141 | Pre-Forum thinking? | Acts 2:38 | charis | 4734
Dear Ray, I am truly sorry if you are led away from water baptism because of our discussion. I don't know your age or salvation experience, but what was your thinking pre-Forum? If you have read my postings, you should be aware that I am not (at least no longer) hung up on the name, but the faith in the work of God. I think it is obvious that the Bible does not consider baptism to be a 'Jewish thing,' but a Christian act of obedience. Indeed, water baptism does not seem to be prerequisite to salvation, but sustenance is not abundant life. Though there do seem to be 'minimum requirements' to sustain Christian life, is not abundant Christian life better? Please do find a church that baptizes by faith, and submit in faith. I have seen in the Bible evidence that obedience to this and other 'optional' commandments brings forth fruit in keeping with our faith. Go for it, friend! As to the 'Great Commision,' (which is not witten in the Bible, but a human term) I don't believe it refers so much to being baptized and having demons cast out of you as it does to going out and preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Peace upon you in Jesus' name, charis |

150 | OT church? | Acts 2:17 | charis | 3976
Dear Sam, Don't you think that the Old and New Covenants speak of two distinct salvation experiences? Though both operate through faith, does not the new covenant speak of the cross and the blood of Christ? Were these working before in Abraham and Moses? I'm not sure I understand your view that the church is applicable to Old Testament saints. Please explain. In Christ Jesus, charis |

151 | Are 'we' there, yet? | Matt 16:18 | charis | 3555
Dear Lifer1J511, I agree that each of us, individually, is in Christ. We are each members of His body, the church. However, I was asking if we, corporately, are the 'built' church? Jesus said 2000 years ago that He would build His church, and I fail to see an organism, only many may cellular organizations, each with their own agenda. I desire to witness an organism, an entity that portrays the body of Christ. Are 'we' there, yet? In Jesus' name, charis |

153 | Codes for men? | Amos 1:1 | charis | 3521
Dear Nolan Keck, I ask in curiosity, what about a 'dress code' for men? I have lived near 'Amish country' and seen their version. I have to wonder where they got their dress code for men. It is close to a uniform, but certainly nothing like what was worn by the early Corinthian church. They certainly did not have neckties and brimmed hats. The Amish state a very similar 'code' toward women as you express above. How would you account for other 'codes' of dress and conduct that are maybe 200 years old, but definitely not 2000 years old. It does seem to me that many of the 'correct' rules are man-made extrapolations, not sola scriptura truths. Again, this is a not an idictment. In Japan there are few 'ultra-conservative' groups (my words, I hope not offensive), so I have no opportunity to ask these kind of questions. BTW, my hair is short, and so are all the men of my church, but does I Corinthians 11:6 really say that it is a shame for a man to have long hair? Blessings, dear brother, in Jesus' name, charis |

154 | Conscience? | Matt 28:20 | charis | 3517
Dear reformedreader, Thanks for a beautiful answer! By the way, this is not Chris, but charis, another nice fellow :-) You wrote, "They are set into the hearts of all believers in the respect they are the believers Christian duty and obedience from a loving heart for their Lord." I agree with this, that the loving heart is what makes our adherance acceptable to God. Might this 'natural ability to know right and wrong' be termed 'conscience,' as in that part of us which is created in the image of God? Do these commandments include many of the things that divide the church of Jesus? Indeed, many Christians are uncomfortable discussing such questions. Might it be that such questions would undermine traditions of men that divide the church into so many entities, often focusing on things that have nothing to do with a heart after God? Blessings in Jesus' name, charis |

155 | Commandments absolute? | Matt 28:20 | charis | 3502

157 | Allowed to wish all a Happy Easter? | Acts 12:4 | charis | 3492
"And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people." Acts 12:4 KJV Greetings and blessings to all this blessed day of Easter in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ! In Japan, it is already Monday. Here, Easter is translated 'Fukkatsu-sai' or 'Resurrection Celebration.' We had a wonderful Sunday. As a prophet spoke, "Though there is no need to honor special days, this day of resurrection is to remind you that every day is special in Christ the Risen Savior." In Jesus' name, charis |
