161 | V chip for Christians? | NT general Archive 1 | justme | 168546
As Christians we are called to be a light, to live so others see the difference in us compared to the way of the world. What do you think about Christians who have movie stations like HBO etc. Some Christians do not have television because of the offensive nature of many programs. What is a Christian response to these issues?

163 | Jesus to judge or not to judge? | John 12:47 | justme | 168473
We read in John that Jesus said He did not come to judge. Yet, in other NT places it says Jesus will judge. How do we understand this in the correct way?

166 | Are these essentials for Salvation? | Bible general Archive 3 | justme | 167050
Dr. Norman Geisler, in the CHRISTIAN RESEARCH JOURNAL, Vol. 28 No. 06 2005 page 29 has a list of essential Christian Doctrines. In paragraf three Dr Geisler has a list of "It is not necessary, however to believe in." "Christ's virgin birth,...Christ's bodily ascension...Christ's present service, or...Christ's second coming and final judgement as a condition for obtaining a right standing with God (justification)." What is your reaction? Do you agree or not agree with Dr. Geisler. PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND WITHOUT SCRIPTUAL EVIDENCE BACKING YOUR OPINION. |

167 | A better English Bible ? | 2 Tim 3:16 | justme | 166399
I have recently bought a ESV and find it delightful! I have been compairing it with the updated NASB. The ESV seems to favor the KJV and the sweet flow of words are beautiful. The NASB has words that seem to have a deeper meaning at times which really touch my heart. For me I was reluctant to buy a ESV because it was just one more English translation, which I really did not need. I am so glad that other users of the ESV have said how they have learned to rely on the ESV, and encouraged the use of the ESV. Now I have the ESV, the NASB, and the NIV together as I study. I would encourage others to look and see if this might help in their Bible study as well. Has anyone else found a English Bible that has helped as much as the three I mentioned? |

168 | Demon's in people today? | Eph 6:12 | justme | 164498
In our world today, can you point out a person in the public eye that you might consider Demon posessed? I doubt that some even consider this when we listen to worldly people talk. Are the Demons of today more or less active than in Jesus time on earth?
169 | Reading too much into C S Lewis ? | 2 Tim 2:15 | justme | 164115
There is much coverage of C. S. Lewis, his life, and his writtings of late. I am concerned that to much is being drawn out of the stories he made up, especially in relating it to Jesus. I am just not sure that so much of Christ was intended to be assumed nearly fifty years later. Perhaps, am I wrong? I heard his step son on PBS say that smoking and drinking were acceptable for Christians. I have serious problems with ever saying smoking is not totally bad for our health and not a habit I would ever defend. Could someone please help me to better understand this confussion. If at all possible use Scripture to explain your understanding. |

170 | How much is too much? | 1 Corinthians | justme | 161882
On Bott Radio A speaker asked how much money is to much for a Christian? A million dollars, hundreds of millions? The question is how little can we live on? Then, at point can we stop earning, and give all to God? Any thoughts on this? Justme |

171 | Biblical era culture, abd Understanding | 1 Tim 2:12 | justme | 161265
Hello Doc: I think it is interesting that "devon" asked the inital question, and no resonse has been made by that person. Oh well. But just to add some more thought to the issue of Scripture and Transculture, I have a serious question. If we follow your interpretation of how culture should cross the culture of time and years, than why not use the customs of the time of Jesus, ore even if you like go the the culture of Paul while in Rome? Much of the time period of Paul and Jesus had dietatary laws and personal, male and female cleansing regarding husband wife and their private love life. Then there was the womens laws regarding the birth of a male or female child etc. My point is there was an itermixing of religious laws and the ones of governing authorities. We live in a time when women have gained a rightful position in many areas, and some areas have gone beyond what is considered by some, to be barbaric, by killing their own child while in the womb. The numbers of baby killings is in the multi-millions just in the United States! The group I feel that has been so reluctant to even consider the possibility of the effect of past culture, on the role women have in the church, are those who fail to see the influence the culture of those who penned Scripture, while under the leadership of the Holy Spirit. Yes, I agree there is a "slippery slope" in attempting to understand what is cultural and what is to be "for believers in all time,". I do not want to appear to be unorthodox or liberal, but I personally have no desire to greet my brothers and sisters in Christ with a holy kiss. I have used some very simple illustrations, but it does get more complecated as we fully study the Scripture from the view point of, what did it mean to those it was written? What was the history of the time it was written, and how do I apply this to me today? These questions are something we must do to totally understand Scripture. Now there are many passages this would not apply, as the issue is totally clear with no added understanding will change a thing. I am sure what I have said is redundant, but none the less worth while to recall every once and a while. Blessings to you. justme |

