161 | Question about Acts 2:38? | NT general | CDBJ | 219169
Greetings and welcome to the forum, Acts 2:38 trips up many folks, until they learn how to break down the verse. Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. The key to this verse is in the Koine Greek of the New Testament with regards to the word REPENT i.e. METANOEO in the Greek. This is a compound word META and NOEO. Meta means to change and noeo is a derived of the word for mind or intellect. It means to have a change of mind about the person of Jesus Christ and put all of one’s faith in Him. This in essence is to believe the truth of the gospel message of God’s Son. When this is done, that individual is automatically sealed with the person of the Holy Spirit. Ephes. 1:13-14 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory. The second confusing part of that verse is that some think that their sins are washed away by baptism because, (A) this deals with water and, (B) water gives the connotation of washing. The fact of the matter is the cleansing comes about because of the precious name of Jesus, God’s Son. Acts 22:16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord. Trusting in Jesus and calling out to God the Father in Jesus name: this is what removes the sin problem. I John 2:2 Jesus and the work He did is what satisfies the righteousness of God on our behalf, not the fact that we get baptized. I hope this helps, CDBJ |

162 | Scripture on God raised Jesus from dead | NT general | CDBJ | 219156
Greetings with more of the same, John 20:26-31 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. 27Then saith he to Thomas, reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. 28And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. 29Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. 30And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: 31But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name. Acts 9:1-9 And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, 2And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem. 3And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: 4And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? 5And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. 6And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do. 7And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man. 8And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw no man: but they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus. 9And he was three days without sight, and neither did eat nor drink. Have a great day, CDBJ |

Greetings, You might find this helpful. Luke 24:13-35 And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs. 14And they talked together of all these things which had happened. 15And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them. 16But their eyes were holden that they should not know him. 17And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad? 18And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days? 19And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people: 20And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him. 21But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done. 22Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre; 23And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive. 24And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not. 25Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: 26Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? 27And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. 28And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further. 29But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them. 30And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. 31And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight. 32And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures? 33And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them, 34Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon. 35And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread. 1 Cor. 15:1-8 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: 5And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: 6After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. 7After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. 8And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. 164 | Assurance of salvation | Eph 1:7 | CDBJ | 219148
Greetings, There are many things that “well meaning” pastors have asked people to do in order to have salvation in Christ and when people do them they are literally just jumping through someone’s “psychological hoop”. Examples: Come forward, ask Jesus into your heart, say a specific prayer, give your heart to Jesus, yield to the calling, turn your life over to Christ, confess your sins to God, the list goes on and on. The best thing to do is to read what Scripture actually says not what some assume! Matthew 7:22-23 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. For starters: Why was the book of John written? John 20:30-31 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: 31But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name. The book of John was written so that people might believe that Jesus is God’s appointed one, the very Son of God Himself, and that He personally came to Earth to pay the price that God demands for us to have eternal life. The word believe, through out the Bible, is what confuses most on their spiritual road to salvation. The English word for believe doesn’t even come close to what the word meant in the original language. In the English it means to give mental assent to something but in the Koine Greek, of the New Testament, is means to thoroughly have confidence and trust in something without faltering in ones trust of the object. Ephes. 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9Not of works, lest any man should boast. One is saved by GRACE through the action of faith. Faith has no merit in and of it’s self, it demands an object! The object of faith for salvation is where the merit resides and that object “Must” be in the person of the one and only Son of God, Jesus Christ and what He accomplished on the cross. John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Couple that verse with the following Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; The previous verse is accomplished when one puts “all of their hope for eternal life” in the Saviour that God provided, His uniquely born Son, Jesus Christ. John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. The very moment one believes the gospel or good news that Jesus paid our price God the Holy Spirit seal us and makes us one of His own. Galatians 3:26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. Ephes. 1:12-13 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. 13In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit actually enter into the new believer and reside in that person’s life from then on. John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Once a person has Christ in their life “through believing”, i.e. faith in Jesus Christ their eternal future is sealed. 1 John 5:10-13 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. 11And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 13These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. These are promise from God Himself and God can’t lie! They aren’t some assumed actions that one thinks they must do for eternal life, all that stuff is nothing more then works which will end in eternal condemnation. John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. Have a great day, CDBJ |

