101 | Church Age? | Acts 2:17 | wdc | 1951
Hey Charis, A couple of thoughts about Peter's statement in Acts 2:17 and the prophecy in Joel that he quotes. First, everything that Joel said would happen in the last days did not happen in Acts 2, I mean the signs in the sky, (Joel 2:30) And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. (Joel 2:31) The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come. Unless it refers back to when Christ died on the cross, there was darkness and an earthquake. I think Peter was inspired when he used the prophecy, but it was not completely fulfilled on that day. It is a prophecy with a double fulfillment so to speak. (Some would call it a partial fulfillment, with the complete fulfillment to come at the appointed time) The ultimate fulfillment will come in the last days, which we live in, during the Day of the Lord, all of the signs given by Joel will happen. I talked about this a little in my posting of 3-26-01 to your question on whether prophecy was dead or not, I think that was you. Second, in Joel, he talks about many other things happening that we are (at least I think am) pretty sure that they will not happen until the Day of the Lord, when Christ returns to defeat antichrist and establish His kingdom. I also think the last days to some extent covers what we call the Church age, and that we are nearing the end of time as we know it. Also, maybe just to incite conversation, even though Peter and Paul, esp. Paul, were inspired by the Holy Spirit in their preaching and teaching, I think they were very free with some of their applications of O. T. scripture, I mean sometime I read something of Paul where he refers back to some O.T. teaching and I can't figure out how he arrived at that, except the Lord told him. I hope this not to confusing, sometime the things that I think are clear to me, but I can't get them across to others very clear. later...wdc |

102 | So, no ministries at all? | Eph 4:11 | wdc | 1883
Just a quick thought here, I've got to go to bed. I believe one of the reasons we have so much trouble in our churchs today is because we have done away with the first gifts mentioned in Eph. 4. Just one example, a church I was a member had a great evangelist for a pastor, we baptised people and families nearly every week. Our church tripled in size in less than two years. But there was one major problem, the people were not being fed. Our pastor did not no how, because he was an evangelist. He also was very jealous of his pulpit, so the people never heard anything but John 3:16. Very soon division sprang up, and in a matter of months, the church split. I do not put all the blame on the pastor, but he surely could prevented this by seeing his weakness and using others to fill the void. We need people that God has gifted as apostles and prophets to keep the church moving forward and to keep a balance in teaching the Word. I believe the Bible is very clear on the use of these offices today. In the church were I now pastor, I use the people God's sends us to meet the needs that I am not gifted to meet, I think that is the way God meant for it to be. I would feel very sorry for the people in the congregation if I didn't see my lack and try to supply that for them. I am sleepy, later...wdc
103 | Is prophecy dead? Since when? | Matt 11:13 | wdc | 1880
Dear Charis, If prophecy is dead, then God is a liar. The Bible says in the last days that prophecy will be one of the things that God pours out on His people. (Joel 2:28) And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: We are living in the last days according to Peter in Acts 2:14 and 17. Peter points out that the prophecy of Joel was to be fulfilled in the last days, and then he says that what they saw happening was the fulfillment, meaning he thought he was in the last days, and if he was in the last days, surely we are. I think the real question or point would be, what is prophecy? The definition you gave earlier was good, it is the giving forth of God's word. If you look closely at the O.T. prophets, most of them simply repeated what God told them, they weren't really predicting, but repeating what God told them to say, "then the word of the Lord came saying...etc." I hope this helps. Remember, it is what God says that counts and not what theology or doctrine says, God says He will use prophecy in these days. But notice in the prophecy of Joel, tongues is never mentioned, but that's another question for another time. later...wdc |

104 | why did God create the world | Gen 1:1 | wdc | 1590
Dear bcbloyd, I want to thank you for your response to my question. I don't know if I have ever heard anything quite like that. Obviously, you have thought about this and have sought God's heart. Again, I thank you, you have helped me greatly. I was not doubting or questioning God, I just think about things a lot, and always ask questions. I have printed your reply and will keep it in my Bible. God bless. wdc |

105 | why did God create the world | Gen 1:1 | wdc | 1061
Something I've been thinking about for a while. God is all knowing, and a loving, merciful God. So He knew all the suffering, pain, and evil that would happen in the world. Why then did He create it in the first place and put mankind on it. Why not just not create it, if He had not created it, we would have never none it, and look at all the suffering and evil that would have been avoided. Anyone have any thoughts? wdc
106 | where has this verse gone | 1 John 5:7 | wdc | 985
The note that is used from the Scofield reference Bible is not in the early additions of Scofields notes. In other words, it was added after Scofield died. I have two Scofields, one of them from 1909, and the note is not there. These changes did not come about until recently, if you can call 30 or 40 years recently. Just thought I'd add my thoughts here. later...wdc |

107 | In Jesus' name...except baptism? | Col 3:17 | wdc | 981
Here is my thought on this subject. It is one that I have studied because I asked the same question and got the same standard answers. In Mat. 28:19 we are told this: (Mat 28:19) Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Then in the book of Acts, we see the Apostles baptizing people and they baptize them in Jesus name and not the name of the Father, Son and the Holy Ghost. Using the Bible as my guide and not men's opinion nor doctrine. I have come to this understanding. Jesus is the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost. It was in Jesus that God revealed Himself to mankind. Hebrews says, (Heb 1:1) God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, (Heb 1:2) Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; (Heb 1:3) Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; Jesus is what we know of God. Everything we learn or understand about God we pretty much learned from or through Jesus. So I believe doing everything (Col. 3:17) in the name of Jesus is doing everything in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Remember also that John 14-16 says when He, the Spirit is come, he glorify Jesus, not God. So I see everything in Jesus bringing glory to God the Father. By the way, I believe in the trinity, but in God's wisdom, He chose to reveal Himself to us in Jesus, one man, His only begotten Son. WDC |

108 | Who were the son's of God in Job? | Gen 6:4 | wdc | 242

109 | Must a woman have long hair | 1 Corinthians | wdc | 240
Here are my thoughts on this issue. People look at it in several ways, some even make it a doctrine. I think it is a none issue because of what Paul says in v. 16 of the same chapter. "We have no such custom, neither the churches of God." The problem they were having was with the temple prostitutes from the pagan temples in Corinth. Some of the practices from these temples were being brought to the church, and that was because some of the new converts were from some of these temples. Apparently hair length was an issue, or the lack of it, since the prostituted normall shaved their heads. But to answer your question, I believe Paul is saying that hair length should not be an issue, there are many more important things we need to be concerned about, such as lost souls, then how long someone's hair is. Hope this helps. |

110 | where was good hell b4 Abrahams bossom? | Luke 16:19 | wdc | 207
The good hell? has been there since God created it. I believe only became Abraham's bossom after Abraham became the Father of the Jewish nation. That is what they call it.
