1 | Is the Bible itself evil? | 2 Tim 3:16 | nevermind | 135075
I'm just a little scared to embrace one religion as mine. I don't want to shut out all possibilities as so many do. Talking in this forum is helping me quite a bit though. It's the hope you all seem to have. I will probably never believe any one bible entirely, but I will listen to peoples reactions and interpretations of them. I will look into that story. It sounds very interesting. I was wondering... Do you watch a show called Joan of Arcadia? I absolutely LOVE that show. God comes to visit her (Joan) directly, but in many human forms and gives her little missions that help her to grow and understand events, also to help other people. I think it is a very good show, but of course, I already said that :) |

Actually I believe the author of Excalibur was Bernard Cornwell, but your point is well taken and I like Tolkiens world just as much. I would love to see the world how you see it. I guess I don't know how to. |

You know. I could talk to you. You have been so nice, and so patient. Even when you are being blunt, you say it with a smile. You are one of the people that keep me interested in learning about religion. Our beliefs are quite different, but I feel that is what helps us to grow. I want to touch on anger. Whereas anger is an emotion, it always has an outward sign thus in my opinion anger is almost always an action. People do not always catch the outward signs, but they are there. Just like most of the responses to my question. I got a sense of worry, fear, anger/irritation, and perhaps even a little sympathy for my ignorance, in the responses I received. Even yours. The emotions are wrapped around words and body language if you know how to look/feel for them. I have another thought about being judged on what passes through my mind. If you are infact judged on your thoughts. Does it not stand to reason that if I thought about shooting someone and then thought about not shooting them (in other words, considered my options), it would balance out, thus negating the negative impact on our soul? |

Mt. 5:21- Everything in this brief quote was an action. Even anger is an action. I can believe that this would matter. Mt. 5:27- In my opinion, this is a bit silly. Lust is part of the human condition. What is it that causes us to approach a woman and ask her out? The absolute need to get to know her better? Perhaps. More likely than not, we see a beautiful woman and have certain thoughts. I guess I don't see what is wrong with having lusty thoughts and I think it is a terrible thing to be condemned by our God for it. Mark 7:20- If I don't misunderstand this quote. We are all considered "unclean" just by being alive. Yes we are capable of doing all of these things, but why should it be said that simply because I CAN do something terrible, that means I am bad. Jesus himself was able to perform these same actions. Heb. 4:12- What does this mean? What are we talking about when we say "The word of God"? God himself or his "word"? I think it's terrible for people to believe that simply for thinking something they will be judged. I'm not saying they should allow their minds to run away with them, but certainly they will not be condemned for them. |

I want to thank you for the site. I am looking through it.

First off, thank you for understanding. I am not here to fight with anyone. I guess I should have read the guidlines. I have been in the computer field for a long time, and have the habit of simply clicking I agree without reading. I guess I just thought, since this was a bible discussion we could ask the tough ones. My apologies. What I meant by that statement, is that God may be able to know what is in your heart and what your are thinking, but these are not reasons to be damned. Actions, even in Gods domain, are the only thing that matter. If you think of hitting some one for no reason, I don't believe God will hold that against you. If, however, you actually hit some one for no reason, you will put a negative mark on your soul. I'm not sure I explained that very well. |

Now it's your turn to listen. I did come here to get some one elses thoughts in this matter. I am not here to fight, but I too must be upfront and honest. If all you are going to do is talk about me leaving, then feel free not to read my post. I don't mean to offend anyones sense of religion, though I know a question like this sets peoples teeth on edge. I am simply asking for other peoples thoughts. I never once said I believe the bible to be evil. I simply want to know if anyone else has pondered this. I asked for people to keep an open mind. Not to fight with me and ask me to consider going elsewhere, simply because I ask a question that flies in the face of christian belief. Ok, I must apologize. I thought maybe, we could speak openly about something that was troubling me personally. I can see now that is not allowed. You are exactly the reason I pull away from religion. You think I just asked that question to be rude and slander your book? That's not it. I do thank you for spending the time to doubt me and MY beliefs though. It's always such a pleasure to talk religion. |

Thank you for understanding. Many people will trhow a stone and then say something nice. You did not. I am trying to change my views on how I look at the world, but I truly believe that God created the rules. He didn't just create earth and then man. |

Said the fanatic, who was completely unwilling to keep an open mind. The god you seem to think exists, is a god that will punish for belief! I think not. Actions are stronger than thoughts even to god. |
