Kalos, Using my NIV Bible I came up with the following verse. "Therefore, dear friends, since you already know this, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of lawless men and fall from your secure position." 2 Peter 3:17 I believe that the above verse was addressed to believers indicated in this verse by the words, "dear friends" "you" and "your" Secondly they must have possessed (present tense) a secure position Thirdly, there was the warning of the possibility of falling from that secure position which they presently enjoyed. So in light of that, the believers were told to "be on their guard" |

John 3:15 That whosoever believeth (pisteuo - a verb) in him should not (not cannot, or will not) perish, but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth (pisteuo- a verb) in him should not ( not cannot or will not) perish, but have everlasting life. in him should not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:36 He that believeth (pisteuo - a verb, denoting ongoing and continious action) on the Son hath (echo - to hold one's self to a thing, to lay hold of a thing, to adhere or cling to) everlasting life: For John 5:24 Same as previous verses. ("hath everlasting life" denotes present possession, and future possession only for those who continue in the faith) John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: (The sheep are those who continue to hear and follow Him) 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any [man] pluck them out of my hand. (This is the promise for the ones who persevere in the faith. "Eternal Security" involves perseverance in the faith. The promise of eternal life is to the "overcomers" Rev. 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels. Concerning Rom. 8:35, 37-39 Scripture says sin separtates us from God. Isaiah 59:2 Eph 1:12 That we should be (not necesssarily will be, but should be. it's is within God's perfect will that we should be, but then there is God's permissive will also) to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. 13 In whom ye also [trusted], after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14 Which is the earnest (arrhabon - money which in purchases is given as a pledge or downpayment that the full amount will subsequently be paid.) of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory. The earnest is only a downpayment Eph 4:30 also mentions the possibility of grieving the Holy Spirit, along with the admonition not to. Phil 1:6 God continues to abide in those who continue to abide in Him see John 15:4. Abide is key here as it is throughout God's word Heb. 10:12-14 merely speaks about the ones who are sanctified. Not about whether salvation can be lost or not 1Pet. 1:3 Blessed [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope (elpis - expectation of eternal salvation - I don't see how hope and assurance can be the same. I can hope for many things. That does not mean I will necessarily have all I hope for.) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, (but were not home to fill the spot reserved for us, which is yet future.) 5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. (Notice the ones who are kept are not merely kept but they are kept by faith - our faith. This also talks about salvation which is to be revealed in the last time. That means it has not as yet been revealed) Concerning the words "Who are kept by the power of God through faith" God's word also says, " Jude 1:21 Keep yourselves in the love of God," So we see we are kept as we keep. In this my reply I showed how the verses you mentioned do not to me at least support the concept of unconditional eternal security" You may differ I respect that |

Joe, While what you say is true, what is in the following verse of the Bible is also true. Jude 1:21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, 1 Peter 1:5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. We are kept as we keep on abiding or clinging to Him see John 15:4 also I in Him and He in me - a joint relatinship with Him. A partnership if you will, Continual abiding. |

I like the Amplified rendition that you posted Amplified. For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him SHALL NOT perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life. The clinging that is mentioned here is what I tried to somewhat speak about in my last reply. The clinging to Him is partially our responsibility. |

so then how do you explain "Keep yourselves in the love of God" in the verse I posted in my last reply? I will repaste at this time Jude 1:21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. |

Joe, You asked "Where did you get the idea of a "partnership" with God?" The concept is in the term abiding" John 15:4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it. abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. It's a joint co-operative relationship. He remains in us as we remain connected to Him. We have by faith entered into a bi-lateral, relationship with Christ. The term abide or remain is a point John continuiosly tried to drive home to us, both in his gospel and in his Epistles. You also mentioned the verse where it says, "He is able to keep us" And that is true. He truly is able to keep us. Are we willing let Him. We are not puppets or pawns in a chess game are we? Notice that verse does not say that He will keep us, it only states that He is able to do so. I do not boast of any good works, because I have none. If my life produces any good works, they are works that He accomplished through me as I continue to reamin abiding in Him, and He in me. (Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit saith the Lord) I am powerless. It's all Him. You don't believe we are puppets in His hands do you? |

Amen to that. I guess there are many of us that just like to hash out some of the more controversial passages of Scripture. For me it's not to try to convert people to my thinking or way of interpreting Scripture. In fact I may be wrong about certain things I believe. I may be sincere, but I could be sincerely wrong. I once thought "once saved always saved" was Bibical. But after a more careful examination of God's word, I cannot any longer accept that teaching. Others can, and so be it. Still it makes for interesting discussion.

Kalos, Amen to that. However you stated: "I will never be convinced that it is possible for one who has received salvation by faith to lose his salvation." To that I say: Never say never Thank you also for the kind words and the spirit of love demonstrated in your reply |

After reading your comments, I feel led to ask you the following questions so as to know how to better respond to some of your comments. So heres the questions. Is a man predestinated by God to salvation because he believes in Christ or is he enabled to believe in Christ because he is predestinated? Do you believe the foreknowledge of God must be considered when discussing His Soveriegnity? |

To that I will simply repeat what you said in your first reply to me. You said: "When it all comes down to the bottom line though, it doesn't really matter which way you believe. As long as you have accepted Christ in your life, and continue to believe and not reject Him, you will be saved." And again to that I say Amen |

