145 | More experienced translators needed... | 2 Pet 3:10 | Vamite | 242514
I agree, More experienced minds are required! And whilst usually i'd like to put it down to the expertise of those that have come before in this instance, for my learning and understanding I wish someone who understood translation could answer. These very experienced translators already disagree. I've read criticisms and arguments on this translation, in fact even looking at the amplified version it changes the 'earth' to the 'whole universe'. Looking at several other versions it says 'the works will be revealed or found out.' instead of burnt up. The only alteration I've made that doesn't already appear in english translations I've read is the 'Heavens will draw near' rather than pass away. See the word to pass away can mean to 'come to'. If you understand the earth and heavens to be destined for destruction and you felt the tone of peter's writings headed towards utter destruction then of course you'd say 'pass away' but if you understood the second coming as a 'On earth as it is in heaven' type scenario. then I argue you'd translate it suggesting that on his return 'the heavens will come here with a loud noise'. I'd love to have a critique of why these words have been rendered in this way rather than a blanket answer that says 'stop asking questions, they've already all been answered'. I'd prefer to learn from this exercise and improve my reading of new testament greek with constructive feedback, I will bow of course to the weight of history and academia, but please, help me learn. |

146 | A Question on Greek translation! | 2 Pet 3:10 | Vamite | 242512
Having studied the greek I rendered the verse like this: "But the Day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will draw near with a roar and the constituents [of everything] will be separated by fire and the earth and all the works in it will be found out." I rendered it this way with the wider theology of renewed heavens and earth in mind. It was a academic exercise of how would you render this verse if it was taken as red that the author believed there would be no destruction of the earth and the earth would be remade. Under these circumstances my translation shifts the meaning of the verse to be about the coming Judgement of God upon all the earth and the separation of the righteous and unjust. Which fits the wider context of the chapter. I am still learning translation, So my question is to you biblical scholars. what do you make of my translation? (NOT THE THEOLOGY). If you were to undergo the same exercise, how would you render the greek? |

147 | All sins pardoned, Mark 3;29 differs. | Mark 3:29 | Fred3 | 242510
The unforgivable sin described in the NT (Mark 3:29) All sinners are forgiven except for blaspheming against the Holy Spirit. Atheist in essence blaspheme by saying their is no God. It seems contradictory to the idea of Jesus dying on the cross for the forgiveness of ALL our sins. Please shed some light on this matter. |

150 | Wrong answers. | John 3:16 | Mac4Yuma | 242472
Bible Answer: Welcome to the Study Bible Forum Mac4 Yuma. Your question is a little bit different from any I have seem before. Why do you say that the Bible or more specifically the New Testament does not support that Jesus died for them? (meaning me and you) Just in the book of John chapter three there are many verses that support that we must believe in Jesus, and specifically verse 36 it refers to "the one" meaning us as each person. John 17:14-19 is another Scripture that might help as well. 1Co_15:17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. Jesus lived again for us He only died so that He could live again for us. One must open ones mouth to eat but opening ones mouth is not eating. All the words and deeds are in vain if He only died! do a search on died for us and also on the word Vain and keep in mind that we must not take thing out of context things like Jesus died for us. Your computer answers are very poor and such will mislead new Christians. A question why are you using a computer that has wrong answers on it? Mac. |

151 | How was Jesus saved? | John 3:16 | Mac4Yuma | 242469

152 | Most are Going to a Hell? | John 3:16 | Mac4Yuma | 242468
Bible Answer: We do not go to hell because we don't ask forgiveness for our many sins. Since Jesus' death and resurrection people go to hell because they don't believe on HIM. This has to be a computer made reply because when people die they are dead and do not exist other then the Spirit they were born with that returns to God. So Mr. computer you think that someone who knows nothing of God or does not believe in the Bible God they will go to a Hell??? How about babies they do not believe so they also will go to Hell??? Who programed you? God loves all humans even the bad ones and you say most are going to a Hell and never going to be Saints real Spirit Beings with Jesus the Christ. Mac. |

153 | Jesus is not dead and why are so wrong | John 3:16 | Mac4Yuma | 242450
My question was and still is "Why do most Christians say Jesus died for them when the bible does not support that statement." John 3:16 does not answer the question, Yes Jesus died for our sins but His death does not provide Salvation. We know about what His death means but why do most Christians say He died for them when if He is dead He can do nothing for us. To say "He died for us" therefore is not true yet most Christians keep saying a lie not knowing it is a lie. How come so may church leaders have not corrected what the many have been saying? Sorry but know I have two questions. Mac. |

154 | The Bible and YOU? | Bible general | justme | 242461
I have been interested in different Bibles sold in the US and the actual sales in numbers in the US. I went to CBA Retailers Resources and found the following information. Listed in order of the highest volume of number of sales first. Here are the top ten for the month of February 2014, the latest available information. 1. New International version 2. King James version 3. New King James Version 4. New Living Translation 5. English Standard version 6. Holman Christian Standard Bible 7. New International Readers Version 8. Reina Valera 1960 9. New American Standard Bible 10. Common English Bible. I found it interesting that the order of these Bible sales have stayed basically the same for the last three years. The Message used to be #10 and the N I Readers Version was not even listed in 2012. Here are my questions. Have you changes the version of the Bible you mainly use in the last three years? What Bible do you use mostly now? It has been said the Bible is one of the best selling books; but it is the least read. How often do you read your Bible? Thanks for your reply, and God Bless you. justme |
