161 | No more Israel? | John 14:6 | charis | 3158
Dear Sgt_Z_Squad, Yes, friend, I did look at the Bible. Yes, that is what Hebrews 8:8 says, but nobody is sure that Paul wrote the book of Hebrews. Yes, in the New Testamant, Jesus speaks in the context of the kingdom of God, that the gate is small, and the way narrow. However, when God makes an everlasting covenant, I still suspect that He means what He says. Your analogy is interesting, but could it not be that the sign says, "Old bridge ahead, but new (better) bridge turn toward Jesus."(?) If the Lord God made a bridge, it would last an eternity. My fellow saint, you seem to have made up your mind on this issue. By the way, does it not seem to you that Israel plays some part in the end-time? Are all those references pre-New Testament Israel, or 'spiritual Israel,' the church of Christ? I do not find an absolute answer on this one, so I give it to God. When I meet Him, I'm sure He will make everything clear. In the meantime, when I meet a Jew (not many in Japan :-), I will tell him there is a better covenant in the Lord Jesus Christ. 162 | So...covenant to Abraham nullified? | John 14:6 | charis | 3102
Dear Sgt_Z_Squad, Is your answer, then, that the Old Covenant has been done away with? That the everlasting covenant of faith to Abraham has been nullified? Trust, friend, that I am not a Jew, nor do I defend the lack of faith toward God that the Jewish nation repeatedly manifest. However, though I understand the inability of the Law and blood sacrifice to save, the covenant with Abraham was a covenant of faith established long before the Law. Please show me scripturally where God reneged on His promise to Abraham that those individuals who have faith toward God are in His favor (His face shines upon them). 163 | Is man a 'triune' creature? | Heb 4:12 | charis | 2199
Dear inhzsvc, "Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ." 1Thessalonians 5:23 NASB. Apparently, Paul is making a difference between body, soul, and spirit, and that this situation exists before we meet the Lord. The writer of Hebrews makes it seem that the Word divides them for a reason. I have a theory, but want to ask if anyone else thinks that man is a triune creature? Blessings in Jesus' name, charis |

164 | Woe to us? | Matt 23:13 | charis | 2193
Brethren, In Matthew 23 we have the 7 woes (actually 8 woes) against the scribes, Pharisees, and hypocrites. Does this only apply to the religious order of the Jews 2000 years ago? Could this describe the splintered church of today? If not, defend the division we have. If so, what do we do? Grace and peace to us all in Christ Jesus, charis |

165 | Why must we divide soul and spirit? | Heb 4:12 | charis | 2192
Fellows, Why must we divide soul and spirit? How does this apply to our thoughts and intentions of the heart? In Christ Jesus, charis |

166 | Is God fair? | Ps 11:7 | charis | 2191
Saints, Is God fair? I often hear righteous equated with fair. However, I perceive that that our Lord is often 'not fair,' not only from the world's point of view, but even from the believer's as well. Explain the difference, please. (Please, I know that God is 'beautiful') In Christ Jesus, charis |

167 | Without the Spirit? | Acts 2:38 | charis | 2133
Dear inhzsvc, Talk about a 'blast from the past!' I am sure that you win the 'answers to previous postings' prize, and I congratulate you :-) On a more serious note: How can you forget the importance of the pouring out of the Holy Spirit? This is truly the only time I have heard anyone deny the 'creation of the church' on the Day of Pentecost. Your 'few reasons' (16, no less!) are thorough and well-presented. I would have a hard time arguing against any of them, except for one thing. Israel had all the facilities and functions and organization to be called a 'church,' too. Indeed, Christ "...chose us in Him before the foundation of the world..."Ephesians 1:4 NASB, but without the Spirit, nothing could begin! Nothing! That is precisely why He had to send the Comforter and Helper. We needed this "Power from on high." Luke 24:49 NASB The glorification of the church started on the Day of Pentecost. (It's like having a Ferrari without gasoline, or a 1 GHz notebook PC without a charged battery, useless, though very impressive :-) Friend, if I read it right, all that was to prove that we have to baptize in the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit? What about anything else we do? In the name of Jesus, or otherwise? Blessings to you in Jesus' name, charis |

168 | Elaborate, please? | Jer 6:16 | charis | 2131
Dear prayon and SBF saints, I know the definition, but describe the ancient paths. Who is it that refuses to walk in them? In what manner would this exhortation apply to us in the New Covenant? In Christ Jesus, charis |

