"the Seed (the Descendant, the Heir) should come, to and concerning Whom the promise had been made." Doesn't the Amplified version say that the promise was made to the Seed? NASB: "...the seed would come TO whom the promise had been made." |

129 | How important is growth? | Eph 4:12 | Thomas8 | 202096
Hi Brad, I was just trying to distinguish or contrast when using 'educator' and 'entertainer.' It is like we have in the school system where some careless teachers (burned out teachers that do not care) are seen as 'baby sitters' rather than instructors. A teacher needs zeal and purpose; an entertainer just needs to amuse. So, Heb 5:12-13 KJVR (12) For when for the time ye ought to be teachers... I agree we need to look at the members. We should also look at the proportion of time spent on the Word 'in' church vrs other interests. What is their example? Is the service filled with expository preaching and study? Do you think that maybe there is a relationship between the kind of church/preacher one choses and how much daily study is done? Thank you for your reply |

130 | Are they pastor/teachers? | Eph 4:12 | Thomas8 | 202092
Hi Steve, So, the next question would be 'why' or 'how' did the church change from educators to entertainers? It is not a new situation... Heb 5:12-13 KJVR (12) For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. (13) For every one that useth milk is unskillfull in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. Please speak to the lack of growth with regards to pastor/teachers. |

131 | Cornelius? | Bible general Archive 4 | Thomas8 | 202082
Are you thinking of... Act 10:2-6 KJV (2) A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God always. (3) He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius. (4) And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God. (5) And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter: (6) He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do. |

132 | Function of the Church? | Eph 4:12 | Thomas8 | 202081
Ephesians 4:11-12 (Amplified) And His gifts were [varied; He Himself appointed and gave men to us] some to be apostles (special messengers), some prophets (inspired preachers and expounders), some evangelists (preachers of the Gospel, traveling missionaries), some pastors (shepherds of His flock) and teachers. His intention was the perfecting and the full equipping of the saints (His consecrated people), [that they should do] the work of ministering toward building up Christ's body (the church), In this passage who are to be the ministers? By that I mean, should the church be a Seminary? How do you understand 'equipping'? It is for what purpose/ministry? |

133 | Senses of the word church? | 3 John 1:10 | Thomas8 | 202069
Hi Steve, Thank you for your reply. I'm thinking about a distinction between church as the saved as the body of Christ vrs the view that the church is an organization made up of saved and lost. Diotrephes is casting out of an organization but it would not affect their salvation, would it? Would they still be in the Body of Christ? Or is this distinction modern? |

134 | I need examples of a good reputation | 3 John 1:12 | Thomas8 | 202062
3Jn 1:12 KJVR (12) Demetrius hath good report of all men, and of the truth itself: yea, and we also bear record; and ye know that our record is true. False witnesses would lie about believers and it was important that there be no foundation whatsoever for it. Those that knew the accused would know his character and how much credance to give any accusation. |
||||||
135 | Diotrephes | 3 John 1:10 | Thomas8 | 202060
How can Diotrephes cast people out of the church? The church is viewed as a spiritual remnant or a physical organization - and in this verse it seems to be a physical group. |
