1 | Rapture - Bodies or souls disappear? | Not Specified | jg8ball | 599
Do you believe that when the rapture takes place, our bodies will disappear (as depicted in the "Left Behind" series and similar books and movies) or could it be just our souls leave our bodies?

3 | TV Show "Crossing Over" - Dead Speaks? | Not Specified | jg8ball | 675
There is a relatively new show on the Sci-Fi channel called "Crossing Over" in which the host, John Edward, claims to be able to communicate with the dead. I've watched several of the shows and the information he relays is pretty exact and would seem almost impossible for him (or his staff) to research the people to gather the info. He seems to bring a lot of "mental" healing to the people he talks with. Could it be possible that God allows this to take place, or could it be the devil tricking the people, or is there some other explanation?
4 | Questions for my Calvinists friends. | Not Specified | jg8ball | 957
I'm having problems seeing the Calvinist viewpoint on Election. I've read the verses and studied documents and have found too many problems with the interpretations. I'll discuss these verses again if requested but a couple things that I don't see how they fit are: 1) If God pre-chose only some individuals that were to be saved, why did he destroy them in the flood? I guess you could always say the Noah and family were the only ones he chose but why then go to all the trouble of populating the world and wipe it out with a flood? 2) If God had his "Elect" already in mind and knew they were going to be saved because the could not resist God, why then did Jesus have to die? 3) Why would it be harder for a rich man to enter the Kindgom of Heaven? My view on this is that God wants us all to be saved and has provided (initiated, given us, predestined, etc...) the way to salvation through his son. 1) In the time of Noah, the people "went away" from God and the only way at that time to get them back on track was to "start over". 2) In Jesus' time, the people were getting too lost in all their laws and was losing the true meaning of God (Love) and sent Jesus, as a final statement, to show us the path. 3) Because God wants us to chose to worship him and believe in his son and to not follow the "ways of the world", then it would be harder for a rich man because there is greater temptations to sway him away. Although I do believe we have "Free Will" to choose, I also believe that our Will can be overriden by God, if necessary, for his plan to be fulfilled. I also believe that there could not have been anything we could have done to enter Heaven, but fortunately, he invited everyone free of charge with only one string attached -- you must believe. |

5 | Is Jesus God? | Not Specified | jg8ball | 1310
Can anyone show me any passages that show that Jesus is God? A friend of mine believes that Jesus is the Son of God but not God (and the Holy Spirit is the action of God but not God). I've shown him many verses but most can also be interpreted as separate individuals (for example: I baptize you in the name of the Father and in the Son, and in the Holy Spirit could be interpreted as baptizing in the name of the three separate entities.) I've also shown him the classic John 1:1 and similar verses but he interprets it at Jesus and God think alike, have the same mission, similar in nature, etc... Is there something in the Bible that very simply and cleary says that the Three are one? To me there are many verses that state this clearly, but to him, they state something completely different. |

6 | What does Bible teach on election? | Bible general Archive 1 | jg8ball | 598
Thanks for the link. I (currently) don't believe in the predestination theory, at least as it's been explained to me, but your notes look well laid out and seem, at first glance, to give an in-depth look at this theory - 97 pages worth. I look forward to reviewing this document to see if my interpretations are faulty or if this is just something that we'll find out in the end. Also, if anyone else wishes to communicate via e-mail and does not wish to post their address, they could setup a "temporary account" at hotmail.com - or similar web-based email systems. That way if this account gets slammed with unwanted e-mails, you just cancel it. |

Excellent answer! I myself have used primarily the NIV but will be getting a NASB soon. I usually use the computer to check different versions (www.blueletterbible.com has some nice features for this) but sometimes there's nothing like the real book. I'm looking forward to comparing the "thought for thought" translation to the "word for word" translation. thanks for your answer. |

9 | Unbaptized children | Bible general Archive 1 | jg8ball | 723
Baptism has not nothing to do with getting into heaven. The only way to make it is to truely believe that Jesus died for your sins and was resurrected. Once you believe this, baptism in an appropriate next step as an outward symbol of your faith. Children (and I believe mentally handicapped adults) on the otherhand that are not able to understand what it means to believe go to heaven.
10 | What does Bible teach on election? | Bible general Archive 1 | jg8ball | 777
I do believe your interpretation of Divine Predestination. I guess where I disagree is interpretation of Election. In the verse you listed (2 Thes 2:13), I interpret this as follows: Paul is writing to a group of believers and when he refers to "God has chosen (elected) you from the beginning for salvation", he's not telling them that they are special because God had pre-chosen them individually, but God had made a provision for them to be saved and they are special (the "Elect" or in today's terms "the born-again" or "believers") because they accepted God's gift and chose to follow Christ. There are many verses in the Bible that talk about God wanting all to be saved and for us to choose to believe. When you look at the verses that talk about the elect and apply the interpretation that the elect are another way of saying believers and that predestination is refering to God's over-all plan rather than individually, then the whole bible falls together. I haven't seen any "Election" verses that can't interpreted this way. I have seen many verses and stories in the Bible that the "Election theory" doesn't hold up. I will be spending some time exploring the "Election" interpretation in greater detail and hope you will also spend some time exploring the "Free Will" interpretation in an unbiased study. |