169 | Sabbath because it is a rule? | Col 2:16 | charis | 2089
Dear Rayteck, Do you keep the Sabbath because it is a rule? Are the Ten Commandments observed only because God commanded them? All of the Ten should be kept because of their intent, and because we want to please our Lord and Savior. Indeed, your argument is well presented. But Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath. The intent of the Ten Commandments is intact, but the religious observance of any 'special day' has has been superceded by the fact that every day is special in Christ Jesus. This cannot be said of the Sabbath. We gather on Sunday because the early Christians from the beginning (Acts 20:7, 1 Corinthians 16:2) found a new beginning in Jesus. This was continued, as confirmed by Ignatius (circa 110AD). It was made an 'institution' in the 4th century, but, had been practiced from the time that the Lord revealed to Paul and others the salvation of the Gentiles. Yes, Paul went to the synagogues on Saturday, where else would he find the Jews? But he taught Christ on the first day of the week. (I have studied church history a bit :-) By the way, you said that Jesus 'rested in the tomb' on Saturday. I don't think so... He was breaking the Sabbath by working, a holy work that gave you and I freedom from death and Satan. How you get 'observe the Sabbath' from Isaiah 66 is beyond me. It says clearly that we will worship Him daily, that new moons and sabbath are inconsequential. Friend, every day is the Lord's day. Church history shows that the early Christians gathered on the 'first day' to celebrate a risen Savior, even the Jewish Christians did so after the destruction of the Temple. If you choose to worship on Saturday, this is allowed. I pray that you gather because it is the Lord's day to you, not because it is 'Commandment Number 4.' Blessings and love in Jesus' name, charis |

170 | Double standard? | Eph 4:11 | charis | 2062
Dear RCScroll, With all due respect, wouldn't this be a 'double standard' of Bible interpretation? What would keep us from 'picking choosing' gifts of the Spirit, or even books of the Bible, as some do? Please look over my thoughts outlined in Apologetics, Parts 1 and 2 (again, my humble apologies to you about my mix-up), and explain scripturally why post ascension apostles and prophets are mentioned, but now invalid. 'The closing of the canon of scripture' should have no more difference to the continuance of one ministry over another. My friend, this is not a 'shooting match' against you, I pursue Jesus. I have seen balanced ministries that continue in the work of the apostles and prophets in the same manner as pastors, evangelists, and teachers. I have also seen much abuse, and I am a victim of such abuse. Being burnt gives me care in application, but doesn't make me forsake fire. Many blessings to you in Christ Jesus, charis |

171 | Are there (then) no mysteries? | 1 Cor 4:1 | charis | 2051
Dear JVH0212, Though (isn't it interesting how often we all use 'but,''though,''however,' etc. :-) I agree with the above definitions in a theological sense, I must ask, "Are there (then) no mysteries?" I ask this on behalf of the many Christian believers that don't have the 'faith' to understand all the 'revealed' mystery of God. In other words, these mysteries are revealed in faith, but maybe not in a 'logical' manner. For instance: Jesus is God, but became a man in order to repeal the sin of believers. This is revealed by the Spirit to us, and must be accepted in our hearts by faith, not in our minds. Our minds cannot accept this, being a spiritual concept. Another: Why did God choose some, and not others? The mind rebels and says, "God is unfair!" The heart believes that God is just, and trusts Him. There are many, but one more: When, and under what circumstances will the Lord return? Just like the 'sensationalist press,' YOU want to know! But the Bible states clearly that "...these things are hidden..." We are told, "Wait...for I am coming quickly." These things are all mysteries not revealed to the mind. The world is totally baffled, and the 'pursuit of details' has divided the church for millennia. Many things were meant to be, yea, calculated to be hidden from our minds. Indeed, in faith we trust God, and He blesses us with peace in our hearts. I believe that many (not all) Christian scholars would be better off to stop their 'mind-satisfying' dwelling on details, and focus on the 'primary' things of God. This would make them not only 'knowers' of God, but practitioners of faith, and preachers of the Gospel, which is the calling of all. Being a 'steward of the mysteries of God' would mean (also) that we have the courage to say, "I don't know how or why, but I know that God IS." (my paraphrase of "For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day." 2 Timothy 1:12 KJV.) 172 | Why the 7th day bent? | Col 2:16 | charis | 2050
Dear Rayteck, Is there a particular reason that you focus on the '7th Day Sabbath?' "For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath." Matthew 12:8 NASB. Jesus spoke clearly of the hypocrisy of the supposed 'Sabbath-keepers' on many occasions. He spoke of common sense and holy attitude, both of which the 'leaders of the Jews' lacked. Jesus rose on the first day of the week, and we celebrate that and honor it in our hearts, not in a 'legal' manner. Sister TerryM said it best, "The Bible says give of the first fruits of your labor." This is an attitude of honor and worship, supeceding the letter of the Law, which has been clearly abolished. I, personally, consider Saturday to be a day of thanksgiving and preparation, but Sunday is His day, and I offer that day as a sacrifice of my heart, and worship and praise Him, Lord and Savior. Friend, your insistence on Saturday worship suggests a bent of religious legalism, rather that a humble conviction of truth. If this is, indeed, your Christian heart, and the 'traditions of man' play no part in your thinking, then God bless you in it. In Christ Jesus, charis |

