James 2:15-16 (NASB) 2:15 If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food, 2:16 and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and be filled," and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that? RAD, your original question was "I am always asked, How do I know that Saturday is the seventh day of the week? Is there anywhere in the Bible which gives a clear view as to which day is the first or seventh day?" I pointed you to the scripture you requested. It doesn't matter what you call yourself, the scripture remains the same for everyone. Also, notice I pointed you to the Terms of Use? Did you read them? It was obvious where you were headed with this from your first question. So let me ask you. Were you honest with your first post? Do people really always ask you how you know that Saturday is the seventh day of the week? Did you are did you not know already what scripture said? One more time, go back and read the Terms of Use. Note bullets 2 and 3 under the FORUMS - MEMBER CONDUCT section. Steve |

165 | Birth place of Cain and Abel | Gen 4:1 | humbledbyhisgrace | 188592
God drove Adam and Eve out of the garden of Eden (see Genesis 3:24) Adam had relations with his wife (Eve) and gave birth to Cain and Abel (Genesis 4:1) which as I read it was after Adam and Eve were driven out of the garden of Eden. Your second question is absurd! By the way, Adam and Eve were not born! Steve |

Greetings yosevuk! Welcome to the Study Bible Forum! I'm not aware of anything in scripture referred to as the "twenty-second prayer". My guess is, the song was referring to a prayer of salvation. In what way I'm not sure, I don't know the song :-) Steve |

Are you an atheist? Is your intent to disrupt this forum? 1 Corinthians 2:11-14 (NASB) 2:11 For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God. 2:12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God, 2:13 which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words. 2:14 But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised. Romans 3:23 (NASB) 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Romans 6:23 (NASB) 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 5:8 (NASB) But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 10:13 (NASB) for "WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED." Romans 10:9 (NASB) that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; Romans 5:1 (NASB) Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, Romans 8:1 (NASB) Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Romans 8:38-39 (NASB) 8:38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 8:39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Ephesians 2:8-9 (NASB) 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 2:9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. Steve |

169 | Saying "AMEN"...outloud? | Deut 27:20 | humbledbyhisgrace | 187652
Greetings mouse! It is biblical brother/sister (?) And I don't doubt your motivation when saying it is right on target! Amen away and may those around you see the joy God has put in your heart! Here is a little more info that may help with your question. Hope this helps! AMEN Transliteration of Hebrew word signifying something as certain, sure and valid, truthful and faithful. It is sometimes translated “so be it.” In the OT it is used to show the acceptance of the validity of a curse or an oath (Num. 5:22; Deut. 27:15-26; Jer. 11:5), to indicate acceptance of a good message (Jer. 28:6), and to join in a doxology in a worship setting to affirm what has been said or prayed (1 Chron. 16:36; Neh. 8:6; Ps. 106:48). “Amen” may confirm what already is, or it may indicate a hope for something desired. In Jewish prayer “amen” comes at the end as an affirmative response to a statement or wish made by others, and is so used in the NT epistles (Rom. 1:25; 11:36; 15:33; 1 Cor. 16:24; Gal. 1:5; Eph. 3:21; Phil. 4:20). Paul ended some of his letters with “amen” (Rom. 6:27; Gal.:18). Ancient authorities add “amen” in other letters, but translations reflect this only in their notes. In the Gospels Jesus used “amen” to affirm the truth of His own statements. English translations often use “verily,” “truly,” “I tell you the truth” to translate Jesus’ “amen.” He never said it at the end of a statement but always at the beginning: “Amen, I say to you” (Matt. 5:18; 16:28; Mark 8:12; 11:23; Luke 4:24; 21:32; John 1:51; 5:19). In John’s Gospel Jesus said “Amen, amen.” That Jesus prefaced His own words with “amen” is especially important, for He affirmed that the kingdom of God is bound up with His own person and emphasized the authority of what He said. Jesus is called “the Amen” in Rev. 3:14, meaning that He Himself is the reliable and true witness of God. Perhaps the writer had in mind Isa. 65:16 where the Hebrew says “God of Amen.” -Roger L. Omanson —Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary God bless, Steve |

170 | what is faith that overcomes | 1 John 5:5 | humbledbyhisgrace | 187548
Greetings tichman! And welcome to the Study Bible Forum! To sum it up, it is faith in the Lord Jesus Christ! He is the one who overcame the world! In Him, we too have overcome! Helpless, desperate, completely unable on our own, we are in need of a saviour! And we have one! Amen! It is Jesus! Here’s a good place to start. 1 John 5:4-5 (ESV) 4 For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world— our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? Faith in the Lord Jesus is absolutely essential! (John 3:16, Romans 10:9, 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, etc…). Do you believe Jesus is the Son of God? Do you believe that God raised Him from the dead? Do you confess Him as your Lord? By Faith, Steve |

