1 | Do you have to be baptized to be saved? | Rom 6:3 | sharp | 9478
Scripture stresses the importance of baptism (water and Spirit). Rom. 6 is refering to the complete new birth. "How shall we, that are dead to sin," we die out to sin when we repent (Christ died on the cross). "Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death:" water baptism is our burial Col. 2:12 "...Buried with him in baptism,"(Jesus was buried). "that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life." the Holy Ghost raises us in to our new life (Jesus rose from the dead). The gospel is the death, burial and ressurection. Col. 2:12 "2:12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead." We must have our death-repentance, burial-water baptism and ressurection-born of the Spirit. Sharp |

2 | Why do so few Scriptures mention baptism | Matt 7:13 | sharp | 9098
Thank you for the discussion. Sharp P.S. My prayer, and I hope everyone's, is that all who get involved with the Word of God follow Paul's directions in 2Tim.2:15 "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." |

3 | Why do so few Scriptures mention baptism | Matt 7:13 | sharp | 9039
My main point is John the Baptist who as the for runner of Christ was " To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins," according to Luke 1:77 linked remission of sins with baptism. As peter did on the day of Pentecost and Paul said of his conversion when Annias told him to arise and be baptised, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord. There are enough scriptures that mention baptism and when understood we know when a referance would include it when not mentioned specifically. The epistles are letters to believers, therefore everything would not need be spelled out every time. To get the complete story of Paul's we have to compare every account that is given in the scriptures, it is different with any other subject or topic that we study in the Bible. When some says their going somewhere they normally do not take time mention every detail of the process because thy are generally understood.(get in car, start car, put car in gear, ect.) We must grasp what the scriptures mean by works, (the bible says to work out your own salvation with fear and trembling) because we do not earn salvation nor do we keep it by works. I have no problem with Eph. 2:8-9, grace is the enabling power of God in our lives. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves:it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. Faith is the gift of God stated here, through indicates action not just mental acceptance. Anything we would try to do to please God our own way would be our works or even scripture based without faith would be vain works. We see Paul speaking in Acts chpt. 26. Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision: But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance. Paul states that he preached right after his conversion that people should repent, turn to God and do works meet for repentance. Sounds like John the Baptist telling the Pharisees to bring forth fruits meet for repentance. I relize the general belief on this forum is against what I stand for but truth is always truth I must proclaim the whole council of God. Sharp |

You read scriptures, may be that you don't understand what James said. I know you didn't understand my words because I did not say nor do I believe that we earn anything. Sharp P.S. read the last letter over SLOWLY |

5 | How do we remit | Matt 7:13 | sharp | 8986
Amen, here are some scriptures we see speaking loud and clear right now. If the foundation is not right the building will fall. Hebrew 5:12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. 5:13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. 6:1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, 6:2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and ofresurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. 6:3 And this will we do, if God permit. God bless, Sharp |

Hi Mark, thank you for your response. The church is called the body of Christ and the bride of Christ, it is not an organization it is an organism. When we study the different parts of scripture we must be careful to keep their connection to the whole. The Word is not lifeless, Jesus said, the words that I speak are spirit and thy are life. Thank you again for your observation. Sharp
7 | How do we remit | Matt 7:13 | sharp | 8796
Hi Tim, Faith, repentance, water baptism and the baptism of the Holy Ghost are all included in the plan of salvation. Then we are to walk in the new life that God has given us. Christian water baptism is an ordinance instituted by Jesus Christ. IF it is not important in the plan of God, why did Jesus command it in Matt. 28:19? And why did Peter follow up by saying, "Be baptized everyone of you," and by commanding the Gentiles to be baptized (Acts 2:38; 10:48)? We must remember two points about the importance of water baptism. First, whatever Christ definitely established and ordained cannot be unimportant, whether we understand its significance or not. Second, Christ and the apostles showed the importance of this ordinance by observing it. Jesus walked many miles to be baptized, though He was eithout sin, saying,:For thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness." It is true that water itself does not contain any saving virtue, but God has chosen to include it in His plan of salvation. Peter explained, "Baptism doth now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ" (1 Peter 3:21). According to Luke 3:30, the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized." Since Jesus birth, (you must be born again) to give some light to so we could begin to understand His plan, it would be wise to study the birth process. There is water the child comes forth from, breath taken at birth (spirit-Strong,s from 4154; a current of air, i.e. breath (blast) or a breeze;). In our natural birth there is effort on the infants part (pushing ect.), we do not earn life at birth nor do we decide how we want to go about it, we just follow the process. Sharp |

