1 | Bride - Church or New Jerusalem? | Not Specified | skccab | 185869
Hi all I have so enjoyed reading everyone's questions, answers and comments. I'm gonna take the home page up on it's offer and ask a question. It's one that I stood firmly on before, back in the 70's but now I'm not so sure, so here goes. Why does everyone call the church the Bride of Christ, when in Rev. 21:2 John sees "the holy city, New Jerusalem coming down from God out of heaven, prepared AS a bride adorned for her husband"; then in v.9 the angel told John he would show him the bride, the Lamb's wife, in v. 10 John sees New Jerusalem again. The first instance New Jerusalem is "as" a bride, in v.10 it is New Jerusalem that the angel calls the bride, and goes on the describe the city. I was taught (way back in the 70's and 80's that we identify ourselves (that is, the church) as a chaste bride awaiting her husband, and I know the saints will inhabit New Jerusalem, but isn't that a literal city? I stood firm on this a long time ago, that the bride is New Jerusalem and not the church (for the Bible says that we are the body of Christ, and He is the Head of the church so how could the church be a bride which is female and Christ is quite obviously male?). I'm not trying to start a heated debate, really, I'm not. I actually am wavering here, in this area, because no one seems to think this way now. I'm just wondering why. cheri |

2 | Had Satan known.... | Not Specified | skccab | 186107
Hi all, I was wondering if anyone knows where it states in NT something like this "if the devil had known, he would not have had crucified the Lord..." I can't find it, and I have a pretty large concordance. I've always thought there was such a verse, but now.....? Thanks for your help Blessings Cheri |

3 | Translation / Transliteration | Not Specified | skccab | 186264
Hi all, This is not a question about anything in the Bible particular, but it's something that confuses me (and lately that's not really hard to do). What is the difference between translation and transliteration? Thank you Cheri |

5 | Jesus , the Messiah - Yeshua ha Mashiach | Not Specified | skccab | 186397
Hi all Here's something I've wondered about. Let one of you kind folks wonder on it now. We are told in Gen. and throughout the rest of the Word that God will bless those that bless Israel, and in the NT we're told to pray for Israel, that nations will be judged according to how they have treated the apple of God's eye. Jesus was pure Jewish, and a Rabbi. Shouldn't we, in the very least, refer to our Lord by His given Jewish name, Yeshua? (Another question) - Was He not originally referred to as Yeshua when the gospels and letters were first written? If He wasn't I'd like to know why. This just seems to be a matter of respect. Why was it ever chenged to the Americanized name Jesus? in Love Cheri |

6 | 2 bothersome questions | Not Specified | skccab | 187459
Hi all, I used the word search and only got one hit that didn't help. I have 2 questions that I have had trouble reconciling. Hope someone can help. 1 - This one is just minor really. Jn. 18:39, the custom spoken of can't seem to be verified by the historians of that time (or the ones I've read of), does anyone have any information on this? 2 - This next one to me makes the Bible sound contradictory and I know that it is not! so I'm at fault here, I'm missing something: Jn. 18:31 the Jews are telling Pilate that it is unlawful for them (the Jews) to put any man to death but we all know the story of the woman they were wanting to stone for adultery (this was within their law; and Lev. has numerous items that were punishable by death). So what am I missing here? Thanks in advance for any help. |

7 | Holy Spirit - indwelling / infilling | Not Specified | skccab | 188231
Hi all, I checked the Search mechanism, but didn't really get the info I was looking for - so maybe it's time to bring up the subject again. What are anyone's views on the difference between the indwelling (at the time of receiving Jesus as Lord and Savior) and infilling (at the time of asking for it) of the Holy Ghost? All thoughts are welcome, please blessings cheri |

10 | Colors - Tabernacle/High Priest | Not Specified | skccab | 191661
Morning all, Over the weekend I was doing a small study of the wilderness Tabernacle from Exodus Ch. 25. As I was reading the description as given to Moses I noticed that the colors for the Tabernacle match the colors for the High Priest's garments, only reversed - the Tabernacle is white from the outer to the inner colors and the priest's are outer colors to the white inside (underneath). Is there any significance to this? Just wondering Cheri |

