4 | god shouldn't send people to hell. | Bible general Archive 3 | alanh | 171942
Who are you to question God and His infinite goodness and justice. It is not because of God that souls will go to hell but rather man's sin will send him there. God has given the ultimate sacrifice that none have to go to hell, but we can choose to go to heaven by repenting, confessing Jesus as Lord, and be baptized for the forgiveness of all sin. Then by living a faithful life the blood of Jesus continually cleanses us from all sin.

7 | Adultery by both parties. Divorce? | NT general Archive 1 | alanh | 124391
Altho both have sinned and supposedly repented. The Scriptures teach that adultry is a valid reason for divorce (Matthew 19:9). If he has asked for divorce on these grounds he is within his rights of course this does not mean that you are not free to remarry after divorce whether you are considered the "guilty" party or not divorce is divorce and ends the marriage bond for both in the couple.
8 | Adultery by both parties. Divorce? | NT general Archive 1 | alanh | 124507
The term divorce comes from the Greek word apoluo and means "to loose, set free." If one is loosed or set free do they not have the right to marry or are they still "bound." Both partys are set free not just one. You are misreading the Scriptures or reading them the way they have been intrepreted without regard to the meaning of the Greek word. A divorce involves both partys not just half.
9 | Adultery by both parties. Divorce? | NT general Archive 1 | alanh | 124609
The Scripture says two things: 1) Divorce, except for adultry eguals adultry 2) Divorce, in the case of adultry eguals divorce not adultry. Divorce means the parties involved are no longer married! |

10 | Adultery by both parties. Divorce? | NT general Archive 1 | alanh | 124717
The remarriage in the case you are referring to would refer to any divorce then this is not so, but only to divorce where it was done for other reason than fornication (adultry, sexual immoralatry). Follow the meaning of divorce (apoluo) logically---i.e. what does it mean.] Please notice as I have shown you two cases are stated: 1) no divorce in the eyes of God 2) divorce in the eyes of God If you are saying REMARRIAGE means adultry then it only follows that both parties are still married and neither can remarry, but if one can remarry BECAUSE THEY ARE DIVORCED DUE TO UNFAITHFULNESS then both can remarry BECAUSE THEY ARE DIVORCED---NO LONGER MARRIED!!! The fact is God hates divorce (Malachi 2:16). Couples should always try to work things out, even when marital unfaithfulness is involved. But when it cannot and divorce for fornication is the cause then the divorce applies to both parties one cannot still be married and commit adultry while the other cannot it is not logical nor is it what the Scriptures say. |

12 | Age of earth according to bible? | Gen 1:5 | alanh | 171900
The truth of the matter is that the Bible, being grounded in history, is filled with chronological data that may be used to establish a relative age for the earth. The Bible, for example, provides impressive chronological data from Adam to Solomon. The death of Ahab has been determined to be 853-852 B.C., and terefore the reign of Solomon (forty years, 1 Kings 11:42) can be dated at 971-931 B.C. According to 1 Kings 6:1, 480 years before Solomon's fourth year of reign (967-966 B.C.), Moses brought the Israelites out of Egypt. The date of the Exodus is 1446/1445 B.C. To this date is added the years of sojourn in Egypt (215 years), thereby producing the date of 1661 BC as the year Jacob went into Egypt. Interestingly, the Bible records Pharaoh's query of Jacob's age in Genesis 47:9. That age was 130 and that makes the year of Jacob's birth 1791 BC (Gen 25:26). Isaac was 60 when Jacob was born, which would place the birth of Isaac at 1851 BC. Abraham was 100 when Isaac was born, therefore his birh was in 1951 BC. (Gen 21:5). The chronology from Abraham to Adam is recorded in two separate genealogical tables-Genesis 5 and 11. According to Genesis 12:4, Abraham was 75 when he left Haran, presumably after Terah died at 205 years; thus Abraham was born when Terah was 130, albeit he is mentioned 1st by importance when Terah started having sons at the age of 70 (Gen 11:27; 12:4; Acts 7:4) Having est. the birth date of Abraham at 1951 BC, it is possible to work from the time of Adam's creation to Abraham in order to dicern the chronology "of the beginning." The time from the creation of Adam to Seth is 130 years (Gen 5:3), the time from Adam to Noah was 1,056 years, and the time from Noah's birth to the flood was 600 years (Gen 7:6), or 1656 AA (After Adam). Shem was 100 and begat Arphaxad 2 years after the Flood (the earth was not dry for more than a year; cf. Gen 7:11 and Gen 8:14; see also Gen 11:10) in approx. 1659 AA. The Bible indicates that "Arphaxad lived thirty-five years, and begot Salah"; however, Luke 3:36 may complement the chronological table of Genesis 11 with the insertion of Cainan between Arphaxad and Salah, which indicates Arphaxad possibly was the father of Cainan. When the ages of the remaining patriarchs in Genesis 11 are considered at the time they begat sons, one observes that Terah was likely born around 2000 AA, and bore Abraham 130 years later (in approx. 2130 AA). Simple arithmatic-1951 BC added to 2130 AA-places the creation date at approx. 4081 BC (give or take a few hundred years) the Flood would have occurred around 2425 BC. 15 | The Ten Commandments in the Bible | Ex 20:1 | alanh | 126012
The Ten Commandments were a part of the old covenant and were nailed to the cross (Col. 2:14). Although many of the commandments are repeated under the New Covenant one is not: "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy." (Exodus 20:8-11; Deut. 5:12-15). We are no longer to worship on the Sabbath. The covenant of the Ten Commandments were given only to the Jews Moses said,"Jehovah our God made a covenant with us in Horeb. Jehovah made not this covenant with our fathers, but with us, even us, who are all of us here alive this day" (Deut. 5:2-3). The Ten Commandments were indeed that covenant of which he spoke, notice the following, "And he was there with Jehovah forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments" (Exodus 34:28). In summary the Ten Commandments were nailed to the cross. The maral laws can all be found in the New Testament writings after the church has begun. The fourth law is no where to be found in the New Testament after Acts 2. |

16 | Are Christians to keep the Sabbath? | Ex 20:8 | alanh | 124429
According to Scripture the Law was nailed to the cross (Colossians 2:14). We are no longer obligated to the old covenant, the Ten Commandments (Exodus 34:28), we are under the new covenant which was established by Christ (Luke 22:20). In the New Testament we find that the Christians came together to take the Lord's Supper on the first day of the week (Acts 20:7). Paul also commanded us to "put aside and save, as he has prospered" on the first day of the week. Biblical evidence points toward the meeting of the saints on the first day of the week and the command from the Old Testament, "remember the sabbath" as part of the old covenant and obsolete. |

Where in Revelation does it talk of Elijah returning? I know he is prophesied to come before the Lord and was in fact John the Baptizer. As for the original Elijah he was a prophet to the northern kingdom of Israel.See 1 Kings beginning chapter 17.
