121 | Did Shem exit the Ark at 98, outlv Abrm? | Gen 11:10 | Pastor Glenn | 140664
Hello EdB, Yes, I just performed a Google search and came up with this site (among others): http://www.practicalchristianliving.org/timeline.htm If we use Adam's creation and count forward, we see the timeline as shown on this website. This matches a table that I put together from scripture. If I made a mistake, then this website, along with New Creature, also made the same mistake. Our only source is Genesis chapters 5 and 11. Again, these are the only geneologies that include "ages" along Jacob's birthline, so it seems strange how anyone could come up with anything else from scripture. Hello New Creature, This shows that the accounts of the fall of man and the great flood were probably taught by first, second, and third hand knowledge. This means that information was not passed through many, many generations, as is generally thought. I find this amazing. However, I am looking forward to EdB's reply on descrepacies with outside sources. Your brother in Christ, Pastor Glenn |

Hello EdB, I also agree that we must be careful. But isn't the burden of proof really on the Reese Chronological Bible to show how they came up with dates that differ from scripture. After all, don't we take the bible as the final authority? What sources do the Reese Chronological Bible give? Your brother in Christ, Pastor Glenn |

Hello Greentwiga, "The geneology of David only lists three people for a fou hundred year period." This geneology that we see in Genesis 11 gives the ages of the fathers when they had a son, as well as, how long they lived afterwards. Geneologies in Chronicles don't do this. It is clear that this particular geneology is not compressed. "The geneology of Jesus drops out known names." I am aware of only two kings' names (I can't remember them off hand) that seem to be missing for some reason from one geneology. However, closer study using literal translations should help show why. I think we will find that certain very wicked kings were not real fathers to appearent sons and their real birth lines were cut off by God's judgement. If you remember a name in question, I think that it is worth investigating. This should not be considered "questioning the authority of scripture". It is simply part of bible "study". I am also aware of this scripture: Titus 3:9 But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain. We are werely counting years, in an effort to see overlapping lifespans. This shows that the accounts of the fall of man and the great flood were probably taught by first, second, and third hand knowledge. This means that information was not passed through many, many generations, as is generally thought. This is very significant, not "vain" at all. Your Brother in Christ, Pastor Glenn |

Hello New Creature, I thought that this subject would spur much more debate. But, I think that as some forum members read the scriptures they forgot their train of thought when they woke back up after: Gen 11:10 These are the generations of Shem: Shem was an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood: Gen 11:11 And Shem lived after he begat Arphaxad five hundred years, and begat sons and daughters. ........... lets see... 100 plus 500 equals 600. Gen 11:12 And Arphaxad lived five and thirty years, and begat Salah: Gen 11:13 And Arphaxad lived after he begat Salah four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters. ............35 plus 403 equals ...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Gen 11:14 And Salah lived thirty years, and begat Eber: Gen 11:15 And Salah lived after he begat Eber four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters. ............. 30 plus ...zzzzzzzzzzzzzz Gen 11:16 And Eber lived four and thirty years, and begat Peleg: ....... Well New Creature, exactly how old was Jacob when Shem died? I think 50. Pastor Glenn |

126 | salvation for demons? | Lev 18:25 | Pastor Glenn | 140604
Hello Angel, "... since they would not repent and obey, there is no Salvation for them!" Also, Jesus died as a man, as He paid the penalty of the death centance. We humans have the "advantage" of being able to shed our flesh and blood: 1 Corinthians 15 50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption. 51 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed-- 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: "Death is swallowed up in victory."[g] 55 "O Death, where is your sting?[h] O Hades, where is your victory?"[i] The angels are already immortal. They cannot be "born again" of the Spirit like we can. Remember that Jesus had to become completely human before dying for us: Heb 10 5 Therefore, when He came into the world, He said: "Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, But a body You have prepared for Me. The angels cannot have their sins taken away from their spiritual bodies. They have nothing to shed. Their corruption is in their spiritual bodies. They cannot shed there corrupt nature. They cannot change back holy. How could the debt of death be paid by a "physical" death of Christ? Any comments? Pastor Glenn |

127 | The Lord told me to tell you..." ? | 1 Thess 5:20 | Pastor Glenn | 140602
Hello Doc, "Cessationism ... ... In orthodox Protestanism it is simply about sola scriptura. This is the advantage that Zaspel mentions (i.e., The scriptures, "the only sufficient, certain, and infallible rule of all saving knowledge, faith, and obedience"). Well, cessation is in house debatable. I see the scriptures focus on "fruit" (Gal 5:22-23) of the Spirit rather than "gifts" of the Spirit. After we rank all gifts, as well as, rank all fruit, we get prophecy as the greatest gift and love as the greatest fruit. Love then, ranks above prophecy (1 Cor 13:2,13). There is no debating this: Gal 5 22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 1 Cor 13 1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. 2And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 13And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. Some churches look for gifts to show spiritual growth. But, isn't the Church full of "fruit" much better than the church full of "gifts"? Any comments? Pastor Glenn |

129 | The Lord told me to tell you..." ? | 1 Thess 5:20 | Pastor Glenn | 140567
Hello Doc, Thanks for your excellent reponse, as well as, excellent responses from EdB, Kalos, and Searcher. You guys and others are great on this forum. Here is a quote from your reference website: "The Validation Of Prophecies I Thessalonians 5:19-20 commands the Christian to prove, or test, all prophecies. How? The apostles were able by their miraculous gifts to vindicate their own message, but no such provision was given the prophets." Also the summary: "Summary Prophecy was an important gift to the church and met a unique need in the early church, but it is no longer needed or given. Its "partial" messages (I Corinthians 13:9) have been replaced by the complete Revelation. The church today stands, then, at a great advantage without it." Please explain the differences between this and the comments of others. I fail to see much differences in the details. Honestly, my comprehension is laking here. Pastor Glenn |