12 | What is the Ending to Preterism view? | Not Specified | skccab | 193121
Hi All, I've been through a few threads about "preterism," and I've been reading "Escotology 101" by Jim Wade (too much reading and too much bouncing around)and I've yet to find the TWO answers I'm looking for: If this view is true, where does that leave us? and how does it all end? I can't seem to find the answers for those questions. Does anyone else know? |

13 | How do we see ourselves? | Not Specified | skccab | 193210
Hi all God's morning to ya First let me say, I've been blessed reading the posts here on SBF. I've grown much since I joined waaaay back in April :-) I don't ask too many questions, cos usually I can find the answers on my own (by using the search feature), but this particular question, I wanted to ask and get fresh answers. But I want to preface my question first with LOTS of scripture so --- Please sit back and enjoy your Word trip to my question. Rom. 8:1 …for those who are in Yeshua Messiah. Rom. 8:9 However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you… Rom. 8:10 If Messiah is in you… Rom. 8:11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Yeshua from the dead dwells in you,…through His Spirit who dwells in you. Rom. 8:14 For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. Rom. 8:15 …but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out,“Abba! Father!” Rom. 8:16 The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, Rom. 8:17 and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Messiah… Rom. 8:27 …for He intercedes for the saints… Rom. 8:28 …to those who are called according to His purpose. Rom. 8:29 …He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren, Rom. 8:33 Who will bring a charge against God’s elect? …. Rom. 9:23 …the riches of His glory upon vessels of mercy, which He prepared beforehand for glory, Rom. 9:24 even us, whom He also called,… 1 Cor. 1:8 who will also confirm you to the end, blameless… 1 Cor. 1:9 …through whom you were called into fellowship with His Son, Yeshua Messiah, our Lord. 1 Cor. 3:9 …you are God’s field, God’s building 1 Cor. 12:27 Now you are Messiah’s body, and individually members of it. 2 Cor. 1:21 Now He who establishes us with you in Messiah and anointed us is God, 2 Cor. 1:22 who also sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge. 2 Cor. 2:15 For we are a fragrance of Messiah to God among those who are being saved… 2 Cor. 5:17 Therefore if anyone is in Messiah, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. 2 Cor. 5:21 …so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. 2 Cor. 6:16 …For we are the temple of the living God; … Gal. 3:26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Messiah Yeshua. Gal. 3:27 For all of you who were baptized into Messiah have clothed yourselves with Messiah. Gal. 3:29 And if you belong to Messiah, then you are Abraham’s descendants, heirs according to promise. Eph. 1:4 …who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Messiah, Eph. 1:5 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. … Eph. 2:5 …made us alive together with Messiah… Eph. 2:6 and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Yeshua Messiah, Eph. 2:19…but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God’s household, Eph. 2:22 in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit. Eph. 4:23 and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, Eph. 4:24 and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth. Col. 1:12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light. Col. 1:13 …and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, Col. 1:22 …in order to present you before Him holy and blameless and beyond reproach- Col. 3:10 and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him- Col. 3:12 So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved… I'm sure by now you know what I was trying to point out and that there are just bookoos more (like almost ALL of 1 John) but I had to stop somewhere. (I originally had what I was leading up to underlined but it didn't "take" here.) QUESTION: The Pauline Letters NEVER speak of a believer as a sinner (a sinner before believing - yes; but never after being saved). So why do we? I listen to Vernon McGee and he's always calling himself a sinner, and there are others. Why? If we stick our hands in our pockets, lower our eyes to the ground, and mumble , "Ah shucks, ma'am, I'm just a sinner saved by grace," aren't we calling God a liar and His Word a lie? Cos as far as I have been able to see, the Bible doesn't say that those who are saved are sinners. (Sure, we still commit sin sometimes, but usually not in bold disobedience but in times of complacency or just stupidity, but that doesn't make us to be "sinners" again, does it?) (Let me now qualify my word "never." In the study I just performed, I did not come across any such statement, though I could have missed it.) Still learning Cheri |

14 | clarification of John 1:27 | Not Specified | skccab | 194367
Hi all, I have a question about John 1:19-27. V.19 states priests and Levites come from the Pharisees to ask some questions of John for them. Vs. 20-26 are self explanatory. But V.27 John states "...there is One that stands among you..." I have the e-sword program with every "free" Bible version it has available and every one of them pretty much uses those same words. The only one that is in any way different in its wording is the YLT and it comes off meaning the same thing. My question is this: How is verse 27 to be taken? That Yeshua is actually right there among them at that moment, that He is one of the levites or priests? Or that He is one of the Pharisees that sent the levites and priests? Or just that He is somewhere among you (meaning all the peoples in general) somewhere in some city within the region? Still learning :-) Cheri |

