142 | Banker are sinner or not | Deut 23:20 | Val | 214654
Notice in the next verse He says to charge interest to the foreigner. We must remember that Deuteronomy was written by Moses instructing him and the people of God, Israel, how to treat one another. They had just come out of Egypt and were going into the promised land. This law was for a specific nation at a particular time in history. In it we see the holiness of God and how he wants us to treat one another. To apply that to a modern situation I would personally consider the fair market value, what other banks are charging and through prayer and further study of God's word. You must be guided by the Holy Spirit within you as to what would be fair. A good rule of thumb is do unto others as you would have them do unto you. We live in a different time period under different government so we obey our government. Charging interest is a necessary component of business. Striking a balance I believe is key. You are in essence looking out for the good of both the customer and at the same time the business. Deut 23:20 "You may charge interest to a foreigner, but to your countrymen you shall not charge interest, so that the LORD your God may bless you in all that you undertake in the land which you are about to enter to possess. Hope this helps, Sincerely, Val

146 | Rahab righteous or not? | Josh 2:4 | Val | 214634
Dear Humility: Here are some facts about Rahab the harlot that I hope might help; One, Rahab trusted God Two, Rahab was a resident of Jericho Three, Rahab’s faith spared her and her family from death Four, Rahab did not perish with the disobedient Five, Rahab had faith in God and found approval by Him because of it Six, The two spies went to the house of a harlot in Jericho, Rahab Seven, In almost every passage about her she is referred to as Rahab the harlot, yet she was the great-great grandmother of King David and in the line of Christ. Eight, She had heard about the Lord and the great things He had done and realized Who He is – the God in heaven above and on earth beneath. Nine, She was justified by her works of faith; she hid the spies and asked to be spared when God gave them the victory over Jericho. Ten, Perhaps the reason she is called Rahab the harlot is to remind all who read about her that there is none so defiled that they cannot come to faith in the Lord. Eleven, The scripture does not condone her lying, ONLY the fact that she hid the spies. Twelve, She was a pagan living in a society that DID NOT have the laws of God. Thirteen, The people of Jericho still remember what they had heard about the Lord drying up the Red Sea when He led Israel out of Egypt forty years previous. Fourteen, they had also heard what Israel had done to the two Amorite kings on the other side of the Jordan, very recently at that point in time. Fifteen, Their hearts had melted, and no courage remained in any man because of Israel, actually because of the God of Israel; that was the report of the two spies when they returned to Joshua. Sixteen, Rahab had secured a pledge of safety for herself and her father’s household before the spies left her. Seventeen, Rahab told them what to do to return safely to the camp of Israel. Eighteen, Rahab tied the scarlet cord in the window of her house on the wall as soon as they left, even though she knew the defeat of Jericho would not be for at least 3 more days. Nineteen, Rahab knew that Jericho would fall to Israel, and she did not perish with the disobedient. Twenty, Rahab knew of the Lord because she heard about what He had done. Sincerely, Val |

149 | Moabites forbidden and Ruth allowed?? | Deut 23:3 | Val | 214581
Ruth was an exceptional woman. If you read the book of Ruth you will see this in the way she took care of her mother in law. Her mother in law was in a very bad mood after her sons died. It was Ruth who kept the family together. Boaz was the lucky one. He was a lot older than Ruth. Boaz praised Ruth for her behavior in not running after young men. Once Ruth and her mother in law returned to the homeland Ruth was the one who went out and searched for food. They were dirt poor. Ruth took instructions from her mother in law and did everything she told her. Boaz took note of this and being the kinsman redeemer he is an example of how Christ Jesus is the kinsman redeemer also for the Gentiles. Because a gentile is in the line of Christ. 150 | baptism | Matt 28:19 | Val | 214570
Dear Raymie, I disagree with your conclusion that the soul sleeps until the resurrection from the dead. First of all who is it that Christ brings with Him when He comes back at the second advent. It is those who are In Him. Secondly, how do you explain the Mount of Transfiguration in which Moses and Elijah met and talked with Christ Jesus. Third, why does the Apostle Paul who was called to be an Apostle by God preach that it is better for him to go on to heaven but it is better for those whom he serves if he stayed on earth. Fourth, why does David say of his son who died that his son could not come back to him but that he David could go to his son. Its a stretch to say they were looking forward to sleeping for thousands of years. You discount what the churches teach, what denomination do you affiliate with? Sincerely, Val |