130 | salvation for demons? | Lev 18:25 | Pastor Glenn | 140565
Hello Angel, "Peter, in 1 Peter 3:18-20, 4:6, is speaking on the fulfillment of Jesus' Salvation offered to all the creatures of God; these spirits are those who died not truly cognizant of God's Promise (Salvation in Christ Jesus)." Are you saying that Jesus offered salvation to the demons, as well as, to men? "...Jesus' Salvation offered to all the creatures of God..." Your brother in Christ, Pastor Glenn |

132 | how and where to start learning the bibl | John 1:1 | Pastor Glenn | 140434
John 1:1 is a very good place to start. Read the whole book of John. Then Read Isaiah chapter 53. Isaiah 53 is the first scripture quoted in the movie "The Passion of the Christ". This chapter should stir lots of good questions for you about why Christ (the Messiah) died for you. Also start attending Good bible class and Sunday School with a Christian friend. Hope this helps, Pastor Glenn |

133 | The Lord told me to tell you..." ? | 1 Thess 5:20 | Pastor Glenn | 140431
I just noticed that there are no notes on this verse: 1 Thessalonians 5 20 do not despise prophetic utterances. (NASB) 20 prophesyings despise not; (YLT) I have heard some say that it is bad to offer a "word of knowledge" or "prophetic word" to others concerning their life. As an example, someone may come to you and say "The Lord told me to tell you..." so and so. Is this wrong for them to do? If we refuse to listen, are we disobeying this scripture? Any Comments? 134 | Living together | 1 Thess 5:22 | Pastor Glenn | 140429
1 Thessalonians 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil. Hello Chris42, No, but it is probably just a matter of time. Why tempt yourselves? The scriptures say "flee youthful lusts"" 2 Timothy 2:22 Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. At 77 you would probably say "what youthful lusts"? Why not just get married? James 1:15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. Please consider all of these scriptures. Go and talk to your pastor also. Merry Christmas, Pastor Glenn |

136 | underlying question in these "..tongues" | 1 Cor 13:8 | Pastor Glenn | 140362
Please excuse me for butting in... I may be wrong, but it seems that the underlying question in these "speaking in tongues" discussions is "Does speaking in tongues show salvation"? I just want to point out that none of the "gifts" of the Spirit show salvation. Any lier can fake "tongues". However, the "fruit" of the spirit does show salvation. Remember that the number 1 fruit is Love. It is very difficult to "fake" love as discribed in the Love chapter (1 Cor 13). Any comments? If I am wrong in my assumption of an "underlying question", then please forgive me. Merry Christmas to all, Pastor Glenn |

Normally we just skip right past boring geneologies unless we need a sleep aid. But I find certain implications very interesting. I checked the lifetimes. Adam lived until Enoch was 308. I wanted to point out that Noah lived until Abraham was 60 and Shem (Abraham's ancestor) outlived Abraham to see Jacob's 50th birthday (I think I added right). The point is that living witnesses were always present to present "living epistles". Does anyone find this as interesting as I do? Hello? zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZ (....faint sound of crickets in background.......) Anybody there? Pastor Glenn |

138 | Is Jesus was another of God's tests? | John 1:1 | Pastor Glenn | 140262
Exodus_20, We believe in one God, that manifests as three eternally distinct persons. This is what we call the Trinity. Is this easy to understand? No. However, God did give us an example using the man and wife: Gen 1 26 And God saith, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness, and let them rule over fish of the sea, and over fowl of the heavens, and over cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that is creeping on the earth." 27 And God prepareth the man in His image; in the image of God He prepared him, a male and a female He prepared them. Notice "Us" and "Our" in verse 26, but "He" and "Him" in the very next verse (27). Gen 2 23 and the man saith, "This [is] the [proper] step! bone of my bone, and flesh of my flesh!" for this it is called Woman, for from a man hath this been taken; 24 therefore doth a man leave his father and his mother, and hath cleaved unto his wife, and they have become one flesh. (Young's Literal Translation) So just as a man and his wife are "one" flesh (but two persons), the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are "one" God (but three persons, the Trinity). Philippians 2 5 For, let this mind be in you that [is] also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, thought [it] not robbery to be equal to God, (YLT) So Jesus speaks of more than one person because they are more than one person, but one God. I hope this helps. |

140 | explain Mat 22:44 using "oneness" doctrn | Bible general Archive 2 | Pastor Glenn | 140226
"Haven't you read where it says there is One Lord. " Yes, I agree. The Lord is one: Mark 12:29 and Jesus answered him -- "The first of all the commands [is], Hear, O Israel, the Lord is our God, the Lord is one;" (Young's Literal Translation) We never deny that the Lord is one. "What are you saying, that there are two. " No, I am saying that the scriptures show one God reveiled in three persons (the trinity). My question to you is how do you explain these scriptures using "oneness" doctrine? "They knew what Jesus was saying, and that is, that he is that, "ONE LORD"." No, in this scripture He says "... the LORD said unto my Lord..." (Mat 22:44). We have one person talking to another person. Again, all that I am asking is how do you explain these scriptures using "oneness" doctrine? |
