161 | Living together | John 3:16 | skccab | 211506
Hey John, Your point is well taken. I may be mistaken here, but I think one of the concerns in the original post was being an example to a child. That is, would it appear as condoning living together to the child if we were visit this couple in their home? It was the eyes and mind of the child that was really the focus. That's why I suggested what I did. If I've remembered wrong, please forgive and ignore :o) Cheri |

162 | Living together | John 3:16 | skccab | 211501
Shalom Val, Perhaps a middle ground would be more effective - to not avoid nor to appear condoning- Invite them into your home (for a meal only...)? I can see both sides have creedence. Having other family members or friends inviting the couple into their homes takes the "living together" out of the equation, don't you think? Cheri |

164 | "living stone" references count | 1 Peter | skccab | 211458
Shalom St Simon, welcome to the Forum! Under the KJV translation, I found only these 2: 2Co 3:3 Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart. 1Pe 2:4 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, Under other translations, there may be more. Hope this helps Cheri |

167 | Was Job written before the flood? | Genesis | skccab | 211381
Shalom Glad2bcp, Welcome to the Forum!! What does CP stand for, glad 2 b what? Do you mind my asking? Now, to your question. There may be others with better information but I'll try to fill in the gaps till someone else can answer. It will just be human speculation, though :o) so don't quote me. The date, as far as I know, is not actually known but there are some things about the book that leads me to believe that it was written before the Exodus. The sacrifices were not according to the Books of Exodus or Leviticus, done by a High Priest, they were done by the head of the household, Job. His age matches that of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, etc. There is no reference to the nation of Israel, or to the Twelve Tribes, or to the Law of Moses. So it seems to be in the time period of Genesis after the flood (because of his age) to somewhere as late as maybe chapter 3 of Exodus, but I'd hold out for the time period from just after the flood's repopulation to sometime before Jacob's boys formed the 12 Tribes. Still learning also Cheri |

Shalom Ftlnbl, There are folks here more than happy to help answer a question for you but we need you please to be a little more specific? What book are you thinking about, which verses, what situation is going on that you're questioning. God gifts His with talents but mind-reading isn't one of them :o) Thank you. Cheri |

Pete, May I interject here? I think I may see part of the problem. You've just finished in the last day or two reading Matthew, you're finishing up with Luke and expect to be through John by morning? That's like eating a New York cream cheese cake in one sitting (my all-time favorite food). I'm gonna be a mighty sick puppy and then be all hungry again. You're reading far too fast. Slow down. Let your spirit digest what you're taking in. Go back to Matthew, read a few chapters, and find a few on-line commentaries and read those and then let your mind and spirit mull all that over before continuing with a few more chapters the next day. Follow the references that your bible affords you, those take you to other places in the bible that covers the same idea, or where words are used in like manner. If you slow down, you may find it's much easier to understand. Seriously, give Matthew about a week's worth of attention before moving on. Give it a try and see if that doesn't help? Shalom :o) Cheri |

Shalom Keliy, I really enjoyed your OT/NT statements that you shared, thank you. I'm going to copy them down in my Bible. Oh by the way I hope you had a tzohorayim tovim today (I finally learned good afternoon - it's in the plural.) Cheri |

Shalom again, dear Tim, I'm glad you didn't see it as harsh, but I sure did!! I try to be much gentler than that sounded, bad me bad me lol Oh OK. If you've followed the thread, then you saw what I posted before about the letter and the spirit of the law. I obey what I can because I choose to do so, not because I'm required to do so or for any kind of gain. My standing before the Father is completely in the finished work of the Son. And as far as I can see, about the only thing that is part of the "Law" as some call it that doesn't happen by following the two great commands are kashrut and the sabbath - and those are simply choices we are all free to make :-) Cheri |

Tim, Please forgive. I just reread my post to you and it sounds very harsh. It wasn't intended to be. I really do see myself grafted into the commonwealth of Israel (not a Jew, but adopted into the family of Promise) - am I wrong? Cheri |