171 | how do we benefit from serving in church | NT general Archive 1 | humbledbyhisgrace | 187229
Greetings sarahcitychurch! Take a look at Ephesians 4, 1 Corinthians 12, and Romans 12. I would think there is much that could be said in regards to your question. The suggested passages above should give you a good idea of the importance of finding your place in the body of Christ. First of all, you have been blessed beyond measure if you have even been placed in the Church by God (1 Corinthians 12:18). It must be said that not only do you benefit, but so to does the body of Christ! Thoughts that come to mind before I run off to work - An opportunity to reach out to the community and the world to share the Lord Jesus Christ with others! An opportunity to serve the King! An opportunity to serve your Brothers and Sisters in Christ! An opportunity to experience abundant life! An opportunity for obedience! An opportunity to grow even closer to the Lord God! An opportunity to study His word and share it with others! etc.., etc..., etc... The benefits are endless for it is God Himself that has placed you there! |

172 | The two witnesses | Revelation | humbledbyhisgrace | 186870
Greetings GE! Here is what the Bible Knowledge Commentary has to say. Maybe this will help! The Ministry Of The Two Witnesses (11:3-6) 11:3-6. It was revealed to John that the two witnesses would be empowered by God to serve as prophets for 1,260 days or 42 months. They would be clothed in sackcloth and would be called two olive trees and two lampstands. Numerous and varied interpretations have been given concerning the two witnesses. Some have suggested that they are not literal individuals. However, in view of the fact that they die and are resurrected, the implication is that they are actual people. Another problem is their identification. A common interpretation is that they are Moses and Elijah because the judgments inflicted by Moses and Elijah in the Old Testament are similar to those of these two witnesses (11:5-6). Further support is given the identification of Elijah because of the prediction (Mal. 4:5) that he will appear “before that great and dreadful day of the Lord comes.” Christ said this prophecy of Elijah was partially fulfilled in His lifetime (Matt. 17:10-13; Mark 9:11-13; cf. Luke 1:17). And both Moses and Elijah were involved in the transfiguration (Matt. 17:3), which anticipated the Second Coming. But a problem with this suggested identity is that Moses had already died once. Some have identified the two witnesses as Enoch and Elijah inasmuch as they did not die but were translated (cf. Heb. 9:27). While there is room for considerable discussion of these various views, the fact is that the passage does not identify the two witnesses, and they probably do not have historic identification. The description of the two witnesses as olive trees and lampstands has an Old Testament background (Zech. 4:2-14). The two witnesses in this passage were Joshua the high priest and Zerubbabel the governor. Their connection to the lampstands was that they were empowered by the Holy Spirit, symbolized by the olive oil. In a similar way the two witnesses of Revelation 11 will be empowered by the Holy Spirit. Like prophets of old the two witnesses will be able to do supernatural miracles, and fire will destroy those who will try to harm them (Rev. 11:5). Like Elijah they will have power to stop rain, and will have power like Moses to turn water into blood and to bring on plagues (v. 6). In the midst of the unbelief, apostasy, and satanic power of the Great Tribulation these two witnesses will be a threat to the entire wicked world for a literal period of 1,260 days. —Bible Knowledge Commentary By Faith Brother, Steve |

173 | No reprobates in the Bible? | Matt 12:31 | humbledbyhisgrace | 186820
Greetings AF! Not sure how you would define a reprobate but looking at the way Webster's defines it and the Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary defines it... REPROBATE KJV term used in two senses: that which fails to meet a test and is thus rejected as unworthy or unacceptable, as impure silver (Jer. 6:30) or persons (2 Cor. 13:5-7; Titus 1:16); and that which is depraved or without morals (Rom. 1:28; 2 Tim. 3:8). NASB and RSV used “reprobate” to mean “one rejected by God” (Ps. 15:4; cp. HCSB, REB, TEV). —Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary REPROBATE n. A morally unprincipled person. One who is predestined to damnation. adj. Morally unprincipled; shameless. Rejected by God and without hope of salvation. tr.v. rep·ro·bat·ed, rep·ro·bat·ing, rep·ro·bates To disapprove of; condemn. To abandon to eternal damnation. Used of God. --dictionary.com It would appear the reprobates you have in mind in the bible had never received salvation. Or do you have a different understanding of reprobate? Hope this helps! By Faith, Steve |

