141 | verses for dif. degrees of sins | Rom 3:9 | Robert Nicholson | 67357
finalife: Romans 3:9-18 gives us a picture of the human heart. In verse 19 we find that because of our sin the whole "world is guilty before God and that there is nothing that sinful man can do to change his state. In Romans 5:8 we have the good news "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" Peace in his name Robert |

142 | What is the people sin? | NT general Archive 1 | Robert Nicholson | 67355
Confusing: I will try to address some of your questions. quote ." No one MADE Adam and Eve sin. Nor are we victims when we sin. We sin because we want to sin." They can sin because they are been created if not they cannot so again no one will suffer here and in hell" ---------------------------------------- Answer I agree that sin came into the world by disobedience by Adam and Eve. "Wherefore as by one man sin entered the world, and death by sin; and so death was passed upon all men, for all have sinned" Romans 5:12 ------------------------------------- quote 2. If the way to stay out of hell is by following God's commandments, then we are all going to hell (Romans 3:23). That is why i find that I am a victim, being born is not man choice, but if the man born he already a victim of battle of God and satan. " ---------------------------------------- Answer You are right on the first point. According to Romans 3 there is absolutely nothing which we can do to save ourselves "because all have sinned and have come short of the glory of God" Rom. 3:23 We cannot help how we were born. However, we are not victoms, we are sinners by birth, sinners by practice and sinners by choice. Romans 3:10-18 If it were not for the grace of God we would continue in this journey away from him. However, in his love toward us he strives with us by his Spirit drawing us to Christ. ----------------------------------------- quote: "But our God is in the heavens; He does whatever He pleases." --Psalm 115:3 It is likely that God pleases with the outcome of His creation? Too many die in wars, sickness shortage of food is He very happy of what the world today? "Whatever the LORD pleases, He does, In heaven and in earth, in the seas and in all deeps." --Psalm 135:6 He pleases with the suffering here and there, killing rape, extortion and other form of evil that we have now all over the world? -------------------------------- Answer: You are right that God does as he pleases as your verses show. He is Sovereign, he is our creator, he does not owes anything. Yet in his grace and love he has provided a way through Christ that we can be redeemed. God has no pleasure in the death of the wicked, he tells us "Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?" In other words he is pleading with sinners to turn from their wicked ways and live. It is sinners who commit sins, God is not the author of the terrible things which happen on this earth. It is people who turn from God and committ such deeds and mankind reaps the consequences of their deeds. "The way of the transgressor is hard" (Proverbs 13:15) Think of the Lord Jesus in his day as he stood weeping as he looked over the city and lamented that "they had missed their time of visition" --------------------------------------- quote: The good news is that the God who judges us guilty is also the God who was pleased to send His Son Jesus Christ to live the perfect life that we do not live, to pay the penalty of the sin of all those who trust in Him by means of His death on the Cross, and to rise again to demonstrate that that penalty is paid and that all Christians, like Christ himself, will be raised to newness of life. God did this because he created man, I think it His responsibilities to save His creation and besides it is all His ideas to create. -------------------------------------------- Answer: It is wonderful that God saw this world in its fallen condition even before the world was made and made a way of redemption through the sacrifice of his Son. God did not owe us anything, this is an important point. We had no claims on God. As humans we made a choice. However, this high lights the grace of God toward us, that even when we were unloveable, enemies because of wicked works, God in his love and mercey sent his Son into this world to save sinners. He loved us not because he owed us, but simply because he loved us. Peace in his Name Robert |

143 | what about Matt. 16:27 | Matt 16:28 | Robert Nicholson | 67350
Greetings mommapbs: I believe that verse 27 of Matt. 17 is speaking as has been mentioned when Christ comes in glory and power as in 2 Thess. 1: 7-9 where it speaks of Christ coming in judgment against those who have disobeyed the gospel and in v. 10 "When he shall come to be glorified in his saints and to be admired in all them that believe" He is coming as promised in Acts 1 and this same glorified Jesus Christ, his feet will rest again on the mount of olives from whence he left. However, in verse 28 "...there be some standing here which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom" I believe speaks of Peter, James and John in chp 17 where they saw his coming glory in miniture during his transfiguration. John later writes "...and we beheld his glory, the glory of the only begotten of the father full of grace and truth" (John 1:14) I think that John is referring to that day when he along with Peter and James had the joy of seeing the Lord Jesus when "he was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as light" Matt. 17:2 God bless Robert |