169 | why kill everyone if you a God of love? | Bible general Archive 4 | CDBJ | 218169
Greetings, That is because God is all knowing and He knew from His omniscience that the “beautiful loving terrorist” that we have today would come down to us from the ones that “weren’t” killed when God commanded the Israelites to do so. Now because of them, not being obedient to the command of God, we have to reap the results for what they didn’t do properly! Man can never be disobedient toward an all loving and understanding God and come out on top. If the Israelites of years gone by had done what they were told and killed “ALL” that God commanded we might not of had the situation that occurred on 9/11. Galatians 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. It doesn’t pay to try and out think the Lord when it comes to our well being. Proverbs 16:25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. Even today people are trying to devise their own means of salvation instead of relying on what God has already done for them in the person of His Son, Jesus Christ. John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 1:11-12 He came unto his own, and his own received him not. 12But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Have a great day, CDBJ |

172 | Are there different judgments? | Bible general Archive 4 | CDBJ | 217330
This is a dividing judgment for those that are left, very few, on the Earth after God pours out His wrath of destruction by fire, before He sets up His Earthly Kingdom. This is the Judgment before Christ 1000 Year reign is established. The judgment of; Rev. 20:11-15 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. 12And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 13And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 14And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. This is the final judgment where the eternal abode for all those who haven’t believed in Christ is consummated. Hell, as we know it, is but a temporary place of confinement holding in reserve the unbelievers that have rejected God’s plan for eternal life in Christ. Those condemned at the white throne judgment will enter their final abode, which was actually prepared for the disobedient angles including Satan and one third of his following angles. Those in Hell will experience a second separation from the presence of God with a resurrected body that can never be destroyed but will constantly be going through the process! All judgment mentioned in the Bible take place with the Son, Jesus Christ, residing as judge on the bench of authority. John 5:22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son: John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. Have a great day, CDBJ |

173 | "An eye for an eye" relevant now? how? | Bible general Archive 4 | CDBJ | 217225
Greetings and welcome to the forum. My wife and I were just talking about this verse today over dinner. It is my understanding that the “eyes have it verse” is more along the judicial lines. Have you ever considered that the Jews of old didn’t have prisons, hum? My wife was reading from the Sunday’s paper where a man poured nitric acid all over his wife with the intention of killing her. He only received 12 years as a punishment and she is still very miserable though alive. I wonder what kind of a deterrent it would be, using the Lords advice with regards to such capitol crimes; I’ll bet the next idiot would think twice after witnessing such a retaliation in the judicial system! When ever we try to diminishing what God has commanded to be done we always end up paying the price in the long run. The Lord is always right even if it doesn’t quite fit into our program or frame of mind. The bleeding hearts have set things in motion that won’t be set right until the Lord’s wrath is poured out in full measure. Rev. 19:15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 178 | can a child be baptised | Bible general Archive 4 | CDBJ | 216690
Greetings, The Bible does not say one way or the other in regards to this situation but what it does say is this. Acts 8:26-40 But an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip saying, "Arise and go south to the road that descends from Jerusalem to Gaza." (This is a desert road.) 27And he arose and went; and behold, there was an Ethiopian eunuch, a court official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of all her treasure; and he had come to Jerusalem to worship. 28And he was returning and sitting in his chariot, and was reading the prophet Isaiah. 29And the Spirit said to Philip, "Go up and join this chariot." 30And when Philip had run up, he heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and said, "Do you understand what you are reading?" 31And he said, "Well, how could I, unless someone guides me?" And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him. 32Now the passage of Scripture which he was reading was this: "HE WAS LED AS A SHEEP TO SLAUGHTER; AND AS A LAMB BEFORE ITS SHEARER IS SILENT, SO HE DOES NOT OPEN HIS MOUTH. 33"IN HUMILIATION HIS JUDGMENT WAS TAKEN AWAY; WHO SHALL RELATE HIS GENERATION? FOR HIS LIFE IS REMOVED FROM THE EARTH." 34And the eunuch answered Philip and said, "Please tell me, of whom does the prophet say this? Of himself, or of someone else?" 35And Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this Scripture he preached Jesus to him. 36And as they went along the road they came to some water; and the eunuch said, "Look! Water! What prevents me from being baptized?" 37[And Philip said, "If you believe with all your heart, you may." And he answered and said, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God."] 38And he ordered the chariot to stop; and they both went down into the water, Philip as well as the eunuch; and he baptized him. 39And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away; and the eunuch saw him no more, but went on his way rejoicing. 40But Philip found himself at Azotus; and as he passed through he kept preaching the gospel to all the cities, until he came to Caesarea. The key to when a person should be baptized is found in verses 36 and 37. When anyone believes that Jesus is the Christ the Son of God nothing then should hinder him or her from being baptized. This critical point of information may come at different craniological ages in a person’s life. An infant does not have the ability to understand this critical point of doctrine. To baptize an infant would be like plugging an appliance into a receptacle that isn’t connected to the power source, until certain conditions are met it is useless and not according to God’s protocol. Trusting in Jesus as ones Saviour and knowing that He is God’s Son is paramount to baptism. "If you believe with all your heart, you may." Have a great day, CDBJ |

