1 | Relation to Galatians 3:16... | Gen 17:7 | Gal5:16 | 105534
Hasa anyone ever researched this verse in relation to Galatians 3:16?
2 | Thanks, Follow - Up Question/Comment | Gen 17:7 | Gal5:16 | 105576
Thank you all for your responses. I am puzzled over the fact that most English translations of this verse replace the word "seed" (singular) with "descendants" (plural). Even though the KJV gets the plurality of the word "seed" right, it would seem that the word "their" that follows makes it plural again. Any thoughts?
3 | Relation to Galatians 3:16... | Gen 17:7 | Gal5:16 | 105591
Sorry, I am new at this site, couldn't figure out how to follow up, and ended up creating another user. Anyway, I agree with all of your comments, and related verses. What I am trying to get at is why the English translation of this verse (Genesis 17:7) says "their" refering to the Seed after Abraham, when Paul is saying there is no "they"; the Promise applies to Abraham and Jesus Christ. We find out in Galatians that those who are in Christ are also included, but that does not make Christ more than one. I am thinking that the original Hebrew must use a different word that goes something like: "I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your seed after you throughout HIS generations for an everlasting covenant..." His generations are all of those who have been born into the family of God since His resurrection, and those who had lived by faith prior to his coming. Still searching... |

4 | Perfection possible through the Spirit! | Matt 5:48 | Gal5:16 | 105604
We are commanded to be perfect. God has provided the way through the Holy Spirit (see Galatians 5:16). That is how Jesus overcame the world; He had the Spirit without limit (John 3:34). Saying that perfection is not possible is denying the power of the Holy Spirit (see 2Timothy 3:6). In other words, if perfection is not possible for us, then Christ did not accomplish it either. We have the same Spirit as Christ if we have died to the sinful nature and are born again and are controlled by a new nature - the very nature of God. Those who God knew before the creation of the world, he predestined to be conformed into the likeness of His Son (see Romans 8:29) |

5 | Why remain defeated? | Heb 10:14 | Gal5:16 | 108091
Why do we hang on to that sinful nature so dearly? Everyone always quotes the later part of Romans chapter 7 because they find that it soothes their guilt! Move on to chapter 8! "You however are not controlled by the sinful nature, but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you..." People have turned what Paul was saying about the sinful nature before you die to it, into a license to sin. The reason your conscience is not clear is that you still sin. Read 2 Timothy 2:19 if you think that remaining in your defeated state is okay. People love to quote 1 John 1:8-2:2 to prove their point that everyone sins, has sinned, and will always sin. Again, keep going! Read 1 John chapter 3. "No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him." Even in the former passage the Holy Spirit tells us that the point is that you will not sin! It says "But IF anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense", not WHEN everybody sins! Do I claim to be perfect? No, not yet. The difference between me and the other commentors is that I believe that Christ will produce it in me before I die. One question I always ask people to which they cannot respond is if perfection is not humanly possible, then how did Jesus do it. We deny the power of the Holy Spirit which we have received through Christ when we refuse to believe that he will produce in us the kind of righteousness that the Father requires. 2 Timothy 3:1-5 is fulfilled before our eyes. To those who are waiting for death to come before they are perfected, I refer you to 1 John 3 where the Holy Spirit calls you a deceiver trying to lead us astray. If I do what is right, I am righteous, just as Jesus is righteous. You who do what is sinful are of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason Jesus appeared was to destroy the devil's. work. Again, no one who is born of God will continue to sin because God's seed (which is the Holy Spirit) remains in him; he cannot go on sinning because he has been born of God. |

6 | Do you accept defeat too? | Heb 10:14 | Gal5:16 | 108093
2 Samuel 22: Thank you for your login id. I read (or understood) that chapter for the first time. Do you accept defeat too? The passage that is your creed paints an entirely different picture. "For I have kept the ways of the Lord. I have not done evil by turning from his decrees. I have been blameless before him and have kept myself from sin.", and later "It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect" Keep in mind that 2 Samuel 22 is after 2 Samuel 12. David repented, and trusted God to produce righteousness in him. |

7 | My conscience is clear | Heb 10:14 | Gal5:16 | 108125
Steve/Indiana: I love you. Please forgive me if I came across judgemental or prideful. My intent is not to boast, but to set the record straight. God's words have been twisted by men for long enough. What I see happening is God's grace has been twisted into a license to sin. Now, however, is the time for the church to judge itself, and you must excuse me while I let God form me into the likeness of God's Son - Jesus Christ (1 Peter 4:17 and Romans 8:29) Jesus was fully God and fully man. The way he overcame the world was through his submission to the Father's will which he knew because he had God's Spirit without limit. He was made like us in every way (Hebrews 2:16-18) so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest. He was capable of sinning, or the fact that he overcame would not be an accomplishment (John 16:33). I will never boast in myself if that is what you are trying to get me to do. I will say only this; My conscience is clear, is yours? John 3:34 - For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limit. 1 Peter 4:17 - For it is time for judgment to begin with the family of God; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God? |

