1481 | How can there be 1000 yrs of reign? | Rev 20:7 | BradK | 122026
Aspilos, Scripture actually says this very thing. If you haven't, read Rev. 19-20. The order you see is this: 1. Chap. 19:11- the Second Coming of Christ; 2. Chap. 20:1-3- Satan is bound 1,000 Years; 3. 20:4-6- Saints Reign 1,000 Years; 4. 20:7-9- Satan Is released and Leads Rebellion; 5. 20:10- Satan is Cast into the Lake of Fire; 6. 20:11-15- The Great White Throne Judgment; 7. Chap. 21- A New Heaven and Earth Are Created I hope this helps, BradK |

1482 | Why is the devil released after 1,000 yr | Rev 20:7 | BradK | 121985
LIVERIGHT, In my understanding, scripture doesn't explicitly tell us why satan is released in Revelation 20:7. However, we can be thankful that his triumph is short-lived! As to your reference to isaiah 14:12,God allowed satan to be "the god of this world" to serve His purpose. There is some explanation in verses 13-23. I believe it to be for His glory ultimately. Eccl.3:21 tells in regards to animals, "Who knows that the breath of man ascends upward and the breath of the beast descends downward to the earth?" Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

1483 | Should we not be Dispensational and why. | 2 Tim 2:15 | BradK | 121982
annie.dunn, Well, you can check my profile if you'd like. I consider myself fairly dispensational. As a method of interpretation, I feel it does provide an overall logical and sound framework with which to understand the entire Bible. However, it has been my experience that not all agree with this method of interpretation. There are both moderate and extreme positions within Dispensationalism. I would consider myself moderate:-) Much of the debate centers around several areas: 1. The Body of Christ vs. Israel ( are they the same or do we differentiate?); 2. The beginning of the Church ( Early, Mid, or Late Acts); 3. Prophecy vs. Mystery ( what is intended for Israel and that which is intended for the Body of Christ); 4. The sacraments of Communion and water baptism. ( are they necessary and still to be practiced); 5. The "sign gifts" ( are they still valid or have they ceased?) This is just a summary of some of the issues that I'm familiar with. Obviously these can be met with opposition and not all will hold to, or embrace every aspect of dispensationalism. I believe much can be gained by following the guideline that "in essentials, agreement, in non-essentials, liberty". Speaking the Truth in Love, Brad |

1484 | What change can we expect? | 2 Cor 5:17 | BradK | 121947
Aixen, Your question is a bit philosophical, but I think I understand your thoughts. I agree that one of the biggest fears of man, is the fear to change. We all resist change to one degree or another. Everyone has their own baggage in coming to the Lord, so some of us must "be changed" more than others. I can look back at my own testimony, and being honest, admit that I was "afraid I'd have to give up those things I enjoyed doing" if I turned to the Lord. Well, I did, but as the song goes, "the things of this world will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace." What I "feared", I'm now glad, to the praise of His glory that I did. He has changed me and continues to do so. So, according to the Bible, what change can we expect" The process is at least in part found in Romans 12:1-2: "Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect." 1485 | defiant step child | Prov 22:6 | BradK | 121792
BeccaG, As a parent, I can sympathize with your dilemma. Without trying to counsel you specifically, these are difficult years for teens- defiant or not! James Dobson's book , "Parenting isn't For Cowards" may be of help to you. Many children at this age, mistake respect as a given instead of something that's earned. Here are a few scriptures that may help. Prov. 22:6 "Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he is old he will not depart from it." Prov. 23:13-14 " Do not hold back discipline from the child, Although you strike him with the rod, he will not die. You shall strike him with the rod And rescue his soul from Sheol." Prov. 29:15, 17 "The rod and reproof give wisdom, But a child who gets his own way brings shame to his mother. Correct your son, and he will give you comfort; He will also delight your soul." Eph. 6:1-4 "Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother (which is the first commandment with a promise), so that it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the earth. Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord." Col. 3:20-21 "Children, be obedient to your parents in all things, for this is well-pleasing to the Lord. Fathers, do not exasperate your children, so that they will not lose heart." If you're plugged into a good church, I'd recommend seeking the advice and counsel of a pastor or fellow believer to help you. Lastly, remember Phil. 4:6 "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God." I hope this helps, Bradk |

1487 | Praying in tongues | Rom 8:26 | BradK | 121691
8788, Yours is more of a statement about your prayer life than it is a question. Did you have a specific question about prayer or tongues? The Commentary Critical says this about Romans 8:26, "maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered—that is, which cannot be expressed in articulate language. Sublime and affecting ideas, for which we are indebted to this passage alone! “As we struggle to express in articulate language the desires of our hearts and find that our deepest emotions are the most inexpressible, we ‘groan’ under this felt inability. But not in vain are these groanings. For ‘the Spirit Himself’ is in them, giving to the emotions which He Himself has kindled the only language of which they are capable; so that though on our part they are the fruit of impotence to utter what we feel, they are at the same time the intercession of the Spirit Himself in our behalf." 1488 | Judged according to the measure of truth | Rom 2:12 | BradK | 121632
formereverything, Yes, your conclusion is on track. Verse 12 more fully explains the thought presented in the previous verses, that God is not a respecter of persons. Whether the Gentiles, who are not under the law, have sinned or the Jews, who are under the law, have sinned, the consequences are the same, both are condemned unto death (6:23). I hope this helps, Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

