141 | please explain proberbs 18:21 | Gen 1:1 | prayon | 145377
Greetings Hank, The other scripture I was looking for and could not find was Mark 11:23-24. I am curious to know if you think that I am way off base. prayon
142 | N.A. or not? | Mark 4:20 | prayon | 145376
Hi Angel, Very true but I didn't mean to 'preach' the name of Jesus at the meetings. What I was referring to give God the glory whenever possible. For instance "Hi my name is ---- and Thanks to God I am free from narcotics". or "Because of the strength God gave me I am free of narcotics" You are right - to just walk in and preach could lead to problems. prayon |

143 | Why was John baptizing Jesus? | Matt 3:15 | prayon | 145301
Greetings, Matt 3:14 tells us that John knew that Jesus was the son of God, "But John tried to stop him and said, "I need to be baptized by you. Why are you coming to me?". Jesus was baptized because He needed to be identified with sinnners. The act of baptism was a necessary part of the righteousness He secured for sinners. It also pictured His death and resurrection and therefore prefigured the significance of Christian baptism. McArthur Study Bible). prayon

147 | please explain proberbs 18:21 | Gen 1:1 | prayon | 145296
Greetings Hank, Boy do I feel like I opened the proverbial hornets nest! You are correct, it is not written in any certain verse. I think it is more of faith and may be considered a principle. For example, it you ask God to heal your body you don't keep saying "I'm soo sick" - you say I am healed in the name of Jesus. You speak those things that are not as if they were. In the case of the car, you can't make a car run by claiming it will but if you live by faith that it will, you will take better care of it and in the end it will last longer. You have the faith that God will provide what you are speaking in a matter of sense. Everything that happens is by God's command and God's will only, we ourselves can not change anything. It may be too that God will give us what we speak - for instance if we continually say that we are sick God may give us what we speak and we will become sick. Does this make it a little clearer what I meant to say? prayon |

148 | Do you think there are modern day prophe | Acts 2:17 | prayon | 145253
Greetings and welcome to the forum, Yes there are definitly modern prophets. Both Acts 2:17 and Joel 2:28 tell us that "Act 2:17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams". In addition, in the 24th chapter of Matthew Jesus tells us that false messiahs and false prophets will appear and will deceive many. All 3 of these verses ssure us that there are phophets today. prayon |

149 | why do we worship? | Josh 1:8 | prayon | 145241
Greetings, The answer to your question is because we love Him. We are also told in numerous scriptures: Luk 4:8 Jesus answered him, "Scripture says, 'Worship the Lord your God and serve only him.'" Deu 13:4: Worship the LORD your God, fear him, obey his commands, listen to what he says, serve him, and be loyal to him. prayon Psa 29:2 Give to the LORD the glory his name deserves. Worship the LORD in his holy splendor. Mat 4:10 Jesus said to him, "Go away, Satan! Scripture says, 'Worship the Lord your God and serve only him.'" prayon |

150 | N.A. or not? | Mark 4:20 | prayon | 145240
Hi Angel, Why not bring Jesus name into the meeting? One should testify of the power of Jesus and His mercy whenever and wherever the opportunity arises. In testifying about God's goodness or allowing our light to shine (and not hide it under a bushel as the song goes) one never knows who will be led to Christ. prayon
151 | please explain proberbs 18:21 | Gen 1:1 | prayon | 145238
Greetings, I just wanted to add one thing to searchers reply. In addition to what he said you can also speak negative things into your life. For example if you continuously say can my car is old and about to break down then pretty soon your car will break down because you have spoken it into existance. But if you say my car is old but it has a lot longer before it is going to stop running, you will be amazed how long that car will last. prayon
152 | Spirit Baptism | Acts 8:12 | prayon | 145237
Greetings, I really worded that wrong, sorry. Yes they are 2 different things. When you are saved you give the Holy Ghost the ability to enter. For example, suppose you just bought a house and it did not have any electricity yet. You call the power company to turn it on. They send a member of the power company to turn it on for you. You have given them permission to come, but until you invite him into your house to turn the power on you do not have the power. Once you invite him in he is able to turn the power on. It is the same with the Holy Spirit. Once you have asked God for salvation the Holy Spirit has the right to come to the "door of your life' and knock, but until you invite Him iyou do not have His power. But once you invite Him and He enters you do not have the access to His power. I hope this make more sense. prayon I hope that makes it a little clearer. prayon |

153 | Spirit Baptism | Acts 8:12 | prayon | 145230
Greetings Iktoose, Being baptized with the Spirit is like water baptism. You only need to be baptized once. After that the Spirit is active within you and you will experience the Holy Spirit working within you over and over. He can show Himself in many different ways. Sometimes I can be praising God in a room where it is extremely hot and I will start getting 'chill bumps' that start at the top of my head and go to the bottom of my feet over and over. Sometimes it will be by speaking in tongues. All of a sudden words will start coming out of my mouth and I have no idea of what I am saying or the meaning. Sometimes it is by feeling an overwhelming alarm that I shouldn't do something I am about to do like drive down a certain street. Sometimes I will get an urgent need to prayer for someone. When you are ask Christ to come into your life and you are 'saved' you receive the Holy Spirit. When you are baptized in the Spirit it is as if you give Him the permission or ability to totally take control of your life. I hope this makes sense. Feel free to ask me any questions. prayon |

155 | Number of Prophesies in the Bible? | Bible general Archive 2 | prayon | 145089

157 | Spirit Baptism | Acts 8:12 | prayon | 145083
Greetings, I don't know if recommended is the word - I think maybe choice is a better word. Each believer has a choice to accept the gift of God or say no to it. I personally think that all believers should ask God for it. Why would any one not want what God is offering to them? And why would someone want to have only "a piece of the pie when they can have the whole thing". I have known people who were "baptized" with the Holy Spirit by the laying on of hands and I know people who were baptized through just prayer. The gift is just as available now as it was then. God is the same today, as He was yesterday. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is when you truly become filled with the Spirit. Please feel free to ask any questions you have. prayon |

158 | Spirit Baptism | Acts 8:12 | prayon | 145082

160 | Why Phillip not lay hand Samaritans? | Acts 8:12 | prayon | 145009
Greetings, Yes the baptism of the Holy Spirit is different from receiving salvation. When you are baptized with the Holy Spirit you receive the power of the Holy Spirit (Act 1:8). Power is transated 'dunamis' in Greek which means strength power, ability. So being baptized with the Spirit gives the believer a power or ability that he did not have before. This power ia a gift from God (Luke 11:13; Acts 8:20) and is available to ALL believers who ask for it. It is used in all sorts of ways - for furthering the gospel (Acts 1:8), for prayer (Rom 8:26), for comfort (Acts 9:31), ability to speak what needs to be heard (Luke 12:12), helper (John 14:26), to speak in tongues (Acts 2:4), and joy (Rom 14:17). Peter was an evangelist. He hasd the gift of healings and working of miracles. As to why he didn't lay his hands on them John Gills Exposition of the bible puts it this way "Philip; who though he had these gifts, yet had not a power to lay on hands, and thereby convey them unto others; he perceived that this was purely apostolical". Hope this gives you a better understanding. If you have more questions feel free to ask. prayon |