8 | Why is it so hard to believe? | Heb 10:14 | Gal5:16 | 108127
Please explain to me how you think that those passages can be construed to mean that we will always sin. I am getting the exact opposite. What part of "If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth." says that we are going to sin? On the contrary, "If we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin." Unless you are saying that you can walk in the light and sin at the same time? How many verses can I point out against that notion? On to "If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us": I do not claim that I am perfect yet, but my conscience is clear. Paul claimed this over and over again. I am simply saying that I have the hope that I will be changed into the likeness of God's Son one day. In your follow up post you reference 1John 3:2 - notice the word "when". It's not "after he appears", it's "when he appears". It's the same thing in 1John 3:28 "And now, dear children, continue in him, so that when he appears we may be confident and unashamed before him at his coming." Why do you refuse to believe that the Holy Spirit in me is capable of producing perfection/holiness identical to that of Jesus Christ? I have received the Spirit of Christ Jesus, and have died to my sinful nature. I am not living my life anymore, but Christ's. He bought me at a price, and now I will live for him. For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of selfÂdiscipline (2 Timothy 1:7). I choose, therefore, to live by the Spirit, and keep in step with the Spirit, and claim the promise that I will not gratify the desires of my sinful nature if I do (See Galatians 5). God's word cannot be broken, and God cannot lie. The same God that created the universe with words spoke that promise, and I believe it. |

9 | Do you acknowledge -Jesus is God's Son? | Heb 10:14 | Gal5:16 | 108128
I'm sorry, did you just call me a false prophet? Careful, when the Pharisees said that Jesus drove out demons "only by Beelzebub", he warned that "anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven". You do not know me, so perhaps you spoke in ignorance. I forgive you. Contrary to what you may think, I am a believer and a disciple in Christ Jesus who is sick and tired of hearing that perfection is not possibly in this life. Go ahead and use 1John 4 to test me! I acknowledge that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh! I acknowledge that Jesus is the Son of God! Do you acknowledge that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh? Do you acknowledge that Jesus is the Son of God? |

10 | Even Satan believes - why don't you? | Heb 10:14 | Gal5:16 | 108187
You are in error, and every man must attest to his own veracity. I believe that Jesus is God's Word that became flesh - that is discussed in John 1. 1 John 4:2,15, however, are very clear. Read it again: "This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: "Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God..." and "If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God. I do believe that Jesus lived a sinless life, but I absolutely believe that he was capable of sinning as you yourself pointed out by quoting Hebrews 4:15. What was the use of tempting him if it was futile? Even Satan knew that had potential to sin, why don't you believe it? |

11 | Was that done in love? | Heb 10:14 | Gal5:16 | 108188
Interesting that you would choose a typographical error to take a stab at me with. Was that done in love? What would you do with more amunition, such as a bald head, a birth defect, or a speech impediment? If you knew me, would you find other things to poke fun at me about? What about the people around you? You are defeated. Turn to Christ, he will set you free.
12 | Need to qualify the acknowledgement? | Heb 10:14 | Gal5:16 | 108189
I'm glad that you do acknowledge this. This means that you do not have the spirit of the Antichrist, and there is yet hope. I am a little concerned, however, that you felt the need to qualify the acknowledgement with a disclaimer. |

13 | How do you explain these passages then? | Heb 10:14 | Gal5:16 | 108193
Thank you for your post. I could feel the love, and the genuineness of the way you disagreed. How then, do you explain Revelation 2:7, 17, 26 and 3:5? He who overcomes is going to be given the right to eat from the tree of life, be given a white stone with a new name written on it, be given some of the hidden manna and authority over the nations, he will be dressed in white, and will not have his name blotted out of the book of life, and Jesus will acknowledge him before his Father. There are many, many more passages that you are going to have to explain as well. |

14 | Loving only to one's face? | Heb 10:14 | Gal5:16 | 108195
This one written about me is not as loving. Loving to one's face, but not behind their back?
15 | No greater bond than a common enemy? | Heb 10:14 | Gal5:16 | 108196
I recall two rulers of Israel that also became friends, after a history of disagreement, when they gained a common enemy.
16 | Why not see for yourself? | Heb 10:14 | Gal5:16 | 108199
Let us not forget the verse we are discussing Hebrews 10:14. According to this verse we have already been made perfect, and are BEING made holy. I use the two words interchangeably sometimes, and perhaps I should more correctly be talking about holiness. We are already perfect by Christ's one sacrifice. Conscience and guilt, however, are different matters. Plug the keywords into Biblegateway, and, with regard to conscience, you will find that Paul declared that his conscience was clear: "My conscience is clear, but that does not make me innocent. It is the Lord who judges me." and again "Now this is our boast: Our conscience testifies that we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially in our relations with you, in the holiness and sincerity that are from God. We have done so not according to worldly wisdom but according to God's grace." With regard to guilt, in Hebrews 10:22 it says "...let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water." Listen to your conscience, and surrender the things that are holding you back from victory in Jesus Christ. He wants to overcome the world for you if you will let him. There are rewards for you if you do. Read Revelation 2 and 3! I'm not making this stuff up. Please do not take my word for it, but research it yourself. Why not? |

17 | Funny thing to take comfort in. | Heb 10:14 | Gal5:16 | 108200
The only problem is that the enemy of those two rulers was a righteous man. There are consequences - look into it.
18 | Time is short, why not wake up? | Heb 10:14 | Gal5:16 | 108201
Please read 1 John 2:28 and 3:2. It does not not after he appears we become like him, it says when he comes we will be like him. Likewise the parable about the servants waiting for their master's return, after waking up from a long sleep. The servants that did not have oil in their lamps when the master returned were not permitted to enter. It's okay, you are not the only one that has been deceived by this lie that the devil has used to rob the cross of it's power, and keep Christians defeated. Now is the time to rise up, awake! The end is closer than ever. |

19 | Time is short, why not wake up? | Heb 10:14 | Gal5:16 | 108216
You missed the point. Arguing about this any further is pointless. I will close with this, and you are free to have the last word: "Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to your care. Turn away from godless chatter and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge, which some have professed and in so doing have wandered from the faith. Grace be with you" |

20 | How do you explain these passages then? | Heb 10:14 | Gal5:16 | 108217
The only overcoming that can be done is now.