1489 | Can anyone explain? | 1 Cor 12:13 | BradK | 120476
WTB, It is clear from scripture that ALL believers are baptized by the Holy Spirit upon salvation, Eph. 1:13, 1 Cor. 12:13. I do not believe there is any warrant for a "second" filling. I am complete in Him according to Col. 2:10. Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

1490 | What are the devil's roads? | Eph 6:11 | BradK | 120433
Ray, Good to talk with you, Brother. I think it's a first:-) Here are some preliminary thoughts. The Greek word, methodeia, means to use craft or deceit of course. 1 John 2:16 comes to mind, "For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world." I hope this helps, BradK |

1491 | who can explain to me? | John 1:1 | BradK | 120203
eveready, "The Word was God" and "the Word was with God" are both from John 1:1 and are the correct translation of the Greek text by the Amplified and NASB. It shows forth the Diety of Christ, Who is the Word. Could you possibly be more specific with regard to your question? What bothers you about this? Let me know. BradK |

1492 | Righteousness of God? | 2 Cor 5:21 | BradK | 120127
Mommapbs, A good question and your observation is right on track! Check 1 Cor. 1:30-31 as a reference. We have no righteousness on our own, nor do we merit it apart from faith. We are imputed the righteousness of God- by faith. So, you are correct that our focus should be on "In Him". It's certainly "not of ourselves, lest we could boast" :-) Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

1493 | How did Judas die? | Matt 27:5 | BradK | 119919
sycreation, The account in Matt. 27:5 is correct. Judas hung himself. Acts 1:18 is really further descriptive of what happened. The NASB says"(Now this man acquired a field with the price of his wickedness, and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his intestines gushed out." The important thing to note is that the information in Acts supplements, but in no way contradicts what is said in Matt. 27:5. I hope this helps, BradK |

1495 | Isaac's age at sacrifice? | Heb 11:17 | BradK | 119911
Scott, Welcome to the Forum. As best as I can determine, scripture doesn't explicitly tell us Isaac's age when he was offered up. The relevant passages are Heb. 11:17 and Genesis 22:1-10. We can make an educated guess by looking at the timetables of his birth, marriage and Abrahams' cronology in scripture passages. We know he was circumcised after 8 days (Gen. 21:4), and that he was probably 40 when he marries Rebecca in Gen. 24. Most likely he was mid to late teens- but that is only a guess:-) Possibly some others can weigh in with better resources. Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

1496 | Romans 12:17 | Rom 12:1 | BradK | 119778
jessica, Welcome to the Forum! First, I don't think there is necessarily a "deep meaning" to this verse. We most definitely want to be careful about our actions, i.e. "how do others perceive what I'm doing?" What I would recommend (if you haven't done so) is to read the entire chapter of Romans 12 to get the context. Next, if you'll note, the paragraph begins in vs. 14 and carries through to the end of the chapter. Next, you might want to look at several different translations to get a sense for the verse: The NASB says:"Respect what is right in the sight of all men." The ASV says:"Take thought for things honorable in the sight of all men." The Amplified New Testament says: "but take thought for what is honest and proper and noble [aiming to be above reproach] in the sight of everyone. [Prov. 20:22]." I believe it would be "to God" as verse 19 summarizes. Also, 2 Cor. 8:21 is a good cross-reference to this. I hope this helps, BradK |

1497 | Can God Bless America? | Prov 14:34 | BradK | 119664
kalos, Yes, God can and has blessed America abundantly. Look at our standard of living compared to the rest of the world. I've pondered this considerably since 9/11 and my brief thoughts are this: Some in our Evangelical community have opined that we are being "judged" by God. I don't believe this, especially in light of John 5:22 "For not even the Father judges anyone, but He has given all judgment to the Son.." This judgement is to occur in the future (2. Cor. 5:10,Rev. 20:11ff). Despite out moral decline and many faults ,we still have freedoms beyond what most dream of. This is a major blessing! The many references in Proverbs speak multitudes to our spritual condition and moral turpitude of our leaders. Sin is sin, so I make no excuse for it from a national standpoint. However, from a comparative position, are we any worse than say, Russia or China, etc? Very little is mentioned of the systematic extermination of MILLIONS of their own people! I do see our country in rapid moral and cultural decline. To the best of my knowledge, the US does not enter in to prophecy- and I believe this due to our ceding of sovereingty to a World Gov't (UN). We will cease to exist as a nation in the future! Praise God that He has blessed US, with all the spiritual blessings in Christ! (Eph.1:3) Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

1498 | WHO WILL ENTER INTO THE KINGDOM? | Ex 12:1 | BradK | 119587
LORRAINBOW, Welcome to the Forum. As a friendly reminder, it is usually considered shouting to use all caps:-) As to your question, this was just recently asked- and debated to an extent! Though scripture is quite clear about this, not all see it so. For some background, look at Exodus 12: 1-3, 12-13, and 29-30. The passage explains the Passover instructions. The Lord instructs Moses and Aaron to "speak to all the congregation of Israel" (vs. 3) It appears ONLY the Israelites were told, not the Egyptians. In Verse 29 and 30, the Lord strikes the plague of death on ALL firstborn- "there was not a house in Egypt where there was not one dead" I believe God's reason is this: I will execute judgement: I am the Lord. Those receiving the plague of death, "had not heard". Similarly, in Romans 1, we have the pronouncement of mans' sinfulness. Note verses 19, 20, and 2:1. As Romans 11:13 and 17 say, "For 'whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall, be saved. So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |
