1 | Why do i need to love god? | John 3:16 | ngkh | 223538
Hi, Perhaps a "right being" is a better word instead of "right doing" As Eph 2:8-10 says "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. So question - can salvation be lost if we do not show love to the Father or do any works that shows we love him? Isn't it putting the cart in front of the horse. Why would one give his life to God in the first place? Something good be it hope, love or blessings may have happened, no? Then we are babies. We seek him further through the Word and then relationship begins and we grow. There could be further encounter and you just manifest your love for Him and you will be obedient to the Word. I need not try to love or show love (right doing) but we will love (right being) because He first loved us, Amen? We will then serve according to the gifts He had given us and it will be different if the calling is truly from him. You won't expect accolades from anyone, not even from God when you serve because you do it out of love for him. Amen? It is thus not a "MUST" or "Need" but a "WANT" that builds the relationship and all things that follows with it. This is just my simple personal journey not through any theological studies. Blessings John |

Hi Jeff, Thanks. It did help indeed. |

3 | Appreciate your further thoughts | John 7:17 | ngkh | 167575
Hi Mitch, Did not mean to add fuel to the fire. Even if the passage was written by some one else, I would have asked the same question because I read that Watchman Nee also expounded on this verse but with a different meaning. I am trying to find the book laying somewhere in my midst :-) Thus when I saw the same scriptures brought up by Bro Markn with a differrent thought, just wanted to see his view on the matter. Would appreciate yours also. Thanks |

Hi Brad, Thank you for your thoughts. I am surprised that there was much flaks just on the movement. But I'd like to share that the books that I read written by Hagins "Understanding how to fight the good fight of faith" "Moving Mountain faith" (except for the healing thingee) and "Understanding the anointing" - yet to complete reading thus far do not or I am not reading right contains the the accusation brought forward by a bro/sis in another thread. Nor am I in a position to draw a conclusion because I did not read those contraversial books. That's is why I felt that 1Cor 2:18-23 was appropriate and further to that, when I prayed for guidance, I believe the Lord had also led me to the whole chapter of Romans 14 which might serve as a good reminder. My intention for the initial post is to highlight 1Cor2:9-16 i.e. spirit guided. God Bless |

5 | Truth | John 7:17 | ngkh | 167549
I believe you have mistook me as a follower or member of the movement. I am not. I just read some of his books. That is all. I am not in a position to draw a conclusion let alone defend him. But...... in a hypotical defamation case. In US laws I wonder if the defence of justification hold water if I tell the judge that my view of so and so is true because I read some articles which was written by some people that I got from the net which also include bibligraphical citations / references which I have not personally seen nor read the book. Even if it is true. I would appreciate if you would explain to me the whole chapter of Romans 14. I am not here to debate. Just felt a bit sad that it comes from a learned brother/sister. |

Can I assume then that what you have posted is not from your experience nor have you read any of his books and yet you have much against his teaching based on articles given by others. That is one Christian sharing I have yet to comprehend. As I said earlier, I just read his books and I am not his followers nor involved in his movement. What I shared was 1Cor chapters 1-4. But since the mentioned of Hagins...... I wonder if cartoons will come out next. |

Dear Brad, Not sure, if I understood your term on mysticism and existentialism. I haved also read Hagin bashing articles over the net but as far as the books that I have read, I do not see much mysticism except for some healing miracles. (does this constitute as mystic?) In your term of existentialism, much of what Hagins wrote is followed by a passage of the scriptures or rather, he expounded on a particular verse or verses. If that is not biblical, I'm not sure what is. I believe he preached Christ and Him crucified. That's one of the reason why I felt my Pastor was teaching "work" - man centered. As far as the books that I read, it has always been Christ centered and remember that I mentioned earlier that I am in total agreement with my Pastor's comment that our efforts, church building is secondary. It should always be Him first. His show. Now please tell me that this thought is wrong and Christ is not preeminent. Anyway, its not for me to talk for Hagins and others. Why are we in this forum. Who post all these comments. Are we not men? Are we not exercising our thoughts in this forum just as the other writers exercising theirs in their books? You might want to go to 1Cor 3:18-23 Btw, in answer.com, discernment is a term used in a Catholic church. Is it correct? |