11 | did the wine from the water make you dr | Bible general Archive 1 | jg8ball | 989
I believe that the wine of today is generally stronger than it was in those days but the Bible doesn't really say how strong it was. It does say though that it was the finest wine. |

12 | Is there an age of accountability? | Bible general Archive 1 | jg8ball | 1183
Joseph, it looks like you could use a little help. I've tangled with these guys plenty of times and they get pretty irate when you show them scripturally that there interpretations don't hold up. Back to your question about the age of accountablity, I had not realized that the Calvins believed that children were not saved. If this is true it's rather sad they could actually believe this. I always thought God was a loving God. I really need to get home (I'm late for dinner) but I will try to investigate this topic tonight. I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone. There is one verse that Jesus tells us to have faith like the children but want to research it more to make sure it applies. By the way, JVH0212 really gets upset when you use the term Calvin. He says he is not a Calvin but I found he does believe more in the things Calvins believe verses the Arminians. I believe more in the Arminians beliefs but admit there are some Calvinistic beliefs that are sound. After all they do believe Jesus died for our sins. I guess I use the terms too loosly but find them handy to refer to one belief versus another. Ok, I'm real late now. later. |

13 | Is there an age of accountability? | Bible general Archive 1 | jg8ball | 1198
As far as an actual age, the Bible doesn't specify, and I believe rightly so. Each child is different and "understands" at a different age. To say that there is a certain age (ie: 8 years 3 months) that a child would no longer be saved would make no sense. I believe (based on our God be a loving God) that He would not send any child, that is unable to understand what it means to be saved, to Hell. I also believe this holds true for adults that are mentally unable to comprehend this for themselves. Your statement about Calvins beliving that children are lost is a suprise to me. I can't believe how someone could interpret that let alone belive that. The closest scriptual basis I could find is the following: Matt 18:2-4 "He called a little child and had him stand among them. And he said: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven." |

14 | Did Solomon and Sheba have a child? | Bible general Archive 1 | jg8ball | 1205
Good question. I saw the same show and just took for granted they had a son -- my bad. I just did a bunch of searching and could not find anything stating that they had a son. The closest I found that could be remotely interpreted that way was 2 Chronicles 9:12 "King Solomon gave the queen of Sheba all she desired and asked for; he gave her more than she had brought to him." although I don't think I would interpret it that way. The host may have researched documents about the Queen of Sheba which may have implied that. I don't know. I just did a search at www.google.com on "queen of sheba" solomon son and found many sites that talk about their son. Whether it's true or not is for you to decide. Good luck. |

16 | Moses killed why was he still choosen to | Bible general Archive 1 | jg8ball | 31186
1) Moses killed an Egyptian that was beating (possibly to death) a Hebrew. 2) There have been many cases where God chose to use people of what we might perceive as "questionable behavior". This just goes to show that no matter what you may have done in the past, it's not too late for God to bail you out and help you get back on track. |

18 | what are women to do without a husband? | Bible general Archive 1 | jg8ball | 38366
Get a husband. (just kidding) Biblically, I would recommend talking to other women and asking them for guidance. Today's world (assuming you live in the U.S. or other modern countries) I think you would be able to talk to any friend versed in the Bible. If you're not comfortable with that, there is always sites like this you can post your questions. Please make sure though that you back up what you hear by examining what the Bible has to say for yourself. |

19 | Show in the Bible once saved always | Bible general Archive 1 | jg8ball | 41584
New Creature, I've fought this same battle many times before (including in this forum) and, as your finding out, people are pretty set on what they want to believe and no matter how many verses that show that we must be on guard against losing our way, they're always going to refer back to a few verses that when taken out of context support a "once saved always saved" doctrine. When it all comes down to the bottom line though, it doesn't really matter which way you believe. As long as you have accepted Christ in your life, and continue to believe and not reject Him, you will be saved. Others may also add that you must also be baptized, but that's a whole other can of worms. |

20 | Show in the Bible once saved always | Bible general Archive 1 | jg8ball | 41712
Thanks for the agreement. I hope others study the Bible (as a whole) and not just the verses that seem to fit with what they want to believe. If they did, I don't see how they could come up with once saved - always saved and more importantly, that God's salvation is not available to everyone. (Elect versus Free Will) But that's just my interpretation. I can hardly wait for the day when I'll get to hear the Truth from the Source. I'm betting that it's going to be something like all that really matters is that we Love God and Love everyone else. If you do these two things then does anything else really matter? On a side note, that wasn't me that responded to your response to my initial response :) |