8 | How do we remit | Matt 7:13 | sharp | 8753
Read Acts 2:38 again, be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins. The instructions in John 20:23 are to those that are given the authority to baptize. John the Baptist showed that responsibility when he refused to baptize Pharisees and Sadducees until he seen evidence of repentance, Matt.3:5 Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan,3:6 And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins. 3:7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 3:8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance: 3:9 And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. The blood of Jesus was shed for the remission of sins, God's word ties remission of sins to baptism not some idea of man. God had Elijah the prophet tell Naaman, who had leprosy, to dip seven times in the Jordon river to be healed. Naaman was mad but was convinced to give it a try. He was healed, why? the water of the Jordon river! no, becaused he did what the word of the Lord said to do. Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Amen, it is not of ourselves, we simply follow the instructions God gave us. Sharp |

10 | Please explain | Matt 7:13 | sharp | 8570
Bible faith is shown by our obedience to God's word, Jesus said if you love me keep my commandments. He gave the instrutions it is not our option to dispute what scripture shows. John the Baptist was the fore runner of Christ, he prepared the way for Jesus 1:77 "To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins," he preached the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins (Luke 3:3). When Peter was asked on the day of pentecost what they (those that believed Peter's message) needed do he told them to repent,to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and they would receive the gift of the Holy Ghost (the promise). It is all about faith, Jesus said he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved, without faith followed by repentance baptism is nothing, with faith followed by repentance, baptism is the next step to remit (send away) sin. 1 Peter 3:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:, he compared Noah and his family being saved by water, which took obedience to God's word and following God's instructions. Who is John MacArthur? I hope you read Romans chapter 6 on your way to Romans chapter 10 so you could see the importance of baptism to spiritual life. Paul had just spent three days in prayer, he met Jesus on the road to Damascus, he now knew who Jesus was and was ready to do what ever Jesus wanted him to do. The gospel of Mat. 1:21 says his name shall be called Jesus for he shall save his people from their sins. Paul was calling on the name of the Lord, atleast there is no doubt in my mind, what ever point you wanted to make I would ask was Paul saved in his sins or from his sins ie. washed away? Belief, repentance, water baptism and the infilling of the Holy Ghost put us in the body of Christ. |

Yes born of water in John 3:5 is water baptism. Any doubt that baptism is connected to spiritual cleaning is answered by Paul's testamony in Acts 22:16 "And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord." sharp |

Hi JV You wouold have trouble finding a calmer person than myself, so just read what I say don't try to interpret. The scripture says no one can come to God except the Spirit draw him. A person with no chance left with God would not have a desire to be a christian. If the Spirit draws then there is hope. |

A backslider can be restored. "James 5:19 My brethren, if any among you strays from the truth and one turns him back, James 5:20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins. He is not born again again, he is restored through repentance. |

The bible sayes that God is not a man that he should repent. The rich ruler that came to Jesus and asked what more he need to do to get eternal life called Jesus good, Jesus told him there was none good but God. Why, because in this instance the man had his focus on the humanity and not on the diety of Christ. see note on Heb.4:15 Mon. 5/7/01 3:44 sharp |

Hi Ray Sorry God is not a man, God was manifested in the flesh. When the fulness of time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law. Gal.4:4 We will see the glorified body.Get this scripture picture. I Jn 1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 1 Tim 6:14-16 14 That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: 15 Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; 16 Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Thank you Tim, Let's look closer at scripture for better understanding. John 14:10 "Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works." dwelleth-Strong's 3306 meno (men'-o);a primary verb; to stay (in a given place, state, relation or expectancy): Col 1:27 "To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:" in-Strong's 1722 en (en);a primary preposition denoting (fixed) position (in place, time or state), and (by implication) instrumentality (medially or constructively), i.e. a relation of rest (intermediate between 1519 and 1537); "in," at, (up-) on, by, etc.: God is a Spirit - the Spirit,i.e.God, was in the man Christ Jesus John 4:23-24 "But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. Eph 4:4-6 "There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism,One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. John 14:14-18 "If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it."If you love Me, you will keep My commandments."And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever;that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not behold Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you, and will be in you."I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. |