8 | Can you please explain tithing? | Deut 14:1 | ngkh | 163440
Hi Jeff, Thanks for voicing your disagreement in one of my statement. We all seek the truth and inadvertantly, we all have different ideas or interpretations of the scriptures. We share our thoughts be it right or wrong and stand to be corrected if we are wrong if we see it. That's why we have this topic in the first place- two completely difference in opinions. Why are there so many different denominations? Some are even branded as cults. Who are we to say they are cults. Difference in opinion again. Who can say that one's interpretation is the truth? So if everyone says theirs is the truth, so after almost 2000 years later we ask the very same question that Pontius Pilate asked. What is the truth? I myself see some of my fellow church brothers going overboard in the name of truth. So where do you draw the line? My line is, I believe the holy spirit will always be my guidance in everything I do and when I am having quiet time in the word. Plainly I take my cue from Him. I share, I accept it if I am wrong(convicted). I share, but I do not impress or force on others that I am right. How do I know if I am doing the right thing? Simple acid test. Do I feel at peace or burdened. If I feel burdened, then I believe it's not spiritually led. Again, if we impose on others what we think is right or is the truth, aren't we in a way being judgemental? What would I do in this instance? I will pray for the brother for the Lord's guidance be it to him or even myself (in case I am wrong). That's why I said that it is one's belief cos it's between him and God. Perhaps I'm wrong here but aren't we all trying to do God's job in getting the poor chap to follow what we think is the truth if its the real truth? Are we forgetting Isaiah - Your thoughts are not my thoughts neither are your ways mine. Why not let God lead the poor chap in His own time and ways. So, if one does not believe that he should pay tithe, then let God convict him, not us as men. I will share my thoughts but this will be as far as I go. The question is, are we always right? If we are, then there is nothing more to say. God Bless. |

9 | Can you please explain tithing? | Deut 14:1 | ngkh | 163437
Like I said, I don't tithe to be justified just as you say that my giving is a love offering and not tithe. But I wonder, does the difference really matter? Tithe or giving. Is it so important that my contribution must be classified either as tithe or giving? So if I consider the contibution as tithe, then I'm wrong because its the law and I won't be justified but if I say this is an offering , then I am justified? I fail to see the the reason for highlighting justification and the law - to tithe or give an offering. Is God going to say that oh, this is your tithe and that is your offering? Let's examine our own hearts. Have we given? Not classified as tithe but offering or do we hide behind this justification and law issue to satisfy ourselves NOT to give. To me I do not care two hoots what my contribution be called. But I suppose, if one really seek to use tithe as a compelling manner to give to the church, then I will not support that teaching. Neither have my Pastors taught this. Its always freewill. |

10 | Can you please explain tithing? | Deut 14:1 | ngkh | 163351
Hi bro, I would rather think it this way. Jesus said to love your neighbour as you would love yourself and in Mat 25:40 And the King will answer and say to them, Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me. Now if I am going to bless someone in need, what is wrong in giving tithes to the church. Do I need to be commanded by Christ to give to the needy? No. I would think as being a christian I will do all these without asking for justification nor recognition. Justification has nothing to do with tithes. If you believe so, then your are subjecting yourself to the law by such thought . I am giving tithes not because I want justification. I am giving because I love the church and it needs funds to function so that it may bless others as well especially non believers. To me, I believe the 10 percent is just a ball park figure remembering what Paul had said 2Cor 8:12 12 For if there is first a willing mind, it is accepted according to what one has, and not according to what he does not have. I will give (not pay) whatever I can afford. Like I said, its between me and the Lord and no one else. I do not even put my name on the cheque when I handed the tithe to the church so even my pastor does not know I gave. Not necessary. |

11 | Can you please explain tithing? | Deut 14:1 | ngkh | 163346
I believe Malachi 3:8-12 might explain if tithe is commanded. 8 “ Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me! But you say, ‘ In what way have we robbed You?’ In tithes and offerings. 9 You are cursed with a curse, For you have robbed Me, Even this whole nation. 10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the LORD of hosts, “ If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it. 11 “ And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, So that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground, Nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field,” Says the LORD of hosts; 12 And all nations will call you blessed, For you will be a delightful land,” Says the LORD of hosts. I'm not sure about the quantum but I think there are lot of mentions about one tenth in the bible though. There is also a question if the one tenth is net or gross of ones income. In the end its one belief if he wants to pay or not. Even if another man says that it is not a command, no one can judge if he does not want to pay. Its between him and God. Not for us to say. I believe the holy spirit will lead one to it one time or other. |

12 | Help!!! | Bible general Archive 3 | ngkh | 162998
Dear Doc, With due respect, I don't see the tolerance that you have defined is in some of the postings here that came from the States. Before I accepted the Lord, I too was taken aback when I was told that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. Then, I thought it to be arrogance. But these words took a different meaning when I was later surrounded by christians that showed love, concern, acceptance, tolerance to my unbeliefs then. That led me to seek the Word and with their guidance and encouragements, the Bible took on a total different meaning. What I am trying to say is, we do not win souls by thrusting the Word of God to an unbeliever and say the Bible is the Truth. Rather, one would be more successful if one show love and affection and that includes tolerance first before sharing the Gospels. I came to the Lord this way, thanks to my home group members. Likewise I am doing the same to other new members. Afterall isn't it one of the greatest commandments of all "love your neighbour as you love yourself." As Martin Luther King Jr once said " Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a friend" I once told you that I seldom make a post because I felt inadequate to do so probably due to my lack of knowledge of the scriptures. Comparing to the way you post answers and some others, can you see a difference in the way they do? Such hostilities in the name of the Truth. Anyway, this is a bible study forum and I have gone way of course. I'm sorry. God Bless. |

