141 | How did Jesus escape from Nazareth? | John 10:30 | Mommapbs | 129634
Greetings! How did Jesus escape from Nazareth? Is 55:8-9 might give you a clue! I suspect the message for us to understand here is that Jesus is not subject to man's desires. Also, His time (for His death) had not come . . . God is God and we are not - thank you God! Blessings, mommapbs |

142 | What are two kinds of ignorance? | Romans | Mommapbs | 129514
Greetings tgbishop! Ignorance is often the result of incomplete knowledge of the facts; yet (imo) ignorance can also be voluntary - ignorance might be compared to the sins of omission and comission -Romans 1:18-20 tells us that what can be known about God, HE has revealed, therefore we can't plead ignorance with Him! Indeed, we are without excuse. In attempting to answer your question, I am "ignorant", but not by choice, of what you are really after - please provide a Bible reference that has prompted your query or guide for discussion of this topic. ALSO . . . To date, you have asked 12 questions on the Forum. Please tell us a bit about yourself under "Resources" in "Update User Info" so that those who would like to get to know you won't have an excuse to be "ignorant." Blessings, mommapbs |

143 | Does Islam fit? | 2 John 1:7 | Mommapbs | 129310
Greetings Pastor Glenn - you've hit one one of my "hot buttons" here! According to 2 Timothy 4:2-4 Paul charges Timothy (and us) with his responsibility as a witness of/to the Truth to "Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with great patience and instruction." He then goes on to give the reason WHY, "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn their ears away from the truth and will turn aside to myths." IMO, the church has neglected the task of "church discipline." At the extreme, those who support gay rights flock to churches where the ordained pastor is gay or does not preach homosexuality as a sin BUT to me, the greater issue is much more subtle as differences and disagreements have resulted in divisions and splits within bodies of believers. Jesus commands us to "love one another as HE loves." When we don't, is this not sin? Is this sin to be overlooked? Mt 18 gives clear guidance in (of)"fence mending." Just wondering, does your congregation follow this pattern do they get together and back stab and "gossip"? Just as God's discipline is for our bebefit, we must see church disciplin in the same way - it is indeed an act of love when applied in a Biblical manner. But imo, (and my experience)all too often it is not done in humility and love, but with condemnaion and self-righteousness. I totally agree, when sin is in our midst, we not only must be obedient to God, but in our obedience we serve one another, indeed as you have said, "We owe it to them to speak out with gentleness and love." 144 | What is God saying these days? | Ps 19:2 | Mommapbs | 126166
Axien7z4 - I am reminded of the verse, "always learning, and never never able to come to the knowledge of the Truth." 2Tim 3:7 Also,"remember thy Creator in the days of thy youth" The whole of nature points to "intelligent design" yet men reject this because the want to deny the existence of a Designer! How thankful I am that I am "fearfully and wonderfully made." . . . "It it He who has made us and not we ourselves." (!) God's message has not changed. He still calls sinners to come to repentence. "Come" See Heb 11:6 How do you come to something you don't believe exists? God reveals His existence in what He has made (Romans 1) Axien, since our relationship with God is personal, perhaps a more important question to ask is,"What is God saying to YOU these days?" ! Also, is there a way that you "hear" Him most clearly? Where are you most conscious of His voice? Blessings, mommapbs |

145 | Freewill before the fall? | Gen 2:9 | Mommapbs | 125843
Greetings Huron. Since God told them that they could eat of any tree in the Garden except THAT one, doesn't it make sense that God also gave them an opportunity to do just that? They could choose to obey or not obey. Sound's like free-will to me. Blessings, mommapbs |

Greetings barwm7! Although I have heard Larry Crabb many times and have followed his spiritual journey, please remember that the purpose of THIS Forum is to discuss God's Message! I have not read this book, but if you have found something that Larry states with supporting Scripture and you would like some discussion, re-post your question as such. Blessings, mommapbs |

