1 | How much longer must we wait, Lord? | Not Specified | Glory Bound | 129660
I know that this is a Bible study forum, and my question may be out of line, but it is biblical and I would sincerely like to generate a topic of discussion concerning the following. 1) I know it has been said for generations past, and that no man knows that hour, but, and I pose this question only to the scriptural learned; Can the second coming of our Savior not be far off considering the state of affairs in this world today? i.e. the Jewish exodus from France back to their homeland, - thousands daily, due to persecution; The state of near apostasy in this very country, i.e. the removal of centuries old bibles in the front of court houses, and the removal of Judges from the bench for refusing to order the removal of the Ten Commandments from public view, etc etc etc??? 2) Does any scripturally learned Christian actually believe they can justify voting Democratic? Oh I know there are many who call themselves Christians who do, and they can blab a good defense without quoting a single biblical passage. Thanks for your scripturally founded thoughts. GB |

2 | a more revealing light. | Not Specified | Glory Bound | 132618
We all have our ups and downs, our spiritually strong and weak moments. Scripture tells us that we are to judge ourselves. When I do this I can imagine nothing other than what it is I know I deserve. And that, most assuredly isn’t what I desire. Though I know without a doubt that my Savior died on the cross to pay the penalty for my sins, I also know, that for every promise in scripture, there is a requirement. There are two sides to every covenant. Try as I may, I cannot uphold my side. My spirit indeed is willing, but my flesh is weak. I do not succumb to the temptation of believing that the only requirement for salvation is to believe, for I know that one must also repent, and that even the demons themselves believe and tremble. Though I am very familiar with scripture, it is when I am weakest that I learn the most. Often I am put in mind of a very familiar passage in a more revealing light. Where do you go when in doubt concerning your salvation? GB |

3 | What is an acceptiable "Biblical questn? | Not Specified | Glory Bound | 134062
What is an acceptiable "Biblical question?" Why can a "Biblical question" not be asked concerning politics? This sounds very much like the opposite end of another question concerning Church and state. Carefull with your answers, please. I know this is not a political forum. This is the very reason I participate herein, I hope to see biblical, not worldly answers. Are not the professors herein strong enough in the Word to give biblical answers concerning political questions without quarreling? There are many people who have sincere questions concerning biblical principles where politics are concerned. Questions which should be answered in such a forum. Were there a Christian Political forum, perhaps such would be better, but I know of none, so does this relieve us of our responsibilities as Christians concerning political questions? Or are we scaired that the true nature of some will surface and they may be seen in a different light? Scripture states that we should know our brethren. Not that we should knopw them except for their political views. Or do we in this forum, not wish to know one another this deep? Politics are nasty. We live in a nasty world. We are not to be conformed to this nasty world. But does this mean that just because we are Christians, we are not to vote, or share our questions and Gods Word concerning such? Or are we simply not to do this in the "Study Bible Forum?" Sincerely in Christ GB |

4 | Christians before Jesus came | Bible general Archive 2 | Glory Bound | 128733
Though some will surely profess otherwise, the truth of the matter is that there were NO Christians before Jesus. The word "khris-tee-an-os'", or as translated from the Greek, “Christian,” means follower of Christ. Before Christ, there were no "followers of Christ." According to the book of Acts, the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch. In scripture, this is the first mention of the pronoun, Christian. The only 3 occurrances are in Act_11:26; Act_26:28; and 1Pe_4:16; As to how people were saved prior to Jesus' sacrifice; I have done no in depth study on the matter, but from what I have read in scripture, it boiled down to living right, sacrificing and obeying the word of God. Isn't that what it is all about in the first place, obeying the word? Jesus was and is the word. GB |

Chesed, I am sorry that you misread or misunderstood my statement, for I did not state any "conditions for salvation." I was answering the second part of the original question which, if you "read" it, has nothing to do with anyone after the Savior. What I stated was as follows. "As to how people were saved prior to Jesus' sacrifice; I have done no in depth study on the matter, but from what I have read in scripture, it boiled down to living right, sacrificing and obeying the word of God. Isn't that what it is all about in the first place, obeying the word? Jesus was and is the word." If one obeys the word, they will believe in Jesus. Concerning Grace, you are confusing New Testament doctrine with Old Testament times. Scripture states that we are “saved by Grace through faith.” This statement was made “after Christ made His sacrifice and has nothing to do with the salvation of those prior to Jesus. If you can provide scripture to support your statement, which as I read it, and I paraphrase, says that even those before Christ were “saved by Grace through faith,” I would be glad to debate this matter. Otherwise, if you have no scriptural foundation for your statement, it is simple conjecture. I have no desire to debate conjecture, for you are entitled to your opinion. I prefer scriptural fact. If one reads the Old Testament accounts, the facts concerning this matter should be evident. Please be aware Chesed; though I have been here before, I am relatively new to this board and its current members. I know some, but there are considerably more, including yourself which I do not know. I am a fairly learned student of scripture, and I am very familiar with the antics of many which wish to engage in its debate. I am not saying that you are doing this, but when they were plainly stated, and a reader misquotes my words, I tend to wonder if the reader is intentionally trying to twist my words into something I did not say. Once I realize someone is attempting to twist my words, this someone looses all credibility with me and I loose all desire to debate with this person. In Christ and His truth GB |

