Kalos, You stated: "In the Torah (Law) God very clearly and plainly COMMANDS circumcision. Leviticus 12:1,3 (ESV) The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, [2] "Speak to the people of Israel, saying, 'If a woman conceives and bears a male child...on the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised.'"" So are believers under the law of circumcision today, as in OT times? - Blessings, Reighnskye |

132 | John Baptist's Jewish legal credentials? | OT general | Reighnskye | 134249
EdB, You quoted from the Holman Bible Dictionary as follows: "At some point close to the time of Jesus, Judaism began a heavy emphasis on ritual washings to cleanse from impurity. This goes back to priestly baths prior to offering sacrifices (Lev. 16:4,24). Probably shortly prior to the time of Jesus or contemporary with Him, Jews began baptizing Gentile converts, though circumcision still remained the primary entrance rite into Judaism." In this light, wouldn't circumcision be on an equivalent level as baptism? The early Jewish church seems to have thought so. How would circumcision and baptism really differ, if at all? Acts 15 1 Some men came down from Judea and began teaching the brethren, "Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved." (NAS95) - Blessings, Reighnskye |

136 | John Baptist's Jewish legal credentials? | Luke 1:5 | Reighnskye | 134244
Doc, You stated: "Jewish baptism was one of the steps that a proselyte took when becoming a Jew." I find this rather fascinating. So John the Baptist was converting people to Judaism, as opposed to Christianity, when he baptized the masses? Thanks. - Blessings, Reighnskye |

139 | Baptism-What Does the Bible Teach? | Acts 2:38 | Reighnskye | 134241
Rowdy, Thanks. I got a chance to read the post that you mentioned. I've also had opportunity over the years to read the many verses on baptism that the bible provides, assuming that these are the 87 verses that you are referring to. What I'll probably do is jump in on some of your future posts, rather than do a full reading of the previous ones, as my time frame may reasonably allot. Perhaps in that way, I can catch myself up to speed, with what you're saying. - Blessings, Reighnskye |

BradK, - Thanks for the many fine points. :) I wonder how some of these verses that you gave me might be interpreted, in light of the physically and/or mentally handicapped, who cannot necessarily support themselves for a living. - 2 Thessalonians 3 10 For even when we were with you, we used to give you this order: if anyone is not willing to work, then he is not to eat, either. (NAS95) Proverbs 19 15 Laziness casts into a deep sleep, And an idle man will suffer hunger. (NAS95) - Blessings, Reighnskye |
