The only thing that I can offer is to encourage your questioners to seek their hearts for God's will for them individually and personally. Is their giving because God is asking them to give or is it because they feel they have to live up to a commandment? In the case of the former, I think the answer is a personal thing and cannot be answered in a blanket, generic sense which is all that we can do here in a forum. In the case of the latter, it seems to me to be living under the Law. Food for thought, can't first fruits be something other than financial in nature like visiting the poor or the sick or the imprisoned? Gal 5:18 - But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law. |

Friend, I'm sorry if I came across the wrong way. I am not trying to imply that God does not work through man nor am I implying that man should not seek edification from each other. When I read this post, I immediately felt that this question needed to be directed to God. I'm sorry if it came across any other way.

Paul had to address this very issue. See 1 Cor 12. To paraphrase there are different gifts and they are distributed as God sees fit. The gifts are given in such a way that people must work together to accomplish the task (the growth of the kingdom through the spread of the Gospel). The gifts are given for a purpose, not to be a badge or membership card.
