1 | blasphemy against the holy spirit.... | Not Specified | brookelynne1982 | 91568
According to Matthew, "He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters. 31And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. 32Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come. ' why is it that the only blasphemy that is not forgiven is that against the Holy Spirit? |

2 | follow up to blasphemy question | Not Specified | brookelynne1982 | 91601
The key begins in verse 24. Matthew 12:24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils. Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is not recognizing Him as the Spirit of God, rejecting Him who is the one who draws us to Christ. If we reject the Holy Spirit calling Him evil as the Pharasees did, we can't come to a saving faith in Jesus Christ." so why is it forgivable to blaspheme against god and the son? |

well that's the scripture i quoted in my original question. i simply want to know WHY it's forgivable to blaspheme against god and the son but NOT the holy spirit, and i'm not trying to be difficult, i promise, i just really want to know, and i've asked several people in my church and none of them have given me a satisfactory answer, so if anyone can help me out on this i'd be very grateful.

7 | followup | Luke 11:20 | brookelynne1982 | 91620
"We want to know that Jesus is God, God is Spirit, and the Holy Spirit is God. And there is only one God. Who is this god [sic] that is in your question?" personally my interpretation fo the bible leads me to believe that there is one god, that his son is jesus christ and that both of these entities are separate from the holy spirit. if all three are one and the same, then i have to go back to the scripture i quoted originally in Matthew:32Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come. ' if the holy spirit is the same as 'the son', how can blasphemy against one be forgiven while blasphemy against the other cannot? i very sincerely thank you for your efforts to help me with this question, it's been bothering me for quite some time. thanks. |

8 | still confused | Luke 11:20 | brookelynne1982 | 91635
"The Trinity is composed of 3 persons Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each person is God. They are 3 in person but one in essence." i personally happen to have a different take on the topic, but my question really wasnt about the trinity. for the sake of discussion we'll assume that the trinity theory is correct and the father, son and holy spirit are indeed 3 in person but one in essence. wouldnt one have to conclude, then, that blasphemy against one would equal blasphemy against all three, therefore all blasphemy would be either forgivable or not forgivable? but the scripture in Matthew states otherwise. how can this be? again, i really appreciate your guidance on this subject, i'm writing a paper on it and this dialogue has been quite helpful so far. |

"I don't know how much we can talk together since your shift key doesn't get used" i'm not sure what you mean by that....my lack of capitalization? if so i dont mean it disrespectfully, i just have a habit of typing with no caps, as you can see i dont even capitalize "i", but if this proves to be confusing or offensive i can certainly amend that. thank you so much for your thoughtful response. it's given me a lot to think about. i'm going to mull this over and if i still have any questions i'll post them in a little while. thanks again. |