144 | Take Up Our Cross: What does it mean? | Luke 9:23 | Robert Nicholson | 67231
Dear One: Thank you for your response. In following Jesus we are exhorted "In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." ( 1 Thess. 5:18) Would you not say that we have to be willing to accept what God has given us which may include various trials in live? Paul writes: "There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it."(1 Cor. 10:13) You mentioned that "we must take up our cross" and that part of this is to deny ourselves. I enjoy the thought in Romans 6:17-18 that before we were saved we were "servants to sin" and now in Christ we are freed from sin and "became servants of righteousness" I was also thinking that "when we follow him" we have to ask the question "In a spiritual sense where is he"? In Hebrews we find a similar thought "Let us go therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach" Heb.13:13 The Lord Jesus Christ as far as this world is concerned is still in a place of rejection and to identify with him we will suffer reproach for his name. When I read your last paragraph the words of Jesus came to mind "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." (Matt.6:33) May God bless you and your daughter in your work with children. Robert |

145 | absentfrombodyisto be present with Lord | 2 Cor 5:8 | Robert Nicholson | 67220
Dear brother/sister Wordnut: This wonderful truth is taught in 2 Cor. 5: 1-9 Paul also discusses his yearning to be with Christ in Philippians 1:23 I love the words of the KJV "For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:" We see hear that the faithful servant of the Lord desires to "be with Christ which is far better" However, in verse 24 he realizes that his responsiblity and work on earth are not yet finished. The confidence which Paul had is inspiring. Near the end of his life he writes: " I know in whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed to him against that day" 2 Tim. 1:12 His words are especially touching in 2 Tim. 4:6-7 "For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith" Thank God for our sure hope Robert |

146 | Take Up Our Cross: What does it mean? | Luke 9:23 | Robert Nicholson | 67218
Dear fellow believers: What does it mean to "take up our cross daily and follow Christ?" What is our cross? Jesus said in John chp. 10 " My sheep hear my voice and I know them , and they follow me" (John 10::27) What a beautiful picture of the Christian who has entered by the door which is Christ who said "I am the door by me if any man enter in he shall be saved" (John 10:9) The characteristics of those who know him as Saviour are a) they hear his voice b) He knows them. c) They follow him What does this really mean? "They follow him?" If we follow him we will deny ourselves and take up our cross daily and follow him" (Luke 9:23) "we hear his voice" Thank God that by his Spirit and through his word he spoke to us when we were lost in sin and he revealled to us that "Christ died for our sins!" I challenge myself, do I hear his voice daily? Do I respond to his voice? Some have suggested that the cares of life and the trials that comes into our life are our cross. I wonder if this is what it means? The Lord Jesus tells us "for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust." (Matt.5:45) In other words many things in life which are challenging are experienced by the all people, not just Christians. The imagery that Jesus is using here refers to those who would be crucified by the Romans. The soldiers would make you drag your cross to the place of death, it was a one way trip. How does this apply to Christian life in a spiritual sense and in a practical sense in our daily lives. These questions are not intended to rhetorical questions, but questions which have been challenging me. "Forbid it Lord that I should boast, Save in the cross of Christ, my God; All the vain things that charm me most, I sacrifice them to his blood. Were the whole realm of nature mine, That were an offering far too small; Love so amazing so divine, Demands my heart, my life, my all! (Isaac Watts 1674-1748) Blessings in his precious name Robert |