172 | Twisted Scripture, what do we do? | John 17:3 | justme | 161058
I purchased a TNIV and have spent much time reading it so I can speak with some first hand knowledge. Several of us in this forum previewed the TNIV NT before it was put into print and circulation. I personally find the TNIV unacceptable, but interesting to see where liberal teaching is headed. The bad press the TNIV has received is justified. However, why have the New Living Translation and the Message also received equal the negative reviews? Gender Nutral translations are sneeking in, with the aid of good recognizable Christian's of noterity. Just as there are versions which have hidden motives, there are versions that place the male form of words when it is not correct to do so. Dr. James Dobson recently had a 2 part teaching about the TNIV, and in Vol 28 No 3 and 4 of 2005 of the CHRISTIAN RESEARCH JOURNAL Dr. James White has a two part article "BIBLE VERSIONS: THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY". Once again I ask how many English Versions of the Bible do we need? On the James Dobsom program the guest who helped translate the ESV said the only versions he reccomended were the ESV, NASB, NKJV, and teh KJV. I was concerned that the NIV was not even considered as one to use. However in a large percentage of churches the NIV is widely used as their churches Bible of choice. Is the TNIV a wolf in sheeps clothing? what should we as Christians do to show our concern about translations who alter the text to reflect gender nutral or other attempts to bring a bias out in twisted scripture? 173 | John 3:16 | John 3:16 | justme | 159724
In John 3:16, are these words of John or Jesus? I recently read a article that says these are the words of John. After reading this verse many times, it has room to consider this option. Any thoughts?

176 | I am not sure what my mistake is? | John 17:17 | justme | 147567
Searcher56: Perhaps I do not fully understood the Forum rules. I felt quite sure I was careful to avoid either of these positions, as I personally agree with neither, so I took my solidly nutral position. Nothing I said, that I am aware of, could be used by either those of the Calvinism or Arminianism belief. I believe I have been totally cooperative in not doing anything but quoting snippets of John 10. Surely my note does not attempt to do anything but encourage this man, from taking anything but Scripture to make up his own mind. I am not intentionaly or by accident trying to undermine the Forum rules, and I am unaware if that I ever have. I have the utmost respect for the beliefs and traditions of the fellow Forum members (or whatever the proper name for Forumites). Would you please re-read my note and tell me where I, as you understand it, neglected to obey the Forum rules, please? I ask this with the utmost respect and kindness. Blessings. justme |

177 | Have you looked at the published TNIV/ | Nahum | justme | 147444
Has anyone looked at the published TNIV. I would like to know if it is a worthy translation? When I previed the TNIV in the early stages before publication. I felt it was seriously flawed. I glanced at The TNIV in a book store recently, and saw some major changes for the better. I wonder if the publishers reconsidered and mad the TNIV more inline with conserative theology? Please answer this ONLY IF YOU HAVE LOOKED AT THE TNIV. Thank you and blessings. justme |

178 | The TNIV in it's published form now? | Haggai | justme | 147371
About 18 months ago some of us reviewed the TNIV. For me the TNIV was unworthy of publication, and many in the forum were equally unimpressed. The TNIV is not out in full publication both Old and New Testament. I opened one and read in several portions of Scripture where I felt the preview text was seriously flawed. To my amazement the few places I skimmed over were changed to a more acceptable wording. Has anyone looked at the final published text of the TNIV? Not having but a few quick monents to glance over the TNIV I would like to hear for others who have looked at the TNIV in the final text. Blessings. justme |

179 | Why the long threads on sexual topics? | Bible general Archive 2 | justme | 145696
A few days ago I noticed a quite long thread that many in the Forum joined in on. The subject was self-pleasuring. I was amazed at the advice given by so many! Not to my amazment it seems to me that subjects that deal with moral issues, abortion, divorce, living together, and personal problems get what seems like too much attention. At times "keyboard psychologists" give advice that is not wise, and has no Biblical basis. My point is that I wish that some of the Bible based questions got as much response, and the threads were as long and wide in opinions. Why do you think this does not happen as much? |

180 | Are demons active today in our world? | 1 John 4:4 | justme | 144291
Do demons exist today? How do they influence Christians today? If Jesus cast demons out in His time, then are we less borthered now? Why is the issue of demons ignored by churches today if there is such a thing as demon oppression on Christians. PLEASE DO NOT ANSWER THIS QUESTION WITHOUT SPECFIC SCRIPTURE TO BACK UP YOUR ANSWER. justme |