147 | Apply this to my life? | Matt 6:33 | Mommapbs | 125320
"There are two kinds of people, those who say to God, "Thy will be done; and those to who God says, 'Thy will be done.'" C.S. Lewis (The Great Divorce) Sportyt - do read the notes on this verse! Also, I saw a great one liner on a church sign the other day that read: "GOOD without GOD is O" When we seek His kindgom and His way of doing things, Who will be at the "controls"? BUT - How often do we consider God in "our" plans? Read Mt 22:37 Jesus tells us that the greatest commandment is to "Love God." And yet, God can't make anyone love Him; loving God is a choice. When we choose to love God FIRST, everything else in our life will fall into its proper place. How do we love God? We obey; this pleases Him. He rejoices; He takes pleasure in our love; and the joy of the Lord is our strength! (especially when we encounter suffering for choosing His way! It is never wrong to do the right thing. We discover what is right and pleasing to God as we read His Word.) All this being said, I encourage you to seek His kingdom and His righeousness through careful study of God's Word! "All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;" 2 Tim 3:16 Blessings, mommapbs |

149 | Would you please pray for me? | Bible general Archive 2 | Mommapbs | 125028
Greetings Mike, I have been praying for you and your family since I read your post. I also brought your name for prayer in my little prayer band at church last evening. You have been lifted before the throne across the globe by now - isn't that amazing?! Many months ago, you and I tangled over some issue or another and since that time I HAD chosen not to write under your posts - forgive me and please know that I value you as a brother in the Lord and pray for His perfect will to be accomplished in your life and in those you love. Indeed we are fearfully and wonderfully made . . . in HIS image! Blessings to you Mike - may you continue to be strong in the Lord, in His mighty power - persevere! trish |

150 | The Sovereignty of God | Ps 103:19 | Mommapbs | 124625
Greetings Hank - great questions! So I sought out some answers . . . check out Arthur Pink's book, "The Sovereignty of God" - I plan to read through this - thanks for the "push." http://www.pbministries.org/books/pink/Sovereignty/sovereignty.htm Pink says about the value of this doctrine: "The substitution of so-called "practical" preaching for the doctrinal exposition which it has supplanted is the root cause of many of the evil maladies which now afflict the church of God. The reason why there is so little depth, so little intelligence, so little grasp of the fundamental verities of Christianity, is because so few believers have been established in the faith . . ." "The doctrine of God’s sovereignty then is no mere metaphysical dogma which is devoid of practical value, but is one that is calculated to produce a powerful effect upon Christian character and the daily walk. The doctrine of God’s sovereignty lies at the foundation of Christian theology, and in importance is perhaps second only to the Divine Inspiration of the Scriptures. It is the center of gravity in the system of Christian truth—the sun around which all the lesser orbs are grouped. It is the golden milestone to which every highway of knowledge leads and from which they all radiate. It is the cord upon which all other doctrines are strung like so many pearls, holding them in place and giving them unity. It is the plumb-line by which every creed needs to be measured, the balance in which every human dogma must be weighed. It is designed as the sheet-anchor for our souls amid the storms of life. The doctrine of God’s sovereignty is a Divine cordial to refresh our spirits. It is designed and adapted to mould the affections of the heart and to give a right direction to conduct. It produces gratitude in prosperity and patience in adversity. It affords comfort for the present and a sense of security respecting the unknown future. It is, and it does all, and much more than we have just said, because it ascribes to God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—the glory which is His due, and places the creature in his proper place before Him—in the dust." Here are 12 reasons Pink lists on the value of preaching the Doctrine of the sovereignty of God: 1-It deepens our veneration of the Divine Character. 2-It is the solid foundation of all true religion. 3-It repudiates the heresy of salvation by works. 4-It is deeply humbling to the creature. 5-It affords a sense of absolute security. 6-It supplies comfort in sorrow. 7-It begets a spirit of sweet resignation. 8-It evokes a song of praise. 9-It guarantees the final triumph of good over evil. 10-It provides a resting place for the heart. Mommapbs responds: Is it important to teach and preach and meditate upon the sovereignty of God? YES Why? Because of our human tendency to focus on self rather than on God. Meditiation on God's sovereignty keeps everything in HIS perspective - Lord open our eyes that we may see what YOU see . . . Why do you think it (God's Sovereignty) has become so unpopular a subject? Because man continues to want to be "in control" - we are still in rebellion! We think by placing God in the passenger seat we are "going with God!" But is He really going with us? Not when we consider His sovereignty - we delude ourselves with this thinking. Yes, I agree, humanism has had a significant influence upon the church as well as upon individual believers. This man centered mindset encourages independence and values the "I can do it" mentality that America in particular thrives upon. But the effect of humanism upon Christians is to dethrone God. Indeed, we are mostly a self-focused bunch! Very sobering to realize this . . . Lord forgive me. What does the Bible say? From Pink's book I found this fabulous verse: "Thine, O Lord, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is Thine; Thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and Thou art exalted as Head above all" 1 Chronicles 29:11 May we all fall on our faces like Job and declare:"I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear; But now my eye sees You;Therefore I retract,And I repent in dust and ashes." Job 42:5-6 Blessings, mommapbs |

