are in heaven. In Christ, Beja |