Did I say "that there was no grace or forgiveness in the OT?" Please provide some scriptural references concerning someone in the OT who was saved "by grace, through faith.” ie Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Noah found Grace in the eyes of the Lord. Abraham, Moses, David, Isaiah and many others did the same. By the way, Abraham was the father of faith. What other commands of the Lord did they follow? What was the role of the law in OT times? 7 | Christians before Jesus came | Bible general Archive 2 | Glory Bound | 128770
Gen 15:6 And he had faith in the Lord, and it was put to his account as righteousness. But did righteousness provide salvation? Has it ever? I don’t think so. Why did the Lord require sacrifices in OT times? I still contend that, in a more literal sense, OT salvation depended on “living right, sacrificing and obeying the word of God.” Likewise today, we are told to live as Jesus did. To do so we must make some sort of sacrifices on a daily basis, whether it be avoiding an argument even when we know we are right, committing some act of kindness at our own expense, or what. Back then, they simply had to believe Gods Word and live it. Today one simply has to believe in the Son He sent to pay our sin debt, confess our sins, repent and accept His gift. The rest will come with spiritual growth. GB |

I give up! As I noted in an earlier post, I am familiar with the antics of many who use these boards. Your antics are obvious and I have no desire for farther debate. Open your bible. Read it with an open mind and closed mouth, for it will be of no benifit for you to yack at it either. Then read it again. Discussion ended. GB |

Hi Emmaus Considering what is said in Ephesians 6:12 "NIV" "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." Would you not say that it is likely that those guilty of the lifestyle of the sodomite could be "possessed"? Many would label me radical, but something in me tells me that there is so much that we simply do not know, and I feel that there are hoards of "spirits of evil" out there inflicting humanity to an extent which no one is fully are of, or willing to admit to. i.e. Spirits of alcoholism, theft, perversion, and on and on and on. I know there are man made labels and excuses for these "diseases." but I feel that it is simple. There simply isn't enough adherence to what is said in the Word. GB |

Hi Ed. Forgive me, this is off the subject, but this subject put me in mind of the following. With all the "versions" of scripture, do you not feel, like I, that they are diluting and possiably deluding scripture, and leading us to the verge of another division? Surely the time is near! GB |

Where is Jesus' statement you paraphrased, Ed? I've probably read over it a hundred times. That's what I get for using the NIV. I read it too fast and overlook too much. KJ makes me think, and the older I get, the harder that gets. GB |

14 | I married wrong woman,what can I do? | Bible general Archive 2 | Glory Bound | 130575
My wife, which is 20 years my senior, was married to a man she didn't love for over 30 years. Like many, she married to get out of the nest. She is a wonderful Christian, the most spiritually influential person I have ever known. She really didn't know him when they first married. He became a thief, and a liar and remained such till near the end of his life. She nearly single handedly raised all 5 of her children. She will occasionally tell me of the embarrassment she endured because of the lack of moral character he had. I have studied scripture concerning marriage and divorce and am convinced that it is because of my wife that her deceased previous husband managed to accept the Savior. The scripture comes to mind, and I paraphrase, “No grater love has anyone, than that they would give their life for another.” She gave much of her life to someone whom, other than as another child of God, she simply did not love. Although there are 3 ways out of a marriage according to scripture, there is no doubt that self-sacrifice and love of the Lord is the more honorable route Joyce and I are rapidly approaching our 20th anniversary. I have 5 children; 4 boys and 1 girl. My oldest son is 3 years older than I. (I love to tell folks that I got started EARLIER than life.) I have 16 grandkids and 13 grates. All steps of course, but they all love me, and I love them as though they were my own. They are, and will always be my only children. GB |

15 | Is the bible complete and inerrant? | Bible general Archive 2 | Glory Bound | 130577
Actually, the deeper I get into scripture, the more I come to the realization that scripture as a whole, says many things that it does not say dirrectly. I thought sure that I had read your thought in scripture. That: "Jesus said the next great event would be His return." It may be unwritten, but I believe that it is there. GB |

16 | homosexuality | Bible general Archive 2 | Glory Bound | 130580
Hank, did I say "a homosexual was any more "possessed" than any other garden-variety sinner?" Hank, Did I say that "Scripture lowered the boom on one class of sinners while letting another class off the hook with a light slap on the wrist?" What did I state that was not scriptural, Hank? Sin is sin. There is but one unpardonable sin. Did I "state" anything otherwise? GB |

17 | They were not born again at time of marr | Bible general Archive 2 | Glory Bound | 131487
Vows before God are vows, whether Catholic, Protestant, Episcopalian, or what. A renewal of ones vows does not make one any more married than the original. If there were a difference, one could simply change religion, then claim their marriage was no longer valid. GB |

18 | Have you ever read a book by a Catholic? | Bible general Archive 2 | Glory Bound | 131496
Just curious... Christ stated "No man cometh to the Father but by me." Why do Catholics go before Priests to confess their sins? This is OT, not NT. Why do Catholics pray to the Saints? Unlike Christ, they are not omnipotent. They could not possibly hear the prayers of all the Catholics. Even if they could, there is but ONE intercessor between God and man, the man Christ Jesus. I am Protestant. I will always be so. Yet, though I do not believe as the Catholics do, it seems that the action of the Catholic Church is often closer to true Christianity than that of many professing Christian Churches. Christ, believing Him, what He did, and accepting the salvation He has made available, is all that matters. As long as the Foundation is Christ, denomination is simply icing on the top of the cake. 19 | should a catholic marraige be sanctified | Bible general Archive 2 | Glory Bound | 131497
Steve. Without injecting opinion, can you please quote the scripture that supports your statement? Isn't a "non believer" not a Christian? What of the Believer who is (married) to the "non Believer?" One could also state that a heathen marriage is when a heathen man marries a heathen woman. Likewise an American marriage is when an American man marries an American women, and so on. Is this what you are stating? GB |

Personally, I currently have absolutely no desire to read anything you recommend, either pro or anti Catholic. Nor do I desire to fit the classification you consider scholarly, by doing such. I simply asked a couple questions out of curiosity. If you aren't qualified to answer them, so be it. GB |