151 | what is a seer | 1 Sam 9:9 | Mommapbs | 124023
From a Post by Makarios: Question: What is the difference between a prophet and a seer? Response: "There was no essential difference between a seer and a prophet. The person popularly designated as a prophet at the time of the writing of 1,2 Samuel was termed a seer in the time of Saul. This need not mean that the term "seer" was unknown in later times (see Isaiah 30:10). The reference is to popular usage." (Zondervan NASB Study Bible) The development of the Hebrew language over a period of time (like that of English) could explain why the word "prophet" was used in place of the much older word "seer"; both which are referring to the same figure (or person) in Israel's society. The Hebrew word for "seer" is as follows.. "7200 ra'ah raw-aw' a primitive root; to see, literally or figuratively (in numerous applications, direct and implied, transitive, intransitive and causative):--advise self, appear, approve, behold, X certainly, consider, discern, (make to) enjoy, have experience, gaze, take heed, X indeed, X joyfully, lo, look (on, one another, one on another, one upon another, out, up, upon), mark, meet, X be near, perceive, present, provide, regard, (have) respect, (fore-, cause to, let) see(-r, -m, one another), shew (self), X sight of others, (e-)spy, stare, X surely, X think, view, visions." (Strong's Exhaustive Concordance) And for "prophet".. "5030 nabiy' naw-bee' from 5012; a prophet or (generally) inspired man:--prophecy, that prophesy, prophet. 5012 naba' naw-baw' a primitive root; to prophesy, i.e. speak (or sing) by inspiration (in prediction or simple discourse):--prophesy(-ing), make self a prophet." (Strong's Exhaustive Concordance) The two words in Hebrew for seer "ra'ah" and for prophet "nabiy'" mean essentially the same thing. --Nolan |

Koda - welcome to the Forum. The purpose of this body is to discuss what the Bible says. The situation you have presented is personal in nature and I encourage you to seek the counsel of your Pastor or a Godly individual who is aquainted with your situation. In reference to your question, Peter is telling us to be Christlike in our responses to another's sin (in this I am inclinded to see the sin of unbelief). God is patient with us, not wanting any to perish. We are to set the example-keep to the "high road"! We do not repay evil with evil; in your anger, sin not. I also encourage you to read 1 Cor 7:15. Does this apply to your situation? May God guide and direct you. Blessings, mommapbs |

156 | Does God speak to us directly? | Heb 1:2 | Mommapbs | 123890
Greetings! Input Heb 1:2 in the Questions/Notes on verse text field in the green stipe at the top of this page. God does indeed speak to us. We can "hear" Him through His Word. "Hear the word which the LORD speaks to you, O house of Israel."Ezk 3:10 Sometimes God may speak unbidden but mostly we hear Him as we desire to hear His voice. God speaks to us throguh His Word, through His Spirit, through prayer, through circumstances and through other people to name a few . . . I also believe that God speaks to some in visions and dreams. God's voice may also be audible for some (He has spoken this way to me three times.) Since everyone's relationship with the Lord is personal, we should be careful not to put limits upon what God can or can not do - one time, He spoke by using a donkey. God still speaks, the question is: are we listening? Blessings, mommapbs |

