3 | Us and Our not found in Hebrew language? | Not Specified | Tamara Brewington | 203785
Hey I have to prepare to do Bible Study tomorrow morning in case the teacher is ansent. Here is the question about Genesis... I was doing a word study and came across a puzzle perhaps someone deeper that me can solve this puzzle; Gensis chapter one, verse 1:26 in Hebrew it does not say the words Us or Our when talking about creating man as our English tranlations do... Does anybody know who added the Us and Our, was it the Septuagint or what and why did they add it because without it actualy reads in straight Hebrew; "and He is saying Elohim make mankind in image as likenss and they shall over the flyer of the heavens and in beast and in all the earth and in every moving the one moving on land"?

6 | Wisdom as Evangelism? | Not Specified | Tamara Brewington | 203845
I came across a stituation in which I was evangelising with someone. They are more educated than me by a long shot, two seminaries, one big degree and such. I did not know this person very well and was taking class from them, we went out to the park for class credit. This guy was trying to catch fish by asking passers by if they would like to discuss The Moral Argument, The Cosmological Argument, The Anthroplogical Argument, The Teological Argument and so on. Passers by who were caught would be presented with an argument for that God exists as The Absolute Moral Law Giver, The Uncaused Cause, The Creater of Man in His Image, The Intelliegent Maker of Creation and so on. Then this guy would point out the fatal flaw in the rational of the passer through setting an intellectual trap by showing them how their veiw was hypocritical, lacked rationality or otherwise did not measure up to the logic and wisdom of what he had presented as his argument. This was an Apologetics course and the point was to learn how to apologize for the faith. After pointing out their fatal flaw he would then try to get them to admit God existed, if he could get them to do that, then and only then would he give them the gospel message of Christ's atoning death. He invited me to something called,"spiritual munchies", a get together of believers and nonbelievers to hear a bit of Jesus wisdom from the gospels. The scripture was Mathew 7:1-5. I sat there for two hours while we ate and discussed the elements of the text, like what is a log in your eye and what is a measure of judgment. The unbelievers were never given the gospel message of Christ's atoning death. I confronted this guy and asked why he didn't just give them the message that could save and that it bothered me that we were being unequaly yoked with unbelievers studying scripture that has the power to equip the saved with wisdom, but which does not have the information necessary to save. He said the wisdom of Jesus has the power to draw people salvifically to God and that he was doing pre-evangelism. He said there is a mandate to use wisdom to evagelize. I said the aposltes never used wisdom to evangelize in fact Paul talks a lot about not using wisdom to evangelize because they are seeking wisdom and that Christ and His atonement are our wisdom according to Paul. He accused me of hiding behind the gospel and being unwilling to deal intellectualy with people who can respond to rational, logical wisdom in order to get saved and that my methods of giving people the scriptures and the message of Christ's atonement was running away from the world. I Corinthians 2:1-8, 1:18-31, Colossians 2:2-10. Scripture to support his point if you think it can be validated, opinions please.
7 | Nephilim Angels or godly sons of Seth? | Not Specified | Tamara Brewington | 203846
Are the Nephilim angels that came down and had sexual relations with women? Or are they the goldy sons Seth? Who were the mighty men of old, the men of renown? Genesis 6:1-4 Scriptures and opinions please.
8 | Concept of a 'just war' Biblical? | Not Specified | Tamara Brewington | 203847
What is the truth about the "just war" concept? Is there such a thing as a "just war". Luther and Calvin thought there was based on a need to remove tryanical kings in order to relieve the people of bodily harm. Some Reformed theologians think so, they base their concept on Hebrews 11:32-34 because these saints who had faith were commended for fighting on behalf of Israel and on a father protecting his family in times of war, they call this the morality of war. Scriptures and opinions please.
9 | Did I miss something in the text? | Not Specified | Tamara Brewington | 203848
I came across a situation where I had to write a paper on Christ in the OT. One of the scriptures under inspection for the general reading was Genesis 11:1-8 the story of the tower of Babel (don't ask me how this had to with Christ in the OT, cause I honestly don't know). The professor gave the verses but wrote his own version of the story with the people being oppressed by the rulers of Babel to build the tower and having many languages and then a commond language, intsead of one common langauge in all the earth. He did have God confuse the one language at the end of his version. There were other things in the paper. I wrote citing the actual verses in full that there was no oppression, the people as one got together and built the tower and there was one common language in all the earth. I got and A on the paper, but he wrote and I quote,"I took liberty to do some deducing, but the Bible doesn't contradict it". Did I miss something in the text?
10 | Reconcile tomb accounts? | Not Specified | Tamara Brewington | 203849
The gospels have conflicting acounts of events at the tomb of Jesus on the resurrection day. For instance, one angel and then two angels, Mary sees Jesus at the tomb and then goes and tells the disciples immediately, Mary sees Jesus at the tomb is afraid and waits three days before telling the disciples, Mary goes alone, Mary goes with three women, Mary goes with a group of women more than three, Mary and the other Mary see Jesus after leaving the tomb, Mary, or Mary and some women or other see Jesus at the tomb, Mary sees the empty tomb and then does not see Jesus until she goes back later, the one angel is sitting on the stone, the one angel is by the door, two angels are inside the tomb, then the disciples were told Peter got up and ran to see, the disciples were told and they did not believe until they saw Jesus, All four gospel endings. Reconcile accounts if you can please.