147 | Can we loose our salvation | Bible general Archive 1 | Robert Nicholson | 67086
New creature: I would like to look at one of your references from Mark 4 "The Parable of the Sower" Jesus interprets the parable. He tell us that the seed is the word or in today's terms the gospel message. The Lord points out that there are four types of ground which represent four groups of people who hear the gospel and he gives us the response of each. Mark 4:4, 15 #1 The way side or the path. The seed falls on the hardened path and is quickly taken away by Satan. The seed does not have a chance to take root because the ground is not prepared. Mark 4:5-6, 16-17 #2 The stoney ground: Stoney ground has some loose soil among the rocks. The seed falls on the stoney ground and begins to grow quickly. This growth is shallow and is not rooted deep in the ground. Jesus these "hear the word and receive it with gladness" The problem here is with the root, the ground has not been prepared for growth Such a shallow reception can not stand the sun or persecution and the plant withers because it is not deeply rooted. I believe that there are people who reach out quickly and profess to be Christians and yet it has not been a work of the Spirit of God. Mark 4: 7, 18-19 #3 The ground among the thorns. The seed falls on the ground, but is choked out before growth can take place. Jesus tells us that the thorns represent a) deceitfulness of riches b) lusts or desires of other things take priority over the word. This type of person who would agree that the gospel is a wonderful message and some day they intend to accept it, but at the moment they have other things which are more important. Again the seed does not take root. The ground is unprepared, the thorns must be removed before the seed could ever take root. Mark 20: 8, 20 #4 The good ground. This is ground which has been prepared. In other words the Holy Spirit has worked within the heart, the heart is not hard, or shallow, or preoccuppied with other things, but is ready for the good seed of the word of God. "They hear, and receive it and bring forth fruit"v.20 I believe that the first three types of ground represents people who have heard the gospel and are not saved. This is evident in that there is absolutely no fruit which would prove that the word is deeply rooted in their heart. Paul writes "I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase." 1 Cor. 3:6 It is God who prepares our hearts and it is God who reveals to us the truth of the gospel. In John 5:24 Jesus "Truly Truly, I say unto you, he that heareth my word and believeth him that sent, shall not come into condemnation, but is passed from death unto life". Peace to you in his precious name Robert |

148 | Why does God kill and innocent child? | 2 Sam 12:15 | Robert Nicholson | 67040
Greetings cevw: This is a very tough question. Why is a question which we often ponder and in some cases we may have to wait for eternity to understand. God is love and cares for each precious soul which comes into this world. God is also Holy and he will judge sin. An example of this is seen at Calvary. We could ask "Why did Jesus die?" And yet it has been said that in the death of Christ on the cross, that Calvary is where God's love and justice met. In the case of David's son we know from 2 Samuel 12:14 that it was the result of David's sin that the child died. Why did the Lord take this child away? We do not know the future and what this child may have been preserved from. In V.23 David states "...I shall go to him, but he will not return to me" David knew that the child was safe in God's care and that one day he too would die and be with the child again. Our breath is in God's hand. Sadly, even in our world today we see the results of sin on children born. Due to humankind's selfish greed, sinful lifestyle and evil power, thousands of children die each day through no fault of their own. Our heavenly Father who sees the sparrow fall cares for each one. 149 | I leviathen in Job 41 satan? | Job 41:1 | Robert Nicholson | 67029
JA03 In Job 40 and 41 God is pointing out to job 2 animals which he cannot master. How much more should he be humbled before his Creator. I believe that these are literal animals in 40:15 the behemoth is likely a hippopotamus and the leviathan a crocadile. Both animals are observable to Job. I have always enjoyed this decription and have observed such creatures in South America. His strength is awsome, he cannot be tamed and deceptively wise. In Chapeter 43 we see that Job is submissive to God. Robert |