13 | Help!!! | Bible general Archive 3 | ngkh | 162992
Hi Doc, You will even be more tongue twisted trying to pronounce my last name :-) It will be very wrong of me if I do not explain Peter thesis as you put it. I must have provided a complete different meaning earlier that led you to believe that he is leaning towards the quoran. On the contrary, he had explained the scriptures in the bible and highlighted the contradiction in the Quoran and not the other way. He gave a view on why the Ishmaelites (Arab descendants), Esau who became Edoms have such hates to Israel. Why we need to pray for the Arabs and to be in God's wave of revival as it sweeps over Asia and i.e. we spread the Gospels. I live in an Islamic State, More than 65 percent of the population are Muslims. We are unlike the Middle East. We co-exist with mutual respect towards each others faiths. Although our faiths are almost opposite, we do not condemn nor do they. We have freedom of religion although there are times when one fella in the authorities might have gone overboard but it does not reflect the sentiments of the Gov. For e.g. a local authority in a remote area demolished a church built for the indigenous people because of one idiot in the local council. PM stepped in and the gov compensated for the damage done. I am surprised though that there are christians that are well versed in the Word and yet are so judgemental against someone like Cho Jonggi and all that are associated with him. From what I understand from my church (even my pastor had quoted him in some of his sermons) and other christian bodies in my country, I don't think he deserve such judgements nor should one judge being a christian in direct contradiction to the bible. |

Hi BradK, I am not sure if Yonggi Cho is teaching things that is contradictory to the bible. If he has, I would appreciate your input so that I too will approach it with caution. Why were there such revival in Korea. A Church by the hundreds of thousands members. Cult or just because he has thousandsof followers. I apologise again for my english. When I stated their book I meant the Quoran. What I meant was, Peter highlighted the contradiction in the Quoran and not he proclaiming things in contradiction to the bible. Why I think his book is worth reading? From what I heard on the cd (based on the book), it gives me an interesting view on the history of the Arabs and the Jews (old testament , Isaac and Ishmael), why the Quoran is in direct contradiction to the Bible and why there are so much hate by the Arab against Israel (Psalm 83) two thousand year ago and is still is now. Why we should pray for the Arabs so that they will receive the revelations from the Holy Spirit and like Esau ( Gods rejected one), forgives and reconcile with Jacob (Gods chosen one). i.e. reborn arabs reconciling with the Israel. Not an impossible event. |

15 | Help!!! | Bible general Archive 3 | ngkh | 162988
Pls excuse my limited english. I should have mentioned reborn arabs rather than muslims. Perhaps the following article might help http://columns.crossmap.com/article/who-is-praying-for-the-arabs/620.htm Did you know that Jordan ( an Islamic state ) in the region allows freedom of religion? In fact one of my Pastor is going to Jordan for a 3 years mission trip. I live in an Islamic state. And when my church made an application for a new building, application was approved in 7 days. I know of one Muslim that is born again. Let's not under estimate the power of the Gospels. Instead of showing love and forgiveness, there's self righteousness in the hearts. That's the problem. |

16 | is smoking a sin? | 1 Cor 6:12 | ngkh | 161246
Hi Brenda, The advice I've got when I was a smoker then is 1Cor6:19-20 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body. Thus we know smoking is bad for our body and will we not dishonor God if we defile our body? Anyway, God is good. He took away my 25 yrs habit in one evening outside my church 1 year ago and I never took another one since then. No yearnings, no withdrawl symptons. I believe with the prayers from my fellow bros and sis and of course His grace was I able to kick the habit just like that. I suppose getting rid of my habit was one of His ways towards my change. I did not try, He just took it away. Praise the Lord. |

17 | SPEAKING IN TONGUES IN CHURCH?? | 1 Cor 14:26 | ngkh | 159472
My thoughts to this question. Commentaries Even an apostle could not edify, unless he spoke so as to be understood by his hearers. To speak words that have no meaning to those who hear them, is but speaking into the air. That cannot answer the end of speaking, which has no meaning; in this case, speaker and hearers are barbarians to each other. All religious services should be so performed in Christian assemblies, that all may join in, and profit by them. Language plain and easy to be understood, is the most proper for public worship, and other religious exercises. Every true follower of Christ will rather desire to do good to others, than to get a name for learning or fine speaking. (1Co 14:15-25) What Paul said is when you preach or sharing the Word, do not use a language that is not understood speaking in tongues included. But when we pray, it is between us and the Lord, and I believe praying in tongues in a spiritual language connecting to God as God is Spirit. John 4:24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth." I've never heard of a sermon spoken in tongues except when he and the whole church pray. If you would really open up your mind to the Lord and try praying in tongues, you can really feel a difference whether you have connected with God or just shooting blanks which I sometimes felt too. |

18 | does God take away his promise form you | Rom 6:14 | ngkh | 159228
I'm sorry if I have you wrong. Then.... Philipians 3:12-14 might provide the answer. 12Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Can you see what I'm getting at? Yes, we are not perfect. Even Paul said the same thing. The difference is 1) you choose to sin and hope for God's grace. 2) You are already in God's grace but due to our carnal mind (flesh) we sin. I'm meant to answer that 2nd part. The anwer probably lies on CHOICE. God Bless |