15 | Please Pray.... | Not Specified | skccab | 194591
Shalom everybody, This is not a Bible question. This is a request for corporate prayer for a good cause. The Guatamalian (spelling) government is in the process of stopping ALL intercountry adoptions as of Jan. 01, 2008. I only know of one couple and 1 beautiful little boy that this is going to affect, but I'm sure that there are many in-process adoptions: like the couple I know who are waiting only for that call to come get their wee one. Please pray that this does not happen, and that all the children in Guatamala will find their way into the homes that have been prepared for them. (I myself am adopted so I feel a real affinity for these little children who will be left with little to no hope of a loving family if this happens.) If you are interested in learning more about this, email me from my profile and I"ll send you some links to visit. Thank you for your prayers Cheri |

16 | Bye | Not Specified | skccab | 194732
Everyone, This will probably be my last post here. It saddens my heart. For several days I have had a post of importance up and NOT ONE of you has responded for information about it. I've looked at the petition that is online and of the 2,000 signatures that I viewed (26,000 so far have signed it), over 100 of them are from people who have prepared lives, hearts, and homes for orphaned children in Guatamala. That's 300 people minimum that are going to be affected!! This is supposed to be sola scriptura - but what good is studying the scriptures if you cannot even reach out to people in need with just a few minutes of your time? It's just a lot of black letters on white paper, nothing alive in the heart at all, just a lot of knowledge that's totally useless!!!! You have all been too busy with trivialities to spend 5 minutes to read a little information and hopefully sign a petition that might help hundreds of families become complete and little children who have no one come home to families that already love them! Even if you read the information and decided Guatamala is right in what they are doing and chose not to sign the petition, that would be better than not doing anything at all when so much is at stake! I'm extremely surprised, astonished and saddened at your seemingly lack of interest and caring! Mat. 18:2-5 And He called a child to Himself and set him before them and said, "Truly I say to you unless you are converted and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever then humbles himself as this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever receives one such child in My name receives Me..." Mark 10:13-14 But when Yeshua saw this, He was indignant and said to them, "Permit the children to come to Me; do not hinder them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these..." |

17 | Splitting of Mt. of Olives | Not Specified | skccab | 195141

18 | Abram or Abraham at Ishmael's birth | Not Specified | skccab | 195170
Shalom y'all, I have a simple question. I know the Biblical accounts of events are not always chronological so...when Ishmael was born, was Abraham Abraham at the time or was he still Abram? I'm thinking that he was still Abram and that would clear up my confusion about God's statement to Abraham to "take his only son, Isaac..." Cheri |

19 | Did Stephen see the Father? | Not Specified | skccab | 195290
Shalom y'all I've had a question for awhile but haven't really known how to phrase it - not sure still that I can phrase it correctly - but here goes... To start, I understand the word used in Deut. 6:4 "echad" is a word similar to the Christian view of the Trinity, more than singular but yet One. I don't have a problem with the view of the 3 as we see it in Matthew at Yeshua's mikvah, He in the water, the Holy Spirit descending upon Him as a dove and the Voice of the Father being heard. In fact, I love the picture that verse gives. But in Acts 7:55 where Stephen sees the Son of Man standing to receive him (I love that picture!!) apparently also sees the Father (or so that is the impression the verse gives). Is this the only place where the 2 are "seen" together? And how is that possible? Am I reading that verse wrong? Or is it only the glory that he saw and just assumed the Father was there, and was He? Learning :-) Cheri |

20 | Phinehas and the plague | Not Specified | skccab | 195791
Shalom y'all, In Num. 25:6-12, why did the elimination of the man and the Midianite woman by Phinehas stop the plague. I know that the two went into the tabernacle at that point (and that was definitely not a good thing) but the plague was already in progress. What I'm missing is the significance of the two and their termination. Did I miss some passages that stated their sin began the plague? Can someone enlighten me? How did their deaths contribute to the stopping plague? Or was it just Phinehas taking the initiative? still learning Cheri |
