3 | Primary purpose of the written Gospels | Not Specified | Emmaus | 48815
Hank and Reformer Joe: What are your opinions on this question? Were the Gospels and the rest of the New Testament written primarily for the building up and catechising of those who had already converted to Christ or for the purpose of evangelizing non christians? I am not saying that the Gospel is not to be preached to the unblievers for purposes of conversion or that the substance of the preaching should not be from the Gospels, Epistles, Acts and Revelation. But there is a school of thought which holds that the written Gospels as well as the rest of the NT were written primarily by believers for believers to strengthen believer and that there is a preumption of faith in Christ in them. This of course is more apparent and explicit in the Epistles and Revelation, but what doe you think about the Gospels in this regard? Emmaus |

4 | Jesus cleanes the leper. What do we see? | Not Specified | Emmaus | 75669
How about doing a little Bible Study on the StudyBibleForum? I would like to discuss the passaage in Mark 1:40-45, when Jesus cleanses the leper. "And a leper *came to Jesus, beseeching Him and falling on his knees before Him, and saying, "If You are willing, You can make me clean." Moved with compassion, Jesus stretched out His hand and touched him, and *said to him, "I am willing; be cleansed." Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cleansed. And He sternly warned him and immediately sent him away, and He *said to him, "See that you say nothing to anyone; but go, show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded, as a testimony to them." But he went out and began to proclaim it freely and to spread the news around, to such an extent that Jesus could no longer publicly enter a city, but stayed out in unpopulated areas; and they were coming to Him from everywhere." What do we see in this passage? Emmaus |

6 | Interpretation of is 1:18? | Not Specified | Emmaus | 75827
Is 1:18 "Come now let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall become white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool." The usual interpretaion of this verse is that the red and crimson refer to the sins of Israel but the white refers to Israel's purification. Has anyone heard a different interpretaion of this passage? Emmaus |

7 | David, Bathsheba's child died on 7th day | Not Specified | Emmaus | 75828
2 Samuel 12:18 The first child of David and Bathseba, conceived in adultery died on the seventh day before he could be circumcised into the Covenant. This is an interesting detail, but it seems to me that often the little details are significant and are there because they are important. Doe anyone else see this as significant? |

Reposting Justme's post which he aksed no be responded to so it would stay up. PLEASE DO NOT ANSWER THIS, I AM POSTING IT AS A PRAYER REQUEST. I would like it to stay for a awhile please.:-) I have many large blood clots in my right leg, that have gone to both lungs. This is a critical and dangerous condition. The prognosis is grim from a medical stand point. The doctors are amazed I am not in great pain and I can breath with good oxygen saturation. Everyone is stumped as to how I have made it thus far. The next 90 days either will take me home to be with the Lord or I will begin to improve. I request specifically that you to pray for me to be in the Father's direct will for my life, and for my family. Blessings to all the Forum for you have been a rich blessing in my life! I am at peace, and rest in Jesus Christ. I have known Jesus Christ as Lord from the age of 9. My favorite Scripture is Psalm 139. justme (Mike) |

14 | What is the soul, its purpose? | Bible general Archive 3 | Emmaus | 158115
http://www.scborromeo.org/ccc/para/797.htm III. THE CHURCH IS THE TEMPLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT 797 "What the soul is to the human body, the Holy Spirit is to the Body of Christ, which is the Church."243 "To this Spirit of Christ, as an invisible principle, is to be ascribed the fact that all the parts of the body are joined one with the other and with their exalted head; for the whole Spirit of Christ is in the head, the whole Spirit is in the body, and the whole Spirit is in each of the members." The Holy Spirit makes the Church "the temple of the living God" (2 Cor 6:16; cf. 1 Cor 3:16-17; Eph 2:21) Indeed, it is to the Church herself that the "Gift of God" has been entrusted. . . . In it is in her that communion with Christ has been deposited, that is to say: the Holy Spirit, the pledge of incorruptibility, the strengthening of our faith and the ladder of our ascent to God. . . . For where the Church is, there also is God's Spirit; where God's Spirit is, there is the Church and every grace.24 (St. Irenaeus, Adv. haeres. 3,24,1:PG 7/1,966) http://www.scborromeo.org/ccc/p1s2c1p6.htm#362 II. "BODY AND SOUL BUT TRULY ONE" 362 The human person, created in the image of God, is a being at once corporeal and spiritual. The biblical account expresses this reality in symbolic language when it affirms that "then the LORD God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being." Man, whole and entire, is therefore willed by God. 363 In Sacred Scripture the term "soul" often refers to human life or the entire human person. But "soul" also refers to the innermost aspect of man, that which is of greatest value in him, that by which he is most especially in God's image: "soul" signifies the spiritual principle in man. 364 The human body shares in the dignity of "the image of God": it is a human body precisely because it is animated by a spiritual soul, and it is the whole human person that is intended to become, in the body of Christ, a temple of the Spirit:232 Man, though made of body and soul, is a unity. Through his very bodily condition he sums up in himself the elements of the material world. Through him they are thus brought to their highest perfection and can raise their voice in praise freely given to the Creator. For this reason man may not despise his bodily life. Rather he is obliged to regard his body as good and to hold it in honor since God has created it and will raise it up on the last day. 233 365 The unity of soul and body is so profound that one has to consider the soul to be the "form" of the body:234 i.e., it is because of its spiritual soul that the body made of matter becomes a living, human body; spirit and matter, in man, are not two natures united, but rather their union forms a single nature. 366 The Church teaches that every spiritual soul is created immediately by God - it is not "produced" by the parents - and also that it is immortal: it does not perish when it separates from the body at death, and it will be reunited with the body at the final Resurrection.235 367 Sometimes the soul is distinguished from the spirit: St. Paul for instance prays that God may sanctify his people "wholly", with "spirit and soul and body" kept sound and blameless at the Lord's coming.236 The Church teaches that this distinction does not introduce a duality into the soul.237 "Spirit" signifies that from creation man is ordered to a supernatural end and that his soul can gratuitously be raised beyond all it deserves to communion with God.238 . 232 St. Thomas Aquinas, STh III,48,2. 233 Acts of the Trial of Joan of Arc. 234 Jn 3:29. 235 Mk 2:19. 236 Cf. Mt 22:1-14; 25:1-13; 1 Cor 6:15-17; 2 Cor 11:2. 237 Cf. Rev 22:17; Eph 1:4; 5:27. 238 Eph 5:25-26. |

19 | A Thought-provoking question | Bible general Archive 3 | Emmaus | 164161
taraleigh, "For our sake God made him to be sin" "Consequently, St. Peter can formulate the apostolic faith in the divine plan of salvation in this way: "You were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your fathers. . . with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. He was destined before the foundation of the world but was made manifest at the end of the times for your sake."(1 Pt 1:18-20) Man's sins, following on original sin, are punishable by death.(Cf. Rom 5:12; 1 Cor 15:56) By sending his own Son in the form of a slave, in the form of a fallen humanity, on account of sin, God "made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God."(2 Cor 5:21; cf. Phil 2:7; Rom 8:3) "Jesus did not experience reprobation as if he himself had sinned.(Cf. Jn 8:46) But in the redeeming love that always united him to the Father, he assumed us in the state of our waywardness of sin, to the point that he could say in our name from the cross: "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"(Mk 15:34; Ps 22:2; cf. Jn 8:29) Having thus established him in solidarity with us sinners, God "did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all", so that we might be "reconciled to God by the death of his Son".(Rom 8:32; 5:10)" http://www.scborromeo.org/ccc/p122a4p2.htm#602 Emmaus |
