162 | can a child be baptised | Bible general Archive 4 | justme | 216679
morrison: Welcome to the Study Bible Forum! Your question is rather vague and can be answered more specifically with some more detail. However, yes a child can be baptised, but at what age? My wife was five and she is very positive to this day she knew what she was doing. If we are talking infant baptism, me being a Baptist I would say no to infant baptism. Just to add something more pretend a person was baptised, and down the road of life they don't feel they knew what they were doing at the time of their baptism. Should this person say to the pastor, I want to say I have surrendered to Christ at the age they are now, and want to be baptised, what do we do? We take the person and make sure they really know Christ and baptise them, it's just that simple. I hope this answer is helpful. justme |

163 | How do you know when GOD is talking to y | Bible general Archive 4 | justme | 216611
Hood Rat: I can answer your question with one hundred percent assurance that you can depend upon the rest of your life, and have confidence that you know God has spoken to you directly. Sounds impossible? You might be asking yourself is what "Justme" is saying for real or is he some kind of odd person pretending to know how God speaks to us? Are you ready to know? Study the Bible, Gods word. Hebrews 4:12 The Word of God is living and active. The Holy Spirit uses the Word of God to speak to us. Never will what we believe the Lord has spoken to us conflict with Scripture. The Word of God is exactally that, THE WORD OF GOD. Beware of false teachers and preachers that claim they have a "special word of knowledge" or that God has given them a special message to give to you. Check what someone is trying to tell you against what Scripture says. I know there have been a couple of times God has spoken to me, and there was no words to hear, but a overwhelming presence thet the Holy Spirit was communicating with me in such a way it was as it beyond belief. God warned me not to go in a direction with a choice I was making or there would be very serious consequences. The exact words that was spoken to me, was spoken by my wife as she prayed to the Holy Father. Neither my wife or myself had any contact as we were about seventy miles away from each other. This confirmed to my wife and me the Holy Spirit had spoke to me. Awesome, but earth shaking words I will never forget, and I to this day am very greatful I listened to what would change our life together, and further ministry. Matthew 7:7 says we are to seek Him. When we seek Him we must do it in his Word. Hood Rat, I hope this gives you assurance that you can know God speaks today, and He speaks to you. Blessings. justme |

164 | I see alot of people are using the title | Acts | justme | 216218
Hood Rat: I am personally have never run into any one who used the title of "Apostle". I have been in a Baptist church all my life. I surrendered to Christ as my Lord when I was 9. So I really don't have anything to base my hearing of that title on a person living today, as far as Baptist are concerned. Because I have limited exposure, and you have a different group of Christians you are with and use the title, with which group do you see using the title of Apostle, and on whom? I have seen the title of Elder and Bishop used. I did not know the title of Apostle was used today. So you have brought something new to me. Blessings. justme |

165 | y did jesus knw the time??? | Deut 29:1 | justme | 216144
rohitjohn90: This is a very good question. I am sure there are many answeres that have been thought of, so I will give you my belief. Jesus emptied Himself Philippians 2:7. I believe this means Jesus limited Himself and took upon Himself the Likeness of man. Perhaps this might mean Jesus limited His knowledge at that point and time. I am really not sure. But I do know in Dueteronomy 29:29 there are somethings that are known only to the Holy Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We have had things revealed to us from the Trinity and we accept those things we can understand and respect The fact there are things we just can not fully know now while on earth. Walking by faith is often putting one foot in front of the next, by faith. Faith walking can be very hard at tines. If Jesus had known when He was returning and told us, we might become lazy, or each generation might have just laid back and thought there was plenty of time, so why should we work hard. Perhaps of all Scriptures the 24th chapter of Matthew is the most important in understanding the return of Jesus. For me, I believe Jesus was telling us we must be ready, and to prepare to suffer. Verse 29 and 30 tells us that immediately after the Tribulation then the Son of Man (Jesus) will come on the clouds of the sky. I believe this should prepare us for the suffering and trouble to come. Better to prepare ourselves than to be so dogmatic that we will not see Tribulation, and be caught off guard. So friend, we need not worry about when Jesus knew He was returning, but He has told us what to watch for and to always be ready. Are you ready? justme |

166 | why do we sing the songs we sing? | Bible general Archive 4 | justme | 215897
Pwadumdi: Fanny Crosby worte many of the words to such Hymns, in the nineteenth century. She wrote so many songs that she had to use a different pen name to get them published. Look in a Hymnal and look at the information and see who wrote the music and then look to see who wrote the words. Many of the songs that were done this way 175 years ago, are a little hard to identify at this time. A good book of hymn history is in most libraries. This does take some effort on your part, but the reward will mean more to you if you do the research. One song that has been used in churches is "He's My Brother". There has been a slight change of the words. Many love songs have been choosen by couples as "their song" "Wind Beneath My Wings" happens to be the song my wife and love very much. I hope this helps a little more. Blessings. justme |

167 | Should christians sing secular songs | Bible general Archive 4 | justme | 215882
Pwadumdi: Welcome to the Bible Study Forum. Many of the hymns in our Hymnals that we sing today were secular tunes, with christian words added. I do not like much of the music today, but there are some very good songs that there is no reason why we can't sing. justme |

168 | why does god spouse to commit adultry | Bible general Archive 4 | justme | 215734
4 runner: Welcome to the Study Bible Forum. No where in Scripture does God say adultery is ok. Matthew 5:31 and 32, 19:3 to 9, Jesus clearly states this is wrong in marriage. Perhaps you are thinking that when a spouse is in adultery God has allowed it? We all have freedon of choice to obey God or to do as we want. God does not make us sin. James 1:13 is proof of that. I am not totally sure this answers your question. If my answer is not what you needed please restate the question and we will try once more. justme |

