101 | why blood for sin-offering? | Heb 9:22 | Timothy Paul | 59374
turtlesrcool; Let me share some insight that was related to me by no one special, just someone I respect. In the Old Testament a man was to be circumsized to enter into the covenant w/ God. This was the shedding of blood. (Thank you for Heb 9:22 above) When Jesus was killed on the cross, The Sinless died for the Sinful. He endured the most shameful execution, committing the Ultimate Sacrifice. There is nothing that is not covered under this sacrifice, the sacrifice to end all sacrifice. Nothing can ever be added to this sacrifice, since God paid the highest possible price when He gave His only Son. To attempt to add anything at all to this conclusion is to say that something was left undone, that Jesus' sacrifice was incomplete, that we are so good that the act is incomplete without our input. so now, in New Testament times, the circumcision of the male's foreskin is more a matter of personal hygiene than anything else. there is no more call for the shedding of blood. the circumcision that is called for today is the circumcision of the spirit, but that is a whole new topic w/ a new ID# peace and grace, tim |

104 | please, where do races come from ? | Not Specified | Timothy Paul | 59197
A friend says she believes in spirits, but she does not believe in the Holy Spitit, because she feels the Bible is "bunk". Her main reason is that no way, in her mind can people of different skin colors come from the same set of parents, a la Adam and Eve. "Nor does" in her words does the Bible ever try to explain this. Please help me send the right message to this angry young lady, I promised I would try to find the answer. I Thank you, and so will "Nicole" Faithfully, Tim |

109 | Was David physiacally/spiritually vexed? | Ps 119:83 | Timothy Paul | 59190
Thank you, Makarios. I am unable to take any credit however, but must transfer all credit to this excellent site we all share, as well as the blessedly inspired commentary by the late great Matthew Henry. Blessings in bounteous abundance to you, and all whom these posts may reach, in His Mighty and Glorious name, Jesus. Amen Tim |

110 | Was David physiacally/spiritually vexed? | Ps 119:83 | Timothy Paul | 59067
In addition to our brother Makarios' splendid post, let me add some thoughts from my most favorite commentator, Matthew Henry (?- 1714). Also, to keep in harmony with Makarios, I suggest you substitute "the psalmist", as the author wherever David is given (supposed) credit: "David begs God would make haste to comfort him, 1. Because his affliction was great, and therefore he was an object of God’s pity: Lord, make haste to help me, for I have become like a bottle in the smoke, a leathern bottle, which, if it hung any while in the smoke, was not only blackened with soot, but dried, and parched, and shrivelled up. David was thus wasted by age, and sickness, and sorrow. See how affliction will mortify the strongest and stoutest of men! David had been of a ruddy countenance, as fresh as a rose; but now he is withered, his colour is gone, his cheeks are furrowed. Thus does man’s beauty consume under God’s rebukes, as a moth fretting a garment. A bottle, when it is thus wrinkled with smoke, is thrown by, and there is no more use of it. Who will put wine into such old bottles? Thus was David, in his low estate, looked upon as a despised broken vessel, and as a vessel in which there was no pleasure. Good men, when they are drooping and melancholy, sometimes think themselves more slighted than really they are. 2. Because, though his affliction was great, yet it had not driven him from his duty, and therefore he was within the reach of God’s promise: Yet do I not forget thy statutes. Whatever our outward condition is we must not cool in our affection to the word of God, nor let that slip out of our minds; no care, no grief, must crowd that out. As some drink and forget the law (Prov. 31:5), so others weep and forget the law; but we must in every condition, both prosperous and adverse, have the things of God in remembrance; and, if we be mindful of God’s statutes, we may pray and hope that he will be mindful of our sorrows, though for a time he seems to forget us." Matthew Henry. I hope this adds some assistance (o: Sincerely, Tim |

111 | How to correct ungodly co-workers? | 1 Tim 1:9 | Timothy Paul | 59061
How can I relate to co-workers that are constantly cursing God's name and breaking His laws? I have some authority in my position, but when you preach "foolishness to the unspiritual" (1Cor. 2:14), They will lose all respect for your authority. This is a Christian based construction company, so please send as many ideas as possible, I'm able to do things that would be frowned upon in other workplaces. I'm even thinking of printing Bible passages to post near the time clock. Any verse suggestions? |

113 | "Read and hear" or "read and understand" | Rev 1:3 | Timothy Paul | 57955
Good question, hp (: I must agree w/Steve Here is how I arrived at this conclusion, feel free to air your own points: The first two meanings of HEAR (vt), in Webster's New World College Dictionary are, 1, to perceive sounds through auditory stimulation, 2, to listen and consider, a,)to take notice of; pay attention b,) to listen to officially, also e,) to understand. so HEAR also means to understand, hence we are instructed to read as well as hear. Let me relate something I read in gradeschool, "To understand is to stand under, which is to look up to, which is a good way to understand." I do agree w/you as the latter translation being better (clearer) than the former, but to truly understand, we must take into consideration the age and culture in which God chose to hand these words down to us for our benefit. Thank Him for His illumination as you read His words (Psa. 119:105)and the wisdom that comes from above (James 3:17) shall be pure, then peaceable, gentle, [and] easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. May God Bless, Tim |

