2 | Jews at the Wailing Wall of Jerusalem | Not Specified | Country Girl | 126011
I've been watching some news articles and every once in a while, catch some passing photos and video depicting Jews praying at the famous Wailing Wall of Jerusalem. I realize the name comes from all the grief meted out to the Jews over the centuries with emphasis to their loss as a nation in the first century. Now my question about their body motions there at the wall. Why is it when these Jews pray or read from their scriptures, they rock their heads or their upper torso back and forth? It's always been kinda curious to me but I'm just now remembering to ask those of you that might know. Please enlighten me. Thanks and blessings to you all. Country Girl |

3 | Can we learn anything from Naaman? | Not Specified | Country Girl | 127219
What should we learn from Naaman and his story about his healing from leporsy? 2 Kin 5:9 So Naaman came with his horses and his chariots and stood at the doorway of the house of Elisha. 2 Kin 5:10 Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, "Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh will be restored to you and you will be clean." 2 Kin 5:11 But Naaman was furious and went away and said, "Behold, I thought, 'He will surely come out to me and stand and call on the name of the LORD his God, and wave his hand over the place and cure the leper.' 2 Kin 5:12 "Are not Abanah and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Could I not wash in them and be clean?" So he turned and went away in a rage. 2 Kin 5:13 Then his servants came near and spoke to him and said, "My father, had the prophet told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it? How much more then, when he says to you, 'Wash, and be clean'?" 2 Kin 5:14 So he went down and dipped himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the word of the man of God; and his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child and he was clean. 2 Kin 5:15 When he returned to the man of God with all his company, and came and stood before him, he said, "Behold now, I know that there is no God in all the earth, but in Israel; so please take a present from your servant now." We all know that quite often the OT casted foreshadows of things to come in the future so what could we gain from this story as there is nothing quite like it in the rest of the OT? I would say the climax is reached in verse 14 so I would especially be interested in your response to that verse. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

4 | Christianity -- American style vs... | Not Specified | Country Girl | 128081
I just read a wonderful article and wanted to share it with you. It was written by a christian preacher from Tennessee. Finding Patrick On a recent visit to Tanzania I had the privilege to go with some fellow christians to the city of Wanza up on the shores of Lake Victoria. We drove clear across the Serengeti plains in Tanzania and arrived about dark. Boaz, one of our fellow christian travellers found us a place to stay and then told us he was going to find Patrick, the adopted son of Francis and Margaret Wechesa. Understand, we were in the second largest city in Tanzania with over a million people, and Boaz is on foot setting out at dark to find a man who has no phone and no address! About three hours later Boaz returned to where we were staying and announced, "I have found Patrick and have gotten the address to Isaac's house. We will go there in the morning. Well, my first question was, "Boaz, how in the world did you find Patrick?" Boaz replied, "I tracked him down through his Bible studies. I asked a man if they knew Patrick and he told me he did not know the man's name but there was a fellow who was teaching the Gospel in that area and he gave me directions to the street where he had been teaching. I went there and talked to others who had heard him, and eventually I found someone who knew where he lived." Unbelievable!! A million people, one fellow, no phone, no address, in the dark of the night!! Only in Africa! I got to thinking about my own life and wondered if anyone could track me down by the people I had been teaching the Gospel. I would not be far from the mark to say there was a sudden shame that came over me at the realization that, while I would be considered faithful to the Lord, and evangelistic in nature with a desire to spread the truth, I could not honestly think of any street in my home town where people could tell a stranger that, "We know a man who has been teaching the Gospel and we will take you to him." No question about it -- I must do better. God said to teach His Word and it would not come back void. He said to plant the Seed (His Word) and He would bring forth the increase. That's what I need to be doing. One day someone may be trying to find me and I would hope someone would tell them, "I know that man. He is teaching the Gospel; let me show you where he lives." Thank you, Patrick, for demonstrating what I should be doing in the Kingdom right in my own city. End of article. Oh, if we could only enjoy the wonderful sense and tremendous value of Christianity like Patrick shows his fellow family members. Would anyone have a suggestion as to how we could get a little closer to this standard of real and genuine Christianity? Blessings to you for reading this far. Country Girl |

