3 | Must all the Bible be taken literally? | Bible general Archive 1 | JonnyRay49423 | 4158
When reading the Old Testament we must realize the the people of God-the Jews were given laws to govern them as a nation-we find these laws in the first five books of the OT. These laws-statutes-ordinances or commandments were to rule the people of God till the Messiah would come to usher in the Kingdom of God. The nation of Israel or God's dealing only with the Jewish nation came to end when they rejected the Messiah-then God commanded the Gospel of be preached to all the world-read Romans 14:8-12;Acts 28:20ff; Hebrews 10). When we read the New Testament we find in the Pauline Epistles laws that govern the new people of God-the New Covenant People-the Church-the New Testament is not to go by the OT Torah that governed the nation of Israel. We are for example not to follow OT dietary laws or sacrifical laws. We are to follow the teachings of the New Moses the Lord Jesus-for example the laws found in the Sermon of the Mount Matthew chapters 5 through 7. I recommend you do a indepth study of the Epistle to the Hebrews to get further insight why we are not to live like Old Testament Jews but New Covenant saints. |

4 | Does Bible support capital punishment? | Bible general Archive 1 | JonnyRay49423 | 4159
We read in Genesis 9:6 "Whosoever sheds a man's blood, By man his blood shall be shed; For in the image of God He made man"-this is the text used most to support capital punishment.
5 | How did sin exist in Heaven? | Bible general Archive 1 | JonnyRay49423 | 4197
Did sin exist before the Fall of Adam in Paradise? Where there sin in heaven before the creation of the earth? I do not know? The Bible does not reveal to us why satan revolted and was casted out of the presence of God. Not everything is revealed to us. As a Christian we have to learn to live with questions. |

7 | taught to love enemies but hate satan | Bible general Archive 1 | JonnyRay49423 | 4382
We are to hate Satan because he is the enemy of God-we are to love our enemies because we hope they will turn from their sins and become lovers of God. Satan will never repent and bow to the Lordship of Christ. "that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. . . Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect" Matt.5:45,48

I recommend these two books-"Making Of The New Testament-Origin, Collection, Text, and Canon" by Arthur G. Patzia and "The Journey from Texts to Translations-The Origin and Development of the Bible" by Paul D. Wegner
10 | Is church attendance important? | NT general Archive 1 | JonnyRay49423 | 3033
I do think church attendance is important because as Christians were are all members of the Body of Christ-as Christians we are a part of the new people of God-we should not live out our spiritual lives in isolation-we need to belong to somekind of Christian fellowship-at the same time I do not think one will not go to heaven if he does not attend church-but he or she should seek out fellowship with other Christians-we need each other spiritually. We do need to sit under the preaching of the Bible-the sacraments-the gifts of other Christians-also the visible church is to be a light to the lost world-we need to support the visible church as it takes the gospel to sinners-missions-local community outreach-etc. . . We suffer spiritually if we neglect fellowshipping with other Christians.
11 | Why was Christ baptized? | NT general Archive 1 | JonnyRay49423 | 3036
One will notice that at the baptism of Jesus the Holy Spirit came upon Him-one has written "However, it is interesting to note John's record of John the Baptist's testimony: "I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him" (John 1:32). Leon Morris sees this as indicating that "the whole of Jesus' ministry is accomplished in the power of the Spirit." . . . The descent of the Spirit upon Jesus at His baptism was His inauguration into His messianic task rather than His inauguration into the messianic age. . . The baptism is itself the crucial turning point in which the Spirit leads Jesus from obscurity to prominence"
12 | Artifical insemination | Genesis | JonnyRay49423 | 2379
We see from the Book of Genesis the importance of family. Adam and Eve were a family. Children were to be conceived within the context of a family. Christians should not do anything to destroy the biblical doctrine of marriage/family. Children are be coneived through the God ordained method of sex within the marriage relationship. I see nothing unbiblical with a single person adopting a child. |

13 | How old is the earth scripturally? | Gen 1:1 | JonnyRay49423 | 4328
The earth is six to seven thousand old. The Bible does not give the idea the earth is billions or millions of years old. Genesis chapters 1 and 2 clearly teach God made the earth and man in six days and rested on the seventh day. |

14 | When God himself has selected Moses to f | Ex 4:24 | JonnyRay49423 | 3024
Moses had not place on his son the sign of the covenant "circumcision" (Josh.5:2-9)
15 | Why eat no fat? Leviticus | Leviticus | JonnyRay49423 | 2539
We are told why blood is taboo, because atonement is made through it (Lev.17:11). The reason for the prohibition of eating fat remains obscure. Calvin may well be right in thinking that fat in the OT can be synonymous with "the best" (Gen.45:18; Ps.81:17[Eng.16]). By giving the fat the worshipper was giving the best of the animal; and insofar as the animal was thought to represent the man, the worshipper showed he was giving God the best part of his life.
16 | joshua set twelve stones | Josh 4:9 | JonnyRay49423 | 3025
The twelve stones were meant to provide occasions for teaching, for impressing upon the next generation Yahweh's mighty act at the Jordan. We can almost see it now. Fifteen years post-Jordan time an Israelite father and his six year-old son are strolling through Gilgal National Park. The lad spots an imposing pile of stones. He counts twelve, and exclaims, "Hey, Daddy, what are those stones for?" The son's curiosity now becomes the occasion for communicating to him the news of Israel's astounding God and how he unleased his power for his people.
17 | Where is Dan? | Josh 19:40 | JonnyRay49423 | 2536
We are not to take Rev.7 literally. What we have described in Rev.7 is a spiritual picture of the redeemed Church. In Rev.8 we have the seventh seal broken pointing to the final judgement. God seals the 144,000 meaning the elect will be spared the Day of Judgement. Dan is not listed because the purpose of the chapter is not to set forth the twelve tribes of Israel as set forth in the OT. The writer of Rev. is giving us a heavenly picture of the Church.
18 | So are you saying | Josh 19:40 | JonnyRay49423 | 2594
I know there are Christians out there who want to interpret the The Revelation of Jesus Christ literally-so when we come to Rev.7 this must be a real picture of the OT tribes of Israel in heaven with the tribe of Dan missing-to me this interpretation would not make sense-what we find in Revelation are visions. I do believe in the doctrine of eternal punishment-it is a literal lake of fire? That I do not know? I do not see a literal thousand reign of Christ on the earth taught in the Bible. I do not see the mark of the beast to be something visible to the naked eye. Once again what we have here are two different approaches to how one interprets Scripture. |
