121 | Are you serious? | Bible general Archive 1 | charis | 6072
Dear Cephas, Do you seriously believe that Jesus and the Father could have separate wills? The implications of your thinking that are not very good. As to the hypothetical implications, what if...? Then the Trinity would be three Gods, or at least two, not an acceptable speculation. This would indicate doubt about the fundamental nature of the Lord God of the Bible. It would also bring us back to a fruitless argument. Peace to you in Jesus' name, charis |

124 | Ineffective prayer by believers? | James 5:16 | charis | 6017
Dear Steve, I thought your answer was very good! I especially liked the last statement. If you don't mind, I would like to make an adjustment, and ask again. Can believer's prayers be ineffective? I know you touched on this, but I think this important question is pertinent to the church. Blessings in Jesus' name, charis |

127 | How then should we live? | Jude 1:21 | charis | 5984
Saints, Are we not to "wait anxiously for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life."? I see so much focus on identifying people, places and situations in the end time through prophecy. Like so many of the messianic prophesies, we don't know! We will know when it happens, and probably not before. Even if we know bits and pieces beforehand, we are not capable of knowing the whole picture, as it has been hidden from us, and will remain hidden from us until God reveals it, at that time. The majority of this end time speculation is fruitless and meaningless, and only divides us, steering us away from serving the Lord in fellowship now. Who's at war with whom? Where will Jesus 'touch down?' When and where will the next earthquake hit? What are fingers, toes, feathers, horns, heads, tails, ears, noses, and elbows? None of the answers to these questions changes how we should live one whit. Because how we should live is in the love of God, waiting anxiously (not in anxiety or division) for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ. How then should we live? In Jesus' name, charis |

128 | Slight historical skew? | Bible general Archive 1 | charis | 5669
Dear orthodoxy, I am happy for you. Absolute faith in personal dogma is admirable. I agree that you should stand by it. I am not sure where you got 'it is simply a historical fact that the church had always baptised its infants until the Anabaptists came along in the sixteenth century and the Baptists in the eighteenth.' Please tell me from the Bible your clear references for child-or-infant baptism. Only Anabaptists and Baptists (but not all Baptists) recommend the baptism of a believer? (there is but one baptism into Christ per believer) Obviously you have not met many Pentecostals or Charismatics or independents that have strayed from your form of orthodoxy. It is possible that they were not included in your education. My friend, there are quite a few Christians that do not follow the pattern you have been taught. I can only humbly suggest that you go to a variety of churches and fellowships to broaden your outlook toward 'other' believers. This might help you in your pursuit to serve Christ by serving Christians, rather than a limited form of Christianity. Print out this conversation and ask the opinion of your teachers. As I read the Word of God, I see that the Lord desires us to be of one faith in Him, not in lockstep tradition. In any case, I personally depart from the 're-baptism' topic, and simply state that water baptism in the Bible was for believers in Christ Jesus as a gift and a strength to their walk in Him. Peace upon you in Jesus' name, charis |

131 | Why do you continue to ask? | Bible general Archive 1 | charis | 5406
Dear Cephas, I was not making accusation, simply asking what your purpose was. This question has been dealt with in great detail in previous postings (use the search tool and type 'evil') The result of this online, ongoing Bible study is that God is good, and created only good, and that evil came from Lucifer. As I said, *continuing* to ask the same question that has been duly answered, is belligerence. Perhaps this is why your pastor is unable to answer the question as you like. Again, why do you insist that God made evil? What is your purpose in presupposing that? You may notice that I am not 'banging you with doctrine,' but asking a legitimate question. Bless you in the peace of knowing that God is good. In Christ Jesus, charis |

132 | Business world or Holy Spirit? | Acts 1:26 | charis | 5338
Dear JVH0212, Good answer! According to the Bible, what were the ways that Christ's sheep heard and knew His voice, in order that they may follow and obey? The Biblical terminology would include the gifts of the Holy Spirit, such as prophecy, word of knowledge, word of wisdom, etc. to allow us to be led by God. However, these gifts are not acceptable or dead in the opinion of many. Is this why we have 'boards' and 'votes' to determine succession? Does this not sound more like the business world rather than the direction of the Holy Spirit? Food for thought... In Jesus' name, charis |

