Reighnskye, If you're referring to the "paregoric" thread and the seriousness between Hank and me, let me exegize. Paregoric is a diarrhoea nostrum twisted by Hank's subtle wit into a pun on Pythagoras who, though not culpable for the narrowing of the value of pi (Archimedes), nevertheless serves Hank's purpose here which is to pun past his bedtime. Certain regulars herein can get punchy and sound like the Marx Bretheren. Colin |

Pdcarn, a quibble and a question. The citation on iherited sin is from Romans 5:12, not v.5:5. Is Paul contradicting himself when he writes in v.12, "and so death spread to all men, because all sinned--" and in v.14, "Nevertheless, death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who had not sinned in the likeness of the offense of Adam..."? 150 | Am I under Jewish Law? | Rom 8:4 | flinkywood | 135753 | ||
Reighnskye, Let me try to answer your opening question. “…You shall love your neighbor as yourself." (Mat 19:19) "The commandments, 'You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,' and any other commandment, are summed up in this word: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. (Rom 13:9-10) In a sense, Jesus reintroduces us to the importance of the Law and its Spirit in Himself. He commands us to fulfill the Law by loving our neighbor as ourself. The only way to do this is through Him (John 15.5). Insofar as we are under the Law in Him, we are also given the Grace to do the Law in Him. This is Paul’s meaning in Romans 2:13: “For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified.” Following Christ involves keeping the Commandments. Doc, The Essenes practised celibate marriage, so it was not unheard of. Also consider the converse of your argument: the marriage was abnormal because they were obedient to the Lord; it was, after all, the most abnormal conception in history. Colin |

Tim, thanks for hanging in here. How do we integrate rejection of Christ with Mat 25:45-46? "Then He will answer them, 'Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.' "These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life." Is Jesus saying that to the extent we do not do these things to Him we reject Him, and He us, eternally? Colin |
