101 | how to be filled with the Holy Spirit? | Acts 2:4 | prayon | 156466
Greetings Deltron, happyandfree is correct in that you must ask and believe but there are a few things that I would like to add. First you must desire in your heart for God to give you the GIFT of the Holy Spirit. If you ask with a sincere heart you will receive. If you don't feel you received it right away stay in prayer until you know that you know that you know that the Holy Spirit now lives in you. After you ask though I think is the hardest part. You must allow the Holy Spirit to take control and allow Him to show himself in ways that you might not feel comfortable with i.e. tongues. Ask God for the gift and then allow the Holy Ghost to use you as He sees fit. prayon |

102 | Beware "Another" | 2 Cor 11:4 | prayon | 156462
Greetings Victor, I have to say that I too am a veteran member of this forum and neither a fundamentalist nor a Baptist either. The members of this forum have many different viewpoints many which others think are way off base. However, we are not here to judge. Christ says we are to love our brothers and sisters in the Lord. This includes having a humble, loving spirit when addressing others - which is what we try to encourage on this forum. You do come across a little strong and judgemental however this is probably not at all the way you desired to come across. You seem to have a lot of knowledge of the Word and I hope that you remain on the forum - it will be interesting to 'study' with you. Just please tone it down some so as not to offend others. In Christ's love, prayon |

103 | Are we losing our churches to satan? | 2 Thess 2:11 | prayon | 155858
Hi JWeaver and welcome to the forum! You are correct there is no such scripture, in fact, the bible clearly states that homosexuality is an abomination to the Lord. In 2Thes 2:3 it states that in the end times there will be a great falling away. Verse 9-12 says that that "the coming of the lawless one is, according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs and lying wonders". It goes on to say tthat there will be unrighteous deception among those who will perish because they did not accept the truth that they might be saved. In v 11 it warns us that God will send those people stong delusion, that they should believe the lie. There are many who love sin and pleasure and prefer to believe a lie rather than the truth. The MacArthur study bble explains it this way: "God Himself will send judgment that insures their fate in the form of a deluding influence so that they continue to believe what is false. They accept evil as good and a lie as the truth. Thus does God use Satan and the Antichrist as His instruments of judgment (1Kin 22:19-33)". This is what is happening today not only with the lie of homosexuality but with many other issues as well. Satan can and will use pastors and churches to deceive people just as he will use anyone else. prayon |

104 | Who are "your opponents/" | Phil 1:28 | prayon | 155855
I am like you - sometimes I am also more tolerant and compromising, on the other hand though when we know that about ourselves I believe we are more on guard - at least I am. The one thing I find that I must do is pray for the spirit of discernment so that if I miss the advasary God will "wake me up". prayon

107 | Was the temple curtain repaired? | Heb 9:1 | prayon | 152383
Doc, that is an interesting point about them not wanting the curtain in disrepair, but Idon't think they would or could of trird to hide thefact that something happened considering the disappearance of the sun and the earthquake. prayon

109 | Was the temple curtain repaired? | Heb 9:1 | prayon | 152255
Greetings Songbird. I must apologise - I am moving and all my reference material is packed. I believe that the priests attempted to fix the curtain but never did. If they had there would of been a curtain between us and God but there is not. As I said I have no scriptural back-up for that at this time. prayon

112 | Did Jesus suffer from depression? | Matt 26:37 | prayon | 148760
Greetings, No He did not suffer from depression. The KJV says that He felt sorrowful and very heavy. Sorrowful means saddness or to grieve. God's Word translation says that He felt "deep anguish." The Message bible says that He felt "agonizing sorrow". He was filled with such great sorrow because of what wash happening that He felt weighed down but not depressed. prayon |

115 | Simon didn't HEAR but SAW something | Acts 8:18 | prayon | 148621
Steve you and i could go round and round forever, but I am stopping it here. You believe that I am on dangerous ground and am making assumptions well if I am I am in some very good company - These people believe that the sign Simon saw was speaking in tongues- the same as I do: Albert Barnes (see his Notes on the Bible) John Gill ( See his exposition on the bible) Matthew Henry (see his commentary) Adam Clarke (see his commentary John MacArthur(see his study bible) Robertson (See Robertson's Word Pictures) These are some very wise and knowledgeable men whose work has been used for centuries. I doubt they are all wrong. prayon |

116 | Being filled w/ the Spirit mean tongues? | Acts 2:4 | prayon | 148613
The bible says Simon "saw". We know that the Holy Spirit can not be seen with the physical eye since He is a Spirit. But he "saw" or witnessed the power of speaking in tongues If we look at Acts 19:6. (And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied)and Acts 22:4 (And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance) we know that with the laying on of hands and the receiving of the Holy Spirit (Acts 8:17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost) that they spoke in tongues. So what Simon "saw" was the evidence of the Holy Spirit which is speaking in tongues. prayon ps I agree it would of been much easier if he would of used the word heard instead of saw.... |

118 | Who groans - us or the Holy Spirit? | Rom 8:26 | prayon | 148587
I take this statement another way - not that we do not know how to pray - We do, Jesus taught us in Matt 5:5-15. I believe that this statement means that we do not always know what we need to pray for. Too many times the flesh enters into our prayers and we pray for what our flesh would want which is not necessarily what we need. prayon |

119 | Tongues speaking selfish w/o interteper? | 1 Cor 14:4 | prayon | 148586
Edify means to build up. Verse 2 says that "When a person speaks in another language, he doesn't speak to people but to God." (GW) So what you are saying is that it is selfish of me to want to build myself up spiritually? Verse 2 says that So me speaking to God in another language to build myself up is selfish? prayon |

120 | Where's speaking in tongues - in context | John 14:26 | prayon | 148585
No it doesn't specifically say tongues, When you pray in tongues you are very aware of the Holy Spirit which is dwelling inside you. It is very easy when we are not conscious of His presense to become irratated or frustrated, but the more you let Him show His presense verbally the more aware you are of Him. prayon