151 | Can we loose our salvation | Bible general Archive 1 | Robert Nicholson | 67014
You ask a very important question. My response is not intended to start an argument, but rather to highlight what the scriptures say. Jesus asked this question "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" (Mark 8:36) Is it possible to know that we have eternal life? John writes "These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; tha you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may believe on the name of the Son of God" (1 John 4:13) God wants us to know that we have eternal life and this assurance grows as we walk by faith in him day by day. What is Salvation? We are born sinners Rom. 3:23 and we can never merit favor with God by our own works Rom: 3:20 Our salvation or deliverance from sin is only brought about by faith in what Christ has already done on the cross. We who are found guilty and deserved to be banished from God forever and are cleared of all guilt by faith in Christ "Being Justified (cleared of all guilt) freely by his grace through redemption that is in Christ Jesus" (Rom. 3:24, Rom. 5:1) What happens when we are saved? The moment a lost sinner feels their awful need and rests by faith in the work of Christ alone they are "born from above" (John 3:6)or born of the Spirit of God and are made new creatures in Christ (2 Cor. 5:7) and is a child of God. (John 1:12) Paul shows us the contrast: "But God be thanked, that you were the servants of sin" Rom. 6:17 That is what we were before we were saved slaves to sin. But in Christ we are "then made free from sin, you became servants of righteousness" Rom. 6:18 There are three aspects to salvation: a) when we first trusted Christ we are saved from the penalty of sin.(John 5:24, John 3:16) b) As those indwelt by the Spirit of God, as we walk by faith we are saved from the power of sin (Rom. 6:18) and we are being changed to become more like Christ (2 Cor. 3:18) We are not perfect, but our desire will be to honor the Lord and when we fail we have an advocate who pleads his own precious blood on our behalf. (1 John 2:1) c) By faith we look forward to the future when we will be saved from the presence of sin altogether when Christ comes. (1 Thess. 4:13-18) We see these three stages in the lives of the Thessalonians. Paul writes "you turned to God from idols"(their repentance and faith) "to serve the living and true God"( their daily walk of faith for Christ) " And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come" (the believer's hope and anticipation) You ask "Can we lose our salvation" Our faith is founded on the promises of God a God who cannot lie. (Heb. 6:18) Our salvation is secured by the work of Christ alone on the cross, a work in which God is totally satisfied. Jesus himself told us many times that when we believe in him we have (present possession) eternal and everlasting life. (John 3:16, John5:24) The words eternal and everlasting do no imply temporary. Jesus said "I give unto them eternal life and they shall never perish, neither shall any pluck them out of my hand" John 10:28 I do not believe that we can lose the new life which God has given us as a free gift, we cannot lose the Holy Spirit who dwells in us and we cannot cease being a child of God. We may falter and fail, but he remains faithful "for he cannot deny himself" If I were die today I would go out into eternity pleading only the work of Christ and I rest on his word that though unworthy in myself, we can say with Paul "I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed to him against that day." 2 Timothy 1:12 Peace in his precious name. 152 | Where did the dead go prior to Jesus | Luke 16:23 | Robert Nicholson | 66996
Greetings A2JFL The Lord Jesus Christ speaks of this in Luke 16 :19-31 He tells us of two people in life and two people in death. One went to hell (hades) which is the greek word for the place of departed spirits. The other man died and went to Abrahams bosum a section of comfort in hades for those who died right with God. We find that the one man is in conscious torment, while the other was tormented. The two compartments were separated by a great gulf preventing any of those who had died changing positions. When the Lord Jesus died he was buried in the new tomb and his spirit or soul went to hades or Abrahams bosum(paradise), which at his resurrection he emptied and we now find that paradise is in the third heaven. (2 Cor.12:1-4) I would advise you to read the passage in Luke 16 God Bless Robert |

154 | Do we worship in ignorance? Acts 17:23 | 2 Chr 15:3 | Robert Nicholson | 66990
Brother Ray: Your reference to 2 Chronicles 15:3 shows us a time when Israel was in bad condition. Do we worship in ignorance? In Acts 17:22-32 we have Paul's skilfull approah to the so called wise people of Athens. As we see in the passage they had alters to various gods and finally an alter to one they did not know "To the unkown God". Paul's response "Whom therefore you ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you. Do you think we have the principle here; that unless we know God, we cannot be true worshippers of him. The people of Athens thought that God was like their idols made "of gold, silver, stone, graven by art and man's device" v. 29 IN contrast in John 4 the woman at the well thought that God was found in some special geographical location. Jesus said to her "the hour is coming and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth; for the Father seeketh such to worship him" John 4:23 Regarding John7:46 "The officers answered, "No man ever spoke like this Man" Would you think that "No man" is referring to all men who never measure up to this Man? By capitalizing the last Man we are expressing one man?? How would this follow with "This Man(man) receiveth sinners and eateth with them"(Luke 15:2) Or "Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate saith unto them, Behold the man!(Man?)John 19:5 Your brother in Christ Robert |

