121 | Am I understanding your meaning? | Matthew | Chusarcik | 93565
I'm trying to combine your two answers and understand the whole meaning. Are you saying that Jesus preached to the Nephilim in 1 Peter 3:18-19 but this was a separate event from the the three days Jesus spentin the earth illustrated in Matthew 12:40 and also in Ephesians 4:9-10 where it says Jesus descended into the lower parts of the earth? Sorry to keep asking questions, butI've read many different opinions and am trying to get it all straight. Chusarcik
122 | To which of these places did Jesus go? | Matthew | Chusarcik | 93558
Truthfinder, Thanks for the parallel text info in Jude and thankyou for defining the different meanings of Hades,Tartarus, Sheol and the Abyss. Which of these places is the the place in Matthew 12:40 where it says in my NIV Bible that Jesus went to the center of the earth for three days? My Bible study notes do not give that information. 123 | Is it this one? | Matthew | Chusarcik | 93527
I think that's the one where you said, "Here is my opinion....." Think I read that one. If it's a different one, let me know. Chusarcik

127 | Thankyou, what do you think about this? | Matthew | Chusarcik | 93467
Very good information. It matches Hank's answer which I'm beginning to agree with but I have many more verses to look up before solidifying my opinion. Most of the other respondees except Hank are giving me the opposite answer, that is those I've read so far and I have a few more to look at still. Thanks for the informaiton. Chusarcik
128 | Thanks your opinion differs from others | Matthew | Chusarcik | 93464
Hank, Thankyou. As you can probably see, I am getting many responses to my question. I'm about half way through them and they all seem to disagree with you, but yours is the only one I've read so far that seems to match with what the scripture is saying. I have many more verses to look up which I will do before I finalize my opinion. Thanks again, Chusarcik |

130 | Thankyou, what do you think about this? | Matthew | Chusarcik | 93362
Hank, Thanks for your detailed answer. Your view point seems more likely to me as in 1 Peter Jesus says He addressed the disobedient spirits in the days of Noah. That doesn't sound like he's talking about the righteous dead to me. I am beginning to see from some of the answers I've been getting that there are two view points on who Jesus is addressing. Some believe it's wicked spirits as you do and some think it's the righteous dead. A brief thought. Could Jeus have addressed two different groups of people during the 3 days in the center of the earth? Could he have referred to the righteous dead in Matthew 12:40 and the wicked spirits in the days of Noah? I don't know, what do you think? Chusarcik

Is Jesus talking about 2 different groups of people in the two above passages? Chusarcik
132 | 1 Peter doesn't sound like faithful dead | Matthew | Chusarcik | 93356
Let me put my question another way: It sounds like Jesus WAS referring to the faithful dead Matthew 12:40 but in 1 Peter 3:19-20 which I was given as a second reference for what Jesus did in the center of the earth (or whatever place it was that he went for 3 days) it says, "He went and preached to the spirits in prison who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built" The 1 Peter reference, on the other hand, doesn't sound like faithful dead. Why would He refer to all the faithful dead as only specifically the spirits that "disobeyed while the ark was being built". Is he speaking of the same group of people in these two passages? Thanks for your input. Chusarcik
133 | Thanks, what do you think about this? | Matthew | Chusarcik | 93317
Thanks, I much appreciate the scripture references. Based upon 1 Peter 3:18-20 it seems possible Jesus went to the center of the earth to announce His finished work on the cross to those who died anticipating His coming. One thing bothers me about that explanation, though. 1 Peter 3:19 and 20 says Jesus was preaching to spirits who DISOBEYED while Noah's ark was being built. That doesn't sound like people who died waiting for Christ to me. Also, if these verses represent ALL who died in faith prior to Christ's actual coming, why do they specifically speak only of those who disobeyed while the ark was being built? Something doesn't fit here or I'm missing something. Any comments? Chusarcik
134 | I unerstand, but that's not my question | Matthew | Chusarcik | 93314
I understand that Jesus was giving the information to try to get sinners to repent, but that is not my question. My question is, "What was the Jesus' purpose in going to the center of the earth for 3 days?" It doesn't seem He could have been preaching repentance, because those in the center of the earth were no longer living and each person must choose to believe or not believe before he dies. Can anyone answer my question? Chusarcik
135 | No point in preaching to the lost? | Matthew | Chusarcik | 93260
Why would Jesus bother to preach to those who'd already lost their chance for salvation? Doesn't each of us have to choose to believe or not believe while still living? And even if Christ had not yet come, isn't each person judged based on whether they believed in God and waited in anticipation for Christ to come? Why would he preach to the unsaved. What would it accomplish? Chusarcik |

I looked at 1 Peter 3:19 and 11 Peter 4-5 and it seems as though Jesus went to the center of the earth to give some message to disobediant angels. Does anyone have further comments on the purpose of Jesus' 3 day visit t the center of the earth? Chusarcik