174 | Whose bad hermeneutics? | Gen 6:4 | charis | 1939
Dear Brent Douglass, So what you are saying is that the idea of angels procreating with humans is just as shaky as demons doing the same? If this is so, I am in complete agreement with you. Indeed the 'bad hermeneutics' started with those who blandly stated 'as fact' that the 'sons of God' were angels, right? If I am guilty of anything, dear friend, it is for taking the absurd to the next 'logical' step of absudity, which was exactly my point. After reading your 'bio,' I am careful not to take offense at your 'argumentative style.' Please afford me the same courtesy and do not be put off by my sense of humor :-) I love you, friend and colleague, in Christ Jesus, charis |

175 | How do we break up our 'fallow ground?' | Hos 10:12 | charis | 1913
Dear TerryM, Good answer! Do you think that this verse and it's context might give us insight on how to break up this 'fallow ground' in a practical sense? Maybe there are some supporting verses? In Christ Jesus, charis |

176 | Nephilim Humans? | Gen 6:4 | charis | 1912
Dear Brent Douglass (not your name :-), Actually, I don't believe that the Nephilim were angels. Before I go into that, though, why is it bad hermeneutics, to say that if one 'created spiritual being' (angel) can procreate with humans, then another 'created spiritual being' of the same type (demon, fallen angel) can, too? This is all based an a theory I don't believe anyway, but as a hypothetical, both should have the same basic capabilities. After all, we are not told that the demons were neutered before they were cast down. In fact, this is the point of my question: Many Christians ascribe to Satan and his minions power they do not have! Satan is the 'prince of lies,' and many good Christians believe those lies. In addition, we have 'Rosemary's Baby' and 'Omen'-type movies that are accepted as the way things are. (Sadly, many uninformed or misinformed Christians believe in Hollywood) Well, the Bible does not say that that is the way things are. Friend, you are absulutely correct, the most logical idea is that they were 'big guys,' but human. Often, however, logic is chucked in favor of the sensational. In the area of speculation, how about that the Nephilim were the 'sons of God' in the sense that they were of Adam and Eve, as compared to 'daughters of men' who were not of Adam and Eve? The idea has some merit, but would be heretical to 'absolutists' that say that all mankind had to come from Adam and Eve. 'Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."' Genesis 1:26 NASB tells of the creation of man, human beings, but not God's chosen race. Then "Then the Lord God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being." Genesis 2:7 NASB could speak of a spiritually 'living being' that was 'special,' God's chosen race. This would explain many of the 'complications' involved inexplaining the various races and who Adam's children married, etc. This speculation is at least as good as some of the other theories portrayed as 'absolute truth.' In any case, my friend, it is speculation, just as you said. Thanks for a good, insightful answer. Blessings to you in Christ Jesus. charis |

180 | Spiritual beings procreate? | Gen 6:4 | charis | 1884
Forum Fellows, Can spiritual beings procreate with fleshly beings? I can think of only one instance in the Bible where this took place, and that was the conception of Christ Jesus in Mary by the Holy Spirit. Yet, the 'common interpretation' of this scripture is that the sons of God are angels. If we believe the angels can procreate with humans, then it follows that demons can, too. Or is this another thing that is 'for a limited time only?' Blessings in Christ Jesus. charis |