133 | Chosen by what method? | Acts 1:26 | charis | 5253
Dear Steve, Indeed, these are the qualifications for elder and deacon. I also agree that 'dynastic succession' is dangerous, and we have precious few examples in the Bible that worked well. Please, in what manner should these ministers be chosen? The Scripture above speaks of drawing lots.
134 | How did early saints know the faith? | Acts 6:7 | charis | 5248
Saints, For more than a thousand years, few believers had their own Bible, or even had personal access to one. How did they know 'the faith' in order to be obedient to it? In Christ Jesus, charis |

137 | What is a creed? | Acts 2:33 | charis | 5036
Dear Jim, First let me make it clear that though JVH0212 and I have had some lively discussion about the name into which we are baptized, and several other subjects, neither of us have ever touched on denial of the Tri-Une nature of God. Regarding creeds, they in no way supercede or replace Scripture. There are many creeds, most of them quite short. They were made by groups of men who studied the Scriptures, served God and His church with all their being. These men all had thoughts and a 'hungry heart' before God. They discussed, argued, prayed, fasted, and gave a significant portion of their lives to identify what any Christian should agree on. The results were always a 'Lowest Common Denominator' of faith in God. You are not the first to have a 'hungry heart.' But beware that your heart not be influenced by emotion and-or the conviction that you have a 'special revelation.' This is the trap of sectarianism. The Apostle's Creed, the Atanasian Creed, the Chalcedonian Creed, and the Nicene Creed (381 A.D.) are all in basic agreement on the fundamentals of Christian faith. I have also looked at the Creed of Orthodox Christian Faith and the Doctrinal Statement of the Lockman Foundation. The internet will lead you to many more. The creeds that are long-winded are always controversial and denominational, while the short creeds invariably speak to the heart and the mind the knowledge of Christ. I have read carefully your arguments, read and prayed over the Scriptures you have quoted, and find that they do not measure up to the Bible or the creeds that virtually every Christian holds as truth. Nor does the mystical belief of 'oneness' (or any variation) speak to my spirit. In Christ Jesus, charis |

138 | Who are the scribes? | NT general Archive 1 | charis | 4980
Dear Hank and prayon, History is very interesting. Since the Word is alive and pertinent, another question might be: "Who are the scribes?" In Christ Jesus, charis |

139 | Who are "we?" | NT general Archive 1 | charis | 4956
Sir, First, as said before, it is Arminian, not Armenian. Second, I am wondering why you use "We" in the beginning of the second paragraph. This denotes a plural entity seperate from the 'two schools of thought.' Who are "we?" Could it be The Sant Nirankari Mission? If so, I have read your statement of faith, and Jesus is not mentioned, but 'one Formless God.' charis |

140 | Will you join me? | Acts 2:33 | charis | 4912
Dear saints, The above verse, preceded by "This Jesus God raised up again, to which we are all witnesses." Acts 2:32 NASB, speaks clearly of the Tri-Une nature of our God, or the Trinity. In the statement of faith of our sponsors is written, "We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is the only Begotten Son of God, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary." This is a clear statement of the Three-in-One God. Call it what you will, but this is the faith of Christianity from the very beginning of the Lord Jesus' ministry on earth. Any attempt to 'unify' or 'combine' this basic, ubiquitous doctrine into 'One Entity' is not in keeping with the Bible, nor with the creed of our sponsors and purpose of this forum. I am forthwith boycotting any further discussion of the 'Oneness' or 'Jesus-only' topics. Further consideration of this line is without merit, and will only hurt this forum, and the saints in this fellowship. Will you join me in stopping this unwise waste of time? Blessings in Christ Jesus, charis |