11 | Should Women Wear Hats? | Not Specified | Tamara Brewington | 203917
Is the scripture in I Corinthians 11:1-16 to be considered normative for Christians as a moraly indicitive imperative, or is to be considered merely historicaly applicable to Biblical times? And is this, as is widely believed, applicable only to married men and women or does the term aner refer to first men and second husband and does the term gune refer to first woman and second wife? And wouldn't all women have had to cover their heads back then or be considered prostitutes with uncovered heads, or as temple prostitutes as ones with hair cut off? And if that was a moral imperative then for all women because of the heirarchy of headship of the whole church in Christ (because weren't all women under the authority of her father or husband or brother as no woman had her own property and no authority?), why is it not seen as such now(notwithstanding that they used a complete covering of a shawl and not a little bonnet or hat as conventions have changed)? We had a rousing discussion in our church in Bible study and most of the women refused to wear hats. But I did decided to after waiting the week after easter, which my pastor asked me to do so that my wearing a hat would not be confused with an easter hat tradition(his wife always wore a hat until she passed away). He did not press the rest, but told them he had given them the scripture and that he would leave it up to them to be convicted or not because he refused to be in the middle of a big fight between those who felt convicted and those who don't, it just was not going to be a battle he would fight because he had other fights currently running he would prefer to be winning. 12 | Gifts of prophecy and tongues passed? | Not Specified | Tamara Brewington | 203918
Has the gift of prophecy and tongues and knowledge passed away? What are we to make of I Corinthians 13:8-13, but when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away. Does this verse mean that Christ came and the partial was done away with, and that somehow after the Holy Spirit which was after Christ that the gift was only in operation in the founding of the church? Does this verse mean that when the church was finished the perfect was come and that the gift was only in operation in the founding of the church? Does this verse mean that when Christ returns the perfect state of man will come and that then all the gifts except faith, hope and love will abide because the other gifts will no longer be necessary fir the church to function, because we will be just like Jesus? We know that the gift of being apostle has passed becaue they finished founding the church. In your answer do not confuse the concept of propecy as it functioned in the OT as a precursor to Christ and to lead Israel with Paul's description of the gift in I Corinthians 14:3,4 as being applicable to the functioning of the church membership.
13 | Gift of Wisdom and gift of Knowledge? | Not Specified | Tamara Brewington | 203919
What is the Spirit of Wisdom and is it a gift? And what is the gift of knowledge? I Corinthians 12:8 For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit. Are we to think that the word of wisdom is the gift of prophecy in the list in 12:28 and are we to think that the word of knowledge is also the gift of prophecy? Agape, Tamara

15 | NT canon in 1st century or 350 AD? | Not Specified | Tamara Brewington | 203985
Ok guys I got a question about the canon, I am sure this has been kicked around before. I got this kooky professor and he claims that the NT church had a finalized canon of the Bible floating around way before 350 AD. Wanna help me out? Any truth at all to this idea? I keep trying to ask him, you mean that the apostles and elders had a few books of the NT together and were sharing it around? He goes no, the canon as we know it was going around, just trying to clarify the scope of what he meant there... God Bless, Tamara
16 | Speaking to God not glory, Moses shines? | Not Specified | Tamara Brewington | 203986
Ok here's another one from the kooky professor... When Moses went up the mountain and received the 10 commandments the first time in Exodus 34 this guy is saying that it wasn't getting in the presence of the glory of God that make Moses face shine, it was Moses speaking in concentration form for a long time that got Moses face to shine. The reason he gave is verse 29. God Bless, Tamara
17 | God has a backside or is it His anger? | Not Specified | Tamara Brewington | 203987
OK next question because of the kooky professor... Moses didn't realy see the back side of God because God is a spirit wihtout a front or a back. And by the way has no spiritual body, even though Paul says there are spiritual bodies and physical bodies. Moses never saw any part of God and further God did not hide Moses with His hand to shield Moses from His glory because He doesn't have a hand. Then to top it off the back side of God that He showed Moses was his sterness and anger like in Jeremiah 18:17... Are you laughing yet? I was, but honestly I am interseted in what you think of his take on this because God is a spirit. My answer was that there are spiritual bodies and that God said He has a front a back and a hand, how you gonna tell God he don't? Tell me what you all think. God Bless, Tamara
18 | When we see God will talking change us? | Not Specified | Tamara Brewington | 203989
Ok I got a lot of questions because of the kooky professor... He says when we see God we will become like him because we understand Him. I thought when we see God we will become like Him because His glory will transform us, but He said no, we are gonna have a little talk and get changed... Laughing again? I tried not to, this was in class... Opinions and scriptures please. God Bless, Tamara
19 | Wisdom has to be believed to get saved? | Not Specified | Tamara Brewington | 203990
Next kooky professor question... The way to get saved is to get a knowledge of Christs atonement, the wisom of that knowledge has to be believed in order to get saved. The scripture given was Colossians 1:9,10 read the scripture first before you answer please. On this one I was not laughing I was rather more appalled. Opinions and scriptures please... God bless, Tamara
20 | Faith is will, emotion, truth? | Not Specified | Tamara Brewington | 203991
Next question from the kooky professor... Faith consists of equal parts of will, emotion and truth. I have puzzled over this for a while and am thinking about what Hebrews says about faith consisting of things yet hoped for etc. But what do some of you guys think? God Bless, Tamara
