126 | What was the "discharge" Bible? | Bible general Archive 1 | Hank | 9314
This is interesting, TheCross. Matching the question, "What was the discharge Bible?" with your brief answer, "The first KJB they left out seven books of the Old Testament" leads to the conclusion that you are defining for the questioner what the discharge Bible is (or was). Is this it? If we're on the same page thus far, do you know why the discharge Bible was so called? It seems like such an odd name for a Bible. This is my very first exposure to the term...... You use the initials KJB -- meaning the Authorized or King James Verson (KJV)? You say in the first KJB -- the 1611 version? -- they left out seven Old Testament books. Do you have knowledge, TheCross, of (1) why they were left out -- whether by accident or design? and (2) which books were omitted. Were they books of the Jewish canon (known by Catholics as protocanonical) or of the Apocrypha (Catholic term is deuterocanonical). Of course, the Protestant Apocrypha consists of some 15 Old Testament books, which makes the number seven you mention not quite cover them..... So, if you have some fill-in information that may cover some of these little questions I've posed, please grace the forum with more facts on this rather interesting item. And. if you will, please footnote your sources. --Hank
127 | Let's talk about prayer | Bible general Archive 1 | Hank | 9232
Dear Forum Friends, this entry on prayer is like a fork with many tines, and you are invited to pick your favorite "tine" and talk about it. The topic of prayer has been dealt with on the forum to a certain degree, but no exhaustive study has been made. Prayer is something that every Christian talks about but few do enough of. So let's study prayer....... What is it?........ Why do we pray? ..... How should we pray? ...... Does God hear our prayers?..... Does He respond to them? ...... What can prayer do? ...... Does prayer have any limitations? ..... How often should we pray?..... What does "pray without ceasing" mean? ..... Can a Christian be an effective witness without prayer? ..... Why is the phrase "Thy will be done" a necessary part of prayer? .....Must absolute faith accompany prayer (please discuss reasons for your answer) ...... What kinds of prayer are there (praise, intercession, etc.) and what is the reason for each kind? ...... Does the Bible command, condemn, or is it silent on the practice of praying for the dead? ..... How powerful is the power of prayer? .... What has been your experience with prayer -- have you had prayers answered, not answered, or put "on hold"? ..... How has prayer affected your life?..... Have you found it difficult to pray at times? ...... Have you ever felt that your prayers were just not getting through to God? .... Should prayers be more fervent and more frequent during times of crisis or despair? ...... What priority do you think the Bible places on prayer? ..... Did Jesus often put prayer on the "back burner" and focus his attention on other matters? ..... Is it wrong to pray for our personal career and financial success?..... Is it wrong to pray for something we want badly -- a new car or home, a better job, a husband or wife, children, etc.?..... Is prayer a vital part of your day, every day?..... I pray that these questions will act as a springboard to a thorough and Bible-based examination and study of the topic of prayer. --Hank

134 | Called to Preach -- What is it like? | NT general Archive 1 | Hank | 8207
Having never been "called to preach" I confess total ignorance of what the experience is like. Since some of you are preachers, having answered the call, would any of you like to share with the rest of us what the experience of being called to preach is like? Is it something that occurs in a moment or is it a continuing call that keeps calling until answered? I think your answers would be instructive to members of the forum. I know they would to me. --Hank
135 | After Salvation, What? (A correction) | NT general Archive 1 | Hank | 8194
Begging your pardon and correcting a typo in my question about After Salvation, What? The phrase "recaste the question" should read "recast the question." "Recaste" sounds like I was trying to say something about a "caste system" and not succeeding very well. --Hank
136 | After Salvation, What? | Luke 9:23 | Hank | 8186
Most, if not all of us, on the forum seem to be in general agreement about what we must do to be saved. But after salvation, what obligations does the new Christian incur in his or her walk with Christ? To recaste the question, what comes after salvaton -- what do we do next? --Hank
137 | Who refuses to receive correction? | NT general Archive 1 | Hank | 8144
Steve, you "answer" with a question, "Do you refuse to receive correction?" To whom is this question directed, yourself or someone else? And to what does the "correction" refer? Being simple, I am easily confused. --Hank
138 | Paul's teachings untrustworthy? | 2 Tim 3:16 | Hank | 8079
Steve, if, as you claim, Paul may have been subject to error in his teachings not recorded, what makes you sure that his recorded teachings are free of error? After all it was Paul who penned the words of 2 Timothy 3:16. Could he, according to your assessment, have been in error when he said that all Scripture is God-breathed? If not, why not? Why should his written words be free of error and his spoken words to the churches be riddled with error, as your repeated remarks seem to indicate. Don't you feel an obligation to support your assertions with Scripture or admit to this forum that you have not given Scriptural answers?
139 | Paul's teaching: Inerrant or Fallible? | 2 Tim 3:16 | Hank | 7950
Is this to raise the possibility, Lionstrong, that Paul could have not been inerrant in some of his teachings to some of the churches he established? Paul, an Apostle chosen by our Lord to carry His gospel to the nations, could have erred in his teaching? Is this a possibility truly worthy of consideraion? --Hank
140 | Do we have a flawed New Testament? | 2 Tim 3:16 | Hank | 7944
Someone on this forum has raised the question, "Was Paul always right?" And I ask, if Paul was not always right in his teaching, do we have a flawed New Testament?