179 | follow up to 1 corinth 15 question | 1 Cor 15:52 | CDBJ | 216288
Greetings, I believe it is a righteous thing with God that His believers endure the persecution that will be poured out by the adversary in the lasts days. Those persecuting the saints will be the target for God’s reaction towards them. 2 Thes. 1:4-6 So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure: 5Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer: 6Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; I think the Lord will supply the grace that it will take to endure this time of vengeance and that many will not be ready for that which is coming. A good heading for the following verses would be the persecution of God’s elect in the final days! Luke 17:28-37 Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; 29But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. 30Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed. 31In that day, he which shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back. 32Remember Lot's wife. 33Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it. 34I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left. 35Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left. 36Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. 37And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Wheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles be gathered together. Wheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles be gathered together. This is a Hebraism that tells us that where justice is needed God will surely measure it out, even though it will seem long in coming to the little one of God that are going through it as the following parable explains. Luke 18:1-8 And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; 2Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man: 3And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. 4And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; 5Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. 6And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith. 7And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? 8I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth? God will avenge those going through this persecution even though it seems like He won’t according to their timing. Rev. 6:9-17 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: 10And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? 11And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled. 12And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; 13And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. 14And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. 15And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; 16And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: 17For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand? The faith of many will be shattered during the final days of the church because they have been deluded into thinking that they will not have to endure such persecution! 2 Thes. 1:10 When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day. Have a great day, CDBJ |

180 | Life in the power of the tounge. | NT general | CDBJ | 214995
Greetings and welcome to the forum. There are many verses contained in Scripture that fall into the category of what we call, in the English, parenthetical which boils down to thing in addition that don’t actually necessitate action on the part of the one in question which answers your question. Case and point: The entire book of John was written to convey a specific point. John 20:30-31 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: 31But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name. The sum total of John’s gospel revolves around the word believe, which in the Koine Greek of the New Testament is the word, PISTEUO and just who Jesus is as the focal point. Of the four gospels that we have in the Bible, John expounds on the meaning of faith more then all the rest, close to 98 times, yet the word faith isn’t mentioned; he chose rather instead to use the word believe. The word faith and or believe is a transitive verb, which places the emphasis on the object not the subject. The key to salvation is not in the one doing the believing but the integrity of the object believed on which must be “Jesus” the very Son of God Himself. Believing is not doing something, but how one thinks. What one does after believing comes about as a result of having faith in God’s Son, Jesus the Christ; the works are forthcoming as an act of God in one’s life. Ephes. 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. Many see salvation as putting the cart before the horse, i.e. works for salvation, and according to God’s protocol that just does not work. God did “all” the work and He gets all the credit all we can do is thank Him for the fantastic gift of eternal life that resides in His Son Jesus Christ. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. 1 John 5:11-13 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 13These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