5 | Random Acts of Kindness | Not Specified | Country Girl | 128952
Recently I've posted a couple statements discussing acts of kindness or items of work for our Lord and thought this article certainly qualifies. The BIG bonus is...it's a true story. Sorry had to subdivide it. Random Acts of Kindness (Part 1) As she stood in front of her 5th grade class on the very first day of school, she told the children an untruth. Like most teachers, she looked at her students and said that she loved them all the same. However, that was impossible, because there in the front row, slumped in his seat, was a little boy named Teddy Stoddard. Mrs Jean Thompson had watched Teddy the year before and noticed that he did not play well with the other children, that his clothes were messy and that he constantly needed a bath. In addition, Teddy could be unpleasant. It got to the point where Mrs Thompson would actually take delight in marking his papers with a broad red pen, making bold X's and then putting a big "F" at the top of his papers. At the school where Mrs Thompson taught, she was required to review each child's past records and she put Teddy's off until last. However, when she reviewed his file, she was in for a surprise. Teddy's first grade teacher wrote, "Teddy is a bright child with a ready laugh. He does his work neatly and has good manners...he is a joy to be around." His second grade teacher wrote, "Teddy is an excellent student, well liked by his classmates, but he is troubled because his mother has a terminal illness and life at home must be a struggle." His third grade teacher wrote, "His mother's death has been hard on him. He tries to do his best, but his father doesn't show much interest and his home life will soon affect him if some steps aren't taken." Teddy's fourth grade teacher wrote, "Teddy is withdrawn and doesn't show much interest in school. He doesn't have many friends and he sometimes sleeps in class." By now, Mrs Thompson realized the problem and she was ashamed of herself. She felt even worse when her students brought her Christmas presents, wrapped in beautiful ribbons and bright paper, except for Teddy's. His present was clumsily wrapped in the heavy, brown paper that he got from a grocery bag. Mrs Thompson took pains to open it in the middle of the other presents. Some of the children started to laugh when she found a rhinestone bracelet with some of the stones missing, and a bottle that was one-quarter full of perfume. But she stifled the children's laughter when she exclaimed how pretty the bracelet was, putting it on, and dabbing some of the perfume on her wrist. Teddy Stoddard stayed after school that day just long enough to say, "Mrs Thompson, today you smelled just like my Mom used to." After the children left, she cried for at least an hour. On that very day, she quit teaching reading, writing and arithmetic. Instead, she began to teach children. Mrs Thompson paid particular attention to Teddy. As she worked with him, his mind seemed to come alive. The more she encouraged him, the faster he responded. By the end of the year, Teddy had become one of the smartest children in the class and, despite her lie that she would love all the children the same, Teddy became one of her "teacher's pets." A year later, she found a note under her door, from Teddy, telling her that she was still the best teacher he ever had in his whole life. Please read Part II. Country Girl |

6 | Random Acts of Kindness (Part II) | Not Specified | Country Girl | 128953
Random Acts of Kindness (Part II) Six years went by before she got another note from Teddy. He then wrote that he had finished high school, third in his class, and she was still the best teacher he ever had in life. Four years after that, she got another letter, saying that while things had been tough at times, he'd stayed in school, had stuck with it, and would soon graduate from college with the highest of honors. He assured Mrs Thompson that she was still the best and favorite teacher he had ever had in his whole life. Then four more years passed and yet another letter came. This time he explained that after he got his bachelor's degree, he decided to go a little further. The letter explained that she was still the best and favorite teacher he ever had. But now his name was a little longer.... the letter was signed, Theodore F. Stoddard, MD The story does not end there. You see, there was yet another letter that Spring. Teddy said he had met this girl and was going to be married. He explained that his father had died a couple of years ago and he was wondering if Mrs Thompson might agree to sit at the wedding in the place that was usually reserved for the mother of the groom. Of course, Mrs Thompson did. And guess what? She wore that bracelet, the one with several rhinestones missing. Moreover, she made sure she was wearing the perfume that Teddy remembered his mother wearing on their last Christmas together. They hugged each other, and Dr Stoddard whispered in Mrs Thompson's ear, "Thank you Mrs Thompson for believing in me. Thank you so much for making me feel important and showing me that I could make a difference." Mrs Thompson, with tears in her eyes, whispered back. She said, "Teddy, you have it all wrong. You were the one who taught me that I could make a difference. I didn't know how to teach until I met you! ." (For those of you who don't know, Teddy Stoddard is the Dr at Iowa Methodist in Des Moines that has the Stoddard Cancer Wing.) Warm someone's heart today. . . pass this along. I love this story so very much, I cry every time I read it. Just try to make a difference in someone's life today? tomorrow? just "do it". Random acts of kindness, I think they call it? End of Article Can't add a single word. Blessings to you all. Country Girl |

