1 | Where does it say, "... Few will enter.. | Not Specified | warsaw | 99771
I have been trying to find the scripture that says something like, "... few will enter the Kingdom of God..." I remember it being in the NT in one of Pauls letters. I'm aware of where it mentions it in Matthew 7:21, but that isn't the scripture I am refering to. BTW: This is a great web forum, just found it today. Thanks in advance, Mike |

2 | Gift of speaking in tongues for all? | Bible general Archive 3 | warsaw | 167999
I agree with you completly when you say, "Every single letter of the Word of God is important". Some are chrismatic... others are not. It's a matter of what a person believes the word says. Speaking in tongues is a secondary issue. The important thing is who Jesus is and what he means to us. We are ALL brothers and sisters in Christ. It's interesting to hear other peoples opinions about what the Word says. We have to be careful not to scripture pluck. (you know when a person "plucks" a scripture from here and there and builds a belief system that is totally out of context.) Each book in the Bible had a reason. Each sentence is not exclusive of all the others around it. For example: In 1 Cor 14:14, "For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful." In other words, if I am praying in a language that I do not understand (nor the people around me), then "my" spirit prays, but I don't know what I am saying. He did not say "the Holy Spirit" is praying through me. In Romans 8:26, "In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express." This is clearly refering to the Holy Spirit because it refers to "himself". In 1 Corinthians, the church had some serious issues, one of which was Spiritual Gifts. It appears that people were especially abusing the gift of Speaking in Tongues. That's why he makes the reference in 1 Cor 14:14. (In my opinion). Your brother in Christ, mike |

I have not seen anything in scripture that says a person must speak in tongues to in order to have the Holy Spirit. In fact, whether you are charismatic or not, if you read "1st Corinthians Chapters 12 and 13" Paul confirms the fact that not everyone has the gift of speaking in tongues. Also Chapter 13 suggest that certain spiritual gifts were going to fade away, one of which is the gift of speaking in tongues. 1st Corinthians 13:13 "And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." Mike |

4 | Other gifts throughout history? | Bible general Archive 2 | warsaw | 131818
Excellent reply Doc! There seems to be such an emphasis on “speaking in tongues” in the discussion of spiritual gifts. Have you read anything that shows historical evidence of the “other” spiritual gifts consistently taking place throughout history? Your brother in Christ, Mike |

Ed, I respect everyone’s beliefs. I don’t understand some people’s predisposition to either “prove” or “disprove” speaking in tongues. What is the purpose of speaking in tongues? (1 Corinthians 14:22 ) If “speaking in tongues” still occurs today, then there is no need for a discussion as to “if”. Anyone that doubts it can go a Full Gospel church and witness it. They can witness what has been discussed and decide for themselves. Doesn’t the Bible tell us that the Holy Spirit will instruct us? (John 14:26) If “tongues” is in fact still occurring today, then I rejoice to the mere thought of it. It would be glorious to hear someone speak in tongues, but what would be even more glorious is to hear the new prophecies that the Lord is sending us. I have discussed this topic many times over the years. Each group used the same scriptures to prove their position on the matter. It’s the nature of mankind. We tend to have our beliefs and bend what we read to fit into our beliefs. I will not denounce either school of thought on the matter. In either case, I live by faith not by sight. (2 Corinthians 1:7) I thank the Lord for the sacrifice He made for me on the cross. While I wasn’t there that day I still know what I read to be true. I am thankful that the Holy Sprit dwells within me, instructs me, and comforts me daily. Your brother in Christ, Mike |

7 | can women preach gods word to people? | Titus 2:3 | warsaw | 167991
The qualification for an Elder/Overseer does require them to be male. (1Timothy 3:1-7) Check out the response to your question at http://www.gotquestions.org/women-pastors.html It words the answer much better than I can. Remember, it's not about a womans ability, mental capacity, or worth. It's simply the way God designed the church to be administered. Older wiser women should be teaching the younger women. In fact, that is one thing that is lacking in todays church's. (in my opinion based on my experience) In fact, the men of the church should be instructed in the same manner (by older/wiser men), so that they can become better men in Christ. Yours in Christ, Mike |
