141 | How many animals will fulfill Zech 9:9? | Zech 9:9 | greentwiga | 140903
Each Gospel adds details that another tought unimportant for that purpose. There were two animals, the mother donkey and the male (colt not filly). The colt, being unridden was the important one, so all mention it. Only for Matthew, wtiting for Jews was the exact fulfillment necessary. It might have been for practical reasons also. The colt might have been young enough that it would only go if its mother was leading. Therefore, Zech seems to refer to two animals.
142 | what does the bible say about divorce | Mal 2:16 | greentwiga | 140900
The rituals performed at a wedding vary according to the customs. Gen 29:22 shows an elaborate wedding. Gen 24:67 shows a marriage with no ceremony. Matt 22 and Matt 25 show different aspects of the 1st century marriage ceremony. God seems to allow all sorts of ceremonies. As for divorce, Pastor Glenn answered well. I might add 1 Cor 7. Three things free a person from a marriage, the death of the spouse, adultery, and an unbelieving spouse leaving. God does also allow for dangerous circumstances. 1 Cor 7:10 allows a person to leave when the other is violent, etc. In this case one must remain single or be reconciled. I went through this and it was a battle to accept staying single, but God is greater. Greentwiga |

143 | Why God allows such tragedy | Bible general Archive 2 | greentwiga | 140897
Good question. Complex answer. Though God is in ultimate control, he gave man control of the Earth. We chose to obey Satan. Satan has become lord of this world. He rules by fear, greed, terror, pain. What part of this is due to him? Much. God weeps at this corruption of his creation. If God were to reveal himself to the world, all the unsaved would perish. He has a plan. He is patient so more will be saved. In the meantime, the war wages and many are lost. In revelations, 1/3 of the world will die, a much worse tragedy. The question is not how can God allow this, but how long can the world continue to reject the loving God and seek the pleasures and greed of sin and Satan's way. This points to the need to send out many more missionaries. Greentwiga |

144 | Does the Bible refer to the earth being | Bible general Archive 2 | greentwiga | 140894
yes. look at Heb 12:26. It quotes Hag 2:6-7. Other related verses are Job 9:5-10, Ezek 38:19, Isa 2:21, Isa 13:13 (very good one), Isa 24:18-20, 2 Sam 22:8, Job 26:11-12, ps 75:3 and Hab 3:6-10. Several verses include a tsunami like effect. A good study Bible might find a few more verses.
145 | Who is God Talking to in verse 26? | Genesis | greentwiga | 140877
There is an ancient theological idea about the power of the word of God. It is rather foreign to us today. The concept was that when God spoke, his word made it happen. One concept was that the writer was saying that God spoke and it happened. Many people now discuss the "Let us" statement as referring to the trinity. Some would say they in some manner discussed the creation. Reality is far more complex than we can understand, but all these ideas can be true. See Heb 4:12, John 1, Isa 55:11
146 | The Book of Lamentations | Lamentations | greentwiga | 140875
Lamantations is a book written by Jeremiah. He has been watching the nation disobey God, fall apart and finally get hauled off into slavery. He is lamenting the destruction. There are 5 laments. They are written in formal Hebrew poetic style. It is hard to read a book of such sadness. If you wanted a comment on the Broderick book, make that clear. Greentwiga |

Very well put. I was looking at your kind comment earlier about dating, and thought about the date for Abraham. Realized it is based on 966 BC for Solomon, which is based on outside sources for the Mede and Persian Kings. Greentwiga |

EdB Thanks for the encouragement. I believe in changing my theology to fir the scriptures, not changing scriptures to fit my theology. In this case, Glenn referred me to a site that listed the oldest known copy of Luke. It omitted Cainan, which strengthened his point. All the external evidence seems to point to Noah's flood happening right near 3000 BC, but I must consider the Bible pointing to either this time or to the 2200 BC/2400 BC time pointed to by the interpretation omitting Cainan. Your site shows that the p75 copy of Luke, the oldest known copy also omits Cainan. This is even better evidence than that of the LXX. Thanks for the info. Greentwiga |

I prefer to believe that we have at least one extant manuscript with the right original words. Is there any ancient manuscripts that leave out the name Canain? Otherwise I must conclude that God deliberately included the name in Luke. Once we start assuming there are errors in all extant manuscripts, we have started down a slippery slope. Greentwiga |

151 | Romans 2:14-15 commonly mutilated? | 1 Cor 2:14 | greentwiga | 140811
True, you are following the general context and getting to the final argument. I was following the specific context. Just looking at the general context leaves one with two contridictory ideas on salvation. I was just supplementing your arguments on Rom 6-8 and 12-15 with Rom 3. This leaves us with just the one way of salvation. In Rom 2-3 Paul mentions the phrase, "I am just using a human argument" which might be also applicable for much of Rom 2. Keep preaching the Gospel. It is the only way to God. Greentwiga |