8 | Should a christian believe in destiny? | Bible general Archive 2 | Country Girl | 123514
I would recommend against it, our God gives us freedom to choose our ultimate desitnation for our soul and all the choices in between now and then. It sounds intriguing and attractive to follow someone else's advice to find our "destiny" but too often it leads to someone or something that doesn't really have our best interests at heart. In my opinion, it's best to stick with God and His Word. He and His Word are the ONLY things that are absolutely reliable and we can be assured that God does have our best interests at heart. There are many scriptures that could be cited but the best I could think of is from the wisest man that ever lived and he pursue every conceivable option known to man. Eccl 12:12 But beyond this, my son, be warned: the writing of many books is endless, and excessive devotion to books is wearying to the body. Eccl 12:13 The conclusion, when all has been heard, is: fear God and keep His commandments, because this applies to every person. Eccl 12:14 For God will bring every act to judgment, everything which is hidden, whether it is good or evil. It would be wise for you to read the rest of this book. Blessings to you. Country girl. |

9 | Once | Bible general Archive 2 | Country Girl | 123522
This concept "once saved always saved" simply doesn't exist in God's Word. Among many other scriptures in support, one could cite Jesus' parable on the Prodical Son. There are many stories in the Bible depictinig God's people, including christians who sin and are rejected by one or more of the Apostles, representing God's rejection. 1 Tim 1:18 This command I entrust to you, Timothy, my son, in accordance with the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you fight the good fight, 1 Tim 1:19 keeping faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and suffered shipwreck in regard to their faith. 1 Tim 1:20 Among these are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan, so that they will be taught not to blaspheme. 10 | evil heart of unbelief (Heb 3:12) mean | Bible general Archive 2 | Country Girl | 124056
If we go to verses 16-17 of that same chapter we get an answer to this question Heb 3:16 For who provoked Him when they had heard? Indeed, did not all those who came out of Egypt led by Moses? Heb 3:17 And with whom was He angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? So we see a contrast between this kind of heart (essence of a person) in those that wandered the desert and that of King David for we know he was one of the greatest Kings that ever lived and was given one of the greatest compliments from God Himself, 1 Sam 13:14. We see further contrast of these two basic kinds of responses to God in Psalm 51 by King David. There we see what kind of heart God does want, one with humility, one that is contrite and submissive to God, not selfish and thinking only of how to get his next "fix" of power like we see in Pharaoh of Egypt. Blessings to you. Hope this helps. Country Girl |

11 | Who says the Sabbath is on Sunday | Bible general Archive 2 | Country Girl | 124095
Just to let you know: this controversy has been raging for literally two thousand years, just like it's reflected here on the forum. Some adhere to the Sabbath and quote from the Bible. Others worship on the first day of week as is cited throughout the NT. All people everywhere must study thoroughly God's Word for themselves and should make up their own mind. I worship with many thousands of other christians, throughout this country and the world on Sunday to the exclusion of Saturday. But the most important thing to remember is we'll ALL answer to God as to how we obeyed His commandments. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

13 | Who says the Sabbath is on Sunday | Bible general Archive 2 | Country Girl | 124187
I must admit as you have mentioned, there is no such verse that states "Thou shalt worship on the first day of the week and not on the Sabbath." But then we do have several verses that do cite the first day of the week as I have stated and we do have thousands of years of history showing christians worshiping on Sunday as being that first day of the week. So what are to do? What guidance do we follow? As it's been mentioned many times on the Forum, according to my search just now, this topic has been discussed quite a bit. But suffice it to say that the NT is the current guide for christians in this age or dispensation as compared to the OT. God has given all authority to His Son as cited in Matt 28. When a person does that search for that phrase "first day of week," you can't help but notice that the first instance is at the resurrection of our Lord and Savior. It seems pretty clear to me that christians early on were motivated in this new age of Godliness, to give a special amount of glory and recognition to their Lord and Master which was endorsed by all the Apostles and by God Himself. Remember Jesus did delagate some of His authority to the Apostles to make basic and routine decisions to this degree. After taking another objective look at all the evidence, including the words of your posts and the statements you've made, I have to say that the bottom line is very clear. God is giving as much glory and honor as possible to His Son, thus it seems perfectly logical to give prominence to the day of worship being set on the same day as Jesus' resurrection in contrast to the Sabbath as established in the previous dispensation. Sometimes on issues of this magnitude with the few scriptures we're given, one has to make some decisions/determinations based on faith and respond to "What would God think?" I think he's pleased that the vast majority of christians throughout the world worship God the Father and His Son on Sunday. Maybe we should rename it Sonday. What do you think? Would you like to draft up such a proposal and submit a petition? I for one am willing to sign it. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

14 | Who says the Sabbath is on Sunday | Bible general Archive 2 | Country Girl | 124389
I like most of what I see in your post but the one big point about the story of the "widow's mite" was our Lord's emphasis on all of us doing what we can to comply with God's guidance. When it's clearly within our capibilities to do so, we MUST obey God and do everything we can in accordance with His Word, especially as it's cited in the NT. In the scene of the widow's giving her all, He was praising her attitude of complete devotion and submission to God's Will. So we should do likewise, do all that we can to avoid sin, avoid the influence of the world in our spiritual journey with God and instead strive to imitate Jesus with acts of kindness and love. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

15 | Who says the Sabbath is on Sunday | Bible general Archive 2 | Country Girl | 124432
In my opinion, the most important aspect of the Bible and God's Will for us is to submit our will to His, tweak our attitude so that we're completely willing to follow our God's Guidance as cited in the NT. Of course, we need to remember that in this dispensation, God has given all authority to His Son so we must comply with the NT, especially when there's a conflict with the OT. I think Jesus was all in favor of following the Law of Moses as much as physcially possible as He showed when He healed the leper and referred him to the priest for proper handling in accordance with that Law. But as I stated, it's very important that we remember Jesus is a Perfect Reflection of His Father and as such they both put much, much more emphasis of the condition of the heart. This is evident with all the verses from Jesus about the heart of a man and his attitude to God. He even said that the scribes missed the "weightier matters" of God's Law. That is, they would strive to pick out the splinter from their brother's eye but overlook the much bigger object in their own eye. This is what has plagued mankind from the beginning. We humans tends to get complacent with our relationship with God like Cain did and we think we can hide from Him and get away with our small and minor infractions. It just isn't that way with God. ALL of our sins will be fully accounted for on Judgment Day. If any of those sins go with us to that Day without our repentance and the blood of Jesus covering them, our God just might hold us completely accountable and we'll be terribly undone. I know this is a tough subject but hopefully I'm clear. Good question. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

I'm wondering why this is so important to you. It shouldn't be important to christians at all, as we're all able to be children of God. To me, this kind of discussion just breeds disrepect and sometimes even prejudice. Hopefully you've got good motives for generating this question. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

20 | Bibical mean for LOVE, WISDOM AND LIGHT | Bible general Archive 2 | Country Girl | 124875
Generally speaking, I would recommend 1 Cor 13 for the subject of love. For wisdom, go to Ecclesiastes and for light I would go to 1 John. After reading these and studying them together, a person should gain a good Biblical position on God and how He feels about the subject. Blessings to you. Country Girl |