155 | Didn't God give man freedom of choice? | Romans | Robert Nicholson | 66984
Dear brother Henri: Greetings in his precious name. In response to your last question "if a "really" saved individual is saved forever, then why does Satan waste his time with us once we've been saved?" In Job 1 we see Satan as the accusser of the righteous. His aim is to discredit those who desire to live for God. Peter warns God's people " Be sober, be vigilant; because your advesary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith..." (1 Peter 5:8) Satan knows that he cannot touch the souls of those who have trusted Christ. However, if he can ruin our testimony or destroy our fellowship with our Heavenly father, he will do it. We can have victory and be overcomers, John tells us in 1 John 4:4 "Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world" Henri, in 1 John we find that a Christian has a three fold enemy, the world, the flesh and the devil. As we walk by faith, God is able to give us strength to have victory. In Romans 6:17-18 we are reminded that before we were saved we "were servants of sin", but in Christ we are "made free from sin and became servants of righteousness" I was enjoying the three aspects of our salvation as shown in Paul's words to the Thessalonians in 1 Thess. 1: 9-10 He writes "...how you turned to God from idols" (repentance and faith) "to serve the lving and true God ( the Christian walk by faith) "And to wait for his Son from heaven, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come" (the believer's hope and anticipation) I believe that when we trust Christ we are immediately saved the the penalty of sin. (John 5:24, Rom. 5:1) After we are saved we are delivered or saved from the power of sin and in the future we look forward by faith to the day we will be delivered or saved from the presence of sin altogether when Christ comes. These are just a few thoughts concerning our life in Christ. We fail, but Jesus never fails. God bless you brother Robert |

156 | Do all little ones believe? | Matt 18:6 | Robert Nicholson | 66970
Dear brother Cyclist: Your joyful attitude before the Lord is a blessing to all. As I was reading the posts on this subject I was reminded by brother Ray of the words of the Lord Jesus: "Luke 12:23, "For life is more than food, and the body than clothing. Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap, and they have no sotreroom nor barn; and yet God/ feeds them; HOW MUCH MORE valuable you are than the birds."...v.27, "Consider the lilies, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin; but I tell you..." It is in these words we see the tender heart of our heavenly Father. He cares far more than we can comprehend and I believe that by faith we can leave our infant children in his care. It is clear in 2 Thess. 1:8 that the judgment of God is against those who obey not the gospel of Christ. When we consider young children and those who are not mentally competent I think that we must realize that they are individual souls which are precious in God's sight. In 2 Tim. 2:15 we read Paul's words to Timothy "That from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus" As parents we know our responsiblity is to follow the example of Timothy's mother and grandmother who taught him God's word which eventually resulted in his salvation. I won't side track too much. However, when such difficult discussions regarding judgment of people who fall into a so called gray area, I often think of the words of Abraham as he looked over Sodom and intercedes on their behalf: "shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?" Gen. 18:25b. Your brother in Christ Robert |

157 | when we go to war with iraq will we end? | Matt 24:44 | Robert Nicholson | 66933
Greetings blondechick198: I think it would be helpful if you were to study the map of the Middle East at http://www.sitesatlas.com/Maps/Maps/MEast.htm You will notice that Israel is not in Iraq. Modern Iraq has a population of 24 million people. Seventy-five percent are Arabs, 15-20 percent are Kurdish and the remainder are Turkoman, Assyrian or another ethnic group. Israel represents the children of Abraham, once called Hebrews, then Israelites and Jews. The Bible does not say anything about World War 3. In fact many people made predictions on the future at the time of World War Two and such predictions were in error. I believe that the end of the age (world) will be brought about by the coming of Christ to the earth in power and in glory. His disciples were promised this in Acts 1:11. Even at that time the disciples were wanting to know about end times. Jesus told them "It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power" Acts 1:7 In Matt. 24 Jesus discussed the signs of the times. He told the people "But of the day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my father only" v.36 Jesus continues to explain how things will be before his coming. "But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating, drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark. And knew not until the flood came, and took they all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be" Matt. 24:37-39 I believe that we must be careful in making predictions on current events. However, it is very important that we are aware that the time is drawing near. The Lord Jesus Christ gave us this exhortation "Therefore be you also ready: for in such an hour as you think not, the Son of man cometh" Matt. 24:44 The Bible teaches that just before the Lord comes that the armies of earth will surround Israel and at that point Christ will come and judge all those who are against him. However, we do not know for sure when this event will take place. Hope this helps Robert |

