As believers "everything is permissible for me" but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible for me" but I will not be mastered by anything. Our "goal" is to be Christlike, granted this is not immediate, as we are running a race. 1 Cor. 9:24-27...Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate(exercises self control) in all things..." My desire is not to condemn but encourage, for I too am but clay being molded day by day by the Potter. As I seek to encourage, it builds up my own desire (the holy spirit at work in me) to run the race, to be more Christlike, to excercise self control in all things...It is only by His strength and power we can even begin to overcome those things that bind us. As Paul wrote.. "...but I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified." Let's run! |

4 | Is smoking a sin? | 1 Cor 3:16 | saltnlight | 90794 | ||
My question would be is addiction a sin... We are to be led by the spirit. This is just one of the many fleshly desires that lead to not being completely spirit led which is a sin. In the areas of smoking, overeating, drinking, to name just a few, these areas are ones which we need to question ourselves... can I live without...smoking, overeating, a drink? This will clarify the attitude of the heart, if the answer is no, then I would say it would be sin. We are his workmanship, created for good works in Christ Jesus. Are we being prevented by our own fleshly desire or sin, in becoming all he has for us? He wants all of us not just what we decide we want to surrender. We all struggle in the "gray" areas. I myself have struggled in the are a my weight for years. I have been asking God to show me how to completely surrender to Him in this and other areas that on the outside seem "small" but are really "big" issues of surrender. He is faithful to answer your prayers, seek him, surrender all, take up your cross...He will be faithful to answer! |