157 | What kind of bib type are the gibeonites | Ex 34:12 | Mommapbs | 123863
Greetings and welcome to the Forum. The problem was that the Israelites disobeyed God by making a treaty with the Gibeonites. There were consequences to their sin. IMO, I don't see the Gibeonites in the same category as Rahab. "But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, then it shall come about that those whom you let remain of them will become as pricks in your eyes and as thorns in your sides, and they will trouble you in the land in which you live."Num 33:55 Rahab was never a thorn in Israelite's side, but in fact she was part of the lineage of Christ. 158 | need info on Semuramis and Tammuz | Ezra 8:14 | Mommapbs | 123806
Greetings - I asked about Tammuz a while back - here is what Tim Moran sent to me: Harpers Bible Dictionary says of Tammuz: "Tammuz (tahm×uhz), the Hebrew form of Dumuzi (Sumerian, ’proper son’), a god widely honored from the third millennium b.c. in Mesopotamia. The vast and complex Mesopotamian literature about this god shows three essential aspects of him: as lover and consort of Inanna; as one held in the underworld and mourned because of his absence; as the embodiment of spring vegetation and then of vegetation in general. Many laments are preserved that bewail the ’far one’ who has disappeared, detained in the underworld. The laments reflect the aspect of Tammuz as god of vegetation; his disappearance is connected to the drying up of the steppe in summer. His cult may have been brought to Israel by the Assyrians in the ninth and eighth centuries b.c. Aspects of Tammuz became synthesized with West Semitic gods of similar characteristics. Baal Haddu, for example, went down into the underworld, died, rose, and was mourned during his absence. Some of Dumuzi’s traits also appear in Adonis, a god first attested in Greece in the fifth century b.c. In Ezekiel’s vision of four sins being committed in the Jerusalem Temple, the third is a group of women weeping for Tammuz in the north gate (8:14). The women in Ezekiel are mourning this dying and rising god. The action is an abomination to Ezekiel who believes that God does not die and cannot be mourned. See also Ezekiel, The Book of; Sources of the Pentateuch. R.J.C." While, the Bible Knowledge Commentary says of Ezekiel 8:14: "Ezekiel was taken out to the entrance to the north gate of the temple. This was probably the entrance to the temple’s outer court. Beside this gate Ezekiel saw women . . . mourning for Tammuz. ”Tammuz“ is the Hebrew form of the name of the Sumerian god Dumuzi, the deity of spring vegetation. The apparent death of all vegetation in the Middle East during the hot, dry summer months was explained in mythology as caused by Tammuz’s death and descent into the underworld. During that time his followers would weep, mourning his death. In the spring Tammuz would emerge victoriously from the underworld and bring with him the life-giving rains. The worship of Tammuz also involved fertility rites. Worship of the true Giver of rain had been supplanted by the debased adoration of a pagan deity. The worship of the Creator was replaced by the worship of the cycles of creation He had established. And yet Ezekiel was to see things . . . even more detestable than these (cf. vv. 6, 13)." You can do a web search on these two characters for more information, but this is the reference to Tammuz in the Bible. Blessings, mommapbs |

Yes Tami, God's Word is real. 2 Peter 1 :21 also says, that its origin is not from man, but from God. As Timothy says, we can depend upon the Bible to instruct us in all things. The Bible is our source of Truth; it is real whether you choose to believe it or not! Blessings, mommapbs |

160 | What's plead the blood mean? | Eph 1:7 | Mommapbs | 123802
Greetings! Most often folks use this expression to affirm that their sins have been forgiven. I suspect that some may also use it as a "justification" to persist in sinful behaviors, yet this is akin to trampling the blood of Christ under one's feet, as they don't realize what it cost to purchase their redemption.