114 | In simplicity and sincerity of God? | 2 Cor 1:12 | Timothy Paul | 57945
Hi Ray, Good to hear from you. Your questions are provoking as well as enlightening, however I must disagree with your stand on capitalization on this issue. This is because I feel that the word 'godly' is used as an adjective, describing the sincerity of the apostle Paul,( He was not a man who seemed to be one thing and was another, but a man of sincerity.) and does not concern this conversation with the sincerity of God Himself, who is completely genuine without fail. As to the phrase 'godly jealousy' I am prompted to ask, Could there BE such a thing? I was taught, albeit recently, to be zealous, not jealous. Man's jealousy I consider a sin along with envy and covetousness, for it means not wanting the very best for our brethren, or feeling that we are more deserving of what they have than they themselves are. Looking at it thusly, is anyone more deserving of ANY blessings in life? (We already enjoy much more than we can ever earn or deserve). This could place 'godly sorrow' under the same scrutiny. Now to 'godly'jealousy, I am moved to my favorite Webster's dictionary, that defines godly as something of or from God (cap). This means if it is from God, He no longer is in possession or control, but by divine permission has given control of this emotion over to His blessed servant Paul, to wield in the exercise of God's Will, ie, the propagation of the church. Are you with me so far on this, Brother Ray? Be blessed and be a blessing! Tim |

117 | Should We Get Married Again? | Matt 19:4 | Timothy Paul | 56538
Dear AB, Now, after 10 days time, I hope you have been given some insight by the Supreme Counselor, the Holy Spirit. "But the wisdom from above is first of all pure (undefiled); then it is peace-loving, courteous (considerate, gentle). [It is willing to] yield to reason, full of compassion and good fruits; it is wholehearted and straightforward, impartial and unfeigned (free from doubts, wavering, and insincerity)." (James 3:17)NASB Lets pray that the lines of communication will be opened and believe on the name of Jesus that His will shall be accomplished. Peace, Tim |

118 | any thought s on this | 1 Pet 3:19 | Timothy Paul | 56122
christian7, more thoughts on the verse from Peter, whose name comes from 'petra' and means stone, Peter refers to Christ as the 'Living stone'(1Pe 2:4) and we, vs.5, are like living stones. God sent His Son as the cornerstone in the spiritual temple that is being built to this day. Jesus is the foundation, support and underpinning of the church, and is the most critical piece of the structure. This cornerstone posseses invincible strength and everlasting duration and we are able to rely on Him for protection and security. We are also capable of using this stone as a weapon against the enemy. My point here is, instead of trying to establish who the spirits were that Jesus went to preach to, we should be compelled towards discovering the message that was preached to these souls. This message likely had much to do with how we are inclined to follow the majority, yet we are commanded otherwise. Just think of the 8 that were saved in the ark, who received everlasting life, and the 8 million who perished and received eternal damnation. Thank you for your time in sharing these thoughts, may God Bless all of you and all of yours. |

Hi Christian7, thanks for the interesting question. You are able to do a 'quick search'and enter ID# 24390 to see an excellent response by Tim Moran, as brother Tim points out, this may very well lead to more questions than answers. This leads me to search favorite commentaries, and to quote David Guzic, he says, a. Apparently, this work was done in the period after Jesus' death, but before His first appearance as resurrected to the disciples; Jesus went to Hades - the abode of the dead - and preached to the spirits there b. Are these spirits demonic spirits or human spirits? Their disobedience was in the days of Noah; we have evidence that this was a time of gross sin for both demons and humans, when there was an ungodly co-mingling of humans and demons (Genesis 6:1-2) c. Why would Jesus preach to these imprisoned spirits? In all probability, this was preaching (the proclamation of God's message) but not evangelism (the proclamation of good news); Jesus probably preached judgment to these disobedient spirits d. Some feel that this preaching was done by Jesus to the people of Noah's time, in Noah's time; when Peter refers to their imprisonment, he refers to their current state, not their state when Jesus preached to them - preaching through Noah (or Enoch) i. "This passage, once cleared of misunderstanding, should also function today as an encouragement to us to be bold in our witness (as Noah was), to be confident that, though we may be few, God will certainly save us (as he did Noah), and to remind us that just as certainly as the flood eventually came, so final judgment will certainly come to our world as well, and Christ will ultimately triumph over all evil in the universe." (Grudem) I hope this has what you were looking for, God Bless, Tim |

120 | Should We Get Married Again? | Heb 13:4 | Timothy Paul | 55473
Hi A B and welcome :o) It is terribly sad that the enemy succeeded in tearing apart your marriage after such a long time together. Ecc 4:12 relates, "And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken" (The third member in the cord of course is Jesus). While God hates divorce(Mal 2:16), He still loves the divorced. The reason that I feel He hates divorce is because of the sin that we are tempted into committing after the seperation. -okay, ONE of the reasons anyway. I hope your daughter is well and feel bad that it took a tragedy to draw you two to consider reconciliation. If your husband refuses to do devotions w/you, you should respect his feelings and give it time for his reasons to surface. After all, do you want him to do this w/you unwillingly? Matt. 6:6, "But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly." Being a divorced addict, I can sympathize w/your dilemna. After being saved and teaching my ex about the biblical view of divorce, she accepted a ring from me but that did not last either. This time I feel her pride kept her from respecting me enough to accept my past failures, but that would only be a part of it so I won't give you a one sided story. It is well that you two go to church together so for now I would suggest you trust in Jesus to send you the Counsel of the Holy Spirit, remember the fruit of the Spirit (Eph. 5:9; Gal. 5:22, -notice the word fruit is singular, not plural) Also, memorize (and try your best to practice 1Cor 13:4-5): "4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. I sincerely hope I have given some useful biblical advice here, there is lots more where that came from. Bless God and God bless. Tim |
