101 | crucifiction discrepensies? | John 18:37 | prayon | 146965
Greetings 1way, First you have to remember that there were 4 different people writing the gospels. Each gospel is written in a different style with a different focus. Luke being a physician was more aware of details than the others therefore his book will be much more detailed. John's book focuses on the Diety of Christ. In His answer in John, John goes into more detail because the diety of Christ was being discussed. Different books will focus on different aspects of the same conversation or event. This is what was happening here. The Tables: The two times you mentioned (in Matthew and in Mark) are one in the same. The other instance you were referring to is in John 2:13-17. This was on the Passover at the beginning of Jesus ministry. Because the Jews never recognized the authority of Jesus as the Messiah. Instead they rejected His message making repeated cleansing of the temple highly probable. Hope this answers your questions. prayon |

103 | How many trials did Jesus attend? | John | prayon | 146910
Greetings swaimj, Here is the chronilogical sequence of that night: 1) The Last supper - where Christ washed the feet of the disciple, broke bread and prayed. 2) He then went to the garden to pray. 3) In the garden He was arrested by the Jews 4) From there He went to appear before Annas (who was Caiaphas father-in-law) where the first Jewish trial was. This was an informal examination. 5) Annas sent Him to appear before Caiaphas which was the 2nd Jewish trial. The purpose of this trial was to seek false testimony against Him. Theyt chargeed HIm with blasphemy instead (He supposedly blasphemized when He said that He would tear down the temple in 3 days). The bottom line was that they just wanted to put Him to death. Blasphemy was an excuse for them but in reality He died for our sins. 6) Caiphas then sent Him to Pilate. This was the first Roman trial. Pilate interagated Him and found no fault in Him. 7) Pilate sent Him to Herod where He was tried again. Herod was happy to see Him because he was convinced that he would be able to see a miracle. But Christ remained silent. 8) Herod sent Him back to Pilate where He had His second Roman trial. Pilate wanted to let Him go because he knew He was not guilty of anything and he had recognized the jealousy of the Jews. Even his wife told him not to become involved. Pilate was starting to believe that He was the Son of God. Pilate tried to let Him go by proclaiming His innocence so he had Him beat to appease the people. He also offered to release Him according to the Jewish Passover custom. However, when the people yelled if you let this man go you are not Caesar's friend - Whoever makes himself a king speaks against Caesar. Pilate then washed his hands of the affair and handed Him over to the Jews who crucified Him. It is important to note that whole trial was illegal according to Jewish law for the following reasons: 1) Before the trial began it was determinded that Jesus was guilty. Law was that you had to be proven guilty 2) False witnesses were brought to testify against Jesus. 3) No defense for Jesus sought or allowed 4) Trial conducted at night - according to their laws trials must be held during the day 5) High Priest put Jesus under oath then incriminated Him for what He said. 6) Serious charges were only to be tried in the Sanhedrin's meeting place, not in the high priests palace. Hope this answers your questions. Susan |

Greetings and welcome to the forum! I am soooo happy that you are seeking the truth! There are many bibles that are very accurate. The International Bible society has a sight that might help you - http://www.ibs.org/bibles/translations/index.php. It compares each version of the bible. I would pick the one that you can understand the best. I like the God's Word Version and I also use the McArthur Study Bible. Another site that I recommend to everyone is www.e-sword.net. There are many bibles that you can download onto your computer and also has many commentaries and dictionaries to help you in your search for the truth. prayon |

108 | Why was John baptizing Jesus? | Matt 3:15 | prayon | 145301
Greetings, Matt 3:14 tells us that John knew that Jesus was the son of God, "But John tried to stop him and said, "I need to be baptized by you. Why are you coming to me?". Jesus was baptized because He needed to be identified with sinnners. The act of baptism was a necessary part of the righteousness He secured for sinners. It also pictured His death and resurrection and therefore prefigured the significance of Christian baptism. McArthur Study Bible). prayon

110 | Do you think there are modern day prophe | Acts 2:17 | prayon | 145253
Greetings and welcome to the forum, Yes there are definitly modern prophets. Both Acts 2:17 and Joel 2:28 tell us that "Act 2:17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams". In addition, in the 24th chapter of Matthew Jesus tells us that false messiahs and false prophets will appear and will deceive many. All 3 of these verses ssure us that there are phophets today. prayon |

Deu 13:4: Worship the LORD your God, fear him, obey his commands, listen to what he says, serve him, and be loyal to him. prayon Psa 29:2 Give to the LORD the glory his name deserves. Worship the LORD in his holy splendor. Mat 4:10 Jesus said to him, "Go away, Satan! Scripture says, 'Worship the Lord your God and serve only him.'" prayon |