158 | Why didn't Moses enter the Promised Land | Num 20:12 | Robert Nicholson | 66929
Dear brother Ray: Thank you for your thoughts. In the first instance of the people needing water in the wilderness of Sin in Exodus 17 Moses is instructed "thou shalt smite the rock and there shall be water out of it" v. 6 I see the rock as a picture of Christ who was "stricken, smitten of God and afflicted. In the second instance in Numbers 20:8 he is instructed to speak to the rock. Would you see this as a picture of our dependance upon God for an abundant supply to meet our spiritual needs in our experience after we are saved? You have referred to John 7:38 In verse 37 we find that Jesus is the source for a thirsty soul and he appeals to "any man" "He that believeth on me" the moment we rest in him by faith, we will receive satisfaction which will quench and satisfy us forever. "out of his belly (heart) shall flow rivers of living water" v. 38 In v. 39 we are told he is speaking "of the Spirit which they that believe on him should receive..." I have wondered about using the promised land as a type or picture of heaven. However, we know that many of the Old Testament types and shadows were exactly that and provides us though sometimes "through a glass darkly" an understanding of the real. I believe that we can conclude that Moses is a righteous man as he is listed with the hero's of faith in Heb. 11. In fact in v. 23-28 we see the stages of his life and that "By faith" and "through faith" he stepped out on God's word. As I mentioned in Deut. 34 he is given high commendation "So Moses the servant of the Lord died..." Just a few thoughts Robert |

159 | Why didn't Moses enter the Promised Land | Num 20:12 | Robert Nicholson | 66916
Dear brother charis: What a difference it would have made if Moses had obeyed the Lord. His disobedience had a two fold consequence. He disqualified himself from entering the promised land and instead of believing God and allowing the people to see that God would provide water from the rock from Moses speaking to it, instead Moses put himself in angry control and beat the rock. The water flowed and the people were blessed, but they were given a wrong impression of the source. Would this not remind us of service for the Lord in our own lives? That we should check our motives and give God the glory for the great things he will do through us? It is possible for one to spread God's word in a way which brings self glory. God will bless his word and yet the person who reflects glory on himself will suffer loss. I was looking at Deut. 34: 1-8 Although Moses would not enter into the land, we see that God still calls him "Moses the servant of the Lord" V.5 The showed him the land from the top of the mountain and although he was healthy, he died and the Lord buried him. Moses did not enter into what could have been his, yet the Lord was with him and looked after him when he died. This reminds me of 1 Cor. 4:5 Paul is speaking of the judgment of those who belong to Christ and although we may have not entered into what could have been ours, we read "then shall every man have praise of God". These are just a few thoughts I have enjoyed while thinking of Moses the servant of the Lord. Your brother in Christ Robert |

160 | The godhead or perhaps the divine? | Acts 17:29 | Robert Nicholson | 66911
Goodmorning brother Ray: Your post has made me think again. As you are aware the word "Godhead" is used 3 times in the New Testament and is found in Acts 17:29, Romans 1:20, and Col. 2:9 I checked each in Strong's concordance and found the following: In Acts 17:29 the transliterated greek word used is "Theios"#2304 an adj. which is defined as a general name of dieties or divinities used by the Greeks. Interestingly, the same word 2304 is used twice in 2 Peter 1:3,4. In verse 3 KJV "divine power" and in v.4 "divine nature" Both in the lower case. In Romans 1:20 the "Theiotes" # 2305 a noun is used and is defined as divinity, divine nature. However, in Col.2:9 the word is "Theotes"#2320 a noun defined as the state of being God, Godhead. It appears that this is the application which would remain Capitalized. Getting back to your original question on Acts 17:29. It would be my personal preference to accept the NASB translation with lower case "divine nature" which reflects the meaning of the word more accurately, rather than change it to "godhead". My reason for this is to avoid confusing "godhead" in Acts 17:29 with "Godhead" in Col. 2:9. I believe the term "Godhead" in Col 2:9 is a more scriptual word for our triune God than the Trinity which is not used in the scriptures. Ray, these are only suggestions and I look forward to your response. In Christ Robert |
