Cheryl I too have been in bad relationships. Count on the things we don't like to not change. That should be warning enough. Since you are not held in this relationship by marriage I would suggest you read what you have written about the way you feel. As an outsider on this story I must say it does not sound like a healthy situation for any person to be in, let alone a Christian. That comes from the announcement you made about this being a dating relationship and the assumption that you have accepted Christ into your life. Even if you have not accepted Christ you are at least searching for answers in a proper place, from fellow Christians. Though we are Christians and called to love others does not mean any dating relationship we are in with another person must lead to something more. I would agree with Ed that this sounds like a co-dependant situation. Trust me those are not good. We are to date others to find someone with whom we are compatable. Find someone who is right for you not just someone you are attracted to. A Scripture that comes to mind is- I Cor 15:33 Do not be deceived: "Bad company corrupts good morals." I know it sounds hard when you have strong feelings toward another person, hoping they would just change this certain thing and then you would be happy. That does not happen. We all must first do as Matt 6:33 says "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you". Jesus is talking about our physical needs but this should also cover our emotional needs. The closer we get to God, the more we study His Word, the clearer our direction becomes. Relationships are so tough we must keep our close relationships with God and strong Christians. I would suggest you read and study Gods Word, pray regularly, go to a good Christ centered Church, go to a good Bible Study, get involved in that Church. You should find that you will grow in wisdom and understanding. You will get to know people who can truly love you and you will then know what that kind of love feels and looks like. Then looking back you will give God more thanks than ever before. Prov. 3:5-6 5)Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. 6)In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight. If this sounds to simplistic thats because it is. Trusting in God required only a simple faith. It is simple but not always easy. May God bless you and give you the courage, wisdom and understanding that you need. I will pray for you also. I hope this is of some help North |