175 | ... | Eph 2:15 | skccab | 211241
Brad, That is my goal as well. One way to know Him is to obey Him. I can sit and read about Him and talk to the walls about how I love everyone OR I can get out there and do as He says. I only know: think or do. As difficult as it is for me now, I'm still a doer. So I guess you're right, we're approaching from different orientations. but the operative word is "approaching" :o) Cheri |

Tim, Shalom If we are not Israel, then what is Rom. 11:13 ato the end all about? Just who/what are we grafted into? Who/what is the olive tree? By whose/or what root are we nourished? What do we do with Rom. 9:6-16 and Ezek. 47:22-23? Cheri |

Pete, Sorry for the second post, but I missed this first time around and wanted to address it: "My third passage in question is concerning Matthew 5:38-48. Jesus said ignore the eye for eye, tooth for tooth code, instead, resist no evil, turn the other cheek, if a man sues you, give him more, go the extra mile, love your enemies, bless them, do good to them and pray for them that curse, hate, persecute and despitefully use you and you will be perfect as your Father in heaven." Messiah did not actually say ignore, He was addressing the fact of the mercy in that statement - in other words, let the punishment fit the crime. Eye for eye, tooth for tooth... simply meant that you don't give a 5-minute time-out for murder nor a death sentence for a lie. If, indeed, Messiah changed any of the laws of God, He had every right to do so. If anything, He showed the spirit of what the law was supposed to do. In Ex. 23:4-5 God said if your ENEMY'S animal of burden goes astray and you see it, you shall not turn away your eyes from returning it (I'm sorry folks my renderig, I'm at work) Later on we're told by God that if we see our enemy with his beast of burden falling under the burden, again we are not to turn away our eyes from helping him with his problem. Isn't that what Messiah also said, just in different words? Cheri |

Good evening Pete, I have been a member of this forum for about a year and a half now and also openly Torah observant (I never really was a closet observer - just a little humor there). That is, I observe what of God's commands as given in the books of Moses to the best of my ability. Some things just can not be observed. The moral law, obviously, is still intact. God made a big deal about being able to distinguish between the common and the holy, the clean and the unclean, that I, personally, believe that this is still important. Now, none of this has anything whatsoever to do with my standing with God, that was taken care of by His Son - I could do nothing in that area; but I can obey out of thankfulness and gratitude that which can be obeyed. Are you understanding? You were forgiven on the cross for any offenses that took place prior to your knowledge of your Savior, you were forgiven for any sin committed before that time. You are also forgiven for sins/wrongs committed, even knowingly -tho not continuing in them, since you've come to know your Lord. Your salvation, deliverance, sanctification, perfection, etc., comes thru the completed work of the Son. Not a thing you can do. Keeping Torah will NOT save you, won't make our Father love you more than another child of His, won't make you more sanctified, not more of anything. Just maybe happier with yourself. Just love your Lord, and follow His commands as you are able to do within the framework of the land where you live. In short, don't worry about what you CAN'T do, just do what you can do and be joyful in it. Colossians 3:17. That's all I can say. That attitude serves me quite well. I'm at work so I hope I didn't muddy the waters for you any more than they were!! Cheri |

179 | chronology of books of the bible | Acts 17:11 | skccab | 211217
Shalom Albright, There are several "chronological bibles" available, either in your local Bible bookstore or you can go to christian discount bookstore and order on line. What I like to do, is go in person and see the Bible I want then I order from CDB, usually at quite a noticeable discount even including shipping and handling. :o) Cheri |

180 | Difference between guilt and conviction? | Rom 2:14 | skccab | 211210
Shalom EQ1, We are learning (I would hope) to not take our Bibles and hit people over the head with it :o) Tho we have all done that in the past, I'm sure, at one time or another. Romans 8:1 There is therefore, now no condemnatin ... If what you are hearing brings condemnation and hopelessness it is not from your loving Father. He is not the One who condemns, He forgives, binds up the wounds and heals. If what you're hearing tells you something is not quite right but here's how to fix it, then that would be the Holy Spirit that dwells in you, for He is there as your Guide and Comforter. John 14:16-18, 16:8-11 and 13-15, actually all of John chapters 14 thru 17 would be good reading on the subject of condemnation and conviction. Cheri Cheri |