152 | Romans 2:14-15 commonly mutilated? | 1 Cor 2:14 | greentwiga | 140717
Dear Reighnskye I prefer to keep Rom 2 in context. The closest context is Rom 3. Rom 2 then seems like a straw dog of Paul's. Paul theorizes that All who obey the law will be saved. Rom 2:10,13,16. In that passage, he talks of the theoretical Gentile that obeys the law written on his heart. Then in Rom 3:9 he begins. All are under sin. There is not one righteous. 20 no one will be declared righteous by observing the law. 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. I believe that Paul is showing God to be righteous by showing that everyone equally had the chance to be saved by obeying the law revealed to them and all equally failed. Therefore, we all need the grace offered because Jesus died on the cross, and we need to send missionaries to the whole world. Yes, those who take Rom 2 out of context preach a salvation by works. 153 | Did Shem exit the Ark at 98, outlv Abrm? | Gen 11:10 | greentwiga | 140695
That is interesting. I have studied Noah extensively, yet there is always something more to glean from scriptures. Luke does indicate that at least one name was left out of the geneology in Genesis (and in Chronicles). This is despite how Genesis makes it look like no names were left out. Greentwiga |

Dear Pastor Glenn; Look in Matthew 1. Between Uzziah and Jotham, in II Kings 11-15 and II Chron 22-27, there was Ahaziah, Joash, Amaziah, Azariah (Uzziah) and Jotham. The only one mentioned is Uzziah. Also missing is Jehoaikim. Now Joash, Amaziah and Jotham all were said to do right. Some much more wicked kings are kept in. Still, I acknowledge that the mention of ate age of birth makes it more unlikely that people were dropped out. I am willing to question interpretations, but I will not question the word. That is why I consider the possibility. What does bother me is people who try to make the flood the Black Sea Catastrophe. That requires ignoring parts of the story. Whether Abraham heard it directly or through many generations doesn't matter. Each and every word is true, Just as is the much more ancient story of Adam and Eve. What is really important about the Story of Noah is why He destroyed the world, Wickedness (covenant with spouse breaking), Evil (covenant with God breaking), corruption (bribes), and violence (war). This condemns our generation also. Jesus has every reason to return soon and end this system, for we are no better. You are right, whether some were left out of the geneology or not could get into violating Titus 3:9 Greentwiga |

155 | Hear Thou...heaven. Hear Thy people | 2 Chr 6:24 | greentwiga | 140623
In researching the Gospel, it was evident that there were several components of both salvation and renewal. When God convicts you, you must turn. You must turn from you wicked way, and you must turn, not to some other god, but to the only true God. Confession of sins does no good if one confesses to Krishna. When we repent (turn) and confess to God through Jesus, does he forgive us and restore us. Greentwiga |

156 | Did Shem exit the Ark at 98, outlv Abrm? | Gen 11:10 | greentwiga | 140621
One has to be careful when analyzing a geneology. A variety of geneologies in the Bible get compressed. The geneology of David only lists three people for a fou hundred year period. The geneology of Jesus drops out known names. This was fine in the writers eyes. The term father could mean grandfather, great grandfather, etc. It was also used for other purposes. It was used for the master apprentice relationship as in Gen 4:19-21. Father was also used for the founders of a town or country. Thus it could mean what you said, or the flood could have happened hundreds of years earlier than it seems. each word is true, but our interpretations are not always accurate. Greentwiga |

157 | Marriage- Two are better | Eccl 4:9 | greentwiga | 140618
There are components of friendship, reletives and marriage in the whole passage. Though it can be used for marriage, the passage focuses on the strength of family and friendship rather than selfish grubbing after wealth. Ecclestiastes is a complex argument against all the standard sources of meaning in life. It leads one to God, He is the only source of meaning. In chapter 4 he is destroying the seeking after wealth type of meaning. Greentwiga
158 | Trinity | NT general Archive 1 | greentwiga | 140597
I have heard some good analogies. If I were an ant, how could I explain to another ant what it meant to be a human. How can you or I comprehend what God is like. So much seems contridictory. 1 Cor 2:10-16. Think of God like a tree. The Father is the roots. Jesus is the trunk, the only visible part. The spirit is like the sap, coming from the father, through the son to the branches which are us. When we are attached to Jesus, the spirit causes us to bear much fruit. John 15, Rom 11. Yet, how can they be three distinct personalities? They are, and yet one. Greentwiga |

159 | Jeus birth | Bible general Archive 2 | greentwiga | 140299
We have gotten so much of Jesus birth wrong. He was born in 6BC. (census) He was born in spring/summer (shephards with the flock at night not in late fall/winter) There are no animals mentioned in the stable. (cleaned out to rent?) The wise men (does not say three) visited Jesus when he was 1 year old (in a house, not the stable, Herod ascertained the age) Never-the-less, it is a great time to celebrate when Jesus came to earth to die on the cross. The date does not matter.
160 | explain the trinity | Bible general Archive 2 | greentwiga | 140295
How can one even explain string theory in the Cosmos completely. If that gives us problems, how about the far more difficult concept of God? Instead God gives us Parables to understand. Look at John 15. Look at Rom 11:17-21. I have a parable from these. Roots, and olive trunk and sap look totally unlike each other. All three separate, yet one. God is the roots, the source of All. Jesus is the trunk, the only visible part to which we are all connected. only through staying connected to Jesus can we receive the nourishing sap, the Holy Spirit. This is not complete, because God is also the tree keeper who prunes branches. Still, the illustration is there in scripture to help us understand three yet one. There is no place in scripture that "trinity" is mentioned, but John 15 calls the Holy Spirit He. Greentwiga |