170 | Government? Ministers for Christ? | Rom 13:4 | justme | 215702
humility: Doc answered you so very well. However, might I add something more to think about? Under evil governments like Germany under Hitler many Christians as well as Jews were put to death. Seldom do we hear about the death of Christians. As a Christian how could they feel Hitler was ordained into power? We are told we are to obey God first and if a government is going against God, we are to obey God. Here is where situation ethics come into play. Does the situation govern our reactions or does our Christian ethics? The answer seems clear enough, but in reality we sometimes become like Peter and go with the path of least resistance. In fact we as Christians are now facing a government that is supportive of abortion, same sex marraige, and consider homosexuality as protected under the hate crimes act. In Canada preaching against same sexual activities of any kind is illegal. Perhaps forums like this may someday become outlawed in our own country. This may well be the begining of the tribulation for Christians. We are under a bias against Christianity that there is no doubt about it. Even nationally known television preachers are watering down their message and gaining in the opinion our present elected officals. We as a nation have left our basic roots. This might fit in with what you asked. justme |

rohitjohn93 :-( You have to be joking? At least I sure hope so. You really do not expect an answer to these three questions, do you? This is not what the Study Bible Forum is about. Asking questions that even a 13 year old knows the answers to is unworthy of our time. Please reframe from doing this again. justme |

172 | Is it against God's Law to be cremated o | NT general | justme | 215690
Hood Rat: You have an odd forum name. To answer your question, the Bible does not address cremation. Si cremation becomes a personal matter. I personally don not think cremation is the best. However a person burned to death, or lost at sea, or any number of ways the body becomes lost, this is in the Lords hands. How we are going to be resurrected is a mystry I do not believe anyone knows how it will happen. Something about a funeral with a viewinf settles ones mind that the person we knew is now gone, and grieving is somewhat easier, I think. Cremation was once less cost but now the cost is pretty much the same where I live. I do not think going for a brass vault and a walnut casket is a investment that is worth the cost. I have instructed my family only a inexpensive wood box and a cheap vault us what I want. After the service no one will ever likley see the casket ever again. Why spend so much on the funeral when the family often times needs money more than ever before? Hope this helps. justme |

173 | should we pray to god in the name of jes | John 16:26 | justme | 215589
rohitjohn93: I believe you have taken this verse out of context. Go back to verse 16 of chapter 16 and read to verse 27. In verse 23 to verse 24, where Jesus clearly says we are to pray in His name. After reading the complete context do you understand it now? Blessings. justme |

174 | Most important doctrines? | 2 Tim 3:16 | justme | 215586
CDBJ: I really can not say which is first and second and so forth. The Virgin birth, the signs of healing, and forgiveness of sin, the blood Jesus shed for our sins, Jesus dying on the cross, the resurrection of Jesus from the dead and Jesus walking and talking after he rose from the grave, and Jesus returning to the Holy Father. I see these as the core of Doctrine making a complete whole, we call salvation. None of the above mentioned can stand alone and call that single event of salvation. All of the events mentioned make salvation for us to surrender to Christ or reject the complete Salvation jesus offers to "who so ever will". I hope I did not mess up your question. That is how I see it anyway. Blessings. justme |

176 | Chosen one | 1 Cor 6:19 | justme | 215300
Chosen one: Welcome to the Study Bible Forum! How refreshing to see you filled out the Update User Info. It is a unique treat that someone fills out that so ver soon, thank you. There has been much talk about tattoos in the Christian comunity where I live, and several Chriatian articles about tattoos have been in some Christian magizines. The Old Te4stament is the only place that addresses marking our body. Some say because it is in the OT. it does not apply today. I have seen many tattoos in my life, I was in the US Navy, and saw all knids of tattos there as well. Most tattoos are not honoring to the Lord. Many Tatoos are shaneful and nasty to see. I personally think that marking our body is wrong. Even crosses, or symbols of Christian things are wrong as I undersatnd Scripture. However, when people get saved like Jesus we take Christians like they are. I see that tattoos have gained acceptance by women as well as men. Which I personally do not like. Tattoos are all but impossivle to remove except with plastic surgery, which is very costly. I have a older Poator friend who had a tattoo of a naked lady, and he scraped it off bu a carving knife. The removal left a large scar. He always had a long sleved shirt on so the scar would not be seen. He had the tattoo put on in WW II. he only two years ago went home to be in the Lord. I believe something as lasting as a tattoo that is put on in a time when not much thought is given into is the tatoo a sin, is when most people get a tatoo. For me a tattoo would be a sin. I think it is a mistake at least and often a burden, and is often a shame. Ihope this helps. Thanks for being in the forum. justme |

178 | speaking in tounges | 1 Cor 12:30 | justme | 215033
walkfor Christ: Welcome to the Study Bible Forum. The beliefe that unless you speak in tounges that you don't have have the Holy Spirit is not supported in Scripture. As a note the use of the "Holy Ghost" is not correct. There is only one place in Scripture the word "Ghost" and it is not connected with the "Holy Spirit". The Word of Faith movement and the Pentacostal churches believe you must speak in tounges. I have always been puzzled at why only the gift of tounges is the most desired gift by some, when I ask what about the gioft of helps, giving, and encouragement? These gifts are certianly equally as important. justme |

179 | What does the Bible say about anal sex? | Gen 19:1 | justme | 214763
humility: Although stjohn answered your question, This is a question that should not be brought into the Study Bible Forum. This is my opinion, and does not represent the SBF or Lockman. I consider this question a waste of your and our time. If there were some younger viewers on the forum this would be offensive to the parents. Please, ask some trusted adult rather than asking here. There is a generation that thinks anything that comes to mind is ok to discuss in any place at anytime. I am an old stickler about somethings just don;t belong for everyone to read. I hope there are others that see this as I do. justme (an old man) |