Greetings, I just wanted to add one thing to searchers reply. In addition to what he said you can also speak negative things into your life. For example if you continuously say can my car is old and about to break down then pretty soon your car will break down because you have spoken it into existance. But if you say my car is old but it has a lot longer before it is going to stop running, you will be amazed how long that car will last. prayon

114 | Spirit Baptism | Acts 8:12 | prayon | 145083
Greetings, I don't know if recommended is the word - I think maybe choice is a better word. Each believer has a choice to accept the gift of God or say no to it. I personally think that all believers should ask God for it. Why would any one not want what God is offering to them? And why would someone want to have only "a piece of the pie when they can have the whole thing". I have known people who were "baptized" with the Holy Spirit by the laying on of hands and I know people who were baptized through just prayer. The gift is just as available now as it was then. God is the same today, as He was yesterday. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is when you truly become filled with the Spirit. Please feel free to ask any questions you have. prayon |

115 | Why Phillip not lay hand Samaritans? | Acts 8:12 | prayon | 145009
Greetings, Yes the baptism of the Holy Spirit is different from receiving salvation. When you are baptized with the Holy Spirit you receive the power of the Holy Spirit (Act 1:8). Power is transated 'dunamis' in Greek which means strength power, ability. So being baptized with the Spirit gives the believer a power or ability that he did not have before. This power ia a gift from God (Luke 11:13; Acts 8:20) and is available to ALL believers who ask for it. It is used in all sorts of ways - for furthering the gospel (Acts 1:8), for prayer (Rom 8:26), for comfort (Acts 9:31), ability to speak what needs to be heard (Luke 12:12), helper (John 14:26), to speak in tongues (Acts 2:4), and joy (Rom 14:17). Peter was an evangelist. He hasd the gift of healings and working of miracles. As to why he didn't lay his hands on them John Gills Exposition of the bible puts it this way "Philip; who though he had these gifts, yet had not a power to lay on hands, and thereby convey them unto others; he perceived that this was purely apostolical". Hope this gives you a better understanding. If you have more questions feel free to ask. prayon |

117 | What do you think? | Luke 6:42 | prayon | 144864
Greetings, What you say is very sad. Too many of God's churches judge others which is exactly what Jesus told us not to do. Many do it because of what their appearance looks like, some for other reasons. It sounds as if this is what happened at this church. For whatever reason the church judged this man and found him unworthy of going to their church. The reason he is welcome in another church is because the newer church is not judging him. We are told to hate the sin but love the sinner. Because many churches don't too many people are "run out of church" and never return because of the past experience, thus keeping them out of church and away from a relationship with God. Hope this helps. prayon |

118 | How could Esau forgive Jacob? | Gen 33:4 | prayon | 144858
Greetings and welcome to the forum! The bible does not say specifically but it does tell us that when Jacob looked into Esau's face he said " I've seen your face as if I were seeing the face of God, and yet you welcomed me so warmly. That indeed shows us that Esau forgave Jacob. There could of been a couple reasons. It could of been because of Jacob's prayers or it could of been because of God changing the hearts of the brothers. prayon
119 | Any insight on the life of Jeremiah? | Jeremiah | prayon | 144855
Greetings and welcome to the forum! Jeremiah did indeed have a great calling on his life! He is one of the most colorful figures in Hebrew history. More isknown about his personality and character than any other OT prophet. Jeremiah was the son of Hilkiah, the priest, from Anathoth in the land of Benjamin. He heard the call on his life when he was between jut 14-20. Jeremiah, a man of prayer, prophesied for up to 40 years when he died in Egypt about 2 years after the fall of Jerusalem to the Chaldeans in 586 BC. He was known as the "weeping prophet". He is also known as the prophet of the last hour before the destruction of Judah. He preached the coming judgment and counseled Judah to repen and submit to Babylon to remain in the land of Judah. He had such a compassion for his people that it moved him to tears. Being very young when called to the prophetic office, he endeavored to excuse himself on account of his youth and incapacity for the work; but, being overruled by the Divine authority, he undertook the task, and performed it with matchless zeal and fidelity in the midst of a most crooked and perverse people, by whom he was continually persecuted, and whom he boldly reproved, often at the hazard of his life. During his life as a prophet he was threatened, tried for his life, put in stocks, forced to flee from Jehoiakim, publicly humiliated by a false prophet and thrown into a pit. For more information see http://www.wls.wels.net/Publications/Theologia/vol2no1/ToppeJeremiah/ToppeJeremiah.htm Hope this helps. prayon |