151 | Why was being born a Jew so important? | Bible general Archive 4 | Val | 214383
Dear Humility, this question reminds me of why it is important to read the whole counsel of scriputure. In Genesis you will find the redemption plan of God. Be sure and mark all the references to Abraham, who he was, where he was and what was promised him. As you read through the entire counsel of God you will see this redemption plan unfold. If you desire their is a precept upon precept bible study called Covenant which may be purchased at Precept.org. This study pulls the whole scripture together. Sincerely, Val
152 | can Satan plant thoughts into our minds? | 1 Pet 5:8 | Val | 214333
Hi Brother John, I was careful in answering the question. I have dealt with this question before and spent the time looking studying it. Thank you for your concern. A word study of Satan, one of the mind/heart and others of course can be done by anyone wanting to pursue the topic. I believe the verse I quoted speaks for itself and anyone can study it for themselves. Thank you for your concern. Have a great day. God Bless. Val
153 | can Satan plant thoughts into our minds? | 1 Pet 5:8 | Val | 214325
Yes. The word heart and mind can be used interchangeably in this verse. In Acts 5:3 we are told that Satan filled Ananias mind to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back some of the price of the land. We do not know how these thoughts, we could also call them suggestions, get from Satan into our minds but we know that they do. This is why Paul states in 2 Corinthians 10:5 to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. Evil thoughts can also come from our own fleshly desires. Sincerely, Val |

154 | OT says Altar of Insence is outside viel | Heb 9:2 | Val | 214285
Welcome Roberta, M. C. Tenney addressed this in The Zondervan Pictorial Encyclopedia of the Bible - The position of this altar in the Tabernacle seems to have been within the inner sanctuary just before the Ark of the covenant, Exod 40:5; Lev 16:11-14, on which the high priest sprinkled the blood of atonement once a year, Exodus 30:10. The golden altar of Solomon's temple was placed in the inner sancturay, 1 Kings 6:20,22, but in the third Temple it seems to have been outside the veil within the Holy Place, Luke 1:10. Revelation speaks of an altar of incense that stood before the throne of God, Rev 8:3. The reference to the golden altar in Hebrews 9:3 agrees that it was within the inner sanctuary. The apparent conflict between Exodus 30:6 and 40:26 and the other passages which locate it beyond the veil has been given different solutions. Snaith, Leviticus and Numbers, p.43, suggests that the original text was modified to suit the arrangement of the second and third Temples, and that there was no altar of incense in the Tablernacle. He follows Wellhausen's argument that two separate sources are responsible for the difference. In the light of the fact that small incense altars were used by the Canaanites from the earliest times in Pal., it is hardly possible that such were unknown, or that an altar of incense could not have been part of the furniture of the Tabernacle. The apparent discrepancy in the location of the golden altar may arise from differing usages between the Tabernacle and the Temple, or from the fact that it stood so close to the Ark that it was classed with the Holy of Holies because it represented an intercessory ministry in the presence of God. One Jewish source suggests that Exodus 25:1 through 27:19 is the blueprint for the construction of the Tabernacle, while Exodus 40:1-33 describes the actual assembling of the building and consequently a modification of position. - M.C. Tenney Hope this helps, Val |

156 | A answer cut short? | Ezek 16:53 | Val | 214214
Yes I did read it and its context and looked for commentaries on it. I am wondering if Sodom stands for the southern kingdom. I don't know for sure and didn't immediately find anything on it. That is why I suggested a word study on Sodom. I believe you are talking about the city that was destroyed with fire. If you will note my first answer I said the 1,000 year reign will be "centered" in Jerusalem. I agree Christ will rule over all but his rule will center in Jerusalem. The nations will come up to Him there. I didn't say He wouldn't rule the whole world. I do study the whole bible and have studied both Revelation and the Kings and Prophets. I am thinking Sodom will never be restored until the New Heaven and New Earth. Maybe someone else has a better answer for you. The regulars who read this forum usually read through the threads so the question is not cut off. They will add to the thread if they want to. A word study will tell you if God says Sodom, the geographical city will ever be restored. Word studies are good things and I think it will require further research which I believe you can do on your own. If it is figurative language referring the the southern kingdom which had divided after Solomon then I think it is talking about the people. Since it says I will restore them from their captivity I am thinking it is talking about the people returning to the land. Maybe someone else on the forum has some insight for you. Sincerely, Val |

157 | Blessed is the man who does not fall ... | Luke 7:22 | Val | 214204
Jesus was the Messiah. All who believe in Him have everlasting life. All who do not believe in Him die in their sins. Luke 7:22 And He answered and said to them, "Go and report to John what you have seen and heard: the BLIND RECEIVE SIGHT, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, the POOR HAVE THE GOSPEL PREACHED TO THEM. 159 | Will Sodom be rebuilt in the future? | Ezek 16:53 | Val | 214200
The 1000 year reign is centered around Jerusalem. You might do a word study on Sodom. The Ezekiel passages does not seem to address this question. Sincerely, Val