174 | reference to sexual nature | Bible general Archive 3 | humbledbyhisgrace | 186734
Greetings! A couple of things to consider! What would give you reason to even consider if this was right or wrong? Surely the enemy would have no problem with the matter! Reasoning something away by justifying it as it's really not so bad implies compromise in my opinion. Another good reason to consider what it is that would even try and convince you this would be okay. Let me know if you find any humor on the matter in scripture. It’s my opinion that if your approach lacks integrity and honor to God it matters not how successful the venture is by worldly standards! By Faith, Steve |

177 | Mat 21:12 Arrogance or what? on J' part | Matt 21:13 | humbledbyhisgrace | 186688
Greetings jbrob! I can't speak to what the pastor is doing / being accused of but perhaps this will help in regards to the passage in question. Matthew 21:12-13 (NASB) 21:12 And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all those who were buying and selling in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who were selling doves. 21:13 And He said* to them, "It is written, 'MY HOUSE SHALL BE CALLED A HOUSE OF PRAYER'; but you are making it a ROBBERS' DEN." Verse 13 pretty much answers the question why Jesus reacted the way he did. Also, it should be noted that the Perfect One's indignation was righteous. We know from scripture He did not sin nor did He have a sinful nature. He IS righteous in everything He does. Here is what the Bible Knowledge Commentary has to say on the passage. As Messiah Jesus entered the temple area, His indignation was directed toward those who had changed the character of the temple from a place of prayer into a place of corrupt commercialism. Many were making their living from the temple and the sacrifices purchased there. They insisted that in the temple the people could not use money that had been circulating in society, but had to change their money into temple money first, for a fee, and then use the temple money to purchase animals for sacrifice, at inflated prices. Since such extortion was completely contrary to the temple’s purposes, the Lord overturned their tables and benches in the outer court of the Gentiles while quoting parts of two Old Testament verses, Isaiah 56:7 and Jeremiah 7:11. (Jesus had previously cleared the temple at the beginning of His ministry [John 2:14-16].) —Bible Knowledge Commentary Again, I can't speak to what the pastor is doing. However, His approach if justified might be something we need to see more of in the church. It's time God's people stood up in their own local church and made a difference. We are taught in scripture there are tears among us but I find no where we have to allow them to choke the life out of the church! Just an added thought :-) God bless, Steve |

Greetings DLorddaughter! Knowing what the scriptures teach us, my question is why is everyday not a day we set aside to worship and praise God? Just a sample of what I'm talking about! Psalms 103:1-22 (NASB95) 103:1 Bless the LORD, O my soul, And all that is within me, bless His holy name. 103:2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget none of His benefits; 103:3 Who pardons all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases; 103:4 Who redeems your life from the pit, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and compassion; 103:5 Who satisfies your years with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle. 103:6 The LORD performs righteous deeds And judgments for all who are oppressed. 103:7 He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the sons of Israel. 103:8 The LORD is compassionate and gracious, Slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness. 103:9 He will not always strive with us, Nor will He keep His anger forever. 103:10 He has not dealt with us according to our sins, Nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. 103:11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth, So great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him. 103:12 As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us. 103:13 Just as a father has compassion on his children, So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him. 103:14 For He Himself knows our frame; He is mindful that we are but dust. 103:15 As for man, his days are like grass; As a flower of the field, so he flourishes. 103:16 When the wind has passed over it, it is no more, And its place acknowledges it no longer. 103:17 But the lovingkindness of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear Him, And His righteousness to children's children, 103:18 To those who keep His covenant And remember His precepts to do them. 103:19 The LORD has established His throne in the heavens, And His sovereignty rules over all. 103:20 Bless the LORD, you His angels, Mighty in strength, who perform His word, Obeying the voice of His word! 103:21 Bless the LORD, all you His hosts, You who serve Him, doing His will. 103:22 Bless the LORD, all you works of His, In all places of His dominion; Bless the LORD, O my soul! Greetings mouzehug! I think it should be noted we take the word of God serious here. It just may be possible you are not even reading from the word of God because you don't find "Rack, Shack, and Benny" anywhere in the scriptures. Also, it wouldn't be much of a challenge for you if someone answered the question for you now would it? Perhaps its the disrespect you have for God's word that has made this such a challenge for you. How about a hint instead. The entire Old Testament points to Jesus, try reading it! Steve |
