1 | is gambling a sin | Bible general Archive 4 | danjg | 223529
No, it's not. However, it can be addicting and become a financial problem which then becomes an issue of living wisely for God's glory.
2 | Did John really baptise Jesus?? | Bible general Archive 4 | danjg | 223530
With all due respect, I strongly disagree that Jesus' human side needed repentance. He was the perfect sinless God-man. Obviously His deity was sinless, but so was His humanity since He didn't have a human father. That leads me to the conclusion that our sin nature is passed on by the father not the mother.

I understand your frustration...I faced it too when I switched to the NASB back in the early 70s primarily b/c we didn't use King James English anymore! Also when I did my own translation from the Gk, if agreed more with NASB than KJV a majority of the time! When confronted by a KJV only person, I ask these questions: 1. Which version of the KJV is most "inspired" (if they claim that)or accurate; the 1611 or 1885? 2. If the Bible was first translated into English in 1911 instead of 1611, what Gk text would have been used, and would it be in King James English? 3. What doctrine is found in the KJV that is not found in my NASB? My reason for ? #1 is that the 1611 version contained the Aprocryphal books but were officially removed in 1885 by the Archbishop of Canterbury so any KJV Bible since then is not really a 1611 version. I've looked at many doctrinal statements by sound evangelical churches/organizations and have found that my NASB supports all their doctrinal beliefs! |

I'm curious about your "G-d to G-ds" issue! First, in my NASB "gods" is never capitalized and is never used of JEHOVAH, but only of pagan "deities." Second, Gen 3:5 seems to contradict your contention: "For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil." KJV "For God know that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." NASB It seems obvious that Satan was referring to God not gods b/c why would Adam and Eve know anything about "gods?" Maybe you're thinking of Daniel 3:25 where Nebuchadnezzar sees a fourth person in the fiery furnace as the "Son of God" (KJV) or "son of the gods" (NASB). The question is, as a pagan king, what would he know about the Son of God? But it's clear he understands that the 4th person is some type of deity, therefore, the latter translation seems best! |

5 | different races | OT general | danjg | 224934
Scripture doesn't give us a specific answer to your question. However, there seems to be two possibilities: (1)When God confounded the languages in Gen. 11:1-9, he changed the physical characteristics of the population into those of the different races to parallel the languages; (2)The general population up to then included people with all the various physical characteristics of the races and God confounded the languages to parallel the physical characteristics of the races. In Gen 10 we find the descendants of Noah's three sons "into their lands, every one according to his language,..." This perhaps indicates that Noah's sons already displayed the racial characteristics and that #2 above is how it happened. Hope this helps! Dan |

6 | Cain and Abel wives. Who are they? | Genesis | danjg | 239332
Cain would have to marry a sister! Adam and Eve had no siblings, so there wouldn't be any cousins, etc.
7 | Cain and Abel wives. Who are they? | Genesis | danjg | 239345
Possibly, but reading the text, I get the impression it wasn't too long after he left the "presence of the Lord" that he took a wife!
8 | Who is the oldest person in the bible? | Gen 5:21 | danjg | 241009
But you also could say that Enoch is the oldest since he never died and Elijah would be second oldest!
9 | Who is the oldest person in the bible? | Gen 5:21 | danjg | 241017
Two facts about Methuselah: 1,He was the oldest man to live on planet earth; 2,Yet he died before his father did!
10 | Whence cometh the races? | Gen 11:7 | danjg | 223394
Gen 11:7 tells us that God confused the languages to force people to scatter around the earth as He had commanded. So was it at this same time that God changed the one race into the races that exist today with their distinct physical characteristics? Or is it possible that the population was composed of folks with all those racial physical characteristics and that God gave all Oriental looking folks certain languages, Negro looking folks certain languages, Caucasian looking folks certain languages, etc?
11 | Job's suffering | Job | danjg | 230902
Job 2:3 is the key verse here..and one that some totally ignore when discussing the believer/suffering scenario. God places three hedges around the believer: our possessions, health, and life; Great comfort comes from knowing Satan can't touch any of them w/o God allowing him to do so!
12 | Knowing the Word | Jer 8:7 | danjg | 233229
Yes, Sola Scriptura "is an invention of man" but only in the same sense as the Trinity! The word "Trinity" isn't found in Scripture, but the concept of one God manifest in three distinct persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, is! Sola Scriptura is a biblical concept that "man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from God." It also means that inspiration and inerrancy is only found in the Scriptures not in any work of man!
13 | Knowing the Word | Jer 8:7 | danjg | 233237
While I agree, I don't see the significance of your statement that not every word God has uttered "became scripture" (graphe), i.e. written down. Mt. 4:4 says that we are to live "on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God." That has to refer to Scripture because the only words God has given us to live by are contained in Scripture, ergo, Sola Scriptura! Are you trying to make a distinction between the words of God the Father and Jesus and that the Father's are more important? Is there a significance between "word (rhema) of God" in Luke 2:2 and "word (logos)of God" in Luke 5:1? |

Ooops, I meant in Luke 3:2, sorry!
15 | Knowing the Word | Jer 8:7 | danjg | 233241
"I have been trying to figure this one out for close to 47 years now, CDBJ" You're in good company..theologians have been trying to figure it out for millenia. For me, I believe in both because both are clearly taught in Scripture. Do I understand it? No! But then I don't understand the Trinity either, but I believe it! I illustrate it with railroads tracks..you need two to run your train on and they must stay parallel. Our theological train needs two tracks to run on: God's sovereignty and man's free will. Emphasize one over the other and you'll crash! If we had infinite knowledge like God, we'd have no problem with it. I leave it at that! |

17 | People who never hear the gospel | John 3:3 | danjg | 239394
Yes, based on John 3:3, "unless one is born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God." See also, Rom 1:18-20 which says that all are "without excuse." And, Rev. 19 says that at the Great White Throne judgment, the dead will be judged "according to their deeds" so those who have not heard the Gospel will be judged less severely than those who have heard and rejected it.
18 | Church and addiction | Rom 10:8 | danjg | 230501
Read these Scriptures Romans 10:8-13 Acts 16:30-31 There's nothing about giving up anything to be saved. But, here's a question only you can answer: why do you want to be saved? Is it b/c you know you're a sinner and deserve eternal judgment, or you want help with your addiction? If your repentance is genuine and you place your trust is Christ alone, then not only will He save you, but He will help you with your addiction! |

20 | Heaven/hell - those never hearing gospel | Rom 10:12 | danjg | 223993
Since Jesus is the ONLY way to heaven, then those who haven't heard will end up in hell. Would not a connected question be, why did Jesus give us the Great Commission if those who haven't heard can somehow get to heaven? If that's possible, then we should never tell anyone the gospel since if they never hear they have a chance for heaven, but if they hear and reject it then they have no chance. Rev 20:12 says those at the Great White Throne judgment will be judged according to their deeds which have been recorded in the "books." Since God is fair and just, those who never hear will not be judged as harshly as those who actively oppose anything connected with the Gospel. Cornelius and the Ethiopian eunuch are examples of someone who is searching for truth and God brings someone (Peter and Phillip) to them with the truth. D |