Reformed, I just saw for the first time something in the Scripture you posted. Matt 18:12 "What do you think? If any man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go and search for the one that is straying? Matt 18:13,14 "If it turns out that he finds it, truly I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine which have not gone astray. "So it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones perish." I noticed that part of that text says, "If it turns out that he finds it, truly I say to you, he rejoices over it" Does not the positive conditional term, "If it turns out that he finds it," also imply at the same time the negative possibility also. If it turns out that he does not find it? I know the text ends with the following words, "it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones perish." And that also begs the question, what if the one straying has no desire to return? I realize it's not the will of God that any perish, and that speaks of God's will, but hasn't God given us a limited free will also? Does God allow us freedom to operate within the designed limits somewhere between God's perfect will, and His permissive will? |

Reformed, you posted the following comment: "when they stumble in sin God uses it to work sanctification inteir lives (humility, thanksgiving etc.)." On that one I need to ask, where in the Bible does it specifically say that God uses our sin to work sanctification in their lives? In my understanding of the term "sanctification" it means, separated from sin unto God for acts of service. To resist temptation seems more like a step in the direction of sanctification, than as you state, ""when they stumble in sin God uses it to work sanctification inteir lives" Scripture says, "1 Pet. 1:22 ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit. 2 Tim 2:21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, [and] prepared unto every good work. Just to clear this up, the sanctification I mention is the progressive sanctification rather than initial sanctification Obedience, rather than disobedience is the pathway to holiness |

Reformed, Ok at least I now understand where your coming from. I do not entirely agree with your views on this, but I do respect your opinion concerning this, and thank you for the time you've taken to answer my questions. I especially cannot accept the fact that God predestinates some to hell. I would like to discuss this in more detail, using Scripture to support why I don't accept that idea, but I do not presently have the time. I have to back my bags and leave home for a week. But thank you for your views on this. I will hopefully get another chance to swap views on this after I return from my trip God bless you - Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another. (Romans 14:19) |

Reformed, you said, "You do not have an accurate understanding of calvinism" Do I need to understand Calvinism before I can understand Scripture? If so then how did the early apostles understand Scripture who lived before Calvin? Is the Holy Spirit able to teach and guide us in God's word, or do we need to receive our interpretation from men? Does Scripture have to agree with Calvinism? Or does Calvinism need to agree with Scripture? If what I post disagrees with Calvinism is that dishonoring Scripture? Can orthodox teaching exist without Calvinism or Arminianism, terms which I have not mentioned, neither do I care to? Calvinism and Arminianism divides, but Christ Jesus unites. Neither do I intend to be unkind, but I don't care what Calvin, Arminius, or any of their disciples taught. My main concern is: "Nevertheless what saith the scripture?" (Gal. 4:30a) See ya when I return from my trip in about a week. God Bless |

Agreed; Wouldn't it be nice if we prepared our Sunday meal on Saturday, and once again called the day before the Sabbath, the preparation day? That way we would not have any excuses or distractions in our lives to prevent us from fully observing the Sabbath day. Many people say, "I won't cook on the Sabbath day, but then go to a resturant and have other people cook their food for them. Wouldn't it be nice if places of business were closed on the Sabbath (Sunday) in my instance to allow employees who work at them the opportunity to be able to attend worship services? I remember when we had "Blue Laws" and business establishments like resturants, stores, etc. were closed on Sunday until after 12:00 noon. Yes it truly would be wonderful to go back to those days, but it is highly unlikely. However we can personally honor the Sabbath, by making preparations on Saturday, not out of a legalistic mindset, but rather because we individually desire to honor God, and observe the Sabbath from the heart, not compulsion.

Thanks for the reply. You stated, "Obviously, if God is sovereign, then it follows there's nothing in the universe that happens outside of God's will" I agree with you that God is Sovereign, and He does whatever He wills to do, and nothing happens thats outside of His will, and nothing catches Him by surprise. He knows the beginning of a matter, and also the end of the matter. But look at the following verse. 2 Pet. 3:9 THE LORD IS NOT slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not WILLING THAT ANY SHOULD PERISH, but that all should come to repentance. Notice, that verse says, "the Lord ... is not willing that any should perish" That verse talks about the Lord's will, and how the Lord's will is that none perish. But yet we know that the Bible speaks about those who will perish. Not everyone will be saved. So does the fact that the Lord wills all to be saved, combined with the fact, that not all will be saved, diminish His sovereignity? Personally I don't think it does. I believe God gave mankind a will also, and man often exercises His God given freedom of choice to disobey God. But yet God permits or allows man to choose obedience or disobedience. Only a Sovereign God could grant individual choice, which I call free will, and along with free will comes individual responsibility. |

You stated "But the serpent that was the first creature out of hell(not paradise) was completly evil." My question is: Is the serpent Satan, and if so, was the serpent ever in God's presence in His heavenly abode? You also stated "So the world could continue forever. In the middle of the Garden was the tree of Good and bad. Probably another creature that God created." So by that, do you mean to imply that the tree in the middle of the Garden was probably a creature and not an actual tree?" (thats the first time I've heard that one) Lastly you stated, "I dont think Cain drowned in the flood. He might have been one of Noahs son." So then, do you believe the Bible is wrong when it says Cain was the son of Adam and Eve? ( Gen. 4:1 And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.) Do you believe what the Bible says |

Can you Bibically with Scripture support your thoughts about reincarnation? Can you find any verse in the Bible that mentions that the tree of good and evil was a creature, and not a tree as the text says?
